Infinitely curious about the nature of existence and its relationship with social media and memes.
These two folks are pretty much everywhere I go and always somehow together. Both of em have done a hell of a job helping the local arts scene thrive and grow. We talked about a wide range of topics from the need for more criticism of established acts in the area to a fascinating story about a play that never was. Katie Cusack is a writer, editor, podcast host, local art enthusiast/influencer, etc. She's been writing about local art for The Collaborative Magazine (and previously The Alt) and her passion for it comes through in her work. If you don't read The Collaborative already, check out her author page at least and you'll see a bunch of content from someone who clearly cares about what they're writing about. Dan Maddalone does pretty much everything having to do with music. He's a studio and live audio engineer, he hosts live shows at The Chateau, a DIY venue he established and grew in his own basement he has even been a DJ for WEQX as host of it's Going Underground show. Everything he does, it seems to me, is about promoting local art and opening doors for musicians who might have trouble getting through certain gates. He very obviously cares not only about the art of music, but about the people trying to make it and ESPECIALLY the ones who are trying hard to show up but having trouble finding a place to show up TO. ——————————————————————————————Find Katie at:——————————————————————————————COLLAB PROFILE:http://collaborativemagazine.org/author/katie-cusack/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/kkates_mariee/TWITTER: https://twitter.com/katiecusackk ——————————————————————————————Find Dan at:——————————————————————————————THE CHATEAU INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/chateaushows/ THE CHATEAU FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/ChateauShows/ COUPONS INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/1800coupons/ COUPONS BANDCAMP: https://coupons518.bandcamp.com/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/beefpattyspecial/ TWITTER: https://twitter.com/DanMaddalone——————————————————————————————Follow 7th Helix At——————————————————————————————INSTAGRAM: https://instagr.am/7th_HelixTWITTER: https://twitter.com/7th_HelixYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxOuy7o_q7thYhuwzg8b9rwFACEBOOK: https://fb.me/7th.HelixSPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/51GTz2KSoNvkEMU4nJ0eOPITUNES: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/7th-helix/id1467003306WEBSITE: https://SeventhHelix.podbean.com
I met Isavella Vassilakis, I think, in the spring of 2019. We got on real well real fast, but I don't think that's really got anything to do with me. Izzy is deeply intuitive and, beyond that, truly seems to understand how other people view the world (even when she doesn't view it the same way). I had heard she was into astrology, but I had no idea how much. One of the first times we talked, I had told her I was a Aries-Taurus "cusp" and she all but rolled her eyes at, well, not really me but the concept of a cusp. If I was a betting man, I'd tell you that she knew right then that I am resistant to all things Aryan, though I am in fact a natural born Aries. Izzy, if you're reading this I hope you're happy about all of the "I's" and the narcissistic first-person perspective from which I am writing this. When I reached out to her about doing a podcast on astrology I thought it might be neat for her to do my whole natal chart and do a whole reading. Partially just because I'm an Aries and naturally self-absorbed (har har), but mainly because I thought it might be neat for her to have something to show people what it might be like. One thing I did decide with this episode was not to cut anything out at all; I figured if there were any people considering having their reading done by Izzy, they might want to see how she can handle the convo going in ways that helped (at least me) understand. As always, I'll be uploading some other shorter clips on YouTube later in the week.In all seriousness, talking with Izzy has given me a much better understanding of myself and has opened the door to allowing myself to be things I resist in myself. If you are at ALL interested, I've included links below to her socials but also to a copy of my natal chart as assembled and curated by Izzy herself. I love the overview page and the visual of the total chart, but more than that I love how she explains what different things mean in ways that feel specifically crafted for the way I see things. She'll be very specific, but then throw in a contemporary