Tonight Boomer, Gio and Phil Simms are doing a chalk talk at Tellers. Gio wants Boomer to stay over his house tonight, but Boomer is not doing that. We talked about Phil Simms' foot and then talked about LeBron's, Ewing's and Shaq's. Gio wants Boomer to ‘Google LeBron's foot'. C-Lo returns for his final update of the day and starts with the Knicks winning in Philly and the Nets getting blown out. Lamar Jackson talked about going into Buffalo to ‘just win'. Aaron Glenn talked about being himself in interviews. Adam Schein is not happy the Bears are interviewing Arthur Smith. Chris McMonigle doesn't like B&G referencing his weight. McMonigle also likes the Wicked soundtrack. The Moment of The Day: ED pill talk. In the final segment of the show, a golf magazine did a profile on Wally Szczerbiak. We talked about AJ Brown reading a book on the sideline last weekend and how he'll probably get a lot of targets this week in a ‘squeaky wheel' spot.
Hour 1 Boomer details the traffic he hit yesterday when he left early for a doctor's appointment. Like, really detailed it. We talked about Mike Tomlin and how Steeler's fans want him gone, while fans of teams in need of a head coach would love him. Boomer said Woody is making the decision on who the Jets head coach will be. Boomer said he feels like the Jets are hiring Aaron Glenn. So once again the Jets look like they're going with a first time head coach. C-Lo is in for Jerry and is here for his first update of the day, but first we talked about that time Gio used off brand ED pills and he ‘locked up' and firefighters had to come help. Gio asks if any of us have tried Viagra. C-Lo has the sounds of the Knicks beating the Sixers in Philadelphia. In the final segment of the hour, Gio got a letter in the mail by someone who doesn't like the ‘subway surfing' that's done in the show open on CBS Sports Network. CBS actually took it out of the open earlier this week. Gio wonders if it's safer on top of the subway or in the subway. Hour 2 We talked about baseball free agency concerning Vlad Guerrero Jr., Pete Alonso and the Mets. We have not seen the flurry of activity we expected from the Mets after the Juan Soto signing. Gio said nobody really cares about pitchers and catchers reporting, they just like that it means better weather is on the way. If there was a draft for months of the year, January and February have to be the 2 last picks. A lawyer calls to say Snapple had a commercial that had to be removed because people were doing dangerous things. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Knicks beating the Sixers in Philadelphia. The Nets suffered their worst loss in franchise history last night to the Clippers. Aaron Glenn was asked how he'd handle offense if he got a head coaching job. Boomer said Glenn would definitely connect with the players like Mike Vrabel does. In the final segment of the hour, the Jets have interviewed so many people for head coach. Gio doesn't think Aaron Glenn is a good fit for the Jets. Hour 3 We talked about TGL golf and Tiger Woods' involvement. Boomer said the product is ‘ok'. Gio seemed to like it more, and said ‘it's fine'. Gio will watch anything golf related. A caller said Thibs has his players on the court for too many minutes a game. Another caller is furious at that narrative. A caller wonders how the cold weather will affect teams in this weekend's divisional playoffs. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Knicks beating the Sixers in Philadelphia. The Nets got hammered by the Clippers in historical fashion. Lamar Jackson talked about getting ‘locked in' for the cold weather. Booger McFarland had some tips for playing in the cold that involved alcohol. Jim Harbaugh has some things to take care of this offseason including his heart and he needs a hip replacement. Drake Maye missed the Mike Vrabel introduction because he was busy getting engaged. In the final segment of the hour, Sports Illustrated put Brianna ‘Chickenfry' from Barstool on the front cover of the swimsuit issue. Gio went over all of the controversies with ‘Chickenfry'. Hour 4 Tonight Boomer, Gio and Phil Simms are doing a chalk talk at Tellers. Gio wants Boomer to stay over his house tonight, but Boomer is not doing that. We talked about Phil Simms' foot and then talked about LeBron's, Ewing's and Shaq's. Gio wants Boomer to ‘Google LeBron's foot'. Rex Ryan said he wouldn't be surprised if the Bills moved on from Sean McDermott in favor of Bill Belichick. We don't see that happening. The Bills had a lot of injuries on defense and they do need another wide receiver. Boomer said the Bills have a good thing going and you can't go to the Super Bowl every season. He needs a number one wide receiver because Stef Diggs isn't it anymore. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with Joel Embiid scoring 70 points last night and Jerry wonders if it's more impressive than Wilt's 100 in his day. Karl Anthony-Towns scored 62 last night as well. Gio heard Marco Balletti on the air and he hasn't been out to dinner in 25 years and wasn't aware that lemon could be in a dessert. He also doesn't like steak. The Penguins scored a goal against themselves. The Moment of The Day involves the Korean broadcast of the Bills missed FG and the Devils radio broadcasters. In the final segment of the show, Boomer and Gio have a ‘chalk talk' at Tellers on Thursday night with Bill Cowher. They are going to be close to Gio's house, maybe they all hang out there. Gio said this time of year it's a petri dish of viruses.
