¿Cómo voy a escapar? —No puedo verte, papá. —Pero yo sí te veo. Aquí estoy. Ten confianza. Suéltate, que yo te salvaré. —Tengo miedo de caer. —¡Suéltate, tírate! —gritaban otras voces—. Tu padre te recibirá con toda seguridad. No tengas miedo.

In this special episode of the AgEmerge Podcast, Grok, created by xAI, turns the mic on Monte Bottens, a fifth-generation Illinois farmer, entrepreneur, and visionary behind Bottens Family Farm, Ag Solutions Network, and Grateful Graze. Monte shares his journey from raising pigs in 4-H to building a diverse operation rooted in regenerative agriculture, blending Midwest traditions with California's crop diversity. He discusses the pivotal moments—like seeing Gabe Brown's soil organic matter gains—that drove Monte's shift to soil health principles, the challenges of overcoming conventional farming's cookie-cutter mindset, and his frustration with the industry's resistance to change. Monte's vision for the future is bold: transitioning to organic systems, prioritizing perennials, and using technology like precision ag to scale regenerative practices for large-scale farmers. This conversation is packed with raw honesty, practical wisdom, and a call to rethink farming for soil and community health. Monte also offers actionable advice for young farmers: find a niche, leverage local markets, and don't fear failure. From cover crop mishaps to mid-season equipment fixes, his stories of trial and error inspire listeners to embrace innovation and build strong teams. Whether you're a farmer, researcher, or innovator, Monte's insights on overcoming fear, learning from mistakes, and aligning with nature's design will leave you fired up to push the needle forward for sustainable farming. And, if you're as excited as we are about the future of agriculture, check out our website at asn.farm and there you can click on links to follow us on Facebook, X, Instagram, Linkedin, and YouTube. There's a lot of great things happening and always something to learn.
My guest this week is one of fly fishing's best writers and storytellers Monte Burke [31:35], whose writing you may have seen in Garden & Gun, Forbes, or The Drake—or perhaps you've read his book, and one of my favorite fishing books, Lords of the Fly. To discover who Monte, and many other people (including me) consider the finest fly-fishing guide who ever lived, you'll have to listen to the podcast. You'll also learn about his new book of stories, Rivers Always Reach the Sea. In the Fly Box this week, we have some questions that I think will help many other fly fishers solve problems they may have, including: A listener informs us about the different grain weights in standard fly lines, and how there is a much bigger percentage difference in lighter lines than heavier ones. What do you think about hooks that get left in a fish's mouth? What would you look for in an ideal brook trout spot? How can I keep panfish from grabbing my carp flies? Is there an advantage to silicone fly boxes over ones with foam strips? If I practice casting with my 4-weight fiberglass rod, will that affect my casting on other rods? How do you use a dubbing loop and when do you use one? The solid metal eyes on my redfish flies sink too quickly. Should I use bead chain or plastic eyes instead? Jacoby Landry, the new owner of Lafayette's oldest indoor shopping center, Northgate Mall, shares his vision to bring hope, commerce, and fresh energy to North Lafayette. Jacoby's energy and can-do attitude is a beacon of light for a community waiting to see how he will transform the mall into "The Hub." Jacoby, owner of JL Construction and Pont Breaux Plaza in Breaux Bridge, is the first local owner of Northgate Mall in years. Originally developed by Isan Fontenot, Dr. Daniel Voorheis and Joseph Angelle who opened it in August 1969, Jacoby paid $2.8 million for the property. His journey started under the wing of his grandfather, a framer, and his father, who ran dirt construction, trucking businesses, and in the oil field industry. “My entrepreneurial skills came from my dad. He's always been a business owner.” After studying engineering at UL Lafayette, Jacoby discovered his love for business and numbers, opening a tax office in his early twenties. Real estate soon became his passion, with his first major commercial property purchased from cousin Dominick Williams (formerly Dominick Davis of LSU and the Houston Texans). “There's nothing that I didn't try,” Jacoby shared, reflecting on his entrepreneurial spirit. In 2016, Jacoby earned his residential contractor's license, followed by obtaining his commercial license a year later. “I went from building custom homes to developing my own lots and building spec homes and selling them.” His interest in North Lafayette grew when he purchased seven acres on Louisiana Avenue at Butcher Switch Road in 2020 with plans for a med spa and gym. Facing zoning challenges, Jacoby joined LEDA's Elevate North Lafayette program, where he connected with Monte Anderson, a Dallas-based developer. Monte's advice led Jacoby to consider revitalizing existing properties, prompting Jacoby to set his sights on Northgate Mall. "I was always infatuated with the I-10 and I-49 crossing. I just always had it in my mind that it (development) was going to come to the North one day." “Before I started the program, I had goals of doing something bigger, but they really pushed me to actually go do it. They gave me the courage