Clare hurling manager Brian Lohan is hopeful to continue to give new players opportunities throughout the league campaign to bolster the overall strength of the panel. Kilkenny exacted a degree of revenge for All Ireland Semi Final and Allianz League Final defeats to the Banner last year, finishing the stronger to seal a two point win in Cusack park yesterday. Both Conor Leen and David McInerney were forced off the field early, adding to the growing injury list within the Clare squad. Lohan says resources are stretched at the moment, however, given the depth of the panel, confidence is high that other players will step up to the mantle.

It's claimed Michael Cusack "Would turn in his grave" over GAA plans to introduce a €5 charge for U-16s at national league games. Clare County Council has this week become the first local authority in Ireland to request that Croke Park scrap the proposals. On the 26th of January, Clare will begin the defence of their National Hurling League title when Kilkenny visit Cusack Park. It will be the first time ever for this competition however that U-16s will be charged to watch the sides in action. Their admission to Division 1A and 1B games will now cost €5 and must be purchased alongside an adult ticket. Whitegate Councillor Pat Burke believes its merely a money making exercise. The GAA announced the policy in December and says the new arrangement will assist with event control and health and safety protocols for fixtures that attract bigger attendances." The move came shortly after an incident in September where a 12-year-old was attacked by a large group at Wexford Park. However the additional charge has sparked anger in the local authority leading to a joint motion from Clarecastle Councillor Paul Murphy, Clarecastle GAA Vice Chairman Cllr Tommy Guilfoyle, Whitegate Cllr Pat Burke, Ennistymon GAA Chair Cllr Shane Talty and O'Callaghan's Mills Cllr Conor Ryan calling for it to be scrapped. Similar motions are expected to pass through all 31 local authorities nationwide this month, but the GAA will not be obligated to change anything. Councillor Paul Murphy told the Council Chamber that Michael Cusack "would turn in his grave" at the very notion of the charges.

It is once again time for THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR! The climactic month of the holiday season that encompasses that yuletide feeling and Angela has picked (most) of the month's selections once again and we kick it off with a rom-com starring the king of rom-coms for much of the 90s and early 2000s. In 2001 you could put out a random John Cusack movie and make $77 million. Oh, how the movie going scene has changed and Mr. Cusack has been through his own changes as well. This 2001 flick is left to the fates as a chance romantic, if ill-timed, encounter goes amazingly well but when it ends it's left to the universe to decide if Jonathan and Sara are meant to be together. It takes a bit but the universe comes around. We're talking the 2001 Christmas rom-com directed by Peter Chelsom called “SERENDIPITY” and Bob struggles a bit with that word. It also stars Kate Beckinsdale, Jeremy Piven, Molly Shannon and John Corbett. Do our hosts get swayed into some holiday charm? Are the hosts forever doomed to suffer under the weight of their “realness”? WTF is Louis Armstrong saying in that song? Do you remember that show “Northern Exposure”? "The essence of propaganda consists in winning people over to an idea so sincerely, so vitally, that in the end they succumb to it utterly and can never again escape from it," —Joseph GoebbelsIt was on a Sunday that the Nazi army marched into New York City and gathered at Madison Square Garden. They came in all skin colors, white and Black and Brown, and from all different backgrounds, Asian, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, atheists, young and old, rich and poor, Left and Right, gay and straight as American citizens who desperately wanted to taste freedom again, security again, a government that cared about them again, and to Make America Great Again. What they don't know is that they're Nazis. Barbra Streisand and Hillary Clinton have said as much, so isn't it time that they listened? How dare they gather, Hitler-like, at Madison Square Garden to worship at the altar of the fuhrer himself, Donald Trump. That's what the New Yorker says, what the New York Times says, and what John Cusack says.I know what you're thinking. John who? John Cusack. Remember him? Once a heartthrob of sorts back in the 80s? Yeah, that guy.We were all so in love with him. Every boyfriend we ever had was John Cusack in one form or another. But that was then. Things have changed now that fascism has arrived in America. So to protect us from it, Cusack didn't hold up a boom box, no. This time, he woke up in his penthouse, tossed around in his high thread count sheets, gazed upon the streets of Manhattan, and remembered Donald Trump was holding a historic rally at Madison Square Garden. He fumbled for his phone and spit out his testimony:Donald Trump is Hitler, and his supporters are Nazis. How do we know that? That's just what we're all supposed to believe. So far, Trump has done nothing to warrant such an accusation ah, but we don't really care about that. We care about the thing