"I'm not going to fail, I'm not a failure." Today we explore the journey of second year head coach of the Sooners, Tim Langford. From his days growing up in Virginia under the mentorship of Coach Rufus Knight, Tim has always blazed a trail not many have tried before. You'll hear the amazing story of how a near death car crash helped show him the light of coaching track and field, what it was like to coach collegiate track full time as a 22 year old, and the successes along the way at smaller schools. We get into a great conversation on talent identification as well as how to manage a collegiate track program on less than half the maximum allowable limit for scholarships. Tim Langford has been able to develop athletes to levels that see them get to numerous NCAA National Championships both indoor and outdoor. He has been known to do this at schools with very limited budgets. This ability has allowed him to ascend to University of Oklahoma where he is now the Interim Head Coach for the Cross Country and Track Program. He has quickly hit stride while at OU. With the Covid 19 stopping everyone's season, Tim took time to appear on an episode of Real Talk. In this interview he goes over his path from being an athlete to getting into coaching. He also goes over different levels of athlete competency, differences in coaching vs training and the development of 2019 Toyota USATF Indoor 60m Champion Demek Kemp as well as 2019 NCAA Indoor 400m Champion Tyrell Richards. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brandon-morton8/support

Today’s Dallas Type interviews Tim Langford: executive creative director, business owner and devoted-to-family-man. In our chat, Tim shares his thoughts about teleportation, his love for solving puzzles, how restraint is necessary for the “a-ha,” and ambition.
Today’s Dallas Type interviews Tim Langford: executive creative director, business owner and devoted-to-family-man. And for this 13th installment (we're halfway through!), I’m a bit more nervous and excited to share the interview with my boss and mentor, Tim Langford. Nervous, because, damnit, he’s my boss. Excited because, he’s one of my favorite mentors and cheerleaders. He was my podcast guinea pig and the coach I went to when I first thought of the Dallas Type. Like all the other ideas I’ve had over the past few years, he nonchalantly helped hone it into being better with his art of suggestion. And he’s been completing the big picture with his creativity and insight for the last 20-plus years: from his false start into medical illustration, to a career rooted in graphic design and problem solving, to his role in shaping designers and their ideas. In our chat, Tim shares his thoughts about teleportation, his love for Helvetica and solving puzzles, how restraint is necessary for the “a-ha,” and the word, "ambition".
