Two things that bother me, is when people ask what my dream job is, and what is my "why." Just don't ask, because I am not playing that game with you. If you can't figure that out, then you may have a bigger problem than me. I will rebel against this question, by eating pineapple on pizza, and patiently waiting for the revolution. It's time for something big in this world, and I may be just too tired to care about it.
In this episode, I sit down with Emotional Intelligence expert Jess Cameron to explore a skill many of us were never taught - how to understand and regulate our emotions. Most of us were taught how to achieve, perform and push through discomfort. But very few of us were taught emotional awareness, emotional regulation or how to communicate what we're actually feeling. Jess breaks down what emotional intelligence really means in practical terms. It's not about being overly emotional or “soft.” It's about self-awareness, nervous system regulation, and developing the ability to respond intentionally instead of reacting from old patterns. We also explore intuition - that quiet inner voice that often gets drowned out by mental noise, stress and overthinking. Jess shares a pivotal year in her life where she chose to follow her intuition in every decision, even when it defied logic. That experiment reshaped her career and became the foundation of her work as a mindset and emotional intelligence coach. This conversation goes deep into modern relationship dynamics, including masculine and feminine energy, emotional suppression in men and the desire for emotional depth in women. We discuss how emotional safety impacts intimacy, communication and connection - and why emotional regulation is essential for healthy relationships, effective leadership and personal growth.Jess shares practical insights on: • EQ vs IQ • How to regulate emotions in high-pressure situations • The role of intuition in decision making • Masculine and feminine dynamics in modern relationships • Parenting with emotional awareness • Why anger is not bad - but mismanaged anger isAt its core, this episode is about building emotional resilience and self-trust. Because you cannot regulate what you refuse to acknowledge. And when you develop the skill of emotional regulation, everything shifts - your leadership, your relationships, your confidence and your sense of self.If you want to strengthen your emotional intelligence, build better relationships, and respond with clarity instead of reacting from habit, this conversation will meet you exactly where you are.Inside this podcast:- Why emotional intelligence is more than a soft skill- How intuition gets drowned out by mental noise- Why you cannot regulate emotions you avoid- The tension between masculinity, femininity and emotional depth- How awareness allows you to respond instead of reactConnect with Jess:Instagram → https://bit.ly/3ZGbKMv Website → jesscameron.com Connect with Steve:Instagram → https://bit.ly/3KARQhR LinkedIn → https://bit.ly/48sw8Vj Episode Highlights00:00:00 - Episode Trailer00:02:30 - Emotional intelligence beyond buzzwords00:05:00 - Observing thoughts and separating identity from mind00:07:00 - Fine tuning intuition like a radio frequency00:10:00 - Listen to the whisper or face the sledgehammer00:12:00 - The career defining moment of saying no00:15:00 - Following intuition despite fear00:18:00 - IQ versus EQ and the limits of logic00:20:00 - Judging intentions versus judging actions00:24:00 - Emotional intelligence in conflict00:28:00 - Masculine and feminine energy explained00:32:00 - Why emotions were labeled as weakness00:35:00 - Regulation versus suppression00:38:00 - Invalidation disguised as positivity00:41:00 - How men shut down in relationships00:45:00 - Creating safe emotional space00:49:00 - Awareness as the key to personal growthABOUT THE PODCAST SHOWThe Noise of Life is a podcast that shares real stories, raw truths, and remarkable growth. We've Been Calling This Normal | Dr. Gabor Maté on Trauma, Stress, and Modern Life What if many of the pressures we accept as ordinary life are actually conditions the human nervous system experiences as chronic threat? Episode Description For generations, we have normalized stress, emotional suppression, relentless productivity, and disconnection from our own needs, treating them as the price of success. Dr. Gabor Maté argues that what we call normal in modern society often reflects patterns of adaptation to environments our biology was never designed to navigate. . But what if trauma is not primarily psychological at all? What if it is biological? Embedded. Lived through the nervous system long after the event is over. . In this profound and deeply human conversation, Dov Baron sits down with Dr. Gabor Maté to challenge one of the most entrenched assumptions in modern culture. That suffering is a personal failure rather than a physiological imprint of lived experience. . Together, they explore how addiction, anxiety, chronic illness, perfectionism, and even high achievement can emerge from the same root. Not moral weakness. Not a lack of discipline. But adaptive responses to disconnection, stress, and unmet developmental needs. . This episode is not about diagnosing what is wrong with people. It is about understanding what happened to them and what their bodies learned to survive it. . And more importantly, what becomes possible when we stop asking, "What's wrong with you?" and begin asking, "What happened to you?" In This Episode You'll Discover Why trauma is not defined by events, but by how the nervous system adapts to them How addiction often begins as an attempt at self regulation, not escape The hidden link between chronic stress and physical disease Why high-functioning success can mask unresolved developmental wounds How modern