The Advisory Board | Expert Franchising Advice for Franchise Leaders
In this episode of The Advisory Board Podcast, Dave Hansen sits down with friend (and quietly relentless operator) Dustin Ingle, co-founder of Insulation Commandos, to unpack what operational excellence actually looks like when you're building a franchise system from the ground up.Huge thanks to ClientTether for sponsoring this episode—because when the mission is faster follow-up, tighter ops, and better owner support, the right systems matter.what you'll hear in this episode1) a support model that makes people do a double-take (and still stays profitable)Insulation Commandos is running an unusually high support ratio—roughly one to two home office staff per franchise owner—and still operating “in the black,” even with 26 owners. The big idea: profitability and heavy support aren't opposites if the model is built intentionally.2) onboarding that eliminates the “waiting around to start making money” problemDustin breaks down their six-week ramp-up and the bottleneck most franchisors underestimate: trucks, wraps, equipment, shipping, and timing. Their fix was deceptively simple and wildly effective: a centrally located corporate operation in Clarksville, TN where trucks and equipment are delivered, wrapped, staged, and prepped. Owners come to training… and drive home in a turnkey, wrapped truck with tools, uniforms, and materials ready to roll.3) training that goes beyond “classroom confident”Their launch training is split into two phases:phase 1 (virtual): sales training with heavy role-play, installation basics, and building science certification (BPI level 1)phase 2 (in person): deep building science + hands-on work, including a full practice house built inside the warehouse (crawl space + attic), then two full days on real jobs—start to finish, including collecting payment and getting the google review.4) “month one revenue” isn't a wish—it's a planInstead of a one-size-fits-all marketing push, they tailor launch strategy by market tier. In dense markets, lead volume helps. In smaller markets, they lean hard into grassroots + local partnerships: chamber, bni, retail booths, yard signs, door hangers, postcards, homebuilder associations, and more—starting at least two weeks before opening.5) referrals are the long game (and the real margin play)Because insulation is often “one-and-done,” recurring growth comes from b2b referral partnerships: restoration, hvac, pest control, builders, home inspectors, roofers. Dustin calls out hvac as a major “honey hole,” and notes owners with strong partnerships tend to have significantly lower marketing spend as a % of revenue.6) they treat every launch like a mission… with an after action reviewStraight from military playbooks: an aar after launches (and again around 90 days) to capture what worked, what didn't, and what to adjust. Training evolves based on the real questions owners ask post-launch—measured by tracking how many calls an owner needs in the first 90 days and steadily driving that number down.7) the “swat team” concept for post-launch growth supportAs owners mature past year one, the problems get bigger (more trucks, bigger facilities, team growth). So they're launching a four-person swat team (ops + sales + field leadership + dustin) to do week-long onsite “missions” in territories—hands-on help across sales, operations, and local networking.8) the call center move that doubled booking ratesThey started with a third-party call center (solid, “industry standard” results). Then they brought the call center in-house, trained agents through the same building science and franchise onboarding, and powered it with ClientTether. Result: booking rates jumped from roughly 20–30% to 60–70%, with a lift in close rates too—because the first call sets expectations, builds trust, and frames the job as “building science,” not a commodity quote.rapid-fire takeawaysstreamline logistics so owners launch faster and cash-flow soonertrain for real life: simulate, then execute on live jobstailor marketing by market type; grassroots wins in smaller territoriesbuild b2b referrals early for durable, lower-cost growthrun after action reviews so every launch improves the nextdon't outsource your first impression if you can build a better one in-houseGuest: Dustin IngleHost: Dave HansenSponsor: ClientTether

Episode SummaryWhat happens when athletic excellence outpaces spiritual maturity? In this powerful conversation, Coach Drake Reed—former professional basketball player, high-school coach, and author—reveals the hidden spiritual battles facing young athletes today. From locker rooms and college campuses to overseas professional leagues, Drake exposes why many Christian athletes collapse after success, not before it. This episode challenges parents, coaches, and athletes to rethink discipleship, identity, and preparation.Athletic training alone is not enough. Without spiritual armor, discipline, and practical prayer, talent becomes a liability instead of a calling. Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. The Cost of Things Clay points out the economy is going to be a central issue heading into the midterms and beyond. He also highlights President Trump’s first year in office, praising his administration’s achievements on border security and crime reduction. Clay underscores how Trump’s decisive actions have led to the most secure southern border in decades and dramatic crime declines in cities like Memphis, where murders are down 50%, assaults down 40%, and robberies down 60%. Nashville is also seeing historic lows in violent crime, reinforcing Trump’s “law and order” success story. Clay frames these wins within the EBC strategy—Economy, Border, Crime—that defined the 2024 election, noting that while border and crime issues have been largely resolved, the economy remains the key challenge heading into 2026 midterms. He candidly addresses lingering inflation concerns, rising consumer costs, and the political implications for Trump’s second year in office. She's Crazy! Clay dives into a discussion about a high-stakes congressional race in Tennessee’s 7th District, where Republican candidate Matt Van Epps faces Democrat Afton Bain. Clay warns listeners about Bain’s controversial past statements, including her disdain for Nashville, country music, and traditional family values, as well as her radical positions on gender and policing. He urges voters in Nashville, Franklin, Brentwood, and Clarksville to turn out for the December 2 special election, emphasizing that Democrats are pouring money into the race to flip a district Trump won by 20 points in 2024. Clay also tackles cultural flashpoints, criticizing Bain’s remarks about marriage and motherhood while advocating for expanded IVF support—a stance he credits President Trump for championing. The conversation explores broader cultural battles over family, ambition, and societal values, with listener calls adding personal perspectives. Ryan Girdusky Reads the Tea Leaves Data analyst Ryan Girdusky (host of It's a Numbers Game in the Clay and Buck podcast network) joins to break down early voting trends, turnout patterns, and what these signals might mean for the 2026 midterms. Ryan notes strong Democratic enthusiasm in special elections and shifting issue priorities, including healthcare, cost of living, and even AI policy, while reaffirming that immigration remains a strength for Trump despite media narratives. Where Are All the Good Men? Clay analyzes where the culture is on male and female relationships and where it all went wrong for women. It leads to a larger conversation about the difference between the sexes and how the Girl Boss era hurt women and became every man's fantasy. This week on Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd swing from ‘60s pop brilliance to modern digital chaos with their signature mix of heart, humor, and deep nerdery.First up, the duo dives headfirst into their 12 favorite songs from The Monkees — a band that began as a TV creation and evolved into something genuinely magical. Expect stories, laughter, and a surprising amount of reverence for an underrated catalog that includes classics like Last Train to Clarksville, I'm A Believer, (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone, Daydream Believer, and deeper cuts like Porpoise Song and Me and Magdalena. The Professor and Tim wax nostalgic about the band's legacy, the genius of Michael Nesmith, and how The Monkees managed to sneak counterculture weirdness into bubblegum pop.Next, they drift across the pond to talk about their new favorite binge: the BBC series Ghosts. It's witty, heartfelt, and absolutely packed with charm — much like this very podcast. The pair trade laughs over their favorite spectral roommates, discuss the show's mix of history and humor, and lament that American remakes rarely capture that British balance of clever and cozy chaos. Finally, Tim the Nerd takes aim at YouTube's newest headache: the platform's “Restricted Mode” being switched on by default. He argues that while keeping kids safe is essential, burying creators' content behind algorithmic walls isn't the way to do it. There's a lively discussion about digital gatekeeping, the illusion of choice online, and how creators who use a few choice swear words shouldn't be punished like they're smuggling contraband. From Pleasant Valley Sunday to online policy outrage, Friends Talking Nerdy Episode 432 is a mix of pop nostalgia, media critique, and unabashed enthusiasm for all things weird and wonderful. As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. Head to his website for information on how to purchase his EP, Here's To You, which is available on all digital platforms.Head to Friends Talking Nerdy's website for more information on where to find us online.

Access Louisville Live: Our next live podcast is 4 p.m. Oct. 29. Join us as we talk money and college sports with University of Louisville A.D. Josh Heird and University of Kentucky Deputy A.D. Marc Hill. Details and registration here. We've got a roundup of recent restaurant news on this week's Access Louisville podcast. We start with Ramen House's relocation. Reporter Michael L. Jones details how the popular eatery moved from its original spot in MidCity Mall to a new, larger location at 204 South Spring Street, previously home to Gary's on Spring. The move was prompted by the expiration of the Ramen House's lease and the owner's desire for a long-term arrangement, which was complicated by the MidCity Mall's potential sale. The owner, Jonathan Ham, took on the role of general contractor for the new space, facing numerous challenges including a flooded basement, the need to replace major appliances, and even a break-in that resulted in stolen tools. Despite these setbacks, the new location offers expanded kitchen space, a parking lot, and plans for a cocktail menu once the liquor license is secured, Jones said. After that, we chat about By Golly's Bar & Grill, an Ohio-based pub-style restaurant chain, in Clarksville, Indiana, which opened at the site of a former Hooters. Jones explains that By Golly's is using the Louisville area as a launchpad for regional expansionWe also highlighted the growth of