Spoiler Alert: Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, and the Avatar comic books. We get back into the swing of making bonus content with Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. And this time with a guest. Welcome to the podcast, JP!We all like nostalgia movie sequels made years after the fact right? Tron Legacy, The Matrix 4, Jurassic world. It's always a good move. Haven't we all asked ourselves what Aang and the gang have been up to in their early 20s? Katara and Aang building republic city, Toph training some randos metal-bending, Sokka inventing a weird bike, and Zuko being the firelord or whatever. Just like we all pictured. The only thing we need now is a hot sixth guy who maybe holds the key to Aang's heritage. That would be perfect, just as long as he isn't secretly evil…

This week on Science Faction, life milestones collide with pop culture as Ben celebrates finally paying off over two decades of student loans while Devon contemplates a lifetime of payments. The crew also dives into Star Trek, Mothership, San Diego Comic-Con reveals, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Cowboy Bebop, and an unexpectedly deep rabbit hole exploring the technology behind the original Jurassic Park. As always, it's a mix of real life, science fiction, and everything wonderfully nerdy in between. Real Life Ben reached a major milestone this week by finally paying off his student loans after 21 years. It's the kind of accomplishment that deserves a celebration, especially considering how many people are still carrying student debt decades after graduating. Devon balanced out the optimism by joking that he's probably never going to finish paying his off. Steven has been spending time with Mothership: Wages of Sin, another adventure for the acclaimed sci-fi horror RPG. If you're interested in checking it out, you can find it here: https://www.tuesdayknightgames.com/collections/mothership Ben also finds himself in an unfamiliar situation: waiting on absolutely nothing. Instead, he talked about his latest favorite gadget, the Clicks Keyboard for smartphones: https://www.clicks.tech/powerkeyboard The Star Trek discussion continued with Star Trek: Axanar – The Gathering Storm, where Faran Tahir's appearance was a welcome surprise. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFpTiIHNTJ0&pp=ygUGYXhhbmFy That naturally led into Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4's episode Valles Marineris, which managed to answer the timeless question: What if Star Trek had dinosaurs? The crew discusses whether that's exactly what Trek needed—or never knew it needed. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Valles_Marineris_(episode) Future or Now San Diego Comic-Con brought plenty of announcements to unpack, including new reveals surrounding Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Jean-Pool, and the surprise pairing of Ghost Rider and Starfighter. Ryan Reynolds continues to find creative ways to keep Deadpool in the spotlight. https://entertainmentnow.com/marvel-studios-movies-comics/ryan-reynolds-sdcc-deadpool/ Ben also rounds up several pieces of Avatar: The Last Airbender news, including the upcoming animated Aang film and the newly announced sequel series, Avatar: Seven Havens. https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/avatar-aang-the-last-airbender-in-theaters https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/avatar-seven-havens-release-date-revealed After finally finishing the original Cowboy Bebop anime and its movie, Ben shares his thoughts on why the series has remained such a classic for nearly three decades. The conversation then shifts into one of the nerdiest rabbit holes imaginable: a painstaking technical breakdown of every computer seen in the original Jurassic Park. It's a fascinating look at how the filmmakers blended real hardware with Hollywood magic. https://fabiensanglard.net/jurrasic_park_computers/index.html That naturally prompts Devon to shout, "SAM NEILL DIED! LET'S TALK ABOUT IT!" before everyone remembers they're actually talking about his characters. The discussion quickly turns into a debate over Sam Neill's best science fiction performance. Is it the cosmic horror masterpiece Event Horizon (1997), or the vampire thriller Daybreakers (2009)? To wrap things up, the crew also highlights Jurassic Systems, a fan project dedicated to faithfully recreating the iconic computer interfaces from Jurassic Park. https://www.jurassicsystems.com/ As always, expect plenty of tangents, questionable opinions, and passionate debates about dinosaurs, spaceships, anime, and why fictional operating systems from 1993 still look cooler than the ones we use today.