culture normalizes disconnection while pathologizing its symptoms The difference between intellectual insight and embodied healing Why compassion is not soft science, but biological necessity How reconnecting to authenticity becomes the foundation of real resilience Why This Conversation Matters Now We live in an era that rewards performance while quietly eroding connection. Many leaders are celebrated for endurance while their nervous systems remain locked in survival mode. Dr. Maté's work reframes healing not as fixing broken individuals, but as restoring relationship. Relationship to self. To the body. To meaning. To one another. This is not self help. It is a paradigm shift in how we understand human behavior, health, and leadership. About Dr. Gabor Maté Dr. Gabor Maté is a physician, speaker, and internationally recognized authority on trauma, addiction, stress, and human development. His work bridges neuroscience, psychology, and lived experience to illuminate how early environments shape lifelong patterns of health, behavior, and identity. In this episode, Michael explores the intersection of mindfulness and situational ethics, unpacking how awareness can guide us through the complex moral landscapes of everyday life. Drawing from a 2015 lecture in an earlier version of his online course, Embodying Ethics & Vows in Modern Life, exploring in practical detail the two wings of the practice: calming (samatha) and insight (vipassana) With practical examples and grounded insight, he shows how these complementary practices support wise, responsive action—not as abstract ideals, but as lived ethics in real time. Whether you're deepening your meditation practice or navigating difficult choices in modern life, this episode offers thoughtful guidance on embodying awareness where it matters most. This episode is an excerpt from Michael's online course, "Embodying Ethics & Vows in Modern Life," which transforms Buddhist and yogic ethics into practical guidelines for aligning your actions with your values.à If you're interested in taking the full course, visit: https://edu-michaelstone.com/product/embodying-ethics-vows-in-modern-life/

In this solo episode of the Flex Diet Podcast, I break down why NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis), and a simple step count, is one of the most overlooked levers for improving body composition, recovery, and performance. I explain how NEAT often drops when calories are reduced, why that can stall fat loss even when you think you're in a deficit, and how using wearables (or even basic tracking) can make subconscious movement visible and easier to improve. I also share how the Flex Diet Cert is built as a complete system for nutrition and recovery, covering interventions from macros (protein, fats, carbs) to NEAT, sleep, micronutrition, intermittent fasting, and more — designed for everyone from general population clients to high-level athletes. In this week's episode, we continue our deep dive into The Five Ethics with a modern exploration of brahmacharya, often translated as the wise use of energy. What does this ancient ethical guideline have to do with our sexuality, relationships and personal boundaries? We are joined by Jessy Wollen, a Certified Sexual Health Educator and founder of Shift Education, for a frank and compassionate conversation that moves this practice beyond simplistic notions of celibacy to explore: How consent is a foundational practice of brahmacharya, teaching us to encounter all beings with respect and dignity. Why exploring our own sexuality and values is vital for self-awareness and healthy relationships. Practical ways to approach conversations about bodies, boundaries, and respect with young people. Modern life didn't make you lose yourself — it trained your nervous system to disconnect.Your sense of identity is built through the Relational Self Network (RSN), the brain system that forms “self” through emotional attunement and co-regulation. Modern culture floods the brain with stimulation but offers very little relational safety, so the RSN stays active without completing. That's when you feel present but not really here. Connection feels draining. Motivation fades. Intimacy shuts down. Not because you're broken — but because your nervous system adapted. The opposite of disconnection isn't insight. It's regulation. When safety returns, presence returns — and identity stabilizes naturally. If this feels familiar, nothing is wrong with you. Your nervous system just needs safety again. Why Modern Life Is Disconnecting You From Yourself

I am exhausted by the fact that everything now needs an account, an app, or my phone number. I am not trying to join a loyalty program, a community, or a digital ecosystem. I am trying to buy a sandwich. Just give me the discount already!Somewhere along the way, our entire way of living turned into a gamified mess. Points, badges, rewards, tiers, and notifications constantly reminding us we are just one more click away from saving a few cents. To get there, we hand over data, attention, and access without a second thought. We are warned nonstop about identity theft, data breaches, and unauthorized access. We are told to protect our privacy and lock everything down. At the same time, participation in modern life requires our identity at every turn. This episode is part rant and part reality check. What happened to simple transactions? What happened to trust, to authenticity, to real human exchange? Not everything needs to be optimized. Not every interaction needs to be tracked. Chasing rewards is not the same as chasing meaning, and engagement is not the same as connection.Let us keep things real, authentic, and organic. Or at the very least, let us remember what that used to feel like before everything required a login.

