Six years after the runaway phenomenon that was Gremlins, director Joe Dante (The Howling, Innerspace) finally delivered a sequel....only this time, he brought the action to New York City where Billy (Zach Galligan) and Kate (Phoebe Cates) now live. They both have jobs working at the famous Clamp Tower for the Clamp Corporation which is run by famous billionaire Daniel Clamp (John Glover).....and life is pretty dull overall. Until one day, they're sent an old friend at the tower.....more than an old friend, it's Gizmo the adorable Mogwai from the first film! :) Will they follow "The RULES" this time? :o Host & Editor: Geoff GershonEditor: Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Send us a textWhat if everything we thought we knew about leadership was wrong? Jenny Robinson, a successful Kiwi entrepreneur with five thriving businesses spanning three decades, has discovered something remarkable about how true leadership emerges. When Jenny began her PhD research on leadership, she made a startling realization: despite a century of academic study, we lack a predictive model of leadership. This prompted her to strip away all preconceptions and ask a fundamental question: "What would leadership look like if we didn't know what leadership looks like?"Her search for answers led her to study natural systems, where recent science reveals something counterintuitive - nature thrives through collaboration rather than just competition. Trees share resources, information, and medicine with neighboring trees when in proximity. This insight became the foundation for a revolutionary approach to understanding how humans lead.Jenny and her colleague Phil Renshaw were inspired to create "Leadership on the Go" and author "Coaching on the Go," offering practical guidance for implementing collaborative leadership approaches. Their innovative tool "Gizmo" helps teams develop the skills needed for collaborative leadership without the stigma of traditional assessments. Now working across 25 countries in five languages, they've found that groups worldwide consistently identify the same key elements for effective collaboration.Want to transform your leadership approach? Summer has arrived, and with it comes refreshing iced tea, eaglet adventures, and exciting plans for the months ahead! We kick off with a spirited discussion about National Iced Tea Day, sharing our personal brewing preferences and debating the merits of sweet versus unsweet varieties. Remember those old commercials where people would fall backward into pools after a refreshing sip? We certainly do!Our eagle-watching journey continues with an exciting update: Sunny has officially fledged! After weeks of practice flaps and hovering attempts, this brave eaglet took flight on June 2nd while Gizmo continues preparing for the big moment. We draw parallels between these fledgling birds and the human experience of leaving home, noting how Sunny still returns to the nest occasionally—not unlike college students coming home for weekends. The heart of this episode features our Professional Learning Team sharing what they're most excited about for the upcoming academic year. From Bree's multilingual learner book study to Ernesto's enthusiasm for new Spanish translations of Inspiring Connections materials, the passion is palpable. Kathy Williams highlights the contemporary updates in Core Connections third edition, while others discuss summer learning events including the Building Thinking Classrooms Conference and the Academy of Best Practices for New Teachers.Between national park adventures, camping trips, favorite band concerts, and our company-wide Terrific Team Building event in September, there's plenty to look forward to personally and professionally. What are you excited about this summer? Testing is over? What do YOU do to fill the last few days of school? We're watching eaglets! The natural world offers endless fascination when we take time to observe it closely. This week, Joel and Misty share their current obsession with tracking the Big Bear Valley bald eagles through a live nest cam, discovering the remarkable process of how eaglets prepare for their first flight.Starting with reflections on National Sunscreen Day, the hosts exchange memorable sunburn stories from childhood Disney trips to first date disasters, highlighting our evolving understanding of sun protection. What was once baby oil and reflectors has thankfully given way to proper UV protection, especially important for preserving tattoo art and preventing skin cancer. The conversation shifts to the eaglets Gizmo and Sunny, whom Joel and Misty have watched transform from helpless gray fuzzy blobs to magnificent juveniles with impressive wingspans. Contrary