adage or aphorisms to lighten the tone. Reading it and talking to her never feels clinical or sterile, but it also is detailed and specific enough to be useful and directed.Look out for Izzy's new project "First House Rising" soon!!! I have tried to describe what going to a The Lawn Sausages show is like to friends for years, trying to get them to come check it out. It is almost impossible to describe. The best thing I've come up with is this: Imagine all of the unbounded creative ideas and insanity that might come out of teenagers trying to make music in a garage except with the added wisdom of having been around the block a few times and knowing a thing or two. The Lawn Sausages have been rocking out in the Capital Region for 30 years this January. As they get into in the podcast, the band formed as a sort of bullshit calling in response to the idea that there was no way to play music in the area. I guess once you've proven ONE show is possible, you just keep goin'. Jimmy Barrett and Paul Hebert of The Lawn Sausages sit with me and tell me about all of the carnival that has been this bands history. How they got started and all sorts of things that happened to them along the way. Jimmy Barrett is also the owner of the River Street Beat Shop record store in downtown Troy. Both Paul and Jimmy have opened doors for me personally and their love of music seems to know almost no genre bounds. ——————————————————————————————Find The Lawn sausages at:——————————————————————————————FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/thelawnsausages/YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFh0zu96UDiHpVaDbcRSxbQINSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/riverstreetbeatshop/ (Beat Shop) ——————————————————————————————Follow 7th Helix At——————————————————————————————INSTAGRAM: https://instagr.am/7th_HelixTWITTER: https://twitter.com/7th_HelixYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxOuy7o_q7thYhuwzg8b9rwFACEBOOK: https://fb.me/7th.HelixSPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/51GTz2KSoNvkEMU4nJ0eOPITUNES: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/7th-helix/id1467003306WEBSITE: https://SeventhHelix.podbean.com
What do you do when a near 5 year relationship ends? Patrick Grace, Alex Wollyung, and Jacob Luke Hite of Good Fiction played their final show together in October of 2019. A month and a week later the guys met up for the first time since that show and we talked about it.A lot of the podcast we goofed around, but we did talk a lot about the importance and influence of social media both in terms of its effects on us, but also in how to use it as a tool in a healthy and productive way. Jake and I got into a little side discussion where he teaches me about zoomer culture, memes, etc. Pretty useful, actually. Patrick and Alex have been part of the band from its origin, but Jakes late youthful addition, in many ways, energized the band and pushed them into high gear for their finale. Pat has since moved to Boston to start his own new project on music production, Jake is finishing his education in music (though he hopes to be picked up onto something else before he finishes), and Alex has his own ideas about his future. But the trio greeted eachother like family at the holidays and it's pretty clear they'll be lifelong friends. Though each is setting out on a new adventure, they have a sturdy platform to launch from that they all built together. ——————————————————————————————Find the FORMER Good Fiction at::——————————————————————————————Right Stuffy BBY Music Video: https://youtu.be/RYib0hOxnfEINSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/goodfiction/ (Band) | https://www.instagram.com/pgracemusic/ (Patrick's new project) | https://www.instagram.com/jacoblukehite/ (Jake) | https://www.instagram.com/alex_wolly/ (Alex) . | https://www.instagram.com/gatrickprace/ (Pat)TWITTER: https://twitter.com/GoodFiction (Band) | https://twitter.com/JacobLukeHite (Jake) | https://twitter.com/pgracemusic (Patrick's new project) |SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3Aw8uLvB2gtFgx9sLHmOQL FAXCEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/GoodFictionMusic/ WEBSITE: https://goodfictionofficial.com/ ——————————————————————————————Follow 7th Helix At——————————————————————————————INSTAGRAM: https://instagr.am/7th_HelixTWITTER: https://twitter.com/7th_HelixYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxOuy7o_q7thYhuwzg8b9rwFACEBOOK: https://fb.me/7th.HelixSPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/51GTz2KSoNvkEMU4nJ0eOPITUNES: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/7th-helix/id1467003306WEBSITE: https://SeventhHelix.podbean.com
