"Dockery Farms is said to be the place where the Delta Blues began. That is a bold statement but once you hear the research I have gathered it will be hard to argue. Robert Johnson did not sell his soul for great musical talent. He went to Dockery Farms which is still open today and welcoming visitors."
Rock N Roll Archaeology (RNRA) presents "Southbound," an exploration of 1970s Southern Rock. Through detailed storytelling, RNRA chronicles The Allman Brothers Band, Duane Allman's impact, and their resilience with Eat a Peach and Brothers And Sisters. The band performed songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Fleetwood Mac, Rich Mullins, and Brandon Lake.
"First you need to know there are no swear words in this show. It was this week back in the 60s when the FBI released a letter stating that there were no curse words in the song Louie Louie. But people keep looking. This is a list of songs that were banned or otherwise maligned because someone was sure the singer was cursing. But there was no curse word. It is a long list."

This week, we received our annual audit visit from corporate! That's right, The Chairman not only graced us with his presence, but he demanded we deliver to you this episode: “Grave Mistake: BÖC Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. One could argue that selling 24M albums would negate “Shoulda Been Huge” treatment. However, when most folks can only name 3 songs by this band, and one of them is due to an SNL skit, we think they fit the bill. This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category; however, there is a strong case to be made that they've been largely forgotten as innovators and architects of what we know as heavy metal. We think they should be remembered as titans of hard rock and metal! Hope ya dig!Songs this week include:Blue Öyster Cult - “Transmaniacon MC” from Blue Öyster Cult(1972)Blue Öyster Cult - “The Red & The Black” from Tyranny And Mutation (1973)Blue Öyster Cult - “Flaming Telepaths” from Secret Treaties (1974)Blue Öyster Cult - “Tenderloin” from Agents Of Fortune (1976)Blue Öyster Cult - “R.U. This week is the seventh volume of our deep dive into the trippy and groovy beginnings of the heavy stuff! Cut your lava lamp on, gaze at that blacklight poster through the haze of smoke, and join your favorite rock n' roll grave robbers as they dig deep into the core of 70s Acid Rock n' Proto Metal crypt to unearth some obscure bands that helped influence and mold what would become known as Heavy Metal. What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Well, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This particular episode is planted firmly in the: LOST category, as all of these recordings occurred between 1970 – 1976. As always, our hope is that we turn you on to something new in a genre and decade that you may have thought you already knew everything there was to know.Songs this week include:Agnes Strange - “Messin' Around” from Strange Flavour (1975)Socrates Drank The Conium - “Death Is Going To Die” from On The Wings (1973)Piraña - “Thinking Of You” from Pirana II (1972)Zior - “I Really Do” from Zior (1971)November - “Ganska Långt Från Sergel” from 2:a November (1971)The Power Of Zeus - “It Couldn't Be Me” from The Gospel According To Zeus (1970)Wicked Lester - “She” from Wicked Lester (1972)El Ritual documentary in Spanish on YouTube from 2022 https://youtu.be/K1xz6R9nH3k?si=Gd6I90SC19ZkOLWmPlease subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/
"A story about the Payola Hearings came up in a music history feed and it occurred to me that we have never done a show on Payola. It is a rather interesting story of companies acting in their own interest with the backing of the government. You may think Payola is bad but I believe I can change your mind."
“One's a dude, right? I want the one that's NOT the dude…” DOWN III: OVER THE UNDER, the 3rd studio offering from southern fried doom lords DOWN, has a very 70's centric feel from start to finish. From the songs and the production to the album cover, OVER THE UNDER might just be the most 70's influenced and 70's sounding DOWN album ever recorded. Time to fire up the “bowrider” and begin preparations for “The Dockside Sessions” coming later this summer. Discover why knowing the difference between a succubus and an incubus is critical when it comes to certain forms of somnia, remember that if you're learning guitar to always focus on your “fingering technique”, behold some outstanding metal from Australasia that's very “throaty”, and just accept the fact that “I don't know where they could have put it where I would have liked it” when you JOIN US as we take a trip through the heavier side of the 70's with DOWN III: OVER THE UNDER. "It seems that lately that are more plane crashes and close calls than we have had in a while. There are many stories of musicians dying in plane crashes but what we have here are stories of survival over multiple crashes and air mishaps."
"This is something we should keep a good eye on. In an effort to become a leading force in AI the government in the UK is strongly considering rewriting their copyright laws to allow all copyrighted material including music to be offered fully to all AI companies. I know it sounds fake but it is not."
Today Deacon Harold & Ace are sharing from the Beacon of Truth Playlist talking about the song "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The purpose is not to over spiritualize songs but ones that have spoken to us and maybe you and what we can learn from them as we apply wisdom and truth to our faith. Also looking at Soulful Psalm 94:9-15.

"Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats announced he is dealing with an unnamed autoimmune disease that has taken his ability to play guitar. This is certainly not the first time something like this has happened. We have a list of musicians who are in a battle that has taken away their ability to play."
"Fred Durst and the members of Limp Bizkit have brought a rather substantial lawsuit against their record company for unpaid royalties. I know it is Limp Bizkit but the suit goes back to before streaming to when artists had lousy deals and if it is upheld in court, could lay bare much of what was going on in the 90s."
Mike Evans and Brandon Stokely open today’s show chatting about Team USA’s dominant win over Team Finland in the 4 Nations Face Off and introducing Stoke to Lynyrd Skynyrd. It’s an Is It Just Me Friday and the guys have to answer for their misdeeds in Trivia, international play, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. What’s Trending? One Team USA is dominant, the other hypothetical Team USA would get dominated, everybody loves Shaq, the Nuggets’ ex gets a broadcasting gig, and the children of Philly get a 4 day weekend.

"It seems impossible that a judge in Brazil could stop streaming services worldwide from playing a song due to a copyright concern. That is what is happening now to Adele. If other countries stand by the injunction then it could have a rather wide ranging concerns."
This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with former TNA Ring Announcer David Penzer about his new book, "SITTING RINGSIDE, Volume 2: The XWF, TNA and Life After Wrestling". And as an added bonus, we are joined by a special guest co-host: AAron Camaro from the Decibel Geek podcast! We discuss some of the topics Dave covered in the book, including an infamous confrontation between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Vince Russo, but most of this interview is actually about music! When Dave was here last time, he mentioned that he is a huge rock music fan and that he's seen over a thousand concerts. Since we're a music show, I figured this would be a great opportunity for Dave to share some stories and opinions on various rock and roll topics. In this conversation, Dave shares some hot takes on bands like KISS, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Chicago, and even Pablo Cruise. He also talks about his interactions with Gene Simmons and Rickey Medlocke from Lynyrd Skynyrd. Plus he tells us about some of the best concerts he's ever seen. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. What better way to kick things off than where it all began? Here's a look back at episode one and our conversation with Jim Peterik. ABOUT JIM PETERIKSinger, songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist Jim Peterik is best known as a founding member of the band Survivor and the co-writer of their Grammy-winning double platinum #1 hit single, “Eye of the Tiger.” But that's only the tip of the iceberg. Thirty-five of Jim's songs have appeared on the Billboard Pop chart, including seven Top 10 singles. His first major success came when his original band, Ides of March, took the Peterik-penned “Vehicle” to the #2 position on the Pop chart in 1970, spawning cover versions by Chet Baker and Shirley Bassey. After a stint as a solo artist with Epic Records, Jim formed Survivor in 1979, penning a string of hits for the band, including “I Can't Hold Back,” “High On You,” “The Search is Over,” “Burning Heart,” and “Is This Love.” While still writing hits for his own group, Jim forged a successful partnership with the members of 38 Special, co-writing classic songs, including “Rockin' Into the Night,” “Hold On Loosely,” and “Caught Up In You.” Widely respected as a top-notch collaborator, Jim has co-written successful songs with a number of artists, including the Beach Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sammy Hagar, Cheap Trick, the Doobie Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Mindi Abair. The long list of those who have covered his compositions includes Paul Anka, Gloria Gaynor, Tony Orlando, Reba McEntire, Larry Gatlin, Blackhawk, and The Outlaws. He is the co-author, with Dave Austin, of Songwriting for Dummies.