we police at all costs: speech. What Trump says IS fascism. Free speech is fascism. But if you need proof, let's say that Trump has said he will deport the 10 million migrants who flooded through America's weakened border under the Biden/Harris administration. This was after the Democrats spent four years declaring Trump's border policies were RACIST and FASCIST. So when Biden won, why wouldn't they come? It's funny that Americans are thinking about themselves at a time like this. I mean, they should be anti-fascists, putting their own needs aside. The definition of fascism might be all power to the state against the individual, but that's in ordinary times.Power to the state against the individual is how you stop fascism now. Because if free people choose the guy who says he's going to fix the border problem and yes, that might include some deportations — that means we are no longer able to staff our labor force and grow a stronger coalition in the swing states. So we dumped them into towns like Springfield, Ohio, and expect everyone who lives there to share our existential angst about racism. Forget about your kids in school, your social services, and your safety. All power to the state means you say nothing, you do nothing, you suck it up.You see, the anti-fascists are the ones who demand you drop all of your friendships if you vote for the fascists. It might sound confusing, but it's not. All you have to do is conform or else. You might have heard that “conform or else” is the very definition of fascism, but really, it's how you get rid of it. You pressure everyone you know to do what we tell you to do, think how we want you to think, speak how we want you to speak or we will DESTROY YOU. This is a public episode. This week, we're checking in to the heartbreak hotel and taking the express checkout to Hell as Spooktober continues with a minor forgotbuster based on a story by Stephen King. It's 2007's 1408, directed by Mikael Håfström, and starring John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Mary McCormack, Jasmine Jessica Anthony, Tony Shaloub, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Len Cariou. The movie is not nearly scary enough to really leave a lasting impression, but it's not bad either, as its Swedish director injects a good amount of visual flair into a one-location concept, and Cusack is more than capable of carrying the load in what is largely a one-man show. Plus: We've got a mixed bag of theatrical field reports, as our intrepid hosts have combined to see The Wild Robot and Megalopolis! If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our discussion, 1408 is currently streaming on Hollywood Suite north of the border at the time this episode was released. You can probably also find it at your local library. Other works discussed in this episode include the Netflix Fear Street trilogy, Who Invited Them?, Late Night With The Devil, V/H/S/2, V/H/S: Viral, Cloverfield, The Blair Witch Project, [·REC], Quarantine, Searching, Paranormal Activity, The Mist, Scream, Talk To Me, Night of the Living Dead, Resident Evil, Dawn of the Dead (2004), 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, Friday the 13th Part 2, The Babadook, Malignant, Barbarian, Terrifier, Star Trek (2009), Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Mr. McMahon, Morbius, Poltergeist, The Shining, Room 104, Planet Terror, Death Proof, Halloween (2007), The Devil's Rejects, and Black Sheep. We'll be back next week as Spooktober continues with a well-regarded horror classic from one of the original masters of the genre, as we finally catch up with Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, currently streaming in Canada on Netflix at the time of publication. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!
The anniversary of the birthday of one of Clare's most famous sons will be commemorated this weekend. The 5th annual Michael Cusack Day will take place at the Michael Cusack Heritage Centre on Sunday at 1pm. The event will celebrate the contributions made by the founding member of the GAA. On the day there will be Hurley making, singing from pupils of Carron National School where Cusack attended and the presentation of a commemorative Michael Cusack Jersey. Centre manager, Tim Madden, says its vital to remember Cusack's achievement, that shapes current Irish society today.
In this podcast episode, we delve into the intriguing parallels and differences between two John Cusack films: "Grosse Pointe Blank" (1997) and "War, Inc." (2008). Both films feature Cusack as a hitman embroiled in personal and professional crises, blending dark comedy with action and elements of romance. We explore how "Grosse Pointe Blank" presents a hitman returning to his high school reunion, grappling with past relationships and moral dilemmas in a suburban setting, while "War, Inc." portrays a more cynical view of a hitman operating in a corporate-run war zone, satirizing political and corporate greed. Join us as we dissect how each film addresses themes of identity and morality, compare their humor and narrative styles, and discuss their cultural impacts and critical receptions. This episode offers a deep dive into how similar premises are treated in markedly different ways in two distinct cinematic periods.
