Dr. Michael Pierce, an associate professor of history at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, is tracing the story of Nelson Hackett, an enslaved man who escaped from Fayetteville in 1841. His extradition from Canada ultimately helped protect future fugitives. Pierce will be speaking at noon Feb. 17 at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History via Zoom.
Becca Martin-Brown, the features editor with the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette , gives us a preview of weekend activities. She describes a new production from TheatreSquared as intriguing and says we can learn to paint in the style of an Ozark folk artist during a virtual event from the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale on Saturday morning.

The Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale reopened Sept. 7 and the Rogers Historical Museum will reopen Sept. 24 after both were forced to close for six months due to covid-19 concerns. Some things will be different, but Director Serena Barnett of RHM and Director Allyn Lord of Shiloh both promise much will be the same — or better.