Hour 1 Rex Ryan said he wouldn't be surprised if the Bills fired Sean McDermott and brought in Bill Belichick. This is probably just a hot take by Rex. Boomer would keep McDermott and get some wide receivers for Josh Allen and get back all of the defensive players that got hurt. Allen really likes McDermott, so Boomer said he's not breaking that up. Sources are saying that Arthur Blank wants Bill Belichick in Atlanta, but the front office doesn't want him. Boomer wonders why Belichick wouldn't consider a year off. Maybe the Giants job will be open after next season. Jerry is here for his first update of the day but first Boomer is worried about Jerry because he has a headache. Jerry started with Joel Embiid scoring 70 points last night and Karl Anthony-Towns scoring 62. DeMeco Ryans talked about CJ Stroud's rookie season. Todd Bowles was asked about not taking a timeout late in the game. Ochocinco does not know how to say ‘cognac'. In the final segment of the hour, Ty Law was on with Dan Patrick and said that before Belichick got to New England, players would drink whiskey out of Mike Vrabel's flask. ‘There's some whacky dudes on every team' according to Boomer. Hour 2 Boomer is headed to Baltimore this weekend for a live NFL Today from the AFC Championship game. Boomer said Lamar Jackson is a different guy this year and has enormous confidence. Gio said you have to beat Patrick Mahomes if you are to be taken seriously. The Ravens beat a bunch of winning teams this season. Gio will not go into next football season with any hope for the Giants or Jets. Boomer wonders if the Jets will get a bunch of prime time games again this year. Jerry returns for an update but first Gio said he's a guest on something tonight with Lil Dicky. Gio said there's too many famous people these days. Jerry starts with Matt LaFleur saying Tom Rinaldi took a joke about his kicker seriously and now he has to do damage control. We heard the Korean broadcast of the Bills ‘Wide Right part 2'. They sound like Matt Loughlin and Chico Resch on the Devils calls. Joel Embiid scored 70 points last night. In the final segment of the hour, we heard Gio stumble through a call where he found out he was interviewing a boxer and Boomer found a video of Lil Dicky saying he's a clam or something. We then talked about clams. That's right, clams. Hour 3 People don't seem to be giving the Lions much of a chance against the Niners, though most of the country will be rooting for them. Jared Goff tends to throw interceptions on the road, which leads to them losing games. Boomer said Brock Purdy has improved as the season went on, but he did not look good in a handful of games including against Baltimore. Gio doesn't want the Lions to have success because he's a Vikings fan and they're in the same division. Evan Roberts doesn't want the Lions in the Super Bowl because that's another team that would have gotten over the hump before the Jets. Boomer roots for people, not franchises. He's rooting for Dan Campbell and Jared Goff. Boomer said Kyle Shanahan is ‘a little swarmy'. Gio thinks he looks like an over the hill skateboard guy and someone who would be friends with Spike. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Dan Campbell screaming about knocking off hot teams. John Harbaugh said he's not been distracted and won't be distracted by Taylor Swift. Joel Embiid scored 70 points last night and Karl Anthony-Towns scored 62. In the final segment of the hour, Snoop Dogg said he called Pete Carroll right after he was fired and Pete told him he wanted to coach the Chargers but they didn't want him. Bill Belichick and Kirk Cousins to the Falcons could work. If the Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl, could Taylor Swift go from Tokyo to Vegas and then back to Australia for her shows? Boomer said Travis Kelce needs to propose on the postgame show of the Super Bowl if the Chiefs win. Hour 4 Rex Ryan said he wouldn't be surprised if the Bills moved on from Sean McDermott in favor of Bill Belichick. Day 238 Today's Reading: Jude There's an old saying, “The question is not if we will defend the Christian faith, but how well.” Such a true statement. And today's reading in Jude, though it's only one chapter, comes out swinging with it. Jude tells believers he wants to instruct them about this incredible salvation they enjoy together but then goes into fighter mode: Dearly loved friend, I was fully intending to write to you about our amazing salvation we all participate in, but felt the need instead to challenge you to vigorously defend and contend for the beliefs that we cherish. (TPT) The New American