1408 - "A Fragmented Loop of Unease & Despair"We continue our Stephen King Birthday Party with one of his most iconic Short Stories - 1408 (2007). A story that started off as a writing exercise that has gone on to be so much more! A cynical writer (John Cusack) is lured into the clutches of one very evil hotel room. We love seeing Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson paired up in Stephan King adaptations -like this film and CELL (2016)!We hope you enjoy this fresh episode - if you dare!!Support the show
Dr. Neil Chesterton, a New Zealand vet who has been investigating risk factors for lameness since the 1980s, and Ger Cusack, practicing veterinary surgeon with Comeragh Veterinary in Waterford, and who is well known for his work on prevention and control of lameness, join Stuart Childs on this week's Dairy Edge podcast. Ger first explains the different levels of lameness while Neil explains the main issues on New Zealand farms and how they are quite similar to those we face here in Ireland. They go on to discuss the importance of patience when moving stock and allowing the natural flow of cows into and out of the collecting yard and milking parlour and how this influences the level of lameness in herds. They also discuss the importance of managing farm roadways to maintain the surfaces in optimum condition to encourage cows to want to walk on it. Neil is a strong advocate of a soft transition from the main road surface to the concrete of the collecting yard and that this should be used for 100-400 metres from the parlour yard entrance depending on the herd size to again encourage cows to walk on the surface but also to reduce the number of sole injuries associated with stones coming from the main surface to the concrete of the collecting yard. Neil and Ger finish up by highlighting key things farmers can do to minimise lameness on their farms. More info is available on Neil Chesterton's website at https://www.lamecow.co.nz/index.html And from the Animal Health Ireland article by Ger Cusack at: https://animalhealthireland.ie/assets/uploads/2024/08/AHI_Monthly_Newsletter_August_2024_FINAL.pdf?dl=1 The Dairy Edge is a co-production with LastCastMedia.com
fWotD Episode 2667: John F. Kennedy document hoax Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Friday, 23 August 2024 is John F. Kennedy document hoax.In 1993, Lawrence X. Cusack III forged 350 documents from, or relating to, John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States. Some of the forged documents supposedly showed that Kennedy had dealings with organized crime (through Sam Giancana of the Chicago Outfit), tax evasion, bribery of FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, payment of hush money to actress Marilyn Monroe for being Kennedy's lover, and a secret first marriage.Cusack was the son of Lawrence X. Cusack Jr., the New York–based founder of the law firm Cusack & Stiles. Cusack Jr. was appointed as a guardian of the estate of Gladys Pearl Baker, Monroe's mother, in the 1970s. Cusack was employed in his father's firm from the late 1980s. He claimed that his father advised Kennedy on numerous sensitive and personal matters and that he found the papers in the archives of Cusack & Stiles.Cusack sold the papers through memorabilia dealers for between six and seven million dollars. One of the collectors involved suggested showing them to the investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, who was in the process of writing The Dark Side of Camelot (1997), a history of the Kennedy presidency and his assassination. Hersh began including information about the documents in his book and proposed a documentary to be released at the same time. It was during the checks of the documents by the NBC television network and then by ABC News in preparing the documentary that flaws in the forgeries led to their discovery. These included the use of a ZIP Code in a document signed in 1961 (the ZIP Code was introduced in 1963), and the use of a Prestige Pica font typeball that had not been invented at the time the document was signed. Other mistakes included the use of "lift-off" type to adjust a spelling error in Kennedy's name and where a written signature had removed a tiny part of the type underneath it, which had been made by using a modern plastic typewriter ribbon; these were not available in the early 1960s.The forgeries were uncovered in mid-1997, while Hersh was still writing The Dark Side of Camelot, and he removed a chapter and some additional material that had been based on the Cusack documents. In September 1997, ABC confronted Cusack with the discovery of the fraud, but Cusack denied the accusations. Cusack was arrested and tried on thirteen charges of mail and wire fraud; he was found guilty on all charges and was sentenced in 1999 to nine years and seven months imprisonment; he was also ordered to return the money to the people who had purchased the documents from him. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:13 UTC on Friday, 23 August 2024.For the full current version of the article, see John F. If Michael Bay movies are orange juice, "Con Air" is orange-juice concentrate—loaded with stars, explosions and plot holes. What else would you expect from Shat The Movies commissioner extraordinaire Frank F? Simon West's directorial debut had the Shat Crew scratching their heads. The geography makes no sense. The crime makes no sense. The courts make no sense. Even prison had Dick and Gene confounded. But there was no mystery to the entertainment factor of this summer blockbuster. Cartoon bad guys, over-the-top action sequences and some of 1997's hottest actors make "Con Air" a standout movie ... even if it isn't a particularly good one. With it being Olympics season, what better time than talk with Chef/Owner Richard Cusack at 30:35 of show to chat about June BYOB in Collingswood, NJ an upscale