Adrian Lewis, while thus far quiet on releasing official recordings of his songs, has been giving incredible performances under his nick-and-stage name "The Age" for the past few years and if you've been lucky enough to catch him play, I'm sure you're as anxious as I am for an album.I approached Adrian after a show when he managed to bring up the concept of spirituality and his own personal faith without it being at all alienating to anyone in the audience asking him if he'd be interested in doing a podcast episode on that topic. His excitement over it was unexpected but definitely welcome.I expected us to talk about the influence of faith in writing and performing music, and we did touch on that, but Adrian went a whole other direction and I'm glad he did. ——————————————————————————————Find The Age at:——————————————————————————————INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/iamtheage/FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/theage/SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6Glid1rXdPtSkSIDWy3mJtSOUNDCLOUD: https://soundcloud.com/iamtheage ——————————————————————————————Follow 7th Helix At——————————————————————————————INSTAGRAM: https://instagr.am/7th_HelixTWITTER: https://twitter.com/7th_HelixYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxOuy7o_q7thYhuwzg8b9rwFACEBOOK: https://fb.me/7th.HelixSPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/51GTz2KSoNvkEMU4nJ0eOPITUNES: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/7th-helix/id1467003306WEBSITE: https://SeventhHelix.podbean.com
Olivia Quillio has been writing songs since age 17. With the ability to silence a room Quillio’s voice soars while singing about the heartache and triumph of love. Known for her musical depth, soporific vocals and poignant, humorous banter - Quillio stands apart by making her truth known, no matter how vulnerable. Currently she is recording her third album, Earthside.Olivia brought on her friend Victoria Swift Rutledge, a yoga teacher, musician, and (I feel confident saying) healer. In this episode we started by talking about what it's like being highly sensitive as an artists. Not as in thin-skinned, but as aware and effected by energy. From there we go into topics that bright us all the way through social media to the grief that comes from self work and constant personal deaths. ——————————————————————————————Find Olivia Quillio at:——————————————————————————————WEBSITE: https://oliviaquillio.com/INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/sings_her_way_upYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/user/OliviaQuillioFACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/pg/OliviaQuillioSPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3gxnMcB9iGic9C3wdq89m1SOUNDCLOUD: https://soundcloud.com/oliviaquillioBANDISINTOWN: https://www.bandsintown.com/a/2569957 ——————————————————————————————Find Victoria Swift Rutledge at:——————————————————————————————WEBSITE: https://www.victoriarutledgeyoga.com/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/swift_v/FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009398816598 ——————————————————————————————Follow 7th Helix At——————————————————————————————INSTAGRAM: https://instagr.am/7th_HelixTWITTER: https://twitter.com/7th_HelixYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxOuy7o_q7thYhuwzg8b9rwFACEBOOK: https://fb.me/7th.HelixSPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/51GTz2KSoNvkEMU4nJ0eOPITUNES: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/7th-helix/id1467003306WEBSITE: https://SeventhHelix.podbean.com
A few weeks ago, my dad had a few friends from childhood visiting. They came over to my place to check it out and they wanted to see the podcast studio. I figured I'd set it all up to let them get a feel for what it sounds and feels like, but when the conversation kept going I decided to hit record (even though I really didn't have time to get the cameras set up to keep everyone in frame properly). So here's my dad (Tom Dzembo) and his friends Ed Seeberger and Rocky Rausch (who played Triple-A) talking mostly about a lot about baseball. From stories of friendships formed over the game to controversial calls to the benefits of neighborhood kids just playing pickup vs the scheduled format of Little League. This was a lot of fun for me personally, I hope you enjoy it. It happens, also, to be my dads birthday while I'm uploading this episode. ——————————————————————————————Follow 7th Helix At——————————————————————————————INSTAGRAM: https://instagr.am/7th_HelixTWITTER: https://twitter.com/7th_HelixYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxOuy7o_q7thYhuwzg8b9rwFACEBOOK: https://fb.me/7th.HelixSPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/51GTz2KSoNvkEMU4nJ0eOPITUNES: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/7th-helix/id1467003306WEBSITE: https://SeventhHelix.podbean.com

