hello everybody welcome to the christmas pod i have been so incredibly busy and i'm looking around me and i'm seeing other people being incredibly busy too so i don't know about you but i i feel a bit i could do with the rest and it's only the 10th well it's the 10th tomorrow now i've got for you the um day 10 advent calendar it's i've actually called the um file advent calendar day nine which is because i missed a day because we were so busy yesterday basically we're launching we have launched it it's gone out today tonight actually um a new interactive book called immerse and what you do is you you go to the blog it's all over my website you'll be able to sit so you go to the blog telltaler.club and you um you choose what happens at the end of each page but you don't find out what what you know what's going to happen to your character or to the storyline until the next day at midday that's how it works and um it was all it was lots of so much tech stuff and i was using artificial intelligence so we had meetings just to try out this artificial intelligence and which is run by facebook and it was really thrilling to start with but after about the fifth genera generation as in generating uh text he he and he's got to be a he because he was so boring definitely definitely a sort of boring well i just think you knowlike mark zuckerberg or whatever his name is you know he like him boring boring to look at boring product boring um view of you know the way he presents himself boring boring boring and it's unusable completely unusable so anyway we were trying to do this thing where the ai um you know you put in say you put in uh father christmas was um is going shopping and one of the reindeers has has hurt his leg and then and then you'd put generate story and and it generates i mean some of them quite surreal um but generally it generates something completely mad with one thing that's a good idea but the rest is rubbish so you have to rewrite it anyway and the thing is if you're going to rewrite it you may as well have written it yourself do you know what i mean it's that sort of thing with with the staff you know that aren't um quite good enough where you say oh do if you want a job doing properly do it yourself it's that sort of thing so so i thought right okay i've got to write you know between 500 and 800 words say um of adventure um it daily in between running all my music classes being an art investor um you know buying fancy clothes and all these other things that i do each day and of course write music for the advent calendar so because of all these meetings and everything we were trying things out i i missed a day i can't believe it i thought i'd done it and i hadn't so i feel terrible because there may have been children i mean fortunately the advent calendar did put up a picture automatically when people pressed on the door um i mean i don't know if anybody's actually using it we shall we'll find out i mean it doesn't tell me if it's been um interacted with at all and to be honest all the songs are on youtube and uh on my website so um you know i guess people are probably looking there rather than having to fiddle fart around with an advent calendar i mean i don't know i don't know what do you think um anyway i've done it it's beautiful this piece and um i think you'll really really appreciate it and i'll follow it up with the x the christmas song which is our single release of course which you can buy by the way um now the other thing with all this you know wonderful stuff we're doing film i've opened the cinema too at the club it's been a real crazy week and i i guess i wanted everything to be up and ready so people can look at christmas and they can listen to everything and you know the pleasure sharing the joy and sharing the pleasures and don't forget i'll be broadcasting on christmas day um and we'll do a live broadcast i might get mother involved actually and we'll have a whole playlist and i'll talk in between and chat and we'll pull crackers and talk silly nonsense and i just want i really want to do that for anyone who's on their own and um i i just love this idea that i'm you know interacting with strangers who just you know they're just listening they just want to hear me ramble on about nothing of great importance other than the um human kindness and silly christmas songs so there we go so have a listen to this little uh broadcast it's very vapor punky um i'm afraid vapour punk is all about christmas and of course the other thing this piece i'm doing this immerse immersion rather it's called it's about a robot so i'm completely obsessed with robots at the moment so i've done a text-to-speech thing automated on google as well so you can you can actually hear it on one of the podcasts um so i'm just going to uh very robotic and until i tire of them um that it's going to be that way um but unfortunately i'm still not able to get them to do anything for me i mean i still have to do all my own housework and i still have to write my own stories and i still have to you know make all my own music because i i am still humans are still way better than robots after all this time and effort unbelievable anywayhey everybody it's vapour punk and the orchestra hello hello now today i'm going to play a song with no music we don't have to play any music either what do people dowe always play music not play any music ah wow i had a really good idea i thought we could all get under the duvet and have snuggle time and listen to the pretty songso do i oh but hang on a minute what's that metal thing sticking out from under the bedcan i bring my dog can i bring my teddy bear yes yes yes you can all bring whatever you want under the duvet Christmas at Royal Clarence with Sarnia, Vapor Punk and the Robot Orchestra Podcast Fun

