Joss Whedon was a nerd God with quirky quips, inspiring world building, and positive portrayals of female characters. But unfortunately that's just half the story: An icon on the streets, a Dr. Horrible in the sheets. Recurring issues of abuse and control on set and off popped up and it all culminated with a downfall that in hindsight feels expected and karmic. Buffy fan and Page 7 cohost Jackie Zebrowski joins us to go through all of it and analyze a creator who will be outlived by both his creations and actions. Want even more Nerd of Mouth? Razor Wire News hosts Fitz and McShane recap a chaotic week mixing major geopolitical narratives with bizarre tabloid stories and show banter. Fitz wishes his mother a happy birthday, while they preview topics including a Venezuela oil deal, renaming Lake Ontario as “Lake of America,” and intensified China-related narratives (election manipulation, audio hijacking, bot farms, and data-center issues). They discuss U.S.–Canada tariff disputes, claiming longstanding Canadian tariffs are higher than U.S. increases, and suggest Alberta may separate from Canada due to oil restrictions. They argue the Venezuela deal undercuts China and Russia, could help refill the SPR, and better matches Gulf Coast refinery needs, though they disagree on near-term gas-price impacts and note U.S. infrastructure limits. They cover claims the FBI eliminated a 1.8 million DNA-forensics backlog but question how and what it means for investigations. The hosts react positively to reports of tax crackdowns targeting George Soros nonprofits, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and CAIR, while noting Scott Bessent's past ties to Soros. Other topics include Portland Antifa labeled domestic terrorists, a Tibet–Nepal glacier flood disaster with large death and missing counts, and skepticism toward climate-change framing. Lighter segments include beer reviews (a disappointing pumpkin-spice scotch ale, Dragon's Milk Coconut Rum Barrel Reserve, and a Russian Imperial stout), a “fart corner” classroom story, a Los Angeles proposal for homeless sexual-relief clinics, masking hours at San Francisco's Exploratorium, Pennsylvania Gov. Shapiro's disputed measles-death claims, cosmic-radiation links to flight attendant breast cancer and weakened magnetosphere concerns, and a debate over human pheromones and “pheromone maxing.” Jefe joins for rapid-fire questions, roulette anecdotes, and a “farm report” on unusual foods eaten worldwide.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/razor-wire-news--5683729/support.www.razorwirenews.com

Well... I had one of those moments I wish I could redo... Listen in to find out what happened (and the big learning lesson). Much love, Joe
“Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.” (Psalm 141:3 NLT) It’s been said that God gave us one mouth and two ears for a reason: He wants us to listen more and to speak less. Think of how often we jump to conclusions or pass judgment in a situation. The writer of Proverbs warned, “Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish” (Proverbs 18:13 NLT). Nevertheless, when we hear something damaging about another person, our first instinct is to conclude immediately that the person is guilty as charged. And instead of saying, “Let’s go to that person and find out the truth,” we start to spread the news as if it were fact. In the old days when you went to a doctor, he would ask you to stick out your tongue. Then he would pull out a tongue depressor and tell you to say, “Ahhh.” Why? Because the tongue can be an indicator of what’s going on inside you. By observing your tongue, a doctor could tell what was wrong with the rest of you. The principle applies in a spiritual sense as well. Our tongue—or, more specifically, our words—are the table of contents to our lives. What we say gives away who or what we really are. That’s why David wrote, “Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips” (Psalm 141:3 NLT). In essence, he was saying, “Lord, set a watch over my mouth. I can’t stop other people from speaking evil about me, but I will not do the same to them. I will not be guilty of it, Lord. But I need your help. I can’t do this in my own strength.” Keep in mind that David faced off against a lion, a bear, the murderous King Saul, and a host of other enemies. He stepped onto a battlefield with the warrior giant Goliath with no fear and barely a second thought. Yet he knew what he was up against with the tongue. We need to follow his lead. We can accomplish some important work with our words. The apostle Paul wrote, “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone” (Colossians 4:5–6 NLT). He also wrote, “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them” (Ephesians 4:29 NLT). And the writer of Proverbs advised, “Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit” (Proverbs 15:4 NLT). But we can’t do those things on our own. Like David, we must pray that the Lord will set a guard over our mouths and keep a watch over the door of our lips. Reflection question: In what areas do you need the Lord to help you guard your lips? Don't forget to grab your free scripture journal at PrayingChristianWomen.com/journal today!Have you ever wondered if that "gut feeling" is your intuition speaking, or if it's actually the Holy Spirit? This week, Alana and Jaime dive into an honest and thought-provoking conversation on how to tell the difference between human intuition and Holy Spirit discernment—and why confusing the two can actually be dangerous. In this episode, Alana and Jaime tackle the all-too-common Christian habit