Welcome to Animateys, a podcast hosted by two people (friends) who insist on taking beloved childhood cartoons and mercilessly evaluating them (i.e. over-co…
After our winter hibernation, we arise to... yell about streamers? In this return episode, we discuss Cartoon Hangover's Bravest Warriors (created by Pendleton Ward) with a longer intro discussing adult animation and the relationship animation has to streamers and the internet. We hope you enjoy!
Hello all and welcome to season SIX of the Animateys podcast! We're calling this season "How To Adult - An Unadulterated View Of Adults Adulting While Viewing Adult Animation" or "Adult Animation" for a TLDR. Our show of choice is a nice, soft start with Bee and Puppycat, a show with a cult following and a nice connection to our other Pendalton Ward lineage classics like Adventure Time.
Growing up is hard. Making a show about the Rugrats growing up compelling appears to have been even harder. On this Season Finale episode of Animateys, we dig in to discover that some things really do change, and not always for the better, when you're All Grown Up.
BUSTED! We're back from summer break with a very summer show: Rocket Power! Put on your pads, get out your tiny shirts, big pants, crimped hair and a massive sense of abandon as we time travel back to the late 90's and its signature style.
In an Animateys first, we sit down for the 2nd time to discuss a show that, on first pass almost got a shallow treatment from us, but on second pass was so much more than we remembered. As Told By Ginger will certainly be a different take on the shows we tend to see from Nickelodeon. Note, this episode is longer than our typical ones.
Animateys is on the trail of the illusive "Wild Thornberry" species. We have a smashing episode for you. For example, did you know that the adult caretakers of the Thornberry species almost entirely ignore their young? Or that they adopt all sorts of outsiders with no consideration of the consequences? Learn this and more on today's episode. Blalarahahgh!
Operation A.N.I.M.A.T.E.Y.S.: Animation Nerds Intermittently Muse About Toons Excitedly Yet Sensually. This time we discuss Codename: Kids Next Door. However, do be warned, like any good spy movie or show, we take many twists and turns away from the show to discuss other clandestine topics.
Call us, beep us, if you wanna reach us! We're back with Kim Possible, an early 2000's romp that asks the question: What if the average high school girl was anything but average?
We're going ghost this time on Animateys as we discuss Danny Phantom just in time for the spooky season (at least when we recorded!). Enjoy a ghostly romp around Amity Park as we discuss this gem of the mid 00's.
Sassy! This time, we dig into a weirdly popular cartoon cartoon from the late 90's - Johnny Bravo. He's an Elvis - James Dean milkshake that just doesn't quite taste right in this, the year of our Lord 2023. So join us as we dish about this one.
The good folks on our Patreon continue to support us and we in turn want to bring you our next Extra episode! Our listeners will receive this 2 weeks earlier if they're patreon subscribers. Consider supporting us! Princess Mononoke is perhaps one of Miyazaki's greatest films, and we discuss it as adults, even though some of us will have seen it as children. It holds up and is still just as beautiful and insightful as ever!
Gotta get back, back to podcasts! Paige and Chris return after our unscheduled break to deliver some contemplative sword-swinging commentary about this absolute early 00's masterpiece that answers the question, "How do we show gratuitous violence but get around the censors?! ROBOTS!"
Odd-podcast, fairly odd podcast! We wish that you'll have a great time listening to this new episode of Animateys where we cover the wonderful Fairly OddParents. Just be careful what you wish for...
Back on track this week with Rocko's Modern Life! We take a loot at this Gen-X gem and discuss how it really, really doesn't seem like Rocko's was made for children.
F is for friends who podcast together, U is for you and me, N is for any anywhere and anytime at all down here in the deep blue sea! Spongebob changed television, and we're here to find out just how this go-lucky sponge hits as an adult.
Hello heroes! We're here today to finish out our current season on post-renaissance shows with Kid Cosmic on Netflix. It's a great show, and we hope you like today's episode.
This week we dig into the show Infinity Train. Please seat yourselves "conduct" a thorough review of this more contemporary show on childhood trauma, in a show that is increasingly bold to the point that we go "Is this really a children's show anymore?"
We've got an extra special episode, out early, for our supporters! We take on Disney's classic - The Hunchback of Notre Dame. How did this happen? Is this movie really for children?
Coco co co co co coco! Coco coco COCO! Anyway, here is our episode on the middle 00's classic, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends!
For the honor of increadibly soft magical teens! We return this week with our discussion on our first non-broadcast TV property, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power from Netflix. Following in the wake of the likes of Steven Universe, how does She-Ra stack up? Come and find out!
Zoinks! Like, man, we're back with another spooky episode to unmask. But this time, it's no evil old man out for cash, but a surprisingly funny, deep and sci-fi/horror loving series from the 2010s. A new take on an old classic gets a hard look. No scooby snacks here, though.
Here were are in the trauma, and it's weird. This episode, we finish with the last of our season on the original "cartoon renaissance" or "gold era" of the last 00's and and '10s, and ends with Steven Universe: Future. We hope that this has been an enjoyable stretch!
Hello all! This is our episode on Steven Universe: The Movie. This track will be available for two weeks for our Patreon subs and will then go live for public audiencies.