A catch-up from the marina with the gang and chat n tracks for the season making the world go round.https://calendar.myadvent.net/?id=412ccaf8339fe212f885a89531808b71hello christmas people welcome to the christmas podcast now i've already had one christmas because i went up to goodwood on saturday to the goodwood hotel and met up with family and you may have heard about it i did talk about it already but what i wanted to point out today was how wearing anything bright and colorful can really change your mood and it's amazing because it really makes you feel christmassy and i was thinking about this i was thinking about how what we wear and how we present ourselves can change everybody around us and make everybody else feel really really happy as well so i'd worn a dress that was covered in sequins it was very very christmassy and i've you know i mean obviously i looked like a christmas tree and there was a christmas tree and you could wouldn't have distinguished the the two of us honestly me and the christmas tree tree were one darlings were one um but it's interesting isn't it how um this can affect every everything around and how we love to dress up and the christmas jumper of course the christmas jumper was never a thing when i was a child but i'm you know i'm well over half a century old so this was a long long time ago and sort of bleaker times when perhaps um things like christmas jumpers were you know more expensive and frivolous now we they're manufactured in um china and made of nylon i did see a program actually about christmas jumpers and um there's a chap who has a business i think up in yorkshire way and he makes christmas jumpers he does actually make them all year round and sell them all year round they're done on a machine and he puts the pattern in to the machine and it struck me there was an awful lot of waste actually because when when you're um creating with a machine when the colors are not in use they're they're still on the back so you you end up with all these layers with all the different colors on the back of the jumper so that they're sort of wasted whereas when you knit you knit and then you cast off that color and you start your new color do you see um so i i really am thinking about the recycled christmas jumper today you know i'm going through this uh recycled um fad if you like well it's not a fad i've always recycled but of course everybody's talking about recycling now because of eco concerns and as it should be but you can get for about five pounds although they're putting the prices up in the charity shops that's a thrift shop if you're we call them charity shops here it's a thrift store um so secondhand re pre-loved reused old made new again fresh freshened up hopefully you might need to give them a wash that's the only thing sometimes you can buy things and they said they do smell a bit musty because they've been somebody's you know um store cupboard for 20 years or the attic or something and so sometimes you do need to give things a little wash and you know what i bought which is a really cool idea it's a steam iron thing but it's not an iron it's you sort of hold it like a gun you plug it in unfortunately it doesn't need electricity you're dependent on that you plug it in and it it has this sort of spout thing and you press a button and steam comes out and you just run it up and down the garment and it irons it for you and it's by far and away the the best um piece of kit i've ever bought so when's nobody here to do my ironing which is usual you know this you always want to wear something that isn't ironed don't you um i just get that that out and it it's just easier but also because of the steam it freshens up too which is really nice it sort of gives it a little clean as well so that's really good um anyway so i was wearing that my daughter wore a beautiful uh red long red skirt and my son-in-law wore um he was in gray which wasn't very christmasy but it was a suit and a flannel suit and it was just you know such a lovely thing for us all to dress up and mummy excelled because mummy wore a fascinator so she or she was already very christmas tree-like as soon as i got in the car i thought oh there we go i mean she might as well have put an angel on her head but it wasn't it was feathers and bows but an angel would have been um great fun wouldn't it um but then she would have perhaps not appreciated such irony as i do is it ironic if somebody puts an angel on their head i don't know if that's the right word i think it would be because um it had that element it would have had that element of humor wouldn't it anyway i'm waffling away what have i got