to what many might assume, eagles don't simply jump off the nest and instinctively know how to fly. The hosts describe watching the eaglets practice by stretching their wings, performing vigorous flapping exercises while holding onto nest materials, and, perhaps, observing other birds in flight - all preparations for that momentous first flight that could happen any day now. This eagle-watching journey sparked fascinating discussions about avian development, personal eagle encounters across the country, and lesser-known eagle facts (did you know female bald eagles are larger than males, and that these majestic birds make surprisingly squeaky calls?). The hosts share stories of magical eagle sightings from Minnesota to Kansas, reflecting on how eagle populations have made an impressive comeback in recent decades.Want to join the eagle-watching community? Check the link HERE to access the Big Bear Valley eagle cam and witness this remarkable natural phenomenon for yourself. And don't forget to tune in on June 10th for our National Iced Tea Day episode, where we'll explore the history and preparation of this refreshing summer beverage!Send Joel and Misty a message! The More Math for More People Podcast is produced by CPM Educational Program. What's up, dudes? “Gremlins” is a classic holiday horror, and I've got artist and author of the Banned Book Club series Ryan Estrada here to talk about! Yes, we really get into the “Gremlins” original script by Chris Columbus and its novelization by George Gipe!In the original script, Billy is fantasy author and sticks up for himself much more. Of course, the gremlins themselves are also more vicious. Gone is the good mogwai character of Gizmo. In fact, they kill and eat the dog, decapitate Billy's mom, and eat some McDonald's customers (rather than the food). Thankfully, Joe Dante lightened the tone and brought in some humor. In contrast to the mysterious thriller of Columbus, Gipe expands the backstory of the creatures. In his origin, the mogwai were genetically engineered by an alien named Mogturmen to be gifts and peace offerings to neighboring worlds. Unfortunately, he miscalculated, and the gifts turned out to be mischievous and murderous pests. Can't win ‘em all, I guess.Medieval sword replica? Check. Alien geneticist? Yup. Gremlin in a toolbox thrown into a lake? Only if you want to setup a sequel! So grab your sword, save your crush, and kill some little green monsters to this episode on the “Gremlins” original script and novelization!RyanEstrada.comIG: @ryaneatradadotcomFB: @RyanEstradaGive us a buzz! What's up, dudes? “Gremlins” is a classic holiday horror, made better by Jerry Goldsmith's score and the killer hits of Michael Sembello and Peter Gabriel. Kevin Williams from ‘Tis the Soundtrack joins me to really dig into a couple of cues from the “Gremlins” score and dish about music theory of it all as well.We first get into the mega madness with the Sembello track. Played during the bar scene, the uptempo dance song set the stage for the “Maniac”-like antics of the dancing green creature. The film also features a track by Quarterflash and Darlene Love's epically classic “Christmas.”Goldsmith's penchant for atonality shines forth in the frantic cue ‘No Santa Claus.' The Stravinsky-esque eighths are composed of dueling tritones E-Bb and D-Ab and immediately transition to alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8. Subsequently, all this segues quite nicely into held sonorities overlaid with “Silent Night” as Kate begins her tale of holiday woe. Talk about harmonization!Altered mystic chord? Check. Catchy mogwai theme? Got it. Synthesizer? Yes, but only if there's 7 different types! So grab your Roland Jupiter-6, join the orchestra, and play along to this episode all about the “Gremlins” score and soundtrack!‘Tis the SoundtrackYouTube: @TisTheSoundtrackIG: @tisthesoundtrackNicolas Delage solving the mystery of Gizmo's voice!Be sure to check out the brilliant publication of Goldsmith's work by Chris Siddall, which made this analysis possible. Amanda Clawson and her Grade 4 students recently won a contest naming Hancock Health's new da Vinci 5 surgical system robot. The Sugar Creek Elementary teacher said, “I just went for it, and the kids were excited about it. I didn't really think anything would come of it or that we would win because the whole county could enter, but it was just exciting for the kids to win.”The robot, one of 1,700 in the country, is used in surgeries for hernias, gallbladder and uterine-related issues. Other Indianapolis-area hospitals also have the technology that allows patients to have minimally invasive procedures, faster healing and shorter downtimes.Student Lili Appleget said, “There's