Everything costs too damn much and it's not accidental. Food, groceries, bills, repairs, eating out… all of it feels rigged, because it is. We've hit an economic point of no return, drowning in debt while pretending we're not even sure who we owe it to. We're propping up a broken system with fake paper money and calling it “normal.”In this podcast, I break down how we got here and why the simplest fixes are the ones nobody wants to touch. From fast food and veterinarians to big-box stores and auto mechanics, I dig into how everyday necessities turned into financial landmines. This doesn't end well and pretending otherwise won't save us. Hang on to your wallet, brother.
In this week's Best Of episode, Michael explores the ethic of not stealing, (asteya). The Zen master Dōgen offers a beautiful translation: “The self and the things of the world are just as they are. The gate of freedom is open.” At its heart, this teaching is about being content with what we have. Another way to say it is this: not taking anything that isn't freely given. Recorded in 2011. I'm asking a question most people never stop to think about. Do you need to be liked? I've always told myself I don't, but sometimes I wonder if it's the world that's off or is it just me. From traveling solo and eating alone to watching how my dad treated people with kindness that didn't always pay off for me, this one's about what it means to do life on your own terms.I dive into what it's like to be introverted in an extroverted world, how social circles and life can feel like high school all over again, and why being nice doesn't always lead to success. Whether you're a solo traveler, a quiet thinker, or just someone who's tired of chasing approval, this might be your episode.
In this week's Best Of episode, Michael reflects on satya, the practice of honesty. Satya isn't an abstract ideal, it's a lived experience that arises in real time through our relationships and daily lives. At the core of all meaningful practice is a commitment to honesty; without it, principles like non-violence or non-greed can't fully take root. Recorded in 2011. From the 3rd video in Michael's online course, "Embodying Ethics & Vows in Modern Life," a nine-week program weaving Buddhist and yogic ethics into the fabric of daily life. For the next few weeks, we'll be posting excerpts and "Best of" episodes focused on The Five Ethics: • Ahimsa (Non-Violence): I will do no harm, recognizing that I am connected to all living beings. • Satya (Honesty): I will speak the truth as I perceive it and not deceive anyone. • Asteya (Non-Stealing): I will be satisfied with what I have and only take what is freely given. • Brahmacharya (Wise Use of Energy): I will encounter all beings with respect and dignity. • Aparigraha (Non-Greed): I will use all the ingredients of my life and practice generosity. Translator, performance artist, writer, and educator Haleh Liza Gafori on translating Rumi with fidelity and music, and what his poetry can teach us about liberation, attention, and love. You'll learn:Habits Haleh uses to re-centre and get quiet enough to work. How she learned to trust sound and rhythm first, and let meaning arrive through the ear. The moment she realised she needed to make her own translations, and what triggered that decision. A simple test for “is this translation working?”, including why one wrong image can flip the whole poem. Principles Haleh uses to keep translations clear, musical, and emotionally true in English. What an editor can mean by “find your voice,” and how to develop a consistent voice as a translator. How to work with old texts honestly, including naming what doesn't align with your ethics today. What Rumi can teach modern readers about attention, ego, and compassion in daily life. How love shows up in Rumi as a discipline, not a vibe, and why that matters in hard times. What Haleh is building next, and how teaching can deepen (not dilute) your creative practice. About Haleh Liza Gafori:Haleh Liza Gafori is a New York City-born translator, performance artist, writer, and educator of Persian descent. A 2024 MacDowell fellow, she has translated the poetry of the Persian mystic and sage Rumi. Her book of translations, Gold: Poems by Rumi, was published by New York Review Books in 2022. Her second volume of translations, Water: Poems by Rumi, was released in 2025, also by NYRB Classics. Supported by an NYSCA grant, Gafori has created a musical and cross-media performance based on the book, and has presented her work through performances, lectures, and workshops at institutions such as Lincoln Center, Stanford University, the Academy of American Poets, and Sarah Lawrence College. Her book of translations Gold has been incorporated into curricula at universities across the country. We'd love to hear from you, send us a text about your favorite show! There's a moment before a big storm when the air changes. You can feel it. The electricity. The quiet hum of energy building, even before the clouds roll in. You don't need a forecast to know something's coming. The same thing happens before a meaningful shift. The energy starts to gather. Things feel charged. There's that unmistakable sense of ohhh… something's on the way. If you've been noticing that kind of electricity building lately, it may be because the Fire Horse has left the stall and is headed in our direction. In Chinese astrology, the Year of the Fire Horse begins in February 2026, and