Standard Bible says, “to contend earnestly for the faith.” These are important words for our children and us today as we live in a society where our religion, values, and beliefs are under attack. And we are enjoined by Jude not to sit back while this happens but to contend and defend. Now the big question: how? First, let's deal with what. What kind of culture are we facing? What is the fight we are fighting? Here are two very important words about the culture we live in—relativism and pluralism. Relativism in morals and pluralism in beliefs. What does that mean? Relativism means everyone's truth is equal. Personal preference trumps everything else. We hear phrases like my truth. Subjectivity trumps objective truth, and the individual and their “truth” is exalted over God. Pluralism means all religions are equal, so no one religion stands above another. There is no thought of examining a religion's validity. They are all equal—“whatever works for you.” The enemy is Jesus' words that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Vince Vitale explained our pluralistic and relativistic culture like this: “Imagine being thrown into a game without knowing when it started, when it will finish, what the objective of the game is, or what the rules are. What would you do? You'd probably ask the other players around you to answer those four questions for you. What if they responded with many different answers? Or what if they simply carried on playing, uninterested in your questions? . . . “Next, you look to a coach for help, but what if the coach was standing there, looking at the chaos, and yelling, “Great job, guys! You're all doing great! Keep going! We've got a first-place trophy waiting for all of you!” “Finally, you would turn to the referee or umpire for definitive answers to your questions. But what if the players had gotten frustrated with the referee's calls and sent him home? And now imagine the conversations about the game on the drive home. They would be completely meaningless.” Rules and standards make the game meaningful and objective. But we are not in a game. When we live in a pluralistic culture, this is our reality. No wonder many people struggle to live a meaningful life! According to Vince Vitale, living in a pluralistic society means that we lose the answers to these four crucial questions: • Origin—Where did I come from? • Meaning—Why am I here? • Morality—How should I live? • Destiny—Where am I headed? So how are we to deal with this? I think the greatest way to contend for the faith is by constantly studying the authentic and the real. As Peter Kreeft brilliantly reminds us: “The more important a thing is the more counterfeits there are. There are no counterfeit paperclips or pencils, but plenty of counterfeit religions.” Think about Kreeft's words and the counterfeits that are sold on the streets of major cities. There are no counterfeit Timex watches, but Rolex watches. There are no counterfeit Bic pens but Montblanc pens. There are no counterfeit Target brands on the street, only Gucci, Coach, and Prada. Why? You counterfeit the expensive. And nothing gets counterfeited more than religion. So how do we fight against counterfeits? My wife worked in the banking world for many years. In that world counterfeit money is obviously the enemy. How do they spot counterfeits? When a bank teller is trained, they see nothing but the original 24/7. They become familiar with the markings, the feel, the smells of the real thing. Tellers never see counterfeits. Why? Because when you are familiar with the real thing, the phony is much easier to spot. The same is true for us. We must become familiar with the real thing. The best way to defend the truth, the best way to contend for our faith, is to know the real faith and the truth. Is that enough? Charles Spurgeon said this: “Suppose a number of persons were to take it into their heads that they had to defend a lion. . . . There he is in the cage, and here come all the soldiers of the army to fight for him. Well, I should suggest to them . . . that they should kindly stand back, and open the door, and let the lion out! I believe that would be the best way of defending him, for he would take care of himself. . . . And the best “apology” for the gospel is to let the gospel out. . . . Preach Jesus Christ and him crucified. Let the Lion out, and see who will dare to approach him. The Lion of the tribe of Judah will soon drive away his adversaries.” God can defend Himself. So let us present the self-revealed God as He revealed Himself—not the twenty-first-century God, but the eternal, never-changing God.

