I attended Sophia's psychedelic psundsay psermon recently, on an actual Sunday in an actual church, in Asheville, NC. She may be an anthropologist, but she is no anthro-apologist, for this talk regarded “inter-species dialogues & plant consciousness.” & so we met up later that week to talk tardigrades, Jericho roses & the death & resurrection of words. To ponder prayer, spin recursive meme-o-spheres, encounter scary English angels in the polyglot-o-sphere & stand in “Uhhh” before the “awefullsome” in the realm of the sphere-its. We exchanged notes about what she calls “stacked spirit science” & we honored the ANTcestors with fancy-antsy words like “stigmergy” & “formication”. Even though all things that look/sound similar are connected, we managed to tell Huni Kuin from Loony Toons & Shipibo-Conibo from Evil-Knievel. We traced the riverine roots of the milk-mustached Drunk Monkey People's circuitous designs back to the anaconda choirs of their creation myth (scales for days). We sat, as if in ceremony, w the riddle of sickness & the serpent's place in amazonian&Asclepius' lore. Snake oil or serpent medicine? We weighed the value of dream-tending vs. analysis & as we wondered how to concoct a cure for loneliness I remembered the psycho-magical Dream Theatre I used to facilitate, where we would often transcend Joseph Conrad's maxim “we live as we dream—alone.” &just as Sophia & I considered questions that refuse to be answered & answers that refuse to be questioned, our pod-cast spell was interrupted by a phone-call from our friend comedian Shane Mauss. Sophia co-wrote the book When Plants Dream w Daniel Pinchbeck & has a bouncing baby blog on substack called NUMA. Take a drink every time one of us says the word "hole" in this podcast episode (D-don't do that. You'll die.) Today we see that with great power comes weird nail-based fighting techniques. Johnny's Stand is possibly turning into a Loony Toons character. We learn that Gyro and Johnny are the hardiest twinks. Courtney cannot understand how the rules of Sugar Mountain work to save his life. And Eliz definitely knows what sounding is. -- JoJo's Bizarre Explainer JoJo's Bizarre Adventure! We get into why this film just doesn't hit the same as the first, what we would have maybe done differently and why the Loony Toons should have been the main focus of the film.

The sound is horrid in this one. Sorry. However, the Loony Toons get horny. Jonathan bashes the fash and gets freaky. Willem Dafoe gets some sexy bicycle shorts.

The boys are coming in tired after their first Spoop Month, and they're more than ready to just sit back and engorge themselves on some candy, so they're taking the easy way out and talking about some personal favorites: It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown! and Scooby Doo on Zombie Island. They also have some fun talking about the early age of animation, some Loony Toons, some Tom and Jerry, and then they talk about some Animated Halloween Classics.

Today, the team start off by answer the hypothetical question - which Playset would be the most exciting to see explode!? Then we take a sharp turn into how to go about discovering a new toy line! Just how deep is the Loony Toons rabbit hole? This question actually perfectly leads into our next topic which is all about Toy Checklists! We run through the many different versions around the room and speak at length about digital vs hard copy; can't we just have both? Unofficial vs official endorsement versions and if endorsed by the parent company do we then need a lawyer for said checklist!? If we where to create a checklist guide - what would we want - and what amazing idea has Frank got for it? On the digital front, what websites are out there and what apps are available? Best place for IDing toys and items? It's all covered in this episode; as we all know that ~ "knowing is half the battle". Support the show.
This week we run back the 1988 classic film, Who Framed Roger Rabbit! Important areas are explored such as saving Jessica Rabbit from being slut shamed and who would play her in real life. In true Roger Rabbit fashion things go off the rails as we discuss the long term environmental impacts of "the dip" on toontown, give out unsolicited parenting advice, and write a Batman V. Mark 9:1-13 In the classic 90's movie Space Jam, when the Loony Toons are down at halftime of the basketball game, Bugs hands the team "Michael's Secret Stuff," (in reality water) which gives them the power to come back and win the game. In the challenges and trials we face in life, What "Secret Stuff" does God give us to come back?
This week we celebrate the work of James West, an African-American inventor, who has over 200 patents, including the condenser technology found in over 85% of microphones that are still being sold. This week in the news: Google ends AI ethics council a week after it was formed, McDonald's AI changes menu based on your car license plate, Oregon votes for permanent Daylight Saving(s) Time, 51 facts you thought were correct are wrong, and the Loony Toons-esque ways the CIA tried to get rid of Fidel Castro in the 60s. Enjoy!
This week we begin our foray into the WB network's animated series with the Animaniacs, a sketch comedy cartoon in the vein of Loony Toons.
Guest Judge Bill from Your New Favorite Movie returns, and this time, the boys are ready for him. Playing to his heart, they attempt to decide what Air Jordan is best at. Nick attempts to slam dunk as he argues for basketball. Ryan's on deck on behalf of baseball. And Mike takes a slice for golf. Listen in as they talk about Rocky Horror Picture Show, sociopaths, Tiger Woods, holes in one, Loony Toons, the seven seals of the apocalypse, kneeling, and Scottie Pippen doing a nazi salute. Does Ryan ever get turned on by Lola the Bunny? Does Nick ever pay attention to any conversation? Does Mike actually understand the plot of Space Jam? And does Bill aggressively dance up on some bros in a coffee shop? Do the 23-skidoo to What is Michael Jordan's Best Sport?
Pepe Le Pew, Bugs Bunny, and Wile E. Coyote are among the Loony Toons characters whose mental health issues and identities we dissect in the first episode of Season 3 of Mental Illness in Pop Culture. Other cartoon characters mentioned: Foghorn Leghorn, Speedy and Slow Poke Gonzalez, Sylvester, Tweety Bird, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, and Penelope Pussycat. We also contrast Warner Bros with Disney and briefly analyze Rick and Morty. All of the above are informed by guest host, counselor-in-training, and cartoon aficionado Chris Gonzales.