Parlor, a successful local pizza chain, which recently moved its New Albany, Indiana location to a more visible spot on West Market Street. In other pizza news, we note that Louisville Pizza King recently opened a third location on West Oak Street. Late in the show we discuss a new season of “Wrestlers,” a show that previously aired on Netflix and showcased Louisville's Ohio Valley Wrestling organization. And lastly Jones shares a story about Groundhog Archeology, in which Patrick Donley, a local artist, discovered valuable historical artifacts beneath his Germantown studio after a groundhog unearthed china and bottles dating back to the post-Civil War era.Access Louisville is a weekly podcast from Louisville Business First. Pastors Patrick Hines (Bridwell Heights Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, TN), Jim Thornton (Reformed Faith Presbyterian Church in Clarksville, TN) and Henry Johnson (Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tazwell, VA) discuss chapter 13 of the Westminster Confession of Faith "Of Sanctification." CHAP. XIII.—Of Sanctification. I. THEY, who are effectually called, and regenerated, having a new heart, and a new spirit created in them, are further sanctified, really and personally, through the virtue of Christ's death and resurrection (1 Cor. 6:11; Acts 20:32; Phil. 3:10; Rom. 6:5-6), by His Word and Spirit dwelling in them (John 17:17; Eph. 5:26; 2 Thess. 2:13): the dominion of the whole body of sin is destroyed (Rom. 6:6, 14), and the several lusts thereof are more and more weakened and mortified (Gal. 4:24; Rom. 8:13); and they more and more quickened and strengthened in all saving graces (Col. 1:11; Eph. 3:16-19), to the practice of true holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord (2 Cor. 7:1; Heb. 12:14). II. This sanctification is throughout, in the whole man (1 Thess. 5:23); yet imperfect in this life, there abiding still some remnants of corruption in every part (1 John 1:10; Rom. 7:18, 23; Phil. 3:12); whence ariseth a continual and irreconcilable war, the flesh lusting against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh (Gal. 5:17; 1 Peter 2:11). III. In which war, although the remaining corruption, for a time, may much prevail (Rom. 7:23); yet, through the continual supply of strength from the sanctifying Spirit of Christ, the regenerate part doth overcome (Rom. 6:14; 1 John 5:4; Eph. 4:15-16); and so, the saints grow in grace (2 Peter 3:18; 2 Cor. 3:18), perfecti

Riding Shotgun With Charlie #236 Zeke Stout MGS Trade School Zeke and I have been running into each other at various events for a few years. If I remember correctly, Yehuda Remer (RSWC #012) introduced us at SHOT Show. Zeke is a great guy, very personable and funny. Matt Mallory & I have done some live shows with Zeke, including on at SHOT Shot 2025. He's been talking to me about doing a show in Memphis and we were able to pull it off after the NRA Annual Meetings in Atlanta this year. We started across the street from Graceland, yes, where Elvis Presley lived. He warned me to watch out for high speed chases as they have the best drop guns in Memphis! Zeke has made a great career for himself and in several fields. He started in medical sales, pharmaceutical sales, and medical supply sales just to have a solid income. The hours were neverending, being on call all the time. So it was time to move on. At one point, he got some help from an entrepreneurial friend and learned about marketing. This was his new passion. He's been able to use that throughout his career and in many of the fields. They opened a car dealership in Clarksville, TN, and he decided to get his carry permit. Once he was into firearms, he turned it full on. During drives to work he would call and talk with his friend Marty “Lefthand” Holder and they would talk about guns and called it Talking Lead. It hit them that they should start a podcast. His entrepreneur friend owned a Mexican radio station and he asked if they could use the studio to record their podcast. For a while, both Zeke and Vanessa Mandrel had a radio show called Projectile Disfunction. Within four episodes of Talking Lead, they learned there were other great firearm content creators who lived within 30 minutes. Folks like Hickok45, .22 Plinkster, and TNOutdoors9. James Yeager wasn't too far away either. Their episode with Hickok got them into 117 countries. In six months, they were one of the largest gun podcasts in the world. At one point, Zeke started doing marketing for a gunsmithing school who shall not be named. He took that company and grew them over 340% in four years. One day, he opened a message on LinkedIn and there was a message from a casting agency. They wanted him to audition to be a judge for gunsmithing on the show Master of Arms on Discovery Channel. According to him, the way to win an audition is to not care. Once they found out that he had other media and podcasting skills, they wanted him to host the show. Ashley Hlebinsky (RSWC #130) was also on that show. Unfortunately, the show only lasted one season. After the TV season of life, he took a hiatus from firearms and got into marketing in the motorcycle world. Yes, one day a week, he had to ride his bike for work! After a while of motorcycle marketing, he reached out to Modern Gun School, MGS. Part of the offer was to do what he did for the other company, but this time he wanted to be a part owner. One of the first things they did was rebrand to MGS Trade School so that it was much more acceptable. If that wasn't enough, Zeke took that marketing skill and got into golf while his son was taking lessons. He