Podcast by Earth Kingdom Radio
WE DID IT! We forced Kelly to watch Avatar the Last Airbender and got to say we told her so! Many, many months later, the Earth Kingdom Radio hosts gather together to reflect on the experience, and turn their attention toward the future and...Legend of Korra!
Remember that time, like, a year ago when Mike, JJ, and Kelly watched the Avatar movie and wished they hadn't? WELL it's you're lucky day! We finally overcame our tech issues and we're here to entertain you with our outrage. Oh, and yes, we're coming back to year ears in 2019 when Earth Kingdom Radio returns to watch The Legend of Korra!
And we're done. Mike, JJ. and Kelly get together for an epic, three-hour conversation about the series finale. From the astonishingly great to the...lion turtles. So! Get comfortable, grab some tissues, pour a drink, and let's do this. Earth Kingdom Radio isn't over just yet! We've got plans to do a post-mortem on the show, and discuss the dreadful movie, as well as move forward to Legend of Korra. This is goodnight, not goodbye.
CRUEL TO BE KIND In the penultimate episode of Earth Kingdom Radio, JJ, Mike, and Kelly discuss The Southern Raiders and the Ember Island Players, and Kelly's uncomfortable identification with Katara soars to new, unbearably embarrassing heights.
YAAAAAS QUEEN! So sorry for the late upload, but it's all good because SUKI'S BACK AND ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD. Are you as excited as Kelly is? (Doubtful).
LET THE FIREBENDING BEGIN! Kelly, Mike, and JJ are back to discuss The Western Air Temple and The Firebending Masters. These episodes give us almost everything we've ever wanted: namely, Zuko teaming up with Aang! It's finally time for Aang to learn to firebending. And what better way to learn than to go straight to the source?
YES, ZUKO. FINALLY. Kelly, JJ, and Mike get to discuss some epic episodes this week as they break down Nightmares and Daydreams, and The Day of Black Sun: Parts 1 & 2. There's a lot to love, including animation references to famous anime properties, touching moments between Sokka and his father, and brilliantly devious moments from Azula. But the BEST part of these episodes is Zuko's confrontation with his father. Get ready for Kelly's shrieks of joy!
NNNNNNNNOPE! This week Kelly, JJ, and Mike discuss The Runaway and The Puppet Master, and over the course of these two episodes water-bending is brought to its inevitable, horrifying conclusion. There is no going back from this point on! Kelly has all kinds of predictions about how blood-bending will come back around in the remainder of the season (are any of them even remotely on track?).
UNPOPULAR OPINIONS. Kelly, JJ, and Mike discuss The Beach and The Avatar and the Firelord at great length (sorry!) and Kelly is full of unpopular opinions about the John Hughes-i-est of ATLA episodes.
FUN WITH FILLER. Mike, Kelly, and JJ discuss The Painted Lady and Sokka's Master this week. Two filler episodes with varying levels of success. Kelly is once again hindered by her uncomfortable identification with Katara, and the gang all agrees that Sokka is the best.
KELLY HATES CHANGE. Mike, JJ, and Kelly are back again to talk about the season three opener. Change makes Kelly supremely uncomfortable so get ready to cackle at her resistance.
COOL BENDING AND BAD DECISIONS. JJ, Mike, and Kelly are BACK after almost 4 months of technical difficulties. We're so, so sorry about the wait. Hopefully our outrage and emotional devastation are reward enough for your patience. Let's close out season two!
Back after an unintended hiatus, JJ, Mike, and Kelly are here to discuss Lake Laogai and The Earth King! Brain washing! Regular old non-hybrid bears! And the most ill-advised split up in the history of fiction.
This week Mike, Kelly, and JJ discuss City of Walls & Secrets, Tales of Ba Sing Se, & Appa's Lost Days. A trifecta of horror and unbearable sadness, basically. BUT in a bizarre turn of events, Kelly didn't cry nearly as much as anticipated.
JJ and Mike try to prepare Kelly for how much crying she's going to do next episode. (This may be a classic case of raising expectations too high).
