It's an animated TV spree! Ben brings on Jomi Adeniran, Steve Ahlman, and Daniel Chin to talk about several animated shows that premiered or concluded in June, including ‘My Adventures With Superman,' ‘The Legend of Vox Machina,' ‘Adventure Time: Side Quests,' and ‘Among Us.' They break down DC's animation expansion, preview a bunch of Batman shows, and compare and contrast DC and Marvel's animated efforts. Also, Jomi tees off on and crashes out about Season 2 of Netflix's live-action ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender.' Then, Charles Holmes joins for an anime segment featuring Season 1 of the fantasy series ‘Witch Hat Atelier,' and Ben closes with a few non-nerd-culture recommendations. The Avatar has returned… again! In this episode of KDTime, we're diving into the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix) and comparing it to the beloved animated classic Avatar: The Last Airbender (Nickelodeon). I'll run down the casting and visual effects as well as the storytelling changes and character adaptations. I break down what worked, what didn't, and whether the live-action version successfully captured the spirit of the original. But of course this is all opinion based. So while there were a few grievances along the way, the overall verdict is positive as I discuss the impressive world-building, bending effects, and the potential for what's next. Plus, with Season 2 arriving TODAY on June 25, 2026, and bringing Team Avatar into the Earth Kingdom alongside fan-favorite Toph, the future looks promising for the series. I just hope Toph was worth the wait.Join me as I compare two versions of one of the most beloved animated shows of all time and answer the big question: Was the live-action adaptation able to live up to the legend?

Tapping into fandom with animal protection and vegan messages, The Protego Foundation accesses sci-fi, fantasy, and other other devoted fan communities to advocate for animals. Our guest is Brittany Drake, campaigns director for The Protego Foundation. Brittany talks about the foundation's creative campaigns such as getting vegan butter beer offered at the Harry Potter theme parks, a Game of Thrones inspired campaign encouraging vendors at fan conventions not to use wild animals as props for photos, and their latest campaign around the release of the movie sequel, Wicked For Good. Brittany and Hope go on to talk about the animal rights and vegan themes in numerous movies and televisions entertainment, unpacking the animal personhood vision of Wicked, the strong animal characters in The Wizard of Oz, disturbing animal eating parallels in Stargate Atlantis, and vegetarianism in Avatar: The Last Airbender. They also talk about how the use of fictional creatures and characters can garner an audience's imagination and empathy for animals.Brittany Drake is the campaigns director for The Protego Foundation. She has helped with countless campaigns and seen several achieve success including Starbucks' dropping of the vegan upcharge for nondairy milks, Harvard and UMass closing their monkey labs, and Farmer John closing their Los Angeles slaughterhouse. In addition to her campaign work, she has rescued farmed animals and been arrested for civil disobedience on multiple occasions.Resources:The Protego FoundationThe Protego Foundation Mailing List(related) Hope for the Animals Podcast, episode 127: From Teddy Bears to Talking Fish: Children's Media and Animal Personhood with Cogen and Hope Bohanec Recommended Movies: Wicked and Wicked For GoodRemarkably Bright CreaturesChimp CrazyOkja Support this podcast:Hope for the Animals PodcastCompassionate LivingSocial Media:FacebookInstagramYouTube
Paramount just canceled the ATLA RPG -- yeah that big-budget open-world action RPG set thousands of years before the original series with a brand-new Avatar got the axe before it even left early pre-production after Saber Interactive poured years into it. The Skydance merger suits apparently looked at the project, shrugged, and killed it dead while Iroh voice actor Greg Baldwin straight-up called the execs "straight up evil" for flushing another Avatar project down the toilet -- because nothing says "we respect the lore" like hyping a game at announcements and then ghosting fans two years later with zero explanation. Send us Fan MailThe mystery is the point of From, but at what point does mystery turn into stalling? We're back on the Southeast Kingdom Podcast, and we go straight for the pressure point: From on MGM Plus keeps throwing wild twists, new rules, and fresh nightmares at the town, yet the path to an actual resolution still feels invisible. I break down the trapped-town setup, why the talismans used to feel like safety, and why season four's rhythm of hope followed by punishment is starting to wear thin, even when the shock moments hit hard.We dig into the season's biggest threats and reveals, including the man in the yellow suit as a potential mastermind who operates outside the normal protections and seems to “cycle” into town as someone new. We also talk about the settlement horror with the lake dolls that don't care about talismans, Jade and Tabitha's past-life puzzle, and why Donna's health scare matters as much as any monster because leadership is the only thing holding the place together. Then we lighten it up with a ranked list of the June releases I'm most excited to watch, from Vampire Lestat and Scary Movie 6 to Toy Story 5, Supergirl, Avatar The Last Airbender season two, House of the Dragon season three, and a nostalgia-fueled Masters of the Universe moment. We wrap with some real-world venting about politics, war narratives, gas prices, and a dating takeaway that's simple but hard: if your “type” keeps getting you the same results, it might be time to break the pattern. If you're enjoying the show, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a quick review. What's your biggest unanswered question about From right now?