Avatar Studios’ first movie is finally here! 11 years since the last Avatar animated content, the From the Sprit World crew is back to discuss the big new Aang movie, “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender”. We talk about Aang’s arc, the Adult Gaang, Tagah, and much more. Note: this was recorded on June 5th 2026 discussing the leaked copy of the film. Several of us wanted to watch early to avoid spoilers and didn’t want to wait months to discuss, and now it’s released for all to listen to! Please watch the official release on Paramount+ to support future Avatar Studios works! Since we recorded this the release date of the film was moved up to July 25th. Also, Mike and Bryan said Aang is 25 in the film, we were unsure of his exact age at time of recording. At SDCC they confirmed Katara was pregnant in earlier versions of the movie. 400 Moo Deng Neil the Seal Comic Con Doug Brode Shelli InterviewDoom Scrolling IntroThe Foos made it to 400 episodes. Joe and Steph celebrate with VMC cocktails, reflect on 8 years of The Foobar Show, and explain why some older episodes have disappeared from platforms over time. No huge blowout, no fake promises — just 400 episodes, a toast, and the usual chaos. The animal kingdom takes over the top of the show: Moo Deng officially turns 2, proving that the internet's favorite pygmy hippo is still the queen of slippery rage, bouncy pork energy, and conservation awareness. Then Neil the Seal finally takes his 2,200-pound chaotic ass back into the ocean after weeks of lounging around Tasmania, blocking roads, flattening signs, and refusing to respect anything vertical.Joe and Steph also explain why the podcast has been spotty lately: life, work, band stuff, Steph's Sunday schedule, and the massive backyard facelift happening because Steph volunteered the house for her brother's baby shower. There's also some Medieval Times talk because sometimes you just need dinner, jousting, horses, and giant beer steins.Geeking Out starts with San Diego Comic-Con: they didn't get badges, of course, but there's still plenty happening outside the convention — themed cafes, Paramount at the Lodge, Hello Kitty, Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes, Star Trek experiences, and all the badge-free chaos that makes downtown San Diego worth visiting during Comic-Con week. They also hit LA Comic Con tickets going on sale, with the convention returning October 30 through November 1 and guests already including Aaron Paul, Dean Norris, and performers from K-Pop Demon Hunters. Then it's long-awaited movie news: Legend of the White Dragon finally has a release date. The Jason David Frank-led, Power Rangers-adjacent action movie arrives August 28, and the Foos have been waiting years for this one.Avatar fans get love too: Aang: The Last Airbender is coming to Paramount+ on July 25 as a movie featuring an older Aang and the gang trying to save the world again. Joe and Steph revisit why the original Avatar series still holds up as one of the best animated shows ever made — adult themes, perfect pacing, emotional stakes, and Appa trauma included.Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey also enters the chat, with Matt Damon as Odysseus and a massive cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal. Practical ships, real locations, giant crowds, IMAX cameras, Greek mythology, and enough complicated storytelling to make Nolan feel right at home. The big feature this week is an interview with returning guest Doug Brode, storyboard/concept artist and author of the Ship saga and the Shelli synthetic crime series. Doug talks about Shelli: R-Evolution, why it is not actually the final Shelli book, how the series has grown, the challenge of writing sequels that stand alone, AI and synthetics, keeping villains understandable, writing in silence, short chapters, and why Shelli's world keeps expanding. He also shares that the first Shelli book is getting a 99-cent Kindle BookBub deal starting July 15.