for you today i've got the advent calendar a figure pudding song and this is one that i did last night now i have to do this very very quickly because i can't believe i'm not i'm on number six actually this is number six although it's marked as number five i need to change that but it is number six which means i've only got 19 more to go and you it's amazing isn't it how the this is the days marching forward to christmas day our wonderful christmas day now i do feel i need to find you some um rather nice stories and things like that so i'm going to do that for tomorrow um oh i was going to tell you actually the i gave my presents to my family so i'd given a ring to my daughter and her eyes it was such an emotional thing we were quite we were a bit teary really because well i i was and she was quite overwhelmed because the you know there were very big diamonds and um and i won't lie afterwards i thought oh should i give i've given those away they're better than i thought they were they were pretty large um but you know this is life isn't it i can buy some more diamonds for myself and as i said i didn't really like the the balance i didn't like the um the gold band for me on my on my hands particularly anyway my son-in-law i bought him biscuits and i just bought this huge gift bag which i filled with biscuits and i tell you his eyes were lit up i was and i was rather nervous about it because i thought i'm not sure if that's you know it wasn't particularly generous it didn't cost much but they were talking about how he doesn't like things tangible things that take up space and room in in the you know in his life in his apartment in his you know his space and i really started to think about that because obviously the the whole kind of recycling thing and i i think that's what it's about isn't it when you begin to hoard things and you become i think we've all got a bit of a hoarding disease and we just want loads of stuff and i think it's a mindset and we can get rid of that and but what it means of course is food is it it goes away doesn't it it's there and then it's gone and it's there are two ways of looking at that there's one the one way which is like oh it's not tangible there's nothing around it seems like a waste seems like you had nothing or well it clears the space for something else and you thoroughly enjoyed it on the way down do you see so i'm really interested in this idea now of um space and and having clarity because when you have space you have clarity and you can construct your life around it and you can you know you can see the wood for the trees as it were so i'm sort of working with that i really like i'm enjoying that concept and the idea of having things minimally a minimal rather minimal existence because my the penthouses choker darlings chocker with stuff and i need to i need to get rid of things there are things i never wear things i never use and and they're really blocking vibes for for yourself in your space in your environment i think so um yeah i'm quite fascinated with that so i'm i am i'm having a clear out another one um because i seem to have a propensity to collect things as an art dealer one does of course but art is flat art can go on walls art doesn't take up as much room as you think but you know there are other things that i that i hoard that i really shouldn't handbags for example they need to go you need one handbag that's that's what i need one one really beautiful handbag and one really beautiful you know pair of shoes perhaps i've got i've got so many shoes that i've got heels and i don't wear them do you see so i'm thinking about that today and i'm thinking about christmas being or more instant pleasures for the time that don't pollute your living experience anyway i've only got mum to do she's getting art um and i bought my son a torch um which he absolutely adored so christmas went well and i i didn't spend much money which was good i think in these uh rather frugal difficult times where the only people making money are people making vaccines so there we go um so i'm going to play the uh figgy pud for the advent calendar and i'm going to pop the advent calendar link in the description and you should be able to click on it and go straight there and it's jolly good fun it's really lovely the advent calendar um and i'm hoping and i think it will be available all year i mean i'm using a service uh so i'm not entirely sure if it if it still exists after christmas using up data who knows is very good advertising for my you know all my sites and everything so um there we go enjoy have a lovely day and i'll be back as soon as possible hopefully tomorrow but i'm off i'm off to london tomorrow for another christmas party um they're all sort of happening we've got a storm coming so i'm i'm not holding my breath for the because there's a bit of a it's only yellow um weather warning it's not amber i think i think that means it's not so bad um i don't really pay much attention because we're on the south coast you don't we tend no #advent, Welcome to the 2021 Advent Callendar collection of wonderful songs. You can get all the advent songs each day on the www.tale-teller.club main site too.https://calendar.myadvent.net/?id=412ccaf8339fe212f885a89531808b71auto