During the last episode, TJ gave us several tips on how to raise our children so that may retain their faith throughout their secular education. On this short OT episode, we get personal with TJ and ask him the three questions we always ask our guests: What do you think is one of the greatest challenges facing Christianity today? What difference has Jesus made in your life? What advice do you have for our listeners to stay spiritually fit?

Today's episode features TJ Kirk of Freed-Hardeman University. Before TJ become an administrator in higher education, he worked in the public school system as an educator and administrator. Because of his background in education and ministry, TJ has a unique perspective on ways we can raise our children to be faithful Christians (K-College) in a culture that desperately wants them to leave their Christian upbringing. This episode seeks to answer the following questions: What are some tips for students to maintain their faith in school while it is being tested more and more? What suggestions are there for educators to share their faith while keeping their jobs? What can families do to better prepare their children for the challenges they'll face in the college years? How can families of current college students best provide spiritual support to their children away from home? Why do children of faithful parents stop being faithful?

In this episode, I'm talking with TJ Kirk. TJ is a husband, father, minister, and educator and was recently named as the new vice president of student services at Freed-Hardeman University. TJ has been in education since 2006, serving in several roles such as principal, assistant principal, teacher, and coach. His wife Sheridan is a special education teacher in the Chester County school system, and they have two wonderful daughters. Let's face it, middle school is a weird time. And for most of us, that life stage was mostly about survival. Voices change, people smell weird, clothes don't fit right, you remember it. TJ and I discuss how we, as parents, can help our kids navigate this ever-changing landscape. He also shares some ideas for how we can effectively minister to teachers and staff while positively impacting the culture of our schools. TJ is a humble and gifted communicator, and I'm grateful for his time. I learn something new every time I hear him speak. This conversation was no different. Thanks for joining us. My guest this week is the phenomenal guitarist Charlie Hunter. Through innovative use of 7 and 8-string guitars, Charlie has built a career on composing, performing and improvising while developing his mind-bending techniques of essentially playing guitar and bass at the same time on the same instrument. I've followed Charlie since his days in a Bay Area band called TJ Kirk, through his many solo, trio, quartet and collaborative projects. He was also involved in the early 90's hip hop and soul scenes, working with both Michael Franti and D'Angelo. Recently Charlie has hooked up with the spectacular singer, Lucy Woodward, and toured all over the world with their new group after releasing their latest record, "Music! Music! Music!". We got into all of it, and then some... As always, you can skip ahead to the interview at about 16 minutes.
