In this episode, professional bodyboarder, Dave Winchester opens up about what truly anchors him — staying grounded through family and the importance of carving out time for himself. He shares his thoughts on the most underrated skill in bodyboarding, reflects on his unforgettable first Parkway Drive show and how Winston amps him up for surf sessions. We also touch on how the ocean has helped us in many ways and is a true form of medicine. We also explore respect in the water — everything from the language surfers use to the space they give each other . And we unpack what “friendly competition” really means when your closest friends are also your toughest rivals. Always inspiring to see him in the surf and equally rewarding to chat with.Photo - Sam Venn
Mason may not be very well known yet but he is dang sure doing his best by climbing through the ranks and trying to soak up as much as he can from those who are willing to offer their knowledge to him. Mason Mileski is a Utah farrier who has been shoeing for a short period of time but has made a big impact on his career by seeking help from top farriers in the industry. He didn't attend a farrier school but with his own motivation and persistence, he convinced his father in-law to teach him how to shoe horses. Though like most great farriers we've talked to on the podcast, he signed up for the Novice division at his states (the Utah Farriers Association) annual contest and learned so much by just diving in to get his feet wet and also meet so many like minded farriers who were willing to give up their time to help another out. From there he sought out the American Farriers Association certification system and convention competition. All the while he didn't know that he was going to be introduced to Bodie Trnka and become teammates in the Two-Man Draft Class. They eventually went on to win the Draft Class at the AFA Convention! Now Mason is competing at the WCB contests and placing well enough to have a shot at making the 2025 WCB Team. And something we haven't had many guests do to us on the podcast was have a couple questions lined up to ask us, so stick around to the end where Mason surprises us with a couple insightful questions for the us hosts! Undulating waves of crystalline fragrance burst from Floret Loret's sonic greenhouse. The multi-sensory experience of Fernando Loret de Mola's catalog is a tribute to his careful cultivation of a sound that bathes in natural beauty but also pulls from a dark, industrial cityscape. Carving his niche amongst a rising generation of experimental bass producers, Loret de Mola sets himself apart by introducing lush, hypnotic melodies into a scene so often dominated by singed and smoking sound design. Floret Loret dares to let his delicate compositions bloom amongst the jarring forays into brooding low end, and the result is an unpredictable and often heterodox bouquet of swirling colors and textures. Cross-pollinating sound design die-hards and melodic bass acolytes seeded a rabid fan base that brought his music to the attention of Deadbeats, which released his 2019 EP, Secluded Garden. Label heads Zeds Dead then tapped Floret Loret for the collab “Reason” from their We Are Deadbeats Vol. 4 compilation, an elegant arrangement of glistening themes that dance and twirl between shimmering rays of light and ponderous darkness. It's been a prolific run for Loret de Mola, who has released singles on Quality Goods Records and Electric Hawk, EPs on mau5trap and Bassrush, collaborated with progressive contemporaries Siska, Silva, Low Poly, and CAPSHUN (the latter of which was handpicked by CloZee for her Gravitas comp), and landed coveted festival slots at Okeechobee and EDC. Sprouting from a bleak live show landscape, Loret de Mola landed high-profile dates with Minnesota, Chee, and a featured role at Infrasound Music Festival and Shambhala. Tastemakers forging the next frontier in the left-field electronic space are flocking to Floret Loret's field to bask in his creations. To learn more visit: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1SOahWJen3CxHs0e9eCmFe?si=a__4bwsHRDC2srR2PWOspw

In this episode of The GoodKind Podcast, Clayton Greene, Chris Pappalardo, and Arthur Tew unpack the surprisingly spiritual side of... homework. Through stories from public school, homeschooling, and their own childhoods, they wrestle with what homework actually teaches kids—not just academically, but spiritually. They reflect on the difference between meaningful work and busywork, how homework intersects with identity and overwork, and whether school is subtly shaping our kids to see productivity as a primary value. By the end, it's clear: how we talk about homework shapes how our kids think about work, worth, and even Sabbath.TakeawaysHomework is more than just worksheets. It can train kids in independence and perseverance—or frustrate them with pointless busywork.Meaningful work matters. Kids are more motivated when they understand the purpose of what they're doing—whether it's a Shakespearean writing prompt or feeding chickens. All homework is not created equal. Parents can help kids distinguish between tasks that just need to get done, and tasks that are vital to learning. Homework shouldn't sabotage Sabbath. Carving out weekend space free from school demands models a rhythm of grace.Homeschool or public school, the big question is: what are we teaching them about work? Through homework, chores, and school routines, we're forming our kids' beliefs about productivity, rest, and their value.