of "over-spiritualizing" our personal choices. They unpack the spiritual danger of using the phrase "God told me" to justify our own desires, make excuses for being flaky, or shut down disagreements. They explain why making God the "fall guy" for our decisions or personality quirks can border on taking His name in vain, and why it's okay to just want things without putting a divine stamp on them! Jaime also shares the personal story of her family's move to Alaska, revealing how she used scripture to seek confirmation when she wasn't sure if the decision was driven by a personal desire or a divine calling. Together, they explore the beautiful truth that intuition is a God-given gift designed to protect and guide us, and why honoring your gut instincts (like sensing an unsafe situation) doesn't have to conflict with your faith. Come listen and you’ll walk away with a fresh perspective on the incredible freedom we have in Christ, a reminder of God's joyful and loving character, and practical wisdom on how to seek clarity when you aren't sure whose voice you're hearing. Blog posts written by Ariana Gomez—a young paramedic who recounts her encounters with a bizarre, mouthless, purple-and-green cartoon monkey that does not exist in mainstream pop culture. As a child, Ariana first encounters the character on a box of "Shredder Shocks" cereal purchased at an eerie, out-of-place gas station selling unfamiliar products. Years later, she finds an untagged plush toy of the same monkey falling off a shelf at a toy store. Her obsession deepens as an adult when a dying, delirious patient recognizes the plush toy, frantically warning her that "The Shredder Monkey" is a malevolent entity that stalks individuals through strange, anomalous mediums—like impossibility-laden cereal mazes and cryptic word puzzles—to break down their minds and drag them into an alternate realm. As Ariana attempts to solve the eerie clues left behind, she realizes the plush toy in her room is gradually changing positions and coming to life, leading to her sudden, mysterious disappearance as her final blog entries grow increasingly unhinged.
We have an adversary that accuses and seeks to test us, he is like a roaring lion seeking to devour. But the true lion, the Lion of Judah, disarmed the spiritual powers on the cross. With faith, discernment, power, and authority, God provides us with weapons that we need to break legal rights, cancel assignments, and overcome in Christ Jesus.

Director Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2, Imaginary) has a new killer shark movie out now called The Devil's Mouth starring Kathryn Newton, so naturally he had to come on The Spiel talk a little bit about his Spielberg-y influences. Yes, Jaws does come up, of course, but the conversation mostly focuses on Spielberg's move into the executive arena when he, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen launched their very own movie studio and called it Dreamworks. What happens when a filmmaker is put in charge? Does that have an impact on their own films? With multiple Oscar winning films and giant blockbusters that have come out of the studio over the years, there's no question that the venture was a success, but it wasn't without its lows as well. We talk about all that and more in this new episode of The Spiel! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
What if the secret to a calmer home isn't organizing more—but taking more away? Ginny sits down with New York Times bestselling author Myquillyn Smith to talk about her new book, House Hushing, and a refreshingly different approach to decluttering. Myquillyn introduces “backwards decluttering”: temporarily removing the visual noise from a room before deciding what deserves to come back. The goal isn't a picture-perfect minimalist home, but one with enough margin to handle the beautiful mess of real life. From empty kitchen counters and warmer lighting to meaningful collections, rounded edges, natural elements, and the “infrastructure of welcome,” Myquillyn shares practical ways to create a home that feels both simpler and deeply personal. She and Ginny explore why our surroundings affect our moods, how clutter becomes a silent—or not-so-silent—to-do list, and why hospitality is less about having a spotless house and more about creating space for people. This conversation is an invitation to create a home that asks less of you—and gives you more room to actually live. Grab a copy of Myquillin's book here! ** A huge thank you to our sponsors! Summer is almost over which used to be mean 2 things: The start of school and a new season of Saturday morning cartoons. But hey, they were not all created equally. Some certainly had higher budgets than others, some stood the test of time and others starred Louie Anderson as a kid version of himself and his abusive dad. We rank a bunch of classic Saturday morning cartoons and learn a lot about each other in the process. You'll have to listen to see who liked the Beetlejuice cartoon, who defends Reboot to the grave, and who wishes they could go back in time and kill all the muppet babies. A top bit of Lillian for an acting legend. We're delighted to host Ray Winstone at Dish for a meal fit for acting royalty. Ray, born and raised in East London, has starred on screens since his breakthrough role in Scum in 1979. Other credits from a storied career include That Summer!, Quadrophenia, Sexy Beast, The Departed and Nil By Mouth, alongside Kathy Burke and Gary Oldman. Ray has a strong connection to Sicily, and regularly spends time at his Italian retreat, where he lives with