This week, Brandon and Gabby talk about the trailers for both the second season of the Avatar: The Last Airbender live action show and the new upcoming Lanterns show. They talk about what they think the live action will change from the original animated series, what they noticed in the trailer that will definitely be in the show, they speculate about what could be happening in the Green Lantern show, they make a few guesses to why these two characters are thrown together, and they patiently wait for both show's releases
Episode Summary The Boys is officially over, and Frank and Thomas dig into a series finale that split the internet right down the middle. They break down why Homelander's fall hits harder than the backlash suggests, where Kimiko's powers felt rushed, and how Butcher's heel turn landed for comic readers versus everyone else, before scoring both the finale and the full 2019 to now run. From there, they jump to the big screen for The Mandalorian and Grogu, a movie they both enjoyed while admitting the plot is paper thin and the whole thing feels like stitched-together episodes. The centerpiece is a long-awaited sit down with Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, who returns as Uncle Iroh in Avatar: The Last Airbender season two on Netflix and plays Captain Carson Teva in the Star Wars universe. He opens up about adapting a beloved animated series, why he avoids the deep lore cuts when building a character, the reckoning Iroh faces in the live-action version, and the everyman appeal of Carson Teva. He also reflects on Kim's Convenience, the season six that never happened, and why he thinks tearing down something new before watching it is a waste of energy. Timestamps and Topics 00:00:00 Intro and Weekly Catch-Up 00:03:52 The Boys Series Finale Review 00:25:27 The Mandalorian and Grogu Review 00:47:01 Interview With Paul Sun-Hyung Lee 01:20:55 Rapid Fire Questions 01:24:06 Network Updates and Weekly Recommendations Key Takeaways The Boys finale earned an 8 out of 10 from both hosts, with the full series landing at a 9, praised for ending on a hopeful note that the good guys can actually win if they stick together. Homelander losing his powers reveals who he always was underneath the facade, a takedown the hosts rank among the best villain endings on TV, even if the way he lost them through Kimiko felt like a quick fix. The Mandalorian and Grogu works as crowd-pleasing, kid-friendly Star Wars but lacks a real character arc, scoring around a 6 to 7 with both hosts feeling it plays like several episodes cut together. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee approaches adaptation by serving the scripts rather than chasing deep lore, and the live action Avatar gives Iroh a real reckoning for his role in the siege of Ba Sing Se that the cartoon glossed over. Carson Teva works because audiences connect with the grounded everyman in a universe full of Jedi, a role compared to Nick Fury, Agent Coulson, and even R2-D2. Kim's Convenience remains a point of deep pride for Lee, who still wishes fans had gotten the Appa and Jung reconciliation from the original play, but stands by going out on top. Quotes "When those were stripped away, he no longer could act like the same person." (Thomas, on Homelander) "The good guys can just straight up win." (Frank, on the finale's message) "We're so specifically Korean that it becomes universal." (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, on Kim's Convenience) "If you don't watch it, you can't talk smack about it." (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, on hating something unseen) "Go out on top if you're going to go out." (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, on ending Kim's Convenience) Call to Action If you enjoyed this one, subscribe so you never miss an episode, leave us a review wherever you listen, and share it with a friend who needs convincing on the finale. The X-Men '97 Season 2 trailer just dropped and there is a lot to unpack, from Rogue's mission to get back to Gambit to a three-timeline structure that pulls in the past, the 90s, and the future. Apocalypse appears across every timeline, Deadpool gets a transition moment that opens the door for bigger things, and a Rama-Tut appearance raises real questions about how Marvel handles a Kang variant after the Jonathan Majors situation.Frank also covers the behind-the-scenes shakeups, including Beau DeMayo writing most of season two before his departure, a nod to the iconic 1982 Wolverine cover, and the July 1st release plan that kicks off at the Tribeca Film Festival. On today's episode, host Kate Lindsay is joined by journalist and creator Princess Weekes to discuss the ethics of consuming leaks. Ten years ago, a fan with access to leaked material from their favorite artist or creator was considered elite. But now, fandoms like Avatar: The Last Airbender worry that watching the now-leaked most recent film is a slap in the face to the artists. But if the choice is between exploiting an artist's work, and being exploited by the streaming services and corporations that are making ethical consumption even more expensive, then does anyone win? Returning for a 6th episode and to help me get one week closer to the podcast's 10th anniversary is Kris Lozano aka Cafe.Contessa on Instagram. We get to catch up and talk about how long we've known each other before diving into a repeat topic, Taylor Swift. Kris had