The Giants finally play again tonight and if they lose it is going to be the fault of the defense. Gio expects Daniel Jones to have huge numbers tonight. Both QBs should be able to move the ball up and down the field. The Giants don't have much of a pass rusher and have a young secondary. That's not a great combo. Could the Giants beat the Niners or Cowboys in the playoffs? And that right there is the problem. This is going to be a high scoring and close game in the fourth quarter. The Giants have to win this game because of their schedule after this. Imagine the Dolphins offense against this Giants defense? Joe Benigno behaved himself except for one time when he yelled ‘the Jets suck' from the Winters Brothers seats. Jerry returns for his final update of the day but first Gio said Sayville beat East Islip so Boomer owes him a dinner at Tellers. Rob Saleh talked about Zach Wilson's performance. Zach was very hard on himself after the game for the fumbled snap. Sauce Gardner talked about the crap holding call the refs nailed him for. Bill Belichick talked about taking Mac Jones out. Daniel Jones talked about the urgency for tonight's game. Darius Slayton is not calling it a must win. Phil Simms was at Dick's badmouthing Boomer for making fun of his lady glasses. Buck SHOWALTER was let go by the Mets but the fans and players showed their appreciation on the field. Aaron Judge talked about the team not playing with urgency. Former MLB pitcher Tim Wakefield passed away from an aggressive form of cancer. Boomer played golf with him in June. The Moment of The Day involves a Rams player with a very hard name to pronounce. In the final segment of the hour, Zach Wilson played really well except for the fumble and Boomer is sure it kept him up all night. Hopefully that didn't hurt his confidence as he made a lot of really good throws.
Hour 1 The Jets lost to the Chiefs last night 23-20 but Zach Wilson looked like an NFL quarterback. Boomer said this is what the Jets have been seeing in practice. Zach did have a crucial fumble and he blamed himself for the loss after the game. There was a terrible holding call on Sauce Gardner that should not have been a penalty. Boomer was shocked by the amount of Chiefs fans in the building. The Jets travel to Denver next week in a game they can win. Gio thought it was key how Zach Wilson didn't quit down 17-0. Patrick MAHOMES was terrible last night and looked like Josh Allen in the Jets week 1 win. Gio thinks the Jets season changed last night after Zach's performance. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with the Zach Wilson fumble. Rob Saleh talked about Zach's performance. Sauce Gardner talked about the penalty called on him and when they decided to throw the flag. Jerry went around the NFL from yesterday afternoon. What is going on with the Bengals and Joe Burrow? Baker Mayfield is off to a better start as a Buc than Tom Brady was. Buck SHOWALTER was fired by the Mets. Gio thought they did him dirty with the way they let him go. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer introduces the ‘Man Bucket'. Hour 2 Zach Wilson definitely played much better but did have a crucial fumble in the game. They play in Denver next week and they have to win that one if they are going to have a real season. Zach did bring them back down 17-0. Aaron RODGERS said he is go ing to play this season. Do you really want him back this year? Boomer wants him back next year when he's 100% healthy. NBC was giving Taylor Swift free commercials for her concert movie. Jerry returns for an update and has play by play from last night's Jets loss and post game sound from Zach Wilson and Rob Saleh. Cris Collinsworth was really feeling Zach last night. We also previewed the Giants/Seahawks game for tonight. In the final segment of the hour, Gio was at West Point for a charity golf tournament for Army baseball. It was also a bizarre weekend at the Ryder Cup. Hour 3 Zach Wilson outplayed Patrick MAHOMES in every category and the Jets still lost. Boomer is hoping Aaron RODGERS goes to all the away games starting this week in Denver. He is definitely having an effect on the team. Boomer said Zach did a great job at reading defenses last night. He had a number of perfect throws in the game. Boomer expects a high scoring game tonight between the Giants and Seahawks. Daniel Jones is known for not playing well in prime time and it's become a thing. Gio said it's over for Bill BELICHICK. His team is no good and both Buffalo and Miami will dominate them for years. Jerry returns for an update but first Boomer said he has not had a full weekend off in the Fall since 1978. Jerry starts with some of the bad calls in last night's Jets/Chiefs game. Zach talked about having Aaron RODGERS at the game. The Jets had a lot of opportunities but did not capitalize. Jerry went around the NFL from yesterday. Bill BELICHICK was not pleased after the Patriots' loss to the Cowboys. Jamal Adams is excited to play at MetLife Stadium tonight. Buck SHOWALTER was let go by the Mets. Gio wants crazy Gabe Kaplar as Manager just for the entertainment. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the Bills beat down of the Dolphins. It was a ‘statement game spot' according to Gio. Hour 4 The Giants finally play again tonight and if they lose it is going to be the fault of the defense. Gio expects Daniel Jones to have huge numbers tonight. Both QBs should be able to move the ball up and down the field. The Giants don't have much of a pass rusher and have a young secondary. If you've ever visited a place where you don't speak the language, having a reliable interpreter is a lifesaver. You need someone to translate what's being said into words you can understand. But everyone's who's gotten a message through an interpreter has also wondered, “Is that really what the other person said?” Trusting someone to translate takes a lot of faith—because what if they get it wrong? Then their mistake becomes your mistake. And what if they're translating for God? Ever had someone tell you what God wants you to do and wondered, “How would they know?” How do you tell the difference between someone pushing their own agenda and someone trying to help you hear God's voice for yourself? If you're new with us, or looking to take a next step, or even to let us know how we can be praying for you, we invite you to fill out an online Connect Card by texting "WHATSNEXT" to 94000 or visit https://southhillschurch.churchcenter.com/people/forms/113913—To give with us select the Give tab on the Church Center App or visit www.southhills.org/give and select the Corona Fund or Corona BOW Fund—Visit our Linktree to find out more about everything mentioned in today's message or follow along with the message slides:https://linktr.ee/SouthHillsCorona —To RSVP for On-Campus Events select the Events tab on the Church Center App or visit https://southhills.org/corona/

In the winter and spring of 1927, record-setting rain fell across the central United States. The Mississippi River swelled to capacity, and by April, the water breached major levees. It was the start of the most catastrophic river flood in American history. When the flood threatened the town of Greenville in the Mississippi Delta, white plantation owners pulled tens of thousands of Black workers from the cotton fields and sent them to the river. An army of hundreds of men worked day and night, piling sandbags to battle the raging waters. But soon, despite their efforts, the Great Mississippi Flood would unleash destruction on the Delta.Listen ad free with Wondery+. For Alice Paul and other leading white suffragists, image was important. They published their own newspapers and staged dramatic public protests to gain press attention and shape public opinion. But all too often, white suffrage activists refused to make room for Black allies in their idealized image of a woman voter. In this episode, Lindsay speaks with Dr. Allison Lange, a historian who focuses on the intersection of gender and power, and how visual imagery shaped the battle for women's suffrage. They'll discuss the way images were used both for and against suffrage, and how there are echoes of the suffragist's strategies in the way female politicians present themselves today. In March 1913, thousands of suffrage activists converged on Washington, D.C. for a new form of protest. They were going to march down Pennsylvania Avenue to demand an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, guaranteeing women the right to vote. Their leader, Alice Paul, was a young rising star in the movement. Her dramatic protests outside the White House would grab headlines across America. But they would also spark fierce and sometimes violent resistance.Listen ad free with Wondery+. Join Wondery+ for exclusives, binges, early access, and ad free listening. As the 20th century dawned, a new generation of women rose to take control of the suffrage cause. These young activists were going to college, delaying marriage, and pursuing careers. Their political savvy helped the movement win victories at the state level in the West. But new leaders like Carrie Chapman Catt also shunned Black activists. Facing discrimination within their own movement, Black suffrage leaders like Ida B. Wells forged their own path, fighting racism and sexism on their own terms.Listen ad free with Wondery+. On Election Day 1872, Susan B. Anthony walked into a polling place in Rochester, New York and boldly cast her ballot. Her action was an escalation in women's fight for the vote. Days later, she was arrested for voting illegally. It was all part of a daring new strategy for suffrage called the “New Departure.” At first, the strategy found a charismatic champion in a new women's rights advocate, Victoria Woodhull. But Woodhull's penchant for controversy would soon jeopardize the entire suffrage cause.Listen ad free with Wondery+. Join Wondery+ for exclusives, binges, early access, and ad free listening.
