Send us Fan MailYou know that feeling when you walk into a gym and instantly want to shrink, even before you touch a weight? We are naming that pressure out loud and we are offering a better option. I sit down with Sydney Geoghan, the founder of 518GymGirls, a women's fitness community in New York's Capital Region built for connection, confidence, and showing up exactly as you are.About Sydney:Sydney Geoghan (26) is the founder of 518GymGirls, a women's fitness community in New York's Capital Region built on connection, confidence, and empowerment. After starting her own fitness journey to feel stronger and more confident, Sydney recognized a lack of supportive, judgment-free spaces for women. In July 2025, she created 518GymGirls, which began as a small group chat on BFF (formerly Geneva) and has since grown into a thriving community.A Long Island native who moved to the 518 region to attend UAlbany during COVID, Sydney experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to build connections—something that ultimately inspired her to create a space where women of all fitness levels can come together, build friendships, and feel empowered.TakeawaysWomen should prioritize finding communities that foster support and inclusivity. Look for fitness groups that prioritize a non-judgmental atmosphere.Understand that everyone's fitness journey is unique, and it's okay to start wherever you are.Engage with others who share similar goals and struggles; it makes the journey more enjoyable.CONNECT WITH SYDNEYINSTAGRAMFACEBOOKSupport the showIf you like this episode, please be sure to subscribe everywhere you listen to podcasts!FOLLOW ME on INSTAGRAMCheck out the WEBSITEHelp support this podcast by buying me a cup of coffee. MBN was "On The Road" Friday, March 13th, for Michigan's Rosie the Riveter Day 2026. In this special Faces of Manufacturing episode, The 40 minute video highlights the experience of the 4th Annual Michigan Rosie the Riveter Day—an inspiring celebration of Michigan's manufacturing legacy and the women who helped shape it. Hosted by the Capital Area Manufacturing Council (CAMC), Cindy Kangas - Faces of Manfacturing's Co-Host leads the session along with Emcee on the day Sherry Jones. This year's event returned to the Capital Region International Airport. It brought together aerospace, agriculture, and industry in a powerful tribute to the original “Rosies”—including a new focus on “Rosies on the Farm.” The event honors the women whose work during World War II transformed the American workforce, while also recognizing today's leaders and innovators across Michigan's manufacturing sector. The program features a dynamic lineup of speakers, including Lansing Mayor Andy Schor, industry leaders, and workforce advocates, along with the presentation of Rosie Awards celebrating outstanding women in manufacturing, education, and community impact. Beyond the stage, the event offers a hands-on, multi-generational experience with interactive exhibits, robotics demonstrations, and historical tributes—from the Tuskegee Airmen to the “Doughnut Dollies.” It's designed to inspire the next generation while connecting families to Michigan's rich industrial heritage. This episode explores how events like Michigan Rosie Day play a critical role in strengthening the talent pipeline, encouraging women to pursue careers in STEM and the skilled trades, and ensuring that Michigan's manufacturing future remains strong, innovative, and inclusive. On April 9, BigTentUSA convened a timely conversation featuring Randy Freeman and Michael Asbury of Braver Angels NYC, the nation's largest cross-partisan volunteer movement working to bridge America's political divide. Moderated by Jess Piper, Executive Director of Blue Missouri, the trio explored how Americans can better navigate political differences. Drawing on lived experiences, Jess noted a shift in her rural Missouri community, where some previously loyal MAGA voters are beginning to question the Trump Administration as policies more directly affect their daily lives.Speakers shared practical techniques for engaging across divides, grounded in real-world examples of communities working through deep disagreement. A central theme was focusing on what individuals can control: their own mindset, how they listen, and how they communicate. Participants were encouraged to approach conversations with curiosity, while also recognizing when it's more productive to disengage from those unwilling to listen. The discussion emphasized that this work unfolds over time, positioning the Braver Angels approach as a long-term investment in rebuilding trust and strengthening civic dialogue.Check out BigTent's conversational talking points:https://bigtentusa.org/talking-points-2026/Learn more about Braver Angels:https://braverangels.org/ Learn more about Blue Missouri and explore Piper's newsletter “The View from Rural Missouri”: https://bluemissouri.org/https://jesspiper.substack.com/ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:Jess Piper is a mother to five and grandmother to three and lives on a small farm on the Missouri/Iowa border. What if the best real estate deals weren't across the country, but right in your own backyard? In this episode, we sit down with Allie Keib, founding principal of Keib Capital Property Group, who has quietly built a portfolio of 50+ rental units in the Saratoga Springs, New York area - without raising outside capital or using other people's money. After spending eight years in corporate financial services in New York City, Allie moved to the Capital Region to start her family and began acquiring and self-managing small multifamily properties locally. Over time, she doubled down on a strategy many investors overlook: growing deep in one market instead of chasing deals across the country. We dive into the advantages of investing locally, including how proximity creates better deal flow, stronger relationships, and tighter operational control. Allie also shares how networking played a pivotal role in her growth, eventually leading her to co-found the Capital Region Real Estate Investing Association (CRREIA)—which has quickly become the largest real estate investing network in the Capital District. This conversation is a powerful reminder that you don't need a massive team, outside investors, or a nationwide portfolio to build meaningful wealth in real estate, sometimes the best strategy is to dominate your own backyard and hold great assets for the long term.
