This week, we're having a ball -- scrapping, yelling and mixing it up, loving every minute with this damn crew as we close out Gene HackMarch with a regal induction into the podcast canon. It's 2001's The Royal Tenenbaums, directed by Wes Anderson, co-written by Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson, and starring Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston, Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Danny Glover and the voice of Alec Baldwin. While Anderson launched himself to prominence with Rushmore, Tenenbaums marked the full-throated arrival of a confident new voice in American cinema, and arguably remains his best effort nearly two and a half decades later. Perfectly utilising Hackman's gruff hard-ass patriarcal screen presence, cut by the man's easily over-looked and ofter under-utilised comedic abilities, it's a redemption story for an almost historically bad dad -- a funny, feel-good movie that says it's never too late to make things right. Plus: Hayley's got another theatrical outing to report on as she headed to the cinema to catch Black Bag, while both hosts have food fixations on the brain this week. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our discussion, The Royal Tenenbaums is currently available to stream on Disney+, as well as Crave and Starz north of the border. This is the second of two episodes in which we look at films in which Denzel Washington is a lawman of some kind. We start with the 1995 neo-noir Devil in a Blue Dress, directed by Carl Franklin and co-starring the likes of Don Cheadle and Jennifer Beals. It's a period piece, set in post-WW2 California, and it deals with a man looking for a job but finding a mystery instead. Stay tuned--in Part 2 we look at 2003's Out of Time (not to be confused with 1987's No Way Out, which has a few plot similarities.)

Kurt Angle earning his first piece of Championship gold in the build to the show, and his attempt to add to his trophy case. In February of 1998, WWE were on the road to WrestleMania XIV, arguably one of the most important wrestling shows in the company's history. That month they were presenting No Way Out of Texas: In Your House, to be headlined by an 8-man tag match featuring 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, Cactus Jack & Chainsaw Charlie versus D-Generation X with one drawback- one of their biggest stars, and WWE Champion at the time, Shawn Michaels, was unavailable, owing to the back injury he'd suffered at that year's Royal Rumble (and would keep him out of action after WrestleMania for years). Who WWE would book to replace Shawn Michaels in the match was a major talking point going in...and coming out of the event. There's the story of how Costner wanted to direct Revenge but lost out thanks to producer Ray Stark. There's Madonna's infamous reaction to Costner's use of the word “neat” after one of her shows in Madonna: Truth or Dare (“Anybody who says my show is neat has to go.” Also, watch Warren Beatty age in real time). There's the incredible chemistry between Costner and Diane Lane in Let Him Go (and Man of Steel for that matter). Costner is a relic of another time. He represents an ambition that does not really exist anymore in Hollywood. In Episode 92, Don and I talked with three prolific writers who have made profound literary  contributions to the Dementia community and now pooled their talents and love of poetry to launch a beautiful anthology, “Poetry For the Dementia Journey”, that sprung from an online event featuring over 30 poets. (This just may be one of my favorite episodes!!) Marianne Sciucco is not a (dementia) nurse who writes but a writer who happens to be a nurse.  Her novel, Blue Hydrangeas, an Alzheimer's Love Story, is a testament to the power of love in the face of this heart wrenching disease.  She has since launched her own podcast “Untangling Alzheimer's and Dementia: An AlzAuthors Podcast” and is the Co-founder of the non-profit AlzAuthors.com, a global community of over 300 dementia-centered writers. Ann Campanella is the manager/director of AlzAuthors and is a former magazine and newspaper editor. She is the author of two award-winning memoirs and four collections of poetry. Her first memoir, Motherhood: Lost and Found, tells the story of her mother's descent into Alzheimer's and was named “One of the best Alzheimer's books of all time,” by Book Authority two years in a row. Slatton welcomed AlzAuthors to the show to learn about their new book "Poetry for the Dementia Journey - An AlzAuthors Anthology".   Marianne Sciucco - Co-Founder of AlzAuthors:   Marianne Sciucco is not a nurse who writes but a writer who happens to be a nurse, using her skills and experience to create stories that bear witness to the humanity in all of us. She writes contemporary, women's and young adult fiction. With more than 20-years' experience as a staff nurse and case manager, she's worked with countless families dealing with issues related to aging, elder care, Alzheimer's, and dementia. In 2002, she put the two together and began writing about the intricate lives of people struggling with health and family issues.   She published her debut novel, "Blue Hydrangeas, an Alzheimer's love story," in 2013 to glowing reviews. This book led her to become a co-founder and manager of AlzAuthors, the global community of authors writing about Alzheimer's and dementia from personal experience to light the way for others. Started by three women who had each written a book about dementia in 2015, there are now more than 350 author contributors. She is the producer and host for Untangling Alzheimer's and Dementia, an AlzAuthors Podcast. In 2018, she was recognized by her hometown newspaper as one of the Most Influential Women in her community for her work promoting Alzheimer's awareness. Ann and her husband live on Lake Norman in North Carolina and enjoy nightly sunsets.   Sue Fagalde Lick - Caregiver & Author:   Sue Fagalde Lick, who lives on the Oregon coast, has published three poetry chapbooks, Gravel Road Ahead, The Widow at the Piano, and Blue Chip Stamp Guitar, and a full-length collection, Dining Al Fresco with My Dog. Her prose books include Stories Grandma Never Told, Childless by Marriage, and No Way Out of This: Loving a Partner with Alzheimer's. When not writing, she plays music wherever people will listen.