texthello everybody welcome to royal clarence now this is the kids um the kids show really because i'm going to play the first five songs from the advent calendar a little bit early but i know children will be in bed so it doesn't matter that you're going to hear number five um before midnight um but you know i don't mind if you do hear it so you can get all these tracks on the advent calendar i can't believe i've done five already well of course it's not me is it it's it's vapour punk and the robots nothing to do with me really um it it's amazing how when you start making things that you build up really really quickly if you do something every day i mean it seems obvious doesn't it that in a week or half seven but you don't appreciate that until you actually do it and i i like this idea this uh discipline and this um let me just move my headphones this kind of sense of resolve um this uh you know if you resolve to do something it it can be it feels a bit you know it's the same with cello practice i hadn't done any shadow practice last week for various reasons but mostly because i'm doing these songs and um you know something i had to give while i was working out my sort of new timetable my new discipline but when i was teaching on thursday i played i i felt i played badly because i hadn't practiced and this is the thing with music it's all about practice it's not really about talent or skills or or it is skills of course but skills are practiced skills they you know you they don't come from nowhere they come from doing things all the time often over and over again that's how you perfect things and that's how i can make these tracks seamlessly and now i can do them quite quickly i'm getting a bit better at them so instead of taking four hours now they take two for example and i'm sure by the time i get to number 25 they'll take um you know one hour who knows maybe less maybe less anyway i'm going to play you all the tracks i had an absolutely wonderful day today i spent um time with family for my first christmas event and i've got a lot of christmas events coming up i've got one on tuesday in london so on tuesday i'm going to have to get my tune for the next day done before i leave for london so you know in the morning before midday or i might just do two the night before you see that's how that's how we have to do it we have to plan ahead when we commit to doing something every day and of course musicians do very often they have to commit to things in advance um and it's not my favorite thing committing i won't deny that anyway i'm going to play advent 1 advent 2 advent 3 advent 4 and advent 5 in this broadcast so that you can find them all together and of course in over the coming days i'll be doing new broadcasts with the sort of updated tunes so by the by the time we get to christmas day we'll have a group of 25 all in one place and i think that's the best way of doing it because otherwise you're sort of fishing around looking for all the all the different um you know days the issues behind the doors the easiest way of course is just go to the advent calendar but uh you can only see up to day four today after midnight you can open the next door okay that's how that's how it works so do enjoy i do hope you like them and feel free to give some feedback the robots are having such fun doing these they really really are and i'll be back uh well a bit later with bedtime sonia and a bit uh much later tomorrow later with um new new lots of lovely new stuff and i know tomorrow we're going to be updating the library again because um it's quite important i think that we have new books all the time coming into the library fun books fun stories interesting things to learn but also you know the big thing is when you're doing lots of learning you also need to break up the time and you need to entertain yourselves so we'll be doing that um tomorrow so here we go guess what everybody it's the 1st of december did you open the door of the advent calendar well guess who's here with me todaywhat are we going to do today let's make some music let's have a party a christmas party with loads of cake and lots of giggles come on everybody stop mocking aroundis isishey everybody guess what it's the 2nd of decemberso close to christmas day i'm going to pop and the robots from the orchestra are being really excitedare we going to think about the snowman let us sing about the snowmanno the snowman doesn't die when the sun shines the snowman just goes away because it doesn't like the hot weather so it comes back when it's cold oh i see the snowman just needs cold weather and he appears again don't worry he always comes back every winter you see him back again what to dance with a snowman i want to sting with thisokay let's get ready yet snowman came to life one day because the sun is shining hard and he said hey hey hey hey it's christmas day you're gonna cometonight awayoh i can you stop singingis my singing getting better not reallyhey everybody guess what it's december 3rd we're getting so close to christmas we've got another song for you today but if you listen very very carefully orchestra please be quiet stop making the move oh couples what