French restaurant owned and operated by husband and wife, Richard and Christina Cusack, a certified sommelier. It features traditional French cuisine with some modern influences, and includes tableside presentations. The Cusack's are also Chef/Owners of Café le Jardin in Audubon, NJ. This restaurant is known for its charming and inviting atmosphere along with delicious food here as well. This café offers a blend of traditional and contemporary elements, creating a cozy space for patrons to relax and enjoy a variety of food and beverages. With a warm, welcoming vibe with a touch of elegance. It's designed to be a comfortable spot for both casual hangouts and more intimate gatherings that are family and budget friendly. Staying French themed, we chatted with Isabelle Noblanc at 01:09:15 of the show. Isabelle is Co-Owner of Mamie Colette in Newtown, PA an artisan bakery specializing in French viennoiserie. They prioritize quality and health. Their products are made from scratch, fresh every day and do not contain added preservatives. Their flour is non-GMO, never bleached and never bromated. Their mission is to bring happiness to our customers and team members, and serve the community, while offering a superior experience with quality products, and choice. Artisan viennoiserie bakers place a strong emphasis on using high-quality ingredients, such as butter, flour, and yeast, and on following traditional techniques for laminating the dough, shaping the croissants, and baking them to perfection. The goal is to produce croissants that are flaky, buttery, and full of flavor, with a crispy exterior and a soft, tender interior. She is also Co-Owner of their sister bakery, L'Annexe de Mamie Colette in Titusville, NJ that has bread, French pastries (except for croissants) and Breton crepes. Last, but certainly not least at 01:48:02 in the episode, we had a little French - New Orleans - Vietnamese fusion twist talking to Nini Nguyen about the soon to be released cookbook ‘Dac Biet: An Extra-Special Vietnamese Cookbook' available to order pre-sale now and on store shelves August 27th from Knopf Publishing. Nini is a New Orleans–based chef and cooking instructor. After starting her career in some of the country's most innovative kitchens, such as Coquette in New Orleans and Eleven Madison Park in New York, she competed in season 16 of Top Chef, as well as Top Chef: All-Stars, becoming a fan favorite. At the beginning of the pandemic, she leaned into her passion for teaching, originally honed at Cook Space in Brooklyn, New York, and built her Cooking with Nini virtual classes into a robust business. The classes, which she teaches several times per week, are wildly popular. The cookbook that will soon be available is a collection of contemporary, extra-special Vietnamese recipes, from beloved classics like Hanoi-Style Vermicelli with Grilled Pork and three variations of phở, to dishes with a New Orleans twist, like Southeast Asian Jambalaya and Sticky Fried Shrimp Bánh Mì. It includes one hundred delicious and vibrant recipes that celebrate the essential flavors of Vietnam—salty, sour, bitter, spicy, and sweet—and the bright and perfectly balanced dishes they create. The integration of BW Converting's Baldwin Color Control System (CCS) with System Brunner's Instrument Flight color evaluation software has evolved in step with the changing demands of commercial web offset printers for more than two decades. The latest upgrade, making its debut this week at DRUPA in Düsseldorf, Germany, not only raises the bar on accuracy, speed and sustainability; it also makes the process fun and simple for the operator. In this episode of “Unlocking Potential,” John Cusack, Product Line Manager for Baldwin, a brand of BW Converting, and Daniel Pfeiffer, Managing Director of System Brunner, reflect on their partnership's origins, which began at DRUPA in 2000. Since then, their collaboration has led to over 600 system installations worldwide.Cusack outlines how Baldwin's latest generation CCS, with fully spectral measurement capability, offers existing and potential customers the chance to upgrade from non-spectral devices, enhancing measurement accuracy and print quality."The synergy between Baldwin and System Brunner has allowed us to innovate faster and more effectively, providing our customers with the latest advancements in color control technology," Cusack emphasizes.Pfeiffer elaborates on the improvements in System Brunner's Instrument Flight, designed for higher efficiency and user-friendliness. The system's advanced technology ensures better quality through consistent color management from pre-press to print, utilizing machine learning to mimic human perception."Our new system not only improves quality through advanced technology and machine learning but also significantly reduces setup time and waste, contributing to a greener footprint," he explains. The conversation delves into the practical benefits of these innovations, such as reducing operator workload and stress, thus addressing high turnover rates in the industry and a short supply of trained labor. The automated system allows operators to focus on other tasks, improving overall efficiency. The color-control pros also stress the economic and environmental advantages of their solutions. By minimizing material usage, energy consumption, and waste, their systems support sustainable practices while enhancing business efficiency, making it easier for companies to maintain high-quality output with fewer resources.Drupa 2024 participants are encouraged to stop by Baldwin's booth in Hall 16, Stand D20, to experience how Baldwin and System Brunner's latest advancements can transform their printing operations. To learn more, contact Craig Black, Vice President of Sales, Americas, at craig.black@bwconverting.com or Oliver Jentschke, VP of Sales, Europe at oliver.jentschke@bwconverting.com.