this episode is an invitation to start getting oriented to that energy now — especially if you're sensitive, intuitive, or someone who's learned to carefully manage your energy over the years.Fire Horse years are known for stirring things awake. They tend to surface what's ready to move, what asks for honesty, and where life has quietly outgrown old habits of endurance and “just making it work.” In this episode, we talk about the themes this year tends to bring forward, and why they matter on an emotional and intuitive level. As this energy approaches, many people also notice subtle changes in how intuition shows up and how connection is experienced. We'll explore what shifts to expect, why intuition may feel different than it has in the past, and how to work with these changes in a way that supports your intuition, your nervous system, and your sense of direction.***2026 in-person Reiki classes in Sedona are scheduled! What is up, Theology Nerds! This week I'm joined by my buddy Matthew Segall from the Footnotes to Plato Substack to announce something exciting: we're doing a joint reading group on Hartmut Rosa's new book Time and World. Rosa's a German sociologist who does big-picture thinking—like old school "let me tell you about modernity" stuff—and his work resonates deeply with process philosophy. His diagnosis? We're stuck in what he calls a frenetic standstill—exhausted, burnt out, running faster just to stay in place. I gave Matt my above-ground pool whirlpool metaphor: we're all running in circles, and if you stop, you get pulled under. Modernity promises us the good life through control—making everything available, accessible, attainable—but the cost is a mute world and the birth of monsters. Rosa's antidote isn't slowing down; it's resonance—a mode of relationship where we're genuinely touched, we respond, we're transformed, and we accept it's all gloriously uncontrollable. Process folks will eat this up: it's Whitehead's prehension, creativity, and divine persuasion in sociological clothing. The invitation? Stop. Listen. Let the world address you again. If you want to join us for the Zoom sessions this February, become a member of either Process This or Footnotes to Plato—preferably both. See you soon. You can WATCH the conversation on YouTube Join us at Theology Beer Camp, October 8-10, in Kansas City! Dr. Segall is a transdisciplinary researcher and teacher who applies process philosophy to various natural and social sciences, including consciousness. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness Program at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, CA. And, what difference does it make? This Lenten class begins where all of Dr. John Dominic Crossan's has work begins: with history. What was actually happening in Galilee in the 20s CE? What did Herod Antipas' transformation of the "Sea of Galilee" into the commercial "Sea of Tiberias" mean for peasant fishing communities? Why did Jesus emerge from John's baptism movement proclaiming God's Rule through parables—and what made that medium so perfectly suited to that message? Only by understanding what Jesus' parables meant then can we wrestle with what they might demand of us now. The class is donation-based, including 0, so join, get info, and join up here. Michael sits down with physician and abortion provider Pat Smith for a thoughtful conversation on the principle of non-harming. Together, they explore the space where ethics meet politics, how our beliefs and values shape the way we move through the world, and the role formal meditation can play in clarifying ethical life choices. This excerpt comes from the second video in Michael's nine-week online course, Embodying Ethics & Vows in Modern Life, which weaves Buddhist and yogic ethical teachings into the rhythms of everyday living. #393 In this episode, Guy welcomed back Gregg Braden to discuss the rapid changes in technology and AI, and their implications for the future of humanity. They explored the unsustainability of current global practices, the potential loss of human qualities, and the importance of preserving our innate capabilities. The conversation also touched on the convergence of societal cycles, the role of AI in various fields, and the necessity of maintaining a balance between technology and our human essence. Gregg emphasized the importance of understanding and cherishing the unique qualities that make us human, and the critical need to be mindful of how we integrate technology into our lives. From 1979 to 1991 Gregg worked as a problem solver during times of crisis for Fortune 500 companies. His research resulted in the 2003 discovery of intelligent information encoded into the human genome, and the 2010 application of fractal time to predict future occurrences of past events. Gregg's work has led to 15 film credits, 12 award-winning books now published in over 40 languages, and numerous awards including Walden Award for New Thought, the Illuminate Award for Conscious Visionaries, and Gregg is listed on the United Kingdom's Watkins Journal among the top 100 of "the world's most spiritually influential living people" for the 10th consecutive year. He was a 2020 nominee for the prestigious Templeton Award, established to honor "outstanding living individuals who have devoted their talents to expanding our vision of human purpose and ultimate reality." In this week's episode, we explore a deceptively simple question: How do