Penny Wincer is the author of Home Matters: How Our Homes Shape Us and We Shape Them, her second non-fiction book, and host of the podcast, Not Too Busy to Write, where she interviews writers on their relationship with their craft and how they make time for it. In the years I've been writing this podcast, I've learnt alonement is just about practical considerations as it is about the emotional ones. Penny's work is a testament to that philosophy. Her work is centred around creating the time and space for alone time, even in the most challenging of circumstances - a challenge she herself navigates every day as the mother of a disabled child.Penny is a one-of-a-kind thinker and a brilliant interviewee, and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording. Diane Kappa is a lifelong artist and the daughter of an artist. After founding her art licensing business nearly 20 years ago, she spent many years designing to creative briefs—a challenge she still enjoys for its problem-solving aspects. But in recent years, her focus has shifted toward more personal exploration, a journey that has deepened her creative practice and enriched her commercial design work.Linoleum block printing has become her most personal and expressive medium. Drawn to its tactile process, bold shapes, and the meditative rhythm of carving by hand, Diane often combines her hand-carved prints with stitching and layered details. Her work explores the interplay of texture, pattern, and process—three themes that guided her recent artist residency. Texture is revealed through physical and visual layers; Pattern draws inspiration from sources like tattered wallpaper and vintage textiles; and Process honors the thoughtful, hands-on journey behind each piece.Travel continues to inspire her work. Having lived in Budapest for four years, she regularly attends creative retreats in India, France, Mexico, and across the U.S.—experiences that provide time to reset, refocus, and reconnect with what matters most in her art.A passionate teacher, Diane offers block printing classes from her studio, nurturing creative community and helping others reconnect with their artistic voice.Website: https://www.dianekappa.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/dianekappa/Retreat: https://www.artistsrising.net/diane-kappa-2026Thank You to Our Sponsors: Jet Creative and UrbanStems!· Jet Creative: A women-owned marketing firm committed to community and empowerment. We are not slowing down as my Pride Month Feature rolls along with returning show guest Eisner, GLAAD, and Ringo nominated comics writer Steve Orlando hanging out with me to talk about two of his projects dropping with the big two. Last time he was on we were talking about the ongoing Scarlet Witch series which is being continued in a new five issue mini-series The Vision and The Scarlet Witch, recognizing their 50th wedding anniversary which will see the return of White Vision. It's hard to believe their wedding was 50 years ago in Giant Sized Avengers #4. Steve is promising a Lovecraftian slat to the series which I'm personally rather excited about. Recently it was announced that he will also be working on the Magical Mysteries of Shazam on DC Go!, Venom: Original Sin jumps from Marvel Unlimited Online to print, the exciting conclusion of Ripperland who he's co-writing with John Harris Dunning just wrapped up and will be dropping as a trade soon with Dark Horse Comics, and the trade of Avengers Assemble: The Serpent Scenario just hit too. So, Steve is quite the busy guy at the moment. If you want to catch up with him, you can find him on BlueSky or on Instagram. Shark rescue Byron talked about on the show The Vision and The Scarlet Witch From the publisher The next chapter in one of comics' greatest love stories arrives this May! Celebrating the 50th anniversary of their iconic wedding in GIANT-SIZE AVENGERS (1974) #4, Scarlet Witch and Vision are back together in THE VISION & THE SCARLET WITCH, a five-issue limited series by current SCARLET WITCH scribe Steve Orlandoand returning series artists Lorenzo Tammetta and Jacopo Camagni. THE VISION & THE SCARLET WITCH serves as the latest evolution of Orlando's ongoing SCARLET WITCH run, which has successfully redefined the adventures of Wanda Maximoff. Carving out her own path in the Marvel Universe as a solo hero, Scarlet Witch's magic has never been more powerful. But when it comes to helping Vision, she'll need more than strength alone! Befitting their decades-spanning romance, Scarlet Witch and Vision team up for a dramatic saga that will test their souls and break their hearts! The Magical Mysteries of Shazam! From the publisher In The Magical Mysteries of Shazam! by writer Steve Orlando (Supergirl, Martian Manhunter) and artist Giopota, Billy Batson has had to grow up fast. Life with Tawny, a talking tiger and also Billy's adoptive uncle, is humble. It's not always easy! Billy