As the needle drops on another episode of Music in My Shoes, we're whisked away to a time when movie scenes and their soundtracks became inseparable in our minds. I fondly recall the arresting notes of The Police's "Roxanne" echoing through "48 Hrs.," and who could forget John Cusack serenading us outside a window with Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" in "Say Anything"? It's a walk down the memory lane, peppered with personal anecdotes that'll have you grinning, including the charming mix-up with Gabriel's song approval and Jimmy's own encounters of being mistaken for Cusack. His story is a testament to the magnetic pull of music, highlighting the raw energy of live performances and the influences that drive a musician's passion. From the complexities of mastering his instrument to the profound effect of playing alongside his idols, Cannon's tale is a harmonic blend of dedication and dream-chasing that resonates with anyone who's felt the call of the stage. Finally, Cannon and I sink into the grooves of his favorite albums that have sculpted his sonic landscape. With tales wrapped around each record, from Steve Earle's "Transcendental Blues" to the live ecstasy of the Grateful Dead's "Without a Net," we unpack the profound impact these albums have had on our lives. And as the show closes, we invite you to connect with us, sharing your own musical journeys and the tunes that have soundtracked your most memorable moments. Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 508 of the Chasing Tone PodcastIt's podcast day, and Brian has avoided being sucked into a funnel cloud, so we start the episode of with an extra dose of frivolity and nonsensical mutterings. There is camping talk and weather talk and Richard campaigns for moderate weather conditions. Wampler Pedals made a social media post involving Brian's take on the infamous Rockman and the guys chat about how it was created. There were some great April fool's gags this year and the guys talk about some of their favorites and Blake tells us all about the one he was involved in for Gun Street Wiring. Richard makes an apology. There was a question submitted to the guys about buffers and the guys go deep into the weeds with it, the importance of impedance, and other general nerd topics. Brian redefines important technical terms.Richard is a little nervous about an upcoming band rehearsal so distracts himself by talking about his pedalboard and the choices he made. Somehow this ends up back at a chat about the Rockman sound again and Brian makes musical impersonations. Blake shows Brian some vintage Bucket Brigade chips and he gets very excited. There's been some controversy with some deepfaking of guitar impresario and UFO enthusiast Rob Chapman and the guys debate it.Mullets aplenty, Cusack's jacks, Squelch, Harley Benton, Agnes Obel, The Specials ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! Thanks to all our supporters - you are awesome! We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://modyourownpedal.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

Surprise! Since next week marks the anniversary of when I started this podcast, I'm dropping this episode a few days early as a thank you for your support & listenership over the years. (Note: I haven't decided how to celebrate the date yet, but I think a good start would be not forgetting it like I usually do, haha.) Season 5 has kicked things off in a wonderfully nostalgic mode so far with several installments I've recorded about films of the '80s & '90s, which I'm hoping casts the same sort of warm, glowy, Gen X memory-filled spell on you that it did on me as I researched & prepped for these episodes. And who better to focus on for a look back at this era than John Cusack whose onscreen alter-ego so many of us grew up alongside? Returning to the podcast to investigate is filmmaker & author Duncan Birmingham, who started revisiting Cusack's films towards the end of '23 & pitched this terrific idea to zero in on the Quintessential Cusack era from SAY ANYTHING...(1989) to HIGH FIDELITY (2000). Citing multiple other films along the way, in this appreciative, analytical look back, we focus on his work in three other tremendous films including THE GRIFTERS, GROSSE POINTE BLANK, & BEING JOHN MALKOVICH. Giving plenty of love to his outstanding collaborators & including stories from our own lives & the way our relationships with these characters & films change with age, this is just the thing to queue up & maybe blast from your boombox in some sort of grand romantic declaration as you head into your weekend.Duncan's Bio: A writer and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, today's guest Duncan Birmingham was an executive producer and screenwriter for IFC's MARON and also served as a co-executive producer and writer on the Starz series BLUNT TALK. Additionally, Duncan's short films have premiered at festivals like Sundance and AFI, and his screenplay SWINGLES, which Paramount purchased, was also on The Black List. Recently, his lively, irreverent short-story collection THE CULT IN MY GARAGE was published by Maudlin House in 2021, & in '22, he wrapped & released his excellent first feature-length film as a writer-director called WHO INVITED THEM.Originally Posted on Patreon (2/23/24) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/99081183