Mike, Kelly, and JJ are back this week to talk about two episodes: The Serpent's Pass and the Drill! Plenty of phallic imagery for everyone! Jet is back and he's still the worst! And Kelly accidentally watched ahead, which she swore she'd never do.
Mike, JJ, and Kelly discuss The Library and the Desert in this week's podcast, and have a lot of sads about Appa and laughs about Sokka. Also included is the story of the first time Kelly ever got drunk! Our apologies for some very terrible audio quality midway through the episode. There's about a minute worth of garbled sound due to mic issues, but the sound quality returns shortly afterward! Thanks for sticking with us!
Kelly, Mike, and JJ talk about The Chase and Bitter Work today. Toph is the greatest and this contrived storyline is beneath her. But for one shining moment Team Avatar and Zuko and Iroh are all on the same side!
Mike, JJ, and Kelly have a LOT to talk about in today's extra-long episode that covers Avatar Day, The Blind Bandit, and Zuko Alone. Toph!!! Also the subversion of toxic masculinity, outrageously shitty parenting, and Kelly stans for Zuko forever and always.
Mike, JJ, and Kelly talk about Return to Omashu and The Swamp and are across the board delighted by the arrival of Mai and Ty Lee. Also, plant-bending is a thing...apparently.
KELLY'S FIREBENDING CRISIS. Drink up my friends, because Kelly, JJ, and Mike are now starting Season 2 of Avatar which sparks the debate that will carry on throughout the rest of the podcast: Does it make sense that the show groups lightning under the firebending umbrella? Kelly alone is a hard no, and nothing JJ and Mike say can change her mind.
MOAR SPOILERS!
Kelly, Mike, and JJ reach the end of Season One and discuss The Waterbending Master, and The Siege of the North Parts I & II. WE HAVE REACHED THE NORTHERN WATER TRIBE AT LAST. FINALLY. THAT TOOK A REALLY LONG TIME, GUYS.
Better late than never! JJ and Mike secretly discuss spoilers for EKPHC Episode 4!
Episode Five: EVERYONE IS OUT OF CHARACTER We continue to plow through as much of season one as we can to get to the good stuff. Today Kelly, Mike, and JJ discuss The Fortuneteller, Bato of the Water Tribe, The Deserter, and The Northern Air Temple. Kelly hears the siren call of Zutara, and the group is convinced that Bato of the Water Tribe might be the worst episode of season one.
Mike, JJ, and Kelly power through four episodes this week: Jet, The Great Divide, The Storm, and The Blue Spirit. The trio rage about how much Jet (the character) sucks, and how much The Great Divide (the episode) sucks, so come for the eye-rolling but definitely stay for the heart-eyes as Kelly finally gets Zuko's backstory and falls head over heels in love.
Spoilers for Episode 3! A little late, but here it is for your listening enjoyment.
This week JJ, Mike, and Kelly discuss The Spirit World, Avatar Roku, and The Waterbending Scroll. The plot picks up at last, but the main event of this episode is Kelly's deeply uncomfortable realization that she and Katara are the same person. Drink every time Kelly mispronounces Hei Bai! (Wait, don't do that. You'll die).
JJ, Mike, and Kelly discuss a whopping four episodes this week: The Southern Air Temple, The Warriors of Kyoshi, The King of Omashu, and Imprisoned. This marks the first (though not last) time Kelly falls asleep while watching ATLA, but it also introduces the first character she falls in love with wholeheartedly. Also, JJ calls Ron Weasley a fuccboi, officially making good on their explicit rating.
Mike and JJ have their own little spoiler corner where they can talk about Kelly without her knowledge.
Where were you when the Fire Nation attacked? (And…why did the Fire Nation attack, anyway?) JJ and Mike have tried to get Kelly to watch Avatar for years without success—until now. Today they discuss the first two episodes of the series: The Boy in the Iceberg and The Avatar Returns. Will Kelly be won over by this charming children’s show, or was she right to avoid Avatar all along?
