This week we sat down with Del Harrow to talk about his upcoming workshop Digitally Fabricated Molds here at Anderson Ranch As ceramic artists, the technology we use is a language. Our ideas and creative voices are expressed through tools, techniques and materials, which are both consistent and also continually evolving. This week we sat down with Padma Rajendran to discuss her workshop Textile Printing: Screen Block, Foil & Dye here at Anderson Ranch. Padma Rajendran lives and works in New York and teaches at SUNY Purchase and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She has taught workshops at Byrdcliffe Artist Residency, Textile Art Center, Habitat for Artists, and the Neuberger Museum. Boris is teaching Recycled Furniture: F.O.R.M.S in our sculpture department Jun 10 - 14 this summer! In this interview we spoke to artist Emilio Perez while he was expanding from painting to ceramic sculpture while at Anderson Ranch. We learned about the current state of his work, as well as his upcoming exhibitions and plans, many of which involve returning to Cuba, the country of his families origin, where he will be completing an installation as part of the Havana Biennial.
Roberto Juarez is our enthusiastic guest this week on Art Talks. He has been coming to the ranch for years, first as a printmaker then as faculty teaching both print and painting classes! He is a part of Anderson Ranch's history you will not want to miss!
In this episode we feature visiting artist Katie Stout and her journey into making large scale figurative ceramic lamps. Based on images of the past, Katie creates lamps for the home that challenge past depictions of women in furniture. She spoke to us about the process of making these creations, as well as what lies in the future for her work after visiting the ranch!
This week we sat down and spoke with painter/photographer/collage artist Holly Roberts about her process, and past experiences at the ranch. Roberts has been coming to the ranch for 32 years. In the past two weeks she taught two workshops in the combination of painting and photography. Holly Roberts’ work combines photography and paint to construct photo collages. She creates psychologically expressionistic images that are figurative. Holly has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She has published three monographs of her work, including Holly Roberts, Holly Roberts: Works 1989-1999 and Holly Roberts: Works 2000-2009. This week we talk to two students Dyana Furmansk and Cynthia Ruggero plus ceramics intern Joelle Ferrara about their experiences with artist John Gill at the ranch. John has been at coming to the ranch for over 30 years, and we discuss his creative ability, teaching, and his impact and energy at the ranch. His workshop titled Hand Built Pots: Surface and Form was a two week study in ceramics open to all skill levels.
This week we sat down with Anderson Ranch Editions director and master printer Brian Shure. In our conversation, he spoke with us about his vision for printmaking at the ranch, and what the editions program can provide visiting artists and the community. Anderson Ranch Editions For decades, top contemporary artists have visited Anderson Ranch Arts Center and produced quality artwork here in our Patton Print Shop. The Anderson Ranch Editions are a collection of these prints made available for purchase exclusively by Anderson Ranch, and proceeds help support programming excellence at the Ranch. Brian Shure is a Master Printer and Director of the Anderson Ranch Editions Program as well as the Chair of the Anderson Ranch Gallery Program. Previously he was a Master Printer at Editions Press Lithography Studio and then at Crown Point Press, where he also coordinated the China Woodblock Program. He taught at the Rhode Island School of Design for 20 years.
This week on Art Talks #3, we sat down with faculty and visiting artist Casey Reas. We spoke with him about his experience teaching Experimental Video and Animation Through Code one week, and making a new series of video work at the ranch the next. Listen to him discuss the purpose of code and its ability to mingle with the other crafts at Anderson Ranch. Casey Reas is an artist and educator. He has a studio in Los Angeles and he is a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles in the Department of Design Media Arts. Welcome to the first episode of Art Talks, a new audio series from the Anderson Ranch Arts Center featuring artists, faculty, staff and community members. This weeks episode features charismatic visiting artists Steven and William Ladd. These brothers are shown around the world creating installation based artwork in fabric, beading, painting, sculpture and more. While at the Ranch they were conceptualizing and creating new works and they sat down with us to discuss their process and future endeavors.
