Thank you very much to George for commissioning this episode! These chapters are the ones in which Shera finds out that the kids that she used to work with when she was on the streets have likely been scooped up and turned into assassins by someone else, and that they didn't get out the way she'd imagined. This means that she's not prepared to be on the run from the Consultants, so when Lucan grabs her hand and says "let's blow this popsicle stand", Shera is not on board. Poor Lucan. He tried so hard. Thanks for listening!
HEY EVERYONE! 14th Episode of Season 2. It's Pride Month in America! This will be overall a more of a lighthearted conversation with more political and societal theory tossed in the end. I was lucky enough to have some people to share pride with me this time, but if you are not as lucky as I am but you still have the ability to access LGBTQ content online, then I highly recommend engaging with as many safe spaces and content as possible, especially as positive representation can actually be comforting and healing, especially for us queer folk who often find our community and families outside of our birthplace. Recommendations I forgot to mention are "The Owl House", "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power", "Adventure Time" and "Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts". Feel free to search Children LGBTQ+ representation for more lighthearted, happy and friendly representation. Ooh and definitely read, " D'Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding". Such a good book. Thank you Hellen for the recommendation. I talk a little bit about Lesbophobia and the need for lesbian safe spaces. My tongue gets twisted as I work through my unfolding thoughts on people's reaction to gender specifically the idea of a gender trinary (and how that operates in POC cultures fairly well but could be corrupted in a capitalist western society, the way the need for women's liberation from economic oppression and abusive households was corrupted by eventually becoming tied to girl boss culture instead of the end of patriarchy and full liberation for all women, not just rich ones). Lastly, what would a genderless future look like? Hmm, share your thoughts on Twitter @YsaPlatform FUN FACT: The first Pride March was in October in South Africa and the first pride celebration took place in February in the UK. Nowadays both countries also commemorate the Stonewall Riots in addition to their original celebrations.
Corey is back this week and we talk about the nice respite in hot temps we'll be experiencing for the next few days. The pollen has calmed down a bit but the tropics are starting to slowly ramp up. The week's Weather School is about the UV Index. The sun is out and people are on the lake and frolicking outside getting nasty sunburns. Shera's got some interesting tidbits in her segment and she gives us the Weather Word of the Week! ~~~~~~~~~~ Check out our website at: stormdarweather.com Support us on Patreon at: patreon.com/stormdarweather Follow us on Instagram at: instagram.com/stormdarweathermedia
It's a crossover of sorts as our good friend and local podcaster Ben Rosenthal joins in the fun. While he calls himself a gamer he is very familiar with the collecting world : so much so, he teaches us about the history of Nintendo. A history that, actually begins in the world of toys. (Insert crowd shocked reaction here). Along the way there are botched trademarks, Jump Man, some AMAZING show and tells and more than a few blue jokes. Then it's some Would You Rather as we put the hard word on Ben – Scot in particular! Go check out Hack the Dino on Twitch or Podcast format. News day is here and it feels like it's all targeting Bens wallet – Is this the Ultimate He-Man figure? Are these the coolest Dino figures in the last 10 years? Is this the best Black Adam figure ever? New Toxic Crusaders? A new Soundwave? An EXCLUSIVE Shredder figure? I mean, one man can only have so much money to spend… Meanwhile Funko makes a big play but what does it all MEAN Basil? We also review the amazing Creating G.I. Joe Vol 7 book by Dan Kilingensmith. Thank you very much to George for commissioning this episode!I'm so excited to be getting back into this universe, and we're hitting the ground running by opening with a series of assassination attempts on Regents. Some of them suck and seem to deserve it, and some seem to really be doing their best to help. So what's the deal? Shera seems to think that it's the kids she used to roll with who have been trained from childhood to be killers, now that they've been recruited/conscripted by some unsavory characters. Thanks so much for listening, and I will see you soon with a new episode!
It's time to check out the She-Ra side of the UK comics and what better place to start than issue #1.
Matt Teale sticks around for another episode this time run by, you guessed it, Matt Teale. He walks us through the world of Visionaries and his love for all things Hologram. Don't know much about it? Well be prepared to learn like we did but be sure to pay attention (UNlike how we did) as there is a quiz at the end! Matt's generosity knows no bounds as we play the most shambolic version of Pass the Parcel that would make any parent proud! Before Sean breaks some serious Armageddon/Michael Bay/FF7 related news, we deep dive - along with Cloud and Tifa - into the life stream. Surprise, surprise, Simon offers little to no insight. We begin our hunt for the huge materia and discuss if the Ancient Forest is the worst mini-game in history. This discussion causes us to have some chocobo chit-chat followed by revisiting Rocket Town, where we discuss the long-suffering Shera's vindication. Thankfully, we engage in some more Bugey analysis as he joins the party on the Highwind. All three of the gang decide that they love going in the submarine which causes Simon to harp on about the vastness of the game yet again. We have yet more fruitless Sephiroth/Hojo backstory discussions before Sean has his finest twenty minutes. Did Michael Bay plagiarise Final Fantasy VII for his 1998 blockbuster, ‘Armageddon'? Are Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler's characters just shameless, two-dimensional Cloud and Tifa rip-offs? Have a listen. You be the judge.