joined me previously to talk about The Eras Tour once the movie had come out, and before we even had an inkling that a new album was on its way (TTPD). This time, Kris talks about the wrap up of the tour, the final concert that was recorded, plus the behind the scenes documentary. Plus, we revisit a few conversations about costumes and songs from that previous episode (linked below), as well as discuss a bit about the latest album. Then, Kris and I talk about one of her biggest passions, reading. We talk about what books are on her shelf, what books she'd recommend, and what she's looking forward to. We talk about Ana Huang's "King" series (King of Gluttony releasing 4/28), "Not In My Book" by Katie Holt, and the "Never After" series by Emily McIntire. We then wrap up with a little talk about Cosplay. Kris talks about where she is with Cosplay and whether she plans to continue with that part of her life, or hang it up in the closet. Episode Summary This week on Geek Freaks, Frank and Thomas kick things off with Patreon updates, convention plans, and a quick catch-up before getting into one of the messier stories in animation right now: the leaked Avatar: The Last Airbender movie. From there, the episode turns into a big CinemaCon conversation covering Mortal Kombat 2, Street Fighter, The Hunt for Gollum, Godzilla Minus One, Resident Evil, The Mandalorian, Avengers: Doomsday, and more. In the second half, Frank sits down with comic creator Allan Dunford to talk about Mostly Dead, a spooky and heartfelt new comic that blends horror, mystery, and all-ages charm. Allan breaks down the story, the inspirations behind it, and why books like this matter in the indie comics world. It's a packed episode with movie talk, industry conversation, and a strong creator interview all in one place. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Intro, Patreon, and Convention Updates 04:05 Avatar: The Last Airbender Leak Discussion 09:22 CinemaCon Reactions and Movie Talk 51:31 Allan Dunford Interview: Mostly Dead 1:12:30 Network Updates and Event Reminder 1:13:02 Recommendation of the Week 1:18:04 Outro Key Takeaways The Avatar leak turns into a bigger conversation about how animation projects and their creators are valued. Frank and Thomas spend most of the episode reacting to major CinemaCon reveals and what they could mean for theaters and fandom. Mortal Kombat 2, Godzilla Minus One, Resident Evil, and Avengers: Doomsday are some of the biggest excitement points in the episode. Allan Dunford describes Mostly Dead as a spooky, fun, emotional comic with influences from ParaNorman, Monster House, and Evil Dead. The interview also gives a nice look at why indie comics still matter and how creators build something new from the ground up. Memorable Quotes "2D animation has a home. Trust it." "The only way to save face at this point is to put it in theaters." "No limits. You can make an idea as crazy or as tame as you want it to be." "Finding your audience." Mother Nature has been bringing the severe weather to Michigan a ton lately, so much so that tornadoes in the middle of the night are waking people up, just like what it did to Bryan this week! A small tornado touched down within walking distance of his apartment, and Bryan describes on this week's episode his action plan once he woke up to the sounds of sirens and his phone going nuts. Also on this new recording, the guys go over all of the biggest announcements at CinemaCon, with among others Call of Duty announcing a movie, Space Balls 2 putting a title to their long-awaited sequel, and the upcoming Avengers movie dropping a sick teaser.Plus, has the fallout from the sneaky Arizona resort pictures gotten to Dianna Russini, will Project Hail Mary's continued run at the theaters bring Mario and Bryan back to watch the amazing film again, and how on Earth did the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender movie get leaked on Twitter (not saying X because it's still dumb)? All in all, another Legal Aliens Podcast episode that is sure to provide the laughs, confused questions, and riveting commentary.

Did they just break one of the most important parts of Avatar lore? In this episode of Absolute Geek, we dive deep into the latest Avatar project and break down what works… and what really doesn't. From a nerfed Avatar State to questionable power scaling, this version of Aang feels very different from what fans remember—and not in a good way. We're talking about how this compares to Avatar: The Last Airbender, where the Avatar State was the ultimate trump card, versus what we're seeing now—and why it just doesn't hit the same. We also touch on similarities to The Legend of Korra and whether those same storytelling issues are showing up again.

In pop culture, "last" often just means "for now." In intellectual property law, it means something much more concrete. In this episode of IP Goes Pop®, Michael Snyder and Joseph Gushue explore what "last" really means across film, TV, music, and IP law. From The Last Samurai and The Last Jedi to Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Last of Us, "last" builds emotion, but rarely signals the end. In IP law, it does. The hosts explain how rights expire, can be lost early, become generic, or change by statute. Featuring examples like Alexander Graham Bell's telephone patent and It's a Wonderful Life, this episode breaks down why IP rights don't last forever, and why that matters.
