Blinko also produces the band's album art, giving them a brilliant and inimitable signature. Repetitions of moments in time chanting out, disrupting the peace while fighting to not be silenced, creating a contradicting cacophony.  "Cacophony is a word with Greek origins, κακοφωνία (kakophōnía), from κακός (kakós, “bad”) + φωνή (phōnḗ, “sound”). The sounds of the protest are not bad, but instead represent a coalition of communities calling attention to the negative actions surrounding us and for the destruction of oppressive forces, demanding a new arrangement. Please welcome to the podcast one of the all time greatest guitar players, Marty Friedman. Born in Washington DC, USA, he started his music career with bands Hawaii and Deuce before forming Cacophony with Jason Becker. Friedman joined Megadeth in 1990 and their Rust In Peace album, is considered one of the best heavy metal album ever. He received International success touring the world and having multi platinum albums. Friedman left Megadeth in 2000 and in 2003 moved to Japan to start a whole new life. Since moving to Japan he has become a Japanese celebrity and has eclipsed his accomplishments in Megadeth. He has released multiple solo albums, has been a producer and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in J-Pop, having consistent sold out tours. Friedman is a TV Star and a cultural ambassador. In December 2024 he released his autobiography which has been critically acclaimed around the world Marty's band will be touring China next May in support of his new album Drama. Her work, which combines science and art, is showcased in multiple renowned collections, including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Library of Congress. Her latest exhibition, 'Cacophony' at Jonathan Carver Moore, visualizes sound through layered prints. Carrie Ann discusses her process, inspiration from scientific data, and collaboration with scientists. About Artist Carrie Ann Plank:Carrie Ann Plank is a San Francisco based artist working in installation, printmaking, and painting. Focusing on layers of sophisticated geometry, Plank examines the space of intersecting patterns to describe new structures. Paris Paloma is an English artist who made a name for herself with her 2023 song “Labour.”  The song became a rallying cry for women, through its journal-like lyricism and dark folk-pop melodies detailing the women's emotional labour under a patriarchal society.  Now, Paris Paloma's debut album Cacophony is out August 30.  Through the 15-track album, Paris explores the human experiences of grief, love, patriarchy, and trauma through the imagers of Greek mythology, fantasy, and the literary gothic.  We talk to Paris about how her love of creative writing and fine art led to her unique way of storytelling, why she celebrates and explores the idea of womanhood as a rebellion to the norms of society we've all been raised in, and how her music has become a wildfire for women across the world to explore conversations of feminism and find community with each other. If you're hooked on phonetics, you may know that the Greek word phōnḗ has made a great deal of noise in English. Cacophony comes from a joining of phōnḗ ("sound" or "voice") with the Greek prefix kak- (from kakos, meaning "bad"), so it essentially means "bad sound." Other phat phōnḗ descendants include symphony, a word that indicates harmony or agreement in sound; polyphony, referring to a style of musical composition in which two or more independent melodies are juxtaposed in harmony; and euphony, a word for a pleasing or sweet sound. Kakos is responsible for far fewer English words, but one notable descendent is kakistocracy, meaning "government by the worst people," which, we'll be honest, doesn't sound great.