you be interconnectedness? It's drawn from the first video in Michael's online course, "Embodying Ethics & Vows in Modern Life," a nine-week program weaving Buddhist and yogic ethics into the fabric of daily life. We are living in a time when people are asking big questions. Exhausted by the news and often feeling fear, sadness, or anxiety, we wonder: What do we do? How do we stay plugged into our values, and how can we be of service? In this mind-expanding conversation of Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, Michael A. Singer—legendary author of bestsellers The Untethered Soul, Living Untethered, and The Surrender Experiment, and founder of Temple of the Universe—returns to reveal the real truth behind spiritual awakening...and why most people are getting it wrong. If you've ever wondered what a spiritual awakening actually looks like on a practical, everyday level, this is the breakdown you've been waiting for. Michael shares a step-by-step framework for building your spiritual identity, and explains why awakenings mean nothing unless you can properly integrate them into your daily life. You'll learn why resilience is the #1 key to coping with modern stress, and why every authentic spiritual teacher puts compassion at the forefront of their teachings. Michael reveals how compassion and acceptance are deeply connected—and how this powerful combination leads to cooperation, unity, and humanity's highest good. We also dive into the science behind spirituality, exploring the brain states of acceptance vs. resistance, and how eliminating the distractions of early emotions and personal narratives can open the door to higher consciousness. Michael even explains why we don't matter nearly as much as we think we do—and why that realization is actually the most liberating truth of all. You'll hear his bold perspective on why we must fix ourselves before trying to fix the world, his belief that science is finally catching up to spirituality, and why the power of awe might be the missing ingredient in your spiritual evolution. Michael also breaks down the concept of the higher self, how to access it, and what it truly feels like to live untethered and surrender to the universe (spoiler: it DOESN'T mean blindly accepting everything that happens—he explains the difference). Plus: his surprising proof that rich people are just as unhappy as everyone else, and his heartfelt message for beginners stepping onto the spiritual path for the first time. And for the first time ever, he shares an exclusive announcement and preview of his upcoming book, along with his mind-bending thoughts on where consciousness really lies… and what happens to consciousness when we die. From microplastics in your brain to multivitamins that actually work, Dr. Rhonda Patrick of FoundMyFitness separates real science from wellness hype here!Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1267What We Discuss with Dr. Rhonda Patrick:Microplastics are accumulating in our brains at up to 10 times more than other organs, and studies show people with Alzheimer's disease had up to 10 times more microplastics in their brains than those without, suggesting these invisible particles may be driving neuroinflammation and cognitive decline. That "BPA-free" label on your water bottle is essentially a marketing sleight of hand. Companies simply replaced BPA with BPS — a chemical now proven to be just as harmful as its predecessor, still disrupting hormones and leaching into everything you drink.Screens and phones are the new sitting (which was the new smoking). Early screen time exposure in children is now linked to depression, mental illness, and even sensory processing issues later in life — and the dopamine-hijacking effects mirror how hyper-palatable processed foods rewire taste preferences.A basic Centrum Silver multivitamin taken daily for two years delayed global brain aging by over two years and episodic memory decline by nearly five years in older adults, contradicting decades of "expensive urine" dismissals from the medical community.Your brain's best friend might be sitting in your gym bag. Creatine at 10 grams daily accumulates in brain tissue, eliminates afternoon energy crashes, and supercharges cognitive performance under stress — a cheap, evidence-backed hack anyone can start today. And much more...And if you're still game to support us, please leave a review here — even one sentence helps! If you're ready to challenge everything you think you know about spirituality, identity, awakening, and the nature of existence itself, this is the episode of MBB you can't afford to miss. You know about breath work. You know about cold exposure. It's a thing all the major "influencers" tell you to do. I had some skepticism myself and that's why I wanted to have this man, the original cold exposure and breath work guy on himself, Wim Hof! He is a man who has redefined the limits of the human mind and body. Known globally as The Iceman, Wim Hof has shown millions of people how to take control of their physiology through breath, cold exposure, and mindset. From climbing mountains in nothing but shorts to teaching everyday men how to regulate stress, build resilience, and reconnect with their primal strength, Wim's work challenges everything we think we know about comfort, health, and human potential. Today, we're talking about cold, breath, discipline, and what it really means to return to our factory settings as men.