started Dilligolf. It's short for “Do I look like I golf.” He's been growing that YouTube channel, too. It was such a fun show to record and to hang out with Zeke. We do take a call from Yehuda Remer, The Pew Pew Jew. He's got so many stories and tells them well. You'll really get to know him and see what a great guy he is. Oh yeah… we do see a high speed chase and pick up a drop gun. As he says, “we've got the best drop guns in Memphis.” Favorite quotes: “Whenever I get into anything, I dive in, absolute head first.” “Talking Lead was started in a Mexican radio station in Nashville.” “What just happened? We might have something on our hands.” “Dude, we didn't know you did all this. Why don't you audition for the host of this show?” “I'll form an LLC and write off all my golf expenses. And I did.” MGS Trade School https://mgs.edu/ MGS On YouTube http://youtube.com/@mgstradeschool MGS Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MGSTradeSchool/ MGS X https://x.com/mgstradeschool MTS IG https://www.instagram.com/mgstradeschool/ Dilligolf YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@Dilligolf MTR Defense https://mtrdefense.com/ Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. A couple of major projects that the Louisville area has been watching for years appear to be inching forward — and we chat about them on the latest episode of the Access Louisville podcast. The two projects are the One Park development effort in Louisville and the redevelopment effort around the former Colgate-Palmolive Co. plant in Clarksville, Indiana. One Park is a massive mixed-use high-rise development from Jefferson Development Group planned near the intersection of Lexington Road and Grinstead Drive. Final state approval for tax increment financing, or TIF, for that project is “a couple weeks away,” the One Park team told Louisville Business First and WDRB News in a joint report. Nothing has really happened with the project since Kentucky's incentives board gave the first of two approvals needed to provide state support for the estimated $554 million development in early 2024.The news on Colgate is a new development team with Louisville-based Weyland Ventures at the helm. Weyland Ventures says it has plans for the historic former toothpaste factory, which closed in 2007. It's been used by businesses since but town officials have long wanted to see the riverfront property developed for something greater. Weyland joins the effort as an eminent domain case — brought by the town of Clarksville to acquire the former plant — has been dismissed in the wake of a settlement.“Their expertise in working collaboratively with communities to create vibrant and economically sustainable districts anchored by historic properties will result in a project of which we will all be proud," a statement from the town reads. We also chat about the latest with a new middle school being developed at the former Passport Health Plan site at 18th and Broadway, a new housing development in West Louisville and a new science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) building in the works from Simmons College. To wrap up the show, we talk about a new Five Iron Golf simulator coming to Downtown Louisville and the latest with a plan to build a new whitewater attraction at Origin Park in Clarksville. In this globe-trotting episode of The Bourbon Road, hosts Jim Shannon and Todd Ritter are joined once again by Rob Carter, one-third of the “Maltmigos,” for a single malt tasting session that travels from the Himalayas to the Highlands. Though Amzie couldn't make the show this time, the malt trio powers forward from their tasting post at The Corner Rickhouse in Frankfort, Kentucky. The spotlight this episode is on Royal Tiger Single Malt, a double-cask expression from Ocean King Distillers in Goa, India. Distilled by Craig Enriques, this single malt is made from six-row Himalayan barley and aged first in new ex-bourbon casks before being re-casked for a second maturation. The result? A spirit layered with creamy vanilla, overripe pear, honey-drizzled bread, and a whisper of spice from the oak—delightfully balanced and surprisingly sweet for fans of traditional single malt. Jim, Todd, and Rob dig into the expression's structure, remarking on its buttercream and vanilla-laced nose, light body, and smooth, sweet finish. They note that while the whiskey skews a little sweeter than their usual fare, it offers a refreshing break from the bolder, high-proof bourbons they typically favor. For a $49 bottle, the consensus was unanimous: this Indian single malt punches well above its weight. Other expressions tasted during the show are Ice Cream from Glenmorangie, Loch Lemond and Glen Scotia. As they sip, the conversation ranges from distilling techniques to global whiskey culture. The team highlights India's rapidly growing single malt scene and how regional water sources, climate, and local grain are contributing to distinct profiles that rival the best from Scotland or the U.S. They also muse about the potential for single malt cream liqueurs and whether peated versions could offer a new kind of dessert dram. Beyond the glass, the hosts discuss upcoming barrel picks in western Kentucky, share travel plans to Fort Campbell and Clarksville, and reflect on the value of tasting outside your comfort zone. For Rob, this was a first-time single malt deep dive; for listeners, it's a lesson in palate exploration, regional nuance, and just plain good company. So whether you're a bourbon loyalist or a curious malthead, this episode is an open invitation to explore a world of flavor—no passport required.