Here we (almost) are in the future, and everything's absolved once your family trauma is dealt with..... right?! Empires are just bad feelz, right? Our last look at O.G. Steven Universe, seasons 4 and 5, is here!
Your mom isn't as cool as you are, Steven. Seasons 2 and 3 really do a lot of work. New gems, new threats, new trauma, new songs, and more Pearl being Pearl.
All I want to do is see you turn into a giant woman. Steven Universe season 1 begins the end of our big 3 shows of the golden era!
Spooky monsters and sibling hijinks about in this episode of Animateys! We're investigating the mysterious success of this Disney show and discuss its place in our Cartoon Renaissance period. Please Dipper in and Mable you will have a listen!
As sad as it is, we've reached the end of our journey with Adventure Time. Come along with us, through the last (long) episode for this amazing and groundbreaking show. We promise the extra time is worth it!
Hop on board mateys for this newest episode! We're talking about seasons 7 and 8 of Adventure Time in our penultimate Adventure Time episode!
This week we go through seasons 5 - 6 of Adventure Time!
We continue our journey through Ooo with Adventure Time, seasons 2 - 4.
Animateys time, come on grab your friends, we're going to very distant lands, with Chris the prof and Paige the human, the fun will never end it's Animateys time! The first episode in our multi-episode series on Adventure Time, what it's done for us and the medium as a whole. We're setting up the show and talking a bit about the characters and the first two seasons.
Hm, Hm Hm. OOOOOOOOOOO. Everyone's been there: early to mid twenties, directionless, working a menial job, and attacked by giant floating heads and pie demons. Regular Show is the first show in our "Cartoon Renaissance" lineup, and what a fun first entry it is!
This episode marks the begining of SEASON 3! It's amazing we made it this far and we would like to thank everyone who helped and continues to help support us! This season will focus in on the period we're calling the "Holy Modern Cartoon Renaissance". Before we can arrive there, however, we must see how we are to get there. This show is the incubator for so many shows that followed, and we wanted to showcase it. In addition, we discuss a timeline for each of our "Big 4" networks form their start as animation hubs to present day, as well as when our "Renaissance" reached each network (if it reached there at all). We hope you enjoy this humble beginning and we are so very excited to bring you another season of animation!
Ju-lee, do the last thing! Our final romp through Korra includes bisexuality, fascism, healing, PTSD, and lots of giant robots (which Shinji won't get in).
"Release your earthly tethers, enter the void, empty, and become wind."
Spirits, civil war, movies, and bad relationships - this season has it all! We unpack a lot of material this week on a longer-than-usual episode. JULEE, DO THE THING!
We begin the end of Season 2 with a continuation of the Avatar phenomenon: Legend of Korra! We're going to "bend" the rules a bit and do an episode per season. We hope we have the right "elements" featured in this episode. I promise that's the last pun, I'm "naga"-nna put anymore in this description!
A followup to our Sailor Moon episode, this week we focus on a modern take of the magical girl genre of anime: Madoka Magica! In a show which Nietzsche would fawn over like a little girl, the universe is meaningless, good things are really bad, and perhaps bad things aren't so bad? Girls in bouncy outfits with magic powers shouldn't make us think this much about the nature of our world!
Aahhhhhhhhhhhh! We're back with a show that will probably make you go "oh yea, I remember that one". We return to early Nickelodeon with the gross, gag-filled show that is Aaahh!!! Real Monsters. We review its inception, aesthetic and some different ideas present throughout. This weeks show is a bit shorter and slightly more tangential, but we hope you like it!
Fall is upon us, so we are getting in the spirit with some spooky fun! Over the Garden Wall is a beautiful miniseries that ran on Cartoon Network in 2014. We hope you love it as much as we did.
A continuation of last week's episode about Sailor Moon!
In the name of the moon we will punish you! We begin our occasional forays into anime with anime that 90's kids would have seen on TV. One of our earliest introductions of anime was the one and only Sailor Moon. This week is mostly an introduction to some issues in anime, the magical girl genre, and a plot rundown of Sailor Moon. Next week we will be discussing themes and other more content-related issues as opposed to plot or characters.
We bare all our feelings about We Bare Bears this week on Animateys. This is episode 2 of 2 episodes about this amazingly wholesome and bright show in which 3 anthropomorphized bears trounce around the Bay Area having fun and confront Korean Spas, homelessness, and the horrors of late stage capitalism. This week's episode deals more with themes, messages, critiques in the show, character interactions and themes, and the way in which the show is a mirror of modern life, good and bad. We hope this episode isn't too over-bear-ing

This week we're coming in hot with Season 3 of Avatar the Last Airbender! We wrap up some very fulfilling story and character arcs, all while discussing the very complex emotions and situations the last season creates for the viewer.
We continue this week with Book 2 of Avatar the Last Airbender! Always remember: there is no war in Ba Sing Se.
Avatar the Last Airbender is a show that, for many, represents a clear example of masterful Western animation. We begin season 2 with the heavy-hitter, a fan favorite and a show jam-packed with a great story, characters, and also political, cultural, psychological, etc, themes. Join us and please enjoy!
Episode 18: Jackie Chan Adventures by AniMateys Podcast
We continue our discussion of batman, discussing it's new fancy clothing and some very emotional content packed deep in the later episodes of the show. Enjoy!