a Here is the link for the advent calendar folks.https://calendar.myadvent.net/?id=412ccaf8339fe212f885a89531808b71hello everybody welcome to the christmas pods now then how are we getting on are you stressed yet well i've been working with the orchestra and we've been making songs and for some reason i created a bit of a project a virtual advent calendar where children can go online and open the doors at the click of a button and they would hear a track from the telltale club the orchestra the robots and vapour punk who's our sort of lead singer if you like the band well it's very hard because obviously i have to do one every day so i've been rather remiss when it comes to present buying and on saturday i have a family christmas uh first family christmas with my daughter and her her boyfriend and my grandchild and i haven't bought anything yet i mean goodness i'm not going to panic i you know there are other things in life apart from um being judged badly as a terrible grandmother because you didn't buy any presents well of course i'm going out tomorrow and i'm going to devote the day to sourcing suitable gifts that will probably involve an awful lot of chocolate because you can't go wrong with chocolate can you and i've brought my daughter some diamonds we've got diamonds and gold for her that's all right that's already organized and she said that her partner would just really really like uh some biscuits you know fancy biscuits many biscuits lots of biscuits so that well i'm going to go to waitrose and i'm going to see what their biscuit selection's like i thought wouldn't it be nice just to get a beautiful gift box something that you could use afterwards and i know he's a painter he paints little um wargaming warhammer figures i thought if i could get a box something you know with drawers in it or something that you could put all your paint brushes in and your figures and then a big area that i just fill with packets of fancy biscuits what do you think i mean i think that's a pretty good bloke gift actually now my grandson when i went to goodwood i because i cycled to get the train and parked my bike up i had my um my light my battery operated light it's one with a usb plug-in in my bag and he was rooting through my bag and um he loved it he absolutely loved it so i think i'm going to go and see if i can buy some torch things things with torches on hats with torches in um what else uh some kind of i don't know if i go to uh gadget shops and find there'll be things weren't there there'll be things that shine that light up um that you can direct into people's eyes like lasers and things like that all that sort of thing i thought yeah that sounds pretty good doesn't it so tomorrow i'm going to go off i'll tell you all about it when i get back and i'll also tell you on saturday how everybody got on you know what they if they like their presence i mean the thing is they're not going to lie and say i mean they're not going to tell the truth if they didn't like it are they hopefully they're not you know that that would be bad form so i'm hoping that i'll i'll have some novelty factor approval at least um and i might go around and have a look in some charity shops as well because i wanted a completely recycled christmas and i might have been able to find something quirky do you see where i'm going i'm going quirky but the last thing i want to do is buy anything that was made in china that killed turtles on its journey home to me rather or in its manufacture manufacturer manufacturing processes you know and anything was hurt animals or wildlife or anything like that you don't want anything like that so i'm being very very careful um but of course i haven't had time because i'm doing the advent calendar so i haven't really had time to sort of make anything by hand myself now mother wants nudes and i'm an artist of i'm a bit of a retired artist actually because i'm much more about the music these days but i can whack a nude out with a bit of charcoal i could probably whack a nude out with a matchstick actually a burnt matchstick um one gets good at these things when one gets older well and it's not so much when one gets older it's when one is well practiced and uh you know i've been doing a lot of practice over the years um so that's that and then i think i think i'm all right i think i'm on target but there's my brother i need to do him that's tricky because he's i don't do you find men very difficult to buy for i mean do you know what guys i could do the biscuit thing couldn't i for my brother too because i think he's pretty partial to biscuits what a great idea i mean you know if you've got a good idea repeat it do it again that's what i say right now then i'm going to play you two tracks so these are the advent calendar tracks so far so we're we're only on the second of december so there's only two of them but tomorrow there'll be three and i'll play all three and have a chat and you'll hear all three and then the next day you'll hear all four and and this is how it's going to go on from now until christmas day and i'll endeavor to um actually you know broadcast because obviously uh things were difficult now i was teaching today i was teaching cello so it's