a degree of self-sufficiency growing fruit, vegetables, nuts and even making his own olive oil. As we find out, Ray has immersed himself completely into Sicilian culture, and takes time to swap notes with Angela about its benefits and idiosyncrasies. We also hear about Ray's sweet tooth, his love of a rib of beef and slow cooked meats, and the joy of sharing sloppy pig trotters with pals. Angela serves up a Dover sole with buttery capers & shallots, inspired by this pan-fried plaice recipe, with sides of Jersey Royals and green helga beans. There's also some of Angela's own focaccia to help mop up any delicious buttery juices. The wine flows through the episode, beginning with a bottle of Recchia Amarone della Valpolicella, with M de Minuty Côtes De Provence Rosé the suggested pairing for the meal. Don't forget the salted caramel truffles, too. They come along with the Goody Bag for the ultimate final temptation for Ray. Ray can be seen as crime boss Bobby Glass in The Gentlemen on Netflix right now, with Season 2 landing on 3 September. The show, directed and produced by Guy Ritchie, features a cast including Theo James, Vinnie Jones, Joely Richardson and former Dish guest, Kaya Scodelario. As we know from our chat with Natalie Portman, a set run by Guy Ritchie is always a tasty one, so what did Ray make of the catering?! You can watch full episodes of Dish on YouTube and on Spotify. Your weekly guide to the music biz and how it all works. This week, Stu and Joe revel in an extremely varied week of music biz news (including some more great pop football shirts AND a brand new jingle):→ 200 musicians have written a letter to the UK's new prime minister Andy Burnham. No, it's not to tell him New Order are rubbish. It's a protest against a decision he might be taking soon...→ $121bn. That's how much recorded-music will be worth globally in 2033 according to the latest industry forecasts – but will it be that big, and why?→ Listeners' Letters – Sarah shares some HOT Port Vale sponsor news; and Stefan has a couple of great questions about streaming fraud and whether innocent artists suffer. Stu investigates (Spoiler: yes, artists suffer).→ It looks like the Grammy Awards are going to quickly reverse-ferret on their ‘Asian Pop' category plans, after a protest from BTS.→ Spotify is giving AI-generated artists their own special badge on its service. Is this good news for human musicians?→ Fairground is the latest music startup focusing on independent artists and labels. And it's all about the ‘scenes'... → Why have people stopped drinking quite as much in Berlin clubs? What are they doing instead? Berlin resident Joe has some family-unfriendly suggestions...And in the special post-show lock-in section just for our Patreon Superfans, Stu and Joe prop themselves up at the bar – in this week's bonus material: More pop football kits: upon discovering that Massive Attack are sponsoring Bohemian Football Club, Joe and Stu have a look at their many other pop sponsorshipsThere's a huge gap between demand and supply of music podcasts. But do we really need more music chat, and if so, what kind of shows? Joe has invented some potential new music podcast genres, and pitches them to StuWe're entering the end phase of the UK festival season and one thing that has caught our eye this year is the the number of festivals that have lineups consisting only of tribute bands, offering festival vibes, nostalgia, and live music at a fraction of the cost of major mainstream festivals. Our intrepid duo hypothesise why tribute bands are so popular, propose a sausage/cider festival index, and Stu tries to guess the tribute band names that sound almost – but not quite – like the real band.===================================As ever, we welcome your feedback, emails and – in particular – any questions you might have about how the music biz works!Email us: thepriceofmusicpodcast@gmail.comSee you next week!Stuart and Joe======TPOM online: http://tpom.uk/Support The Price of Music on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/ThePriceofMusicFollow Stuart on X - @stuartdredgeFollow The Price of Music on X - @PriceofMusicpodFor sponsorship opportunities, please email - joe@musically.com

James said the tongue is like a bit in a horse’s mouth, a ship’s rudder, and a spark that sets a forest on fire. His readers blessed God in worship and then cursed people made in God’s likeness. As Smashmouth said, “My world's on fire, how ‘bout yours?” Why yes, Mr. Mouth, it is, indeed, on fire. As so many of us around the globe are sharing in this burning sensation, what better time than now to sit down and fire off a lot of questions at Fire Ecologist, Dr. Gavin Jones. We talk about what fire is, how hot it burns, fire trends, tinderboxes, lots and lots of forest fire flim-flam, tolerant wombats, cunning pine cones, thick bark, Indigenous fire stewardship and more. This episode might get you pretty heated but that'll only release seeds of new ideas and hope, because it's serotinous. That bad joke will make sense after you listen. The Columbia River bar is a fierce, yet beautiful body of water, spanning across Oregon and Washington. With over 2000 shipwrecks reported since 1792, it is also known as “The Graveyard of the Pacific.” In 1855, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began the construction of a jetty system, as a means to tame the dangerous ocean currents from the Pacific. Oregon filmmakers Brett Eichenberger and Jill Remensynder’s new documentary “Taming the Mouth,” chronicles this history and how it reverberates today on this vital waterway in our region.
