Tonight's Game 6 is do-or-die for the Edmonton Oilers, and on the latest episode of Oilersnation Radio, we break down exactly what needs to happen for them to extend the series. Edmonton's margin for error is gone, and it starts with tightening up defensively and staying out of the penalty box.We dive into whether the Oilers need even more from Connor McDavid. He's been producing, but in a game of this magnitude, Edmonton's captain has to dominate every shift — offensively and defensively. With Leon Draisaitl still quiet, the pressure on McDavid is massive. Then there's the Sergei Bobrovsky problem. The Florida netminder has been lights-out, but is there a formula to crack him? We look at where the Oilers' chances are coming from, and what needs to change to finally solve Bob.Of course, we also look at the odds. Is now the time to back the Oilers on the moneyline? The future of California's economy depends on Latino communities. This stark reality emerges vividly in our special town hall session recorded at the Cheech Collection for Chicano Art in Riverside, where experts gathered to discuss findings from "El Futuro es Latino," a groundbreaking research project from Chapman University. The numbers tell a compelling story: Latinos will represent 78% of new US workers over this decade. In California, they comprise nearly 40% of the population and half of residents under 18. Yet despite this demographic significance, California's Latinos face persistent gaps in income, home ownership, and education compared to their counterparts nationwide. Our first panel examines how Latinos form the backbone of California's "carbon economy" – disproportionately filling essential roles in construction, transportation, and manufacturing. These are precisely the industries most threatened by aggressive environmental policies, creating an economic vulnerability that policymakers rarely address. Meanwhile, the housing crisis hits Latino families particularly hard, with California ranking 41st nationwide in Latino homeownership, forcing many to leave coastal areas for more affordable regions like the Inland Empire. The conversation shifts dramatically when our second panel explores concrete solutions. We hear from housing developers creating manufactured home communities where prices remain under $250,000, small business experts supporting Latino entrepreneurs who create their own economic opportunities, and workforce development specialists connecting workers to meaningful career pathways rather than just jobs.Throughout both discussions, one theme emerges consistently: civic engagement remains the missing piece. Despite their growing numbers, Latinos remain underrepresented in voting and policy advocacy. As one panelist powerfully states, "Latinos don't need public policies written for them – we need to be writing them ourselves."Whether you're concerned about California's economic future, interested in practical solutions to housing affordability, or seeking to understand the untapped potential of America's fastest-growing demographic, this episode offers rare insights from those working directly at the intersection of policy and community impact.Support Our WorkThe Center for Demographics and Policy focuses on research and analysis of global, national, and regional demographic trends and explores policies that might produce favorable demographic results over time. For those of you who have never had the privilege of having a Palestinian friend, this memoir will give you one. Terry grew up in Ramalla, a famous city about 9 miles north of Jerusalem. Hers was a life filled with parents, grandparents, sisters, and friends. Terry was a tomboy. How could she leave for church on Sunday morning in her sparkling dress and arrive at church, two blocks away, covered with dust? Did it have something to do with soccet or maybe playing marbles or climbing trees? Hers was a wonderful life for ten years until 1967 when the Israeli army arrived and everything changed. She still remembers the seven days of bombardment with distress. Some of her personal stories will touch you. By the time Terry was 14 her parents decided she was entirely too outspoken and would sooner or later end up in trouble. They sent her to live with relatives in Livonia, Michigan. Terry discusses her adjustment to American society, her early steps getting into civic volunteerism, her role in resisting anti-Arab and anti-Muslim stereotyping, and finally her role as an advisor to top political leaders in the Detroit area. She finishes up with a discussion of how she climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro at the age of 65 to make a film on women's empowerment. The book is called "Keeping the Dream Alive. My Quest for Peace and Justice." The price is very modest, if you would like to own the book. Hint: You might want to turn up the volume. I was close to the microphone but Terry was in a chair, not so close.

The American dream is the most important of our national myths. It's the idea that, with hard work and determination, anyone in this country can achieve middle-class security, own a home, start a family, and provide the children they raise with a better life than they had. Is that still true? On the one hand, our economy is the envy of the world. We are the richest country, leading the pack when it comes to innovation. And more people choose to move here for economic opportunity than to any other nation. And yet, everywhere you look in this country, there is a growing sense of pessimism. A sense that you can work hard, play by the rules, even go to college, and still end up saddled with debt and unable to afford the basics, like a home. Americans were told that higher education would be their ticket to the good life. Now, there's more than $1.7 trillion dollars in student loan debt hanging over a generation. Americans were told that free trade would make everyone prosper. But try telling that to the 4.5 million people who lost their manufacturing jobs in the last 30 years. Perhaps all of this is why a July Wall Street Journal poll found that only 9 percent of Americans say they believe that financial security is a realistic goal. And only 8 percent believe that a comfortable retirement is possible for them. Now, do those numbers reflect reality? Or just negative vibes? Last week, we convened four expert debaters in Washington, D.C., to hash out the question: Is the American dream alive and well? Arguing that yes, the American dream is alive and well, is economist Tyler Cowen. Tyler is a professor of economics at George Mason University and faculty director of the Mercatus Center. He also writes the essential blog Marginal Revolution. Joining Tyler is Katherine Mangu-Ward, editor in chief of the libertarian Reason magazine and co-host of The Reason Roundtable podcast. Arguing that no, the American dream is not flourishing, is David Leonhardt, senior writer at The New York Times and the author of Ours Was the Shining Future: The Story of the American Dream. David has won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary. Joining David is Bhaskar Sunkara, the president of The Nation magazine and the founding editor of Jacobin. He is the author of The Socialist Manifesto: The Case for Radical Politics in an Era of Extreme Inequality. Before the debate, 71 percent of our audience said that yes, the American Dream is alive and well, and 29 percent voted no. At the end of the night, we polled them again—and you'll see for yourself which side won. This debate was made possible by the generosity of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression.