This system of diagnosis and patient management applies to acute, subacute and chronic conditions of the spine and extremities. It offers a reliable and practical approach that focuses on "what patients need" and not on "what therapists want to do".He also talks about the difference between the unavoidable reality of pain and the choice of suffering as well as the distinction between the reasons to see your general physician vs someone like a physical therapist. ——————————————————————————————Find Matthew Goodemote at:——————————————————————————————WEBSITE: https://www.goodemotept.com/ ——————————————————————————————Follow 7th Helix At——————————————————————————————INSTAGRAM: https://instagr.am/7th_HelixTWITTER: https://twitter.com/7th_HelixYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxOuy7o_q7thYhuwzg8b9rwFACEBOOK: https://fb.me/7th.HelixSPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/51GTz2KSoNvkEMU4nJ0eOPITUNES: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/7th-helix/id1467003306WEBSITE: https://SeventhHelix.podbean.com
Zan & The Winterfolk is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Zan Strumfeld. Formerly a solo performer, Strumfeld carved her own niche of winter folk—anthems for the revivalists, lullabies for the lonely, ballads for the hopeful. In 2017, she brought together an eclectic group of musicians with wide ranging influences, from folk to bluegrass to jazz to rock. Paired with Strumfeld’s seductive vulnerability and soulful lyrics, The Winter Folk creates a unique and captivating sound in both their recordings and live performances. Since forming, they were named “2018’s Best Folk Band” by The Alt and nominated for “Folk Artist of the Year” at the 2019 Capital Region Eddies Awards. They have opened for acts including Grammy-nominated Robbie Fulks, Sean Rowe, Ben Caplan, and The National Reserve. The band has two EPs, “How To Be Alone” (2019) and "Your Girl No More" (2018).In this podcast we talk about their influences, the style of music they play, their characteristic on-stage banter. Candy Ambulance has been punk as f*ck since they came on the scene in 2014; half a decade later that hasn't changed. If anything, they've gotten harder, better, faster, stronger. From their humble beginnings taking their clothes off on stage to their uniquely stylistic music videos that can somehow be simultaneously hedonistic and macabre and beautifully human they've evolved as musicians but stayed true to the one-two punch of their grunge inspired sound and intensely emotional lyrics. In this episode we talk a lot about touring; how to do it and stay healthy without going broke and the crazy things that happen when you've surrendered to road and the stage. It's in the second half of the podcast, though, that we talk about their new album Traumantic (set to release in September). Caitlin Barker (vocals, guitar, and songwriter) opens up about the trauma which inspired the very heavy material on this album. She also voices her concerns about being the front woman exposing decidedly female issues with a band composed of herself and 2 men. Jon Cantiello (drums/percussionist) talks about the shock of trying to convey through sound a feeling that they'll never be able to experience and Jesse Bolduc (bass, audio engineer, mixer) and I lean on eachother by admitting our issues with being drawn to broken people. The music video for the title track to the new album "Traumantic" was just released last week: https://youtu.be/jTWJqBgcMiA——————————————————————————————Find Candy Ambulance At:——————————————————————————————WEBSITE: https://www.candyambulance.com/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/candyambulanceband/TWITTER: https://twitter.com/CandyAmbulanceYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/user/Nashphone/FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/CandyAmbulanceBand/SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4b7bSNDTXmM4MYajWVvPCu?si=ie2IKSbQRPSq5-rtiQ-otASOUNDCLOUD: https://soundcloud.com/candyambulance ——————————————————————————————Follow Us At——————————————————————————————INSTAGRAM: https://instagr.am/7th_HelixTWITTER: https://twitter.com/7th_HelixFACEBOOK: https://fb.me/7th.HelixSPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/51GTz2KSoNvkEMU4nJ0eOPITUNES: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/7th-helix/id1467003306WEBSITE: https://SeventhHelix.podbean.com
