Should a beloved story get a sequel twenty years later, and does anyone actually want it? Matthew Fox and Paul Hoppe take on Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, the new Avatar Studios movie picking up with a grown-up Team Avatar, and neither host walked away loving it. They dig into what makes a "midquel" so hard to pull off, why aging up characters from a beloved kids' show is trickier than it looks, and who a movie like this is actually made for.Paul frames it as a simple question: who was this made for? Matthew traces it to Legend of Korra and a storyline the show never fully resolved. They get into the business side, voice casting, and animation too, and why this is nowhere near as bad as the 2010 live-action disaster, even if it's still not the story either of them wanted. So was this worth making, or just another trip back to a well-loved well?Full show notes and resources**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Spoiler Alert: Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, and the Avatar comic books. We get back into the swing of making bonus content with Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. And this time with a guest. Welcome to the podcast, JP!We all like nostalgia movie sequels made years after the fact right? Tron Legacy, The Matrix 4, Jurassic world. It's always a good move. Haven't we all asked ourselves what Aang and the gang have been up to in their early 20s? Katara and Aang building republic city, Toph training some randos metal-bending, Sokka inventing a weird bike, and Zuko being the firelord or whatever. Just like we all pictured. The only thing we need now is a hot sixth guy who maybe holds the key to Aang's heritage. That would be perfect, just as long as he isn't secretly evil…

Avatar Studios’ first movie is finally here! 11 years since the last Avatar animated content, the From the Sprit World crew is back to discuss the big new Aang movie, “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender”. We talk about Aang’s arc, the Adult Gaang, Tagah, and much more. Note: this was recorded on June 5th 2026 discussing the leaked copy of the film. Several of us wanted to watch early to avoid spoilers and didn’t want to wait months to discuss, and now it’s released for all to listen to! Please watch the official release on Paramount+ to support future Avatar Studios works! Since we recorded this the release date of the film was moved up to July 25th. Also, Mike and Bryan said Aang is 25 in the film, we were unsure of his exact age at time of recording. At SDCC they confirmed Katara was pregnant in earlier versions of the movie. The Avatar has returned, but this time the world may not want her. The trailer introduces Pavi, a young Earthbender living in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity survives inside the Seven Havens—and where the Avatar is blamed for the destruction that came before. With Korra appearing in mysterious flashbacks, Pavi discovering her long-lost twin sister Nisha, and both humans and spirits seemingly hunting the new Avatar, there is A LOT to unpack. Toph Beifong is a fan favorite character from the award winning shows Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. First introduced as a twelve-year-old blind earthbender, her character was initially designed very differently. Spider-Man star J.K. Simmons and Tom Brittney join Nerdtropolis Mayor Sean Tajipour on Reel Insights to talk about The Westies, the gritty new MGM+ crime drama premiering July 12. Brittney has also recently been linked by unconfirmed reports to the DCU's future Batman role, while Simmons remains one of the most recognizable comic book actors through Spider-Man, Invincible and The Legend of Korra. In The Westies, Simmons plays Eamon Sweeney, the old-school leader fighting to maintain control of his criminal empire. Brittney plays Jimmy Roarke, a younger and more rebellious member of the organization who represents a generation hungry to change how business is done.Simmons and Brittney break down the growing conflict between the Westies' established leadership and the younger generation. They explain how control, ambition and survival create a dangerous internal struggle that could threaten the future of the entire organization. The conversation also explores why the quieter scenes can feel just as threatening as the show's violent moments. Simmons discusses using silence, listening and observation to reveal what Eamon is thinking, while Brittney opens up about Jimmy's relationship with Bridget, played by Sarah Bolger, and how their private moments offer a different side of his character.Simmons also explains his approach to researching the real Westies. Because Eamon and Jimmy are fictional characters created for the series, he focused on lifting the characters from the page instead of trying to imitate specific historical figures. The interview closes with Simmons and Brittney revealing one of the show's most unexpected elements: its dark humor. They discuss how Irish gallows humor brings moments of light into an otherwise brutal world and why humor becomes essential when the dramatic stakes are so high.Plus, Simmons delivers the ultimate compliment by calling Nerdtropolis “the best word in the history of words.”Visit Nerdtropolis.comFacebook.com/nerdtropolisInstagram.com/nerdtropolisTwitter.com/nerdtropolisTikTok.com/@nerdtropolis

In this episode, Ode (@thatsod.e / @thatsod_e) and Mo aka Kid Licorish (@licorishislegit) welcome Jared and D'Marcus of the Black Geek Energy podcast for a Pride‑themed round of “This or That” that pits queer icons head‑to‑head. The conversation names and weighs Ryan Wilder versus Renee Montoya, North Star versus Iceman (Bobby Drake) and the implications of legacy characters coming out, Garnet's Ruby & Sapphire origin and marriage (with shoutouts to Rebecca Sugar and Estelle), and the Korra & Asami relationship versus William Clockwell and Rick Sheridan from Invincible. The show moves into Sailor Uranus & Neptune and Yuri & Victor from Yuri on Ice, and closes the bracket with One Piece favorites Bon Clay and Emporio Ivankov, including a fandom theory about Crocodile and Luffy's mother. The episode also threads in cultural moments including New York Pride, a Dyke March shoutout, a Zendaya / Spider‑Man and representation debates. The hosts and guests shift into segments that mix pop culture history and hot takes: debates about mentor/mentee dynamics in Yuri on Ice, the legacy of early Marvel representation (North Star), and the emotional stakes in Invincible's William & Rick arc. Interstitial segments include “We Big Made” complaints (from grocery prices to spam from Tractor Supply Co.) and “What's Making Us Happy” notes about Beacon website work and podcast cross‑promotion (JP Morgan VP mention appears in guest plugs). The tone throughout is celebratory and argumentative in equal measure. Welcome back to another wild episode of the Jungle Squad Cast! We are celebrating a massive reunion today as a fan-favorite host returns after a two-year hiatus to bring the heat, the pizza, and some serious gym gains. This episode is raw, unfiltered, and packed with the high-energy debates you have been waiting for. In episode 144, Ape Loso, Rad and Rahh are joined by the one and only Thalia aka Big Dawg T. We dive deep into where she has been, her journey through the gym, and the mental growth she experienced while away from the spotlight. The squad breaks down the latest music drops, including Bossman Dlow's new project and the trend of 90-second songs. We also give our honest, controversial takes on Conway the Machine and discuss why Chris Brown continues to dominate the summer vibes despite his past. The conversation gets nostalgic as we reminisce about classic Nickelodeon and Disney shows like Kenan and Kel and The Romeo Show. Things take a serious turn when we debate the leaked Avatar content and the age-old question of whether Aang or Korra would win in a fight. Finally, we get into the nitty-gritty of relationships, discussing the "order of operations" during an argument, sex compatibility tests, and how to know when it is officially time to walk away from a partner. Did they just break one of the most important parts of Avatar lore? In this episode of Absolute Geek, we dive deep into the latest Avatar project and break down what works… and what really doesn't. From a nerfed Avatar State to questionable power scaling, this version of Aang feels very different from what fans remember—and not in a good way. We're talking about how this compares to Avatar: The Last Airbender, where the Avatar State was the ultimate trump card, versus what we're seeing now—and why it just doesn't hit the same. We also touch on similarities to The Legend of Korra and whether those same storytelling issues are showing up again.