like little microscopes, and it'll poke little holes so it can get to what it needs to get to.”Appleget who came up with the idea to name it “Gizmo.” The fourth graders voted on the name and submitted it for the contest. Lili thinks the name will make kids comfortable when they are in the hospital, and that it's easy to pronounce.Clawson's class got to take a trip to the hospital to learn how the robot works. For the teacher, the experience was not just about winning, but also about giving her students a chance to see the impact of their efforts and learn that they can be a part of something much bigger than themselves. “Especially to have them have important community members recognize their writing and pay attention to their writing. They don't get that very often.”The teacher hopes to enter future classes in similar competitions to show her students that they have a powerful voice in science, technology, and beyond. “It was fun, engaging. It got the kids to write more. Even if it wasn't a writing project, it was more of a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) project, but we included writing with it, so something math related could be fun in the future or continuing our writing journey.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What's up, dudes? It's Candlemas! Yes, today we say goodbye to Christmastide. To celebrate, I've got Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast and Art Kilmer from A Cozy Christmas with to talk about the 1981 episode of SuperBook “The First Christmas!”Once again, several Gospel pericopes are concatenated in this New Testament-inspired episode. While feeling nostalgic and missing his mother at Christmas, Chris, Joy, and his robot toy Gizmo find themselves transported by the mystical book. When the psychedelia settles, they stare up in awe at a vast dessert from another time! Finding themselves in the 1st century BC Holy Land, the trio arrive during the time for Caesar Augustus's decree. Accordingly, St. Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary make the trek to Bethlehem, their ancestral home. Simultaneously the Magi follow a star to Bethlehem in search of a new king. The trio meet the Holy Family and journey with them to the same town. That night they see the Angel's proclamation of great joy, and follow some shepherds to the inn where Jesus was born. It's time to turn on all the lights, check inside the house and don't eat after midnight, because the hosts are ending the year with another special holiday movie review, the comedy horror classic, Gremlins, starring Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, written by Chris Columbus and directed Joe Dante. The movie that introduced our favorite little Mogwai, Gizmo and is now a pop culture icon for many different generations. The hosts pair the film with The Gremlin Cocktail. Join the hosts as they wrapped up their season and celebrate the 40th anniversary of this holiday film. When a new batch of gremlins graphically burst out of Gizmo's back, Billy and Kate do everything they can to keep them from overrunning the Clamp Center. But when some experimental mutagens create a bevy of mutant gremlins, they threaten to overrun the streets of New York City. Is bat gremlin the gremlin we deserve, and not the gremlin we need? What's the business model for the animal testing facility? When do we get an Aliens vs Gremlins franchise? It's the episode that needs 25% more Futterman.Support the production of The Greatest GenerationGet a thing at podshop.biz!Sign up for our mailing list! The Greatest Generation is produced by Wynde Priddy and this episode was edited by Rob AdlerSocial media is managed by Rob Adler and Bill TilleyDiscuss the show using the hashtag #GreatestGen and find us on social media:YouTube | Facebook | X | Instagram | TikTok | Mastodon | Bluesky | ThreadsAnd check out these online communities run by FODs: Reddit | USS Hood Discord | Facebook group | Wikia | FriendsOfDeSoto.social
Welcome to the ninth day of doctrine with a gift of a Gadget or a Gizmo. Artificial intelligence and large language models are important for the doctrine community to understand and use. In today's episode, Major Scott McMahan from CADD's Operational Level Doctrine Division discusses the conversations within the doctrine community and how doctrine authors can use these tools. Note that this conversation is a snapshot in time and changes to the Army-approved large language model, CamoGPT, are already well underway. Each fall, the doctrine community comes together for the Doctrine Developers Forum (DDF). At this year's DDF, we invited doctrine authors to share what they are working on. We bring these conversations to you in the 12 Days of Doctrine.
