Inevitably and regrettably, we expand our scope beyond Kevin Smith the filmmaker and into the equally upsetting world of Kevin Smith the comic book writer. Niel Jacoby, host of Spall Talk and Mature Listeners, helps us unpack the painful experience of reading Kevin's two consecutive Batman series, Cacophony and The Widening Gyre. If you want to hear us talk about Batman some more (but not Kevin), check out our new Patreon page featuring our exclusive miniseries BATMAN BEGONE at https://patreon.com/weneedtotalkaboutkevin Follow Niel on Twitter: https://twitter.com/fuckinalpamare Find their podcasts at https://spalltalk.blogspot.com And their music at https://nieljacoby.bandcamp.com
We're gonna have an O/S/T Party tonight, alright? Alright! This week, we are joined by Niel Jacoby, cohost of the podcast Spall Talk, to discuss the soundtrack to Alex Cox's 1984 punk rock sci-fi opus REPO MAN! Repo Man is a deeply strange film about punks repossessing cars, government conspiracies, alien life forms, and the soul-crushing nihilism of Reagan-era Los Angeles. On top of that, it's a film that wears its punk rock influence on its sleeve. With a theme song by Iggy Pop, and featuring 80s punk mainstays like Black Flag, Fear, and Suicidal Tendencies, this soundtrack is a crash course in the LA punk scene in the mid-80s. Thrash, hardcore, surf rock, new wave, etc. Repo Man has a little something for everyone. SHOW NOTES: Intro: "Dance Rocket" by Jesse Spillane Outro: "TV Party" by Black Flag Check out Spall Talk today! "Institutionalized" covered by Andy Merrill aka BRAK Noel Murray's take on the Repo Man soundtrack Paul Kirchner's "The Bus" Have a soundtrack you'd like us to cover?