Editor – Payton Koch For Avatar: The Last Airbender editor Payton Koch, this job offered a very different kind of editorial challenge from his Emmy-nominated work on Only Murders in the Building. The series has to move between large-scale action, visual effects, martial arts, comedy, mythology and coming-of-age drama, often within the same sequence. It also has to satisfy a fanbase that knows this world extremely well while still making the story accessible to viewers coming to it for the first time. Based on the Nickelodeon series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: The Last Airbender is set in a world divided into four nations — Water, Earth, Fire and Air — where certain people can "bend," or control, one of those elements. At the center of the story is Aang, the last surviving Air Nomad and the next Avatar, the one person capable of mastering all four elements and restoring balance to a world at war. Season Two takes Aang, Katara and Sokka deeper into the Earth Kingdom as they search for an earthbending teacher and make their way toward Ba Sing Se, the massive, heavily fortified capital of the Earth Kingdom. Along the way, the series expands its world with new allies, new enemies and a larger sense of the political and emotional cost of the Fire Nation's war. PAYTON KOCH Payton Koch is an Emmy-nominated picture editor with a diverse range of post-production credits on popular television series, including American Horror Story, Ratched and Only Murders in the Building. His work on the Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building earned him multiple ACE Eddie Award nominations, as well as his first Primetime Emmy nomination in 2024. His additional credits include American Crime Story, The Politician, Home Before Dark, Just Beyond and The Boys in the Band. Visit ExtremeMusic for all your production audio needs. Abby leads our conversation about S03E19: Sozin's Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters, where we reflect on the extent of Aang's struggle, the feasibility of a 16-year-old running a nation - especially one going through a regime change - and cry over Zuko and Iroh's reunion. This episode was recorded on October 17, 2021. This episode was edited by Nic.
It's the beginning of the end as Steph hosts our discussion on S03E18: Sozin's Comet, Part 1: The Phoenix King. In this jam-packed episode, we talk about the importance of communication, the definition of justice, what leadership changes actually mean to the people at the bottom, and question whether Aang was ever really there at all. This episode was recorded on October 10, 2021. This episode was edited by Nic.
Welcome back to another wild episode of the Jungle Squad Cast! We are celebrating a massive reunion today as a fan-favorite host returns after a two-year hiatus to bring the heat, the pizza, and some serious gym gains. This episode is raw, unfiltered, and packed with the high-energy debates you have been waiting for. In episode 144, Ape Loso, Rad and Rahh are joined by the one and only Thalia aka Big Dawg T. We dive deep into where she has been, her journey through the gym, and the mental growth she experienced while away from the spotlight. The squad breaks down the latest music drops, including Bossman Dlow's new project and the trend of 90-second songs. We also give our honest, controversial takes on Conway the Machine and discuss why Chris Brown continues to dominate the summer vibes despite his past. The conversation gets nostalgic as we reminisce about classic Nickelodeon and Disney shows like Kenan and Kel and The Romeo Show. Things take a serious turn when we debate the leaked Avatar content and the age-old question of whether Aang or Korra would win in a fight. Finally, we get into the nitty-gritty of relationships, discussing the "order of operations" during an argument, sex compatibility tests, and how to know when it is officially time to walk away from a partner. Bootleg copies of the new unreleased ATLA movie are already flooding eBay -- yeah after the full Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender leaked online in April, bootleggers jumped on it faster than Appa on a sky bison buffet and are now hawking burned discs, USB drives, and shady digital links for $15–$50 a pop with fake Paramount+ covers slapped on. The aged-up Gaang, new voice cast, and Dave Bautista villain teases are all there in crystal clear rips while the official Paramount+ drop is still months away -- classic move of turning a massive studio screw-up into quick cash before anyone can watch it legally. Did they just break one of the most important parts of Avatar lore? In this episode of Absolute Geek, we dive deep into the latest Avatar project and break down what works… and what really doesn't. From a nerfed Avatar State to questionable power scaling, this version of Aang feels very different from what fans remember—and not in a good way. We're talking about how this compares to Avatar: The Last Airbender, where the Avatar State was the ultimate trump card, versus what we're seeing now—and why it just doesn't hit the same. We also touch on similarities to The Legend of Korra and whether those same storytelling issues are showing up again.

This Aang movie leak is straight-up chaos -- the full Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender animated feature from Avatar Studios got "accidentally" emailed to some random X user who then dumped clips online showing adult Aang and the Gaang with brand-new voice actors, fresh animation that actually looks killer, and plot teases including Dave Bautista and Taika Waititi cameos, all months before the October Paramount+ premiere. Yeah Nickelodeon or Paramount's security is apparently Swiss cheese because now the near-finished draft is everywhere online while fans are mainlining spoilers and the studio's scrambling to play whack-a-mole -- nothing like finally getting the Avatar sequel only for it to get pirated before the trailer even drops.