uh it's already 9 30 9 15 and you know the time's marching on i've got to do uh number three recording it's very good though in fact i i really do think you're going to like these so do um tell everybody i'm going to put the link of the advent calendar in the description and i'll also put it in the chat box on the spreaker site so you'll be able to cop all you do is copy it paste it into your your google search bar thing and you'll go straight to the advent calendar and you can open the doors and it's super fun for children and i'm not saying you're going to enjoy the songs if you're grown up but absolutely super fun for children okay and christmas let's face it darlings christmas is really all about the children isn't it because um you know we're jaded we're old and jaded now so do enjoy and i'll be back tomorrow guess what everybodydid you open the door of the advent calendar well guess who's here with me todaywhat are we going to do today let's make some music let's have a party a christmas party with loads of cake and lots of giggles come on everybody stop mocking around it's justis is come oncome on everybodyhey everybody guess what it's the 2nd of decemberso close to christmas day i'm going toand the put from the orchestra are being really excitableare we going to think about the snowman let us sing about the snowmanno the snowman doesn't die when the sun shines the snowman just goes away because it doesn't like the hot weather so it comes back when it's cold oh i see the snowman just made cold weather and he appears again don't worry he always comes back every winter youokay let's get ready yep snowman came to life one day because the sun is short and hard and he said hey hey hey hey it's christmas day i've gotta come tonightthe nightaway because he wanted to dance with the kids hey heycan you stop singingwe're supposed to be doing a performance you know all over the worldvapor is my singing getting better not really

brought the angels with meno christmas maybewe miss them jesus tearsi thought the angels with me i know my friends i know my friends will be today no more christmas maybepreface and stave one of a christmas carol this is a librivox recording all librivox recordings are in the public domain for more information or to volunteer please visit librivox.org a christmas carol by charles dickens preface and stave one preface i've endeavored in this ghostly little book to raise the ghost of an idea which shall not put my readers out of humor with themselves with each other with the season or with me may it haunt their houses pleasantly and no one wished to lay it their faithful friend and servant cd december 1843stave one marley's ghost marley was dead to begin with there was no doubt whatever about that the register of his burial was signed by the clergymen the clerk the undertaker and the chief mourner scrooge signed it and scrooge's name was good upon change for anything he chose to put his hand to old marley was as dead as a doornail mind i don't mean to say that i know of my own knowledge what there is particularly dead about a doornail i might have been inclined myself to regard a coffin nail as the deadest piece of iron mongerie in the trade but the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile and my unhollowed hands shall not disturb it or the country's done for you will therefore permit me to repeat emphatically that marley was as dead as a doornail scrooge knew he was dead of course he did how could it be otherwise scrooge and he were partners for i don't know how many years scrooge was his sole executor his sole administrator his solar sign his sole residuary legite his soul friend and soul mourner and even scrooge was not so dreadfully cut up by the sad event but that he was an excellent man of business on the very day of the funeral and solemnized it with an undoubted bargain the mention of marley's funeral brings me back to the point i started from there is no doubt that marley was dead this must be distinctly understood or nothing wonderful can come of the story i am going to relate if we were not perfectly convinced that hamlet's father died before the play began there would be nothing more remarkable in his taking a stroll at night in an easterly wind upon his own ramparts than there would be in any other middle-aged gentleman rashfordly turning out after dark in a breezy spot say saint paul's church art for instance literally to astonish his son's weak mind scrooge never painted out old marley's name there it stood years afterward above the warehouse door scrooge and marley the firm was known as scrooge and marley sometimes people new to the business called scrooge scrooge and sometimes marley but he answered both names it was all the same to him oh but he was a tight fisted hand at the grindstone scrooge a squeezing wrenching grasping scraping clutching covetous old sinner hard and sharp as flint from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire secret and self-contained and solitary as an oyster the cold within him froze his old features nipped his pointed nose shriveled his cheek stiffened his gate made his eyes red his thin lips blew and spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice a frosty rhyme was on his head and on his eyebrows and his wiry chin he carried his own low temperature always about with him he iced his office in the dog days and it didn't thought one degree at christmas external heat and cold had little influence on scrooge no warmth could warm no wintry weather chill him no wind that blew was bitterer than he no falling snow was more intent upon its purpose no pelting rain less open to entreaty foul weather didn't know where to have him the heaviest rain and snow and hail and sleet could boast of the advantage over him in only one respect they often came down handsomely and scrooge never did nobody ever stopped him in the street to say with gladsome looks my dear scrooge how are you when will you come to see me no beggars implored him to bestow a trifle no children asked him what it was a clock no man or woman ever once in all his life inquired the way to such and such a place of scrooge even the blind men's dogs appeared to know him and when they saw him coming on would tug their owners into doorways and up courts and then would wag their tails as though they said no i at all is better than an evil eye dark master but what did scrooge care it was the very thing he liked to edge his way along the crowded paths of life warning all human sympathy to keep its distance was what the knowing ones call nuts to scrooge once upon a time of all the good days in the year on christmas eve old scrooge sat busy in his counting house it was cold bleak biting weather foggy with all and you could hear the people in the court outside go wheezing up and down beating their hands upon their breasts and stamping their feet upon the pavement stones to warm them the city clocks had only just gone three but it was quite dark already it had not been light all day and candles were flaring in the windows of the neighboring offices like ruddy smears upon the palpable brown air the fog came pouring in at every [ __ ] and keyhole and was so dense without that although the court was of the narrowest the houses opposite were mere phantoms to see the dinghy cloud come drooping down obscuring everything one might have thought that nature lived hard by and was brewing on a large scale the door of scrooge's counting house was open that he might keep his eye upon his clerk who in a dismal little cell beyond a sort of tank was copying letters scrooge had a very small fire but the clerk's fire was so very much smaller that it looked like one coal but he couldn't replenish it for scrooge kept the coal box in his own room and so surely as the clerk came in with the shovel the master predicted that it would be necessary for them to part wherefore the clerk put on his white comforter and tried to warm himself at the candle in which effort not being a man of a strong imagination he failed a merry christmas uncle god save you cried a cheerful voice it was the voice of scrooge's nephew who came upon him so quickly that this was the first intimation he had of his approachsaid scrooge humbug he had so heated himself with rapid walking in the fog and frost this nephew of scrooges that he was all in a glow his face was ruddy and handsome his eyes sparkled and his breath smoked again christmas a humbug uncle said scrooge's nephew you don't mean that i am sure i do said scrooge merry christmas what right have you to be merry what reason have you to be merry you're poor enough come then return the nephew gaily what right have you to be dismal what reason have you to be morose you're rich enough scrooge having no better answer ready on the spur of the moment said again and followed it up with humbug don't be cross uncle said the nephew what else can i be returned the uncle when i live in such a world of fools as this merry christmas out upon merry christmas what's christmas time to you but a time for paying bills without money a time for finding yourself a year older but not an hour richer a time for balance in your books and having every item in them through around dozen of months presented dead against you if i could work my will said scrooge indignantly every idiot who goes about with merry christmas on his lips should be boiled with his own puddin and buried with a stake of holly through his heart he should uncle pleaded the nephew nephew return the uncle sternly keep christmas in your own way and let me keep it in mind keep it repeated scrooge's nephew but you don't keep it let me leave it alone then said scrooge much good may it do you much good it has ever done you there are many things from which i might have derived good by which i have not profited i dare say return the nephew christmas among the rest but i am sure i have always thought of christmas time when it has come round apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin if anything belonging to it can be apart from that as a good time a kind forgiving charitable pleasant time the only time i know of in the long calendar of the year when men and women seem by one consent to open their shutter parts freely and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys and therefore uncle though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket i believe that it has done me good and will do me good an
