The hand piles are from recent hazardous fuels reduction and thinning projects. Pending all required approvals, ignitions could begin as early as Monday, Dec. 8, and continue through January 2026 as conditions remain favorable. Recent rainfall has created favorable conditions for pile burning in several areas across the forest. Smoke impacts are expected to be light and visible from Prescott, Prescott Valley, Wilhoit, Chino Valley, Dewey-Humboldt and surrounding areas. To participate, residents must submit an online request form at prescottvalley-az.gov/hhwp. The Town will be collecting these forms throughout the month of October 2025 to help determine the level of interest and plan pickup routes. Curbside pickups are scheduled to begin in November 2025. At the beginning of the month, residents who submitted a form will be notified of their specific pickup date. The Town's committee is suggesting funding the project through a new tax. Established to address the community's strong interest in a new recreation facility, the committee has been meeting since April 2025 to develop a two-part plan: defining what the community wants and determining how to fund it.