and knowledge to do it.” Once Jacoby walked the property, he couldn't sleep at night thinking about its potential. “Ever since the day I walked on the property, I couldn't sleep at night, thinking about it. I think I want to do it.” Despite initial nerves, Jacoby embraced the risk, saying, “I'm a risk taker. I could do this.” Jacoby Landry at the Northgate Mall in June 2025. Photo by Brad Kemp, Acadiana Advocate. Jacoby is rebranding Northgate Mall as “The Hub,” inspired by Lafayette's nickname, Hub City, and the I-10/I-49 cloverleaf, which will be reflected in its new logo. The redevelopment will focus on mixed-use commerce, green spaces, and lighting to ensure safety and create a welcoming atmosphere. “I want to change the whole theme of the mall. I want to have trees, green space, make it nice, have a lot of lighting and make it feel safe.” Contrary to negative perceptions, Jacoby says, “Statistically, there's no crime at the mall. There's more crime in other places. The mall's been dead for so long, there's nothing to steal.” Jacoby's vision includes a grocery store, children's entertainment options, and a health club and spa in the former Planet Fitness space in partnership with his sister, Rachel McCorvey of BeLuxxe Health and Wellness Center. “Our whole motto is to add ten years to your life.” The facility will feature a nutritionist, weight management services, Botox, IV drips, sauna, hot tub, salt room, cold plunge, a health bar, and two indoor pickleball courts. Pilates and boxing fitness will also be offered, bringing Red's Health Club-like amenities to North Lafayette on a smaller, community-focused scale. Jacoby emphasized his commitment to supporting current tenants, saying, “They've been a blessing… I came to introduce myself to ...
In this episode of the Twin Flame Truth® Podcast, Elle Hari welcomes Monte Blu, a certified Be With Your Twin Flame® coach, to discuss the unique challenges faced by spiritual seekers—especially empaths, psychics, lightworkers, and energy healers—on the twin flame journey. Monte shares her raw and personal experience of how her usual spiritual tools stopped working after soul recognition, forcing her to surrender old paradigms and learn to simply be. Together, Elle and Monte explore how fear-based energy can hide beneath even the most spiritual practices, why trying to “heal” your twin flame never works, and how the journey calls us to reclaim our power by releasing external authority. They also touch on celestial events, astrology, religion, and the illusion of needing anything outside of yourself to feel whole. NOTES: Guest Introduction: Monte Blu, a certified Be With Your Twin Flame® coach and lifelong intuitive, energy worker, and seer. Who Monte Works With: Empaths, lightworkers, psychics, spiritual practitioners—especially those struggling to make sense of the journey when their spiritual tools stop working. Monte's Twin Flame Journey: Decades of experience in spiritual and energy work Shocked when traditional tools failed after soul recognition Found clarity and resonance through Elle Hari's coaching modules Realized the importance of neutrality and presence Common Issues Faced by Her Clients: Over-reliance on spiritual tools like tarot, astrology, or visualization Difficulty letting go of identity as “healer” or “fixer” Belief that their psychic gifts should give them an edge—when they don't Feeling destabilized, lost, or “blocked” energetically Spiritual Trap of “Helping” the Twin Flame: Attempting to heal or guide the twin flame pushes them away True union only arises from balancing your own energy Focus must return inward—healing others becomes misalignment Religion, Spirituality & External Power: How fear-based systems (including religion and astrology) take your power The mind's habit of seeking safety in external narratives Real power is reclaiming responsibility for your energy and choices Role of Celestial Events: Some moons or retrogrades affect individuals due to energy sensitivity These events don't control you—they reflect your inner state The soul is expansive, like the sky and ocean—return to that truth Final Messages: Stop looking outside of yourself Let go of healing and fixing—it's all about being Surrender control and trust your soul's orchestration You are meant to walk this path—it's perfect as it is

Monte Mader grew up in a Christian Nationalist family where indoctrination and abuse were ever-present. I became a fan of her powerful voice as she eviscerated the lies of Christian Dominionism, Christian Nationalism, and the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) using her knowledge of scripture and Christian ideologies. She has over a million followers on Instagram as a “former alt-right Christian nationalist,” sharing her artistic talent and complex views to dispel widely believed radical Republican doctrine. She brings this knowledge forward and finds ways to bridge communications from her upbringing within a controlling but also highly influential alt-right family from Wyoming. She now shares the deconstruction of her childhood and aspects of her healing journey in several venues, including a new memoir she's working on. Her experiences are also reflected in her music as a “Rocky Mountain rock artist” living in Nashville, Tennessee. She writes songs and performs with her band, The Big Sky. She is so talented and is an inspiration. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