lives with Tawny's other foster children, Darla, Pedro, and Freddy. Despite all he's been through, Billy is willfully hopeful. In addition to all the struggles a blended foster family faces, Fawcett City isn't exactly the safest place to live. It might be a fantastic, whimsical city full of both humans and talking animals, but it's also got a monster problem—in fact, a Monster Society! Soon Billy is granted the ability to say a magic word and transform into a mighty hero! Fawcett City cheers its new champion—and little do they know, he's one of their own. Or do they? Because Billy's siblings are pretty sure they saw him turn into a full-grown superhero. PATREON We have a new Patreon, CryptidCreatorCornerpod. If you like what we do, please consider supporting us. So you've scaled the mountain, built the nest egg, and maybe even shouted “I'm done!” across a pristine beach... now what? In today's Stacking Benjamins episode, Joe Saul-Sehy convenes a roundtable of heavy-hitters to tackle the most misunderstood phase of money management: decumulation—a.k.a. the art of spending what you've worked so hard to save. Whether you're staring down retirement or already deep into your golden years, you'll hear candid, practical insights from three financial thought leaders who specialize in making your money last. Joining Joe are Dana Anspach, retirement planning expert and founder of Sensible Money, Karsten Jeske (aka “Big ERN” from Early Retirement Now), and Frank Vasquez, aka Uncle Frank, host of Risk Parity Radio. Together, they bring decades of academic research, professional experience, and plain old common sense to questions like: What's the real safe withdrawal rate—and why does it depend on more than just spreadsheets? Should you chase simplicity or embrace complexity in managing retirement funds? What role do annuities and guaranteed income play in reducing late-life anxiety? How do you plan for cognitive decline without spiraling into existential dread? What's the difference between spending confidently... and spending carelessly? You'll also hear why lumpy expenses, long-term care surprises, and behavioral quirks can trip up even the best-laid plans—and how to bulletproof your strategy now. And yes, we get nerdy. Risk parity, sequence of return risk, and portfolio glidepaths all make guest appearances—but always with your favorite Stacking Benjamins charm and plain-English style. Because retirement doesn't need to be scary... but it does need to be intentional. Why your investment approach needs to evolve once paychecks stop The strengths and blind spots of the “4% rule” How emotions (not just inflation) affect safe withdrawal strategies When it makes sense to annuitize, and when it absolutely doesn't How to adjust for cognitive decline in your financial plan (and still maintain autonomy) The “spend conservatively early” myth—debunked Tips for managing healthcare and other unpredictable late-life costs Whether you're a retiree, a pre-retiree, or a spreadsheet-loving financial independence buff, this deep-dive episode will give you the confidence to manage the second half of your financial life like a pro. This isn't just about stretching your dollars—it's about building a life worth spending them on. So grab your planner, pour a cup of whatever says “retirement-ready” to you, and let's get smarter (and maybe just a bit weirder) about your golden years. In this inspiring episode, Tara chats with writer and writing coach Leigh Shulman about what it really means to carve out creative space as a mother. Together, they dive into the realities of writing while raising kids—navigating perfectionism, embracing messy drafts, and learning to trust the process. Leigh reminds us that writing doesn't have to be perfect to be powerful, and sometimes, just five minutes a day is enough to spark something meaningful. They explore how motherhood and creativity often go hand in hand and how community plays a crucial role in helping women feel confident enough to share their stories. From overcoming creative blocks to the magic that happens in the editing process, this episode is a gentle nudge to let go of the pressure and just begin—no matter where you are in your writing journey. Whether you're journaling for yourself or dreaming of publishing something big, this conversation is packed with encouraging wisdom for moms who have something to say but aren't quite sure where to start. Welcome back! I don't know what came over me, but I've just been in the mood to try new things lately, and soap carving is one of them! I would personally really like to get good at this just to make custom carved soap for friends. I've never been into handling sharp objects, so it's kind of funny and also great. There were only a few moments of almost oops, so I'm grateful for that, ha. I hope you enjoy this different kind of soap carving. Many blessings and the sweetest of dreams!
