What if the most effective strategy for leading change isn't fear-based urgency, but love? In this episode, Kevin sits down with Mohammad Anwar to explore a rethinking of how leaders can approach change by centering people, building trust, and creating psychological safety. Together, Kevin and Mohammad discuss why traditional change management approaches fail, how fear activates resistance, and why prioritizing emotional intelligence and human connection leads to sustainable transformation. They dive into six behavioral principles that underpin "love as a change strategy," including embracing discomfort, practicing empathetic curiosity, and wielding influence effectively. Mohammad also challenges conventional models like Maslow's hierarchy, advocating instead for love and belonging as the true foundation of human needs. Sleep breaks down, pain turns constant, and the mind keeps running like it never got the memo that the mission is over. This conversation follows what it looks like to claw your way back when the body is hurting, the nights are loud, and isolation starts to feel normal. Rowdie McMahon shares her experience as an Air Force nurse deployed to Afghanistan, including the relentless pace and mass casualty reality, and how that pressure followed her home. She opens up about chronic pain, years on heavy medications, and the slow work of tapering off while staying engaged with mental health support. From there, the story shifts to what finally helped: Wounded Warrior Project programs, small steps back into community, and a surprising turning point through racing, building cars with other veterans, and putting 988 and the Veterans Crisis Line on the car as part of the mission. If you've ever trusted an airline, packed food “for later,” or believed a groundhog — this funny comedy podcast is here to hurt you.The Rizzuto Show comedy kicks off February already in shambles after a three-day weekend absolutely wrecks the studio's muscle memory. Punxsutawney Phil emerges, sees his shadow (allegedly), and condemns us all to six more weeks of winter while the crew debates whether anyone actually knows how Groundhog Day works. Then Rafe Williams recounts one of the most cursed travel weekends imaginable: stranded airports, nonstop delays, pilots who clearly should not be making small talk, and a Five Guys order forgotten in a backpack that slowly transforms into a greasy war crime mid-flight. Things escalate when the plane heats up like a sauna, passengers start passing out, and the smell of fries becomes a supporting character. The crew also breaks down the new Real ID situation — including the $45 TSA “Confirm ID” fee that feels suspiciously like a cover charge to exist — and debates whether complying with the government is worth it or if Rafe should fully commit to sovereign citizen energy. Along the way, flight attendants are praised as saints, airlines are ranked (American Airlines finishes exactly where you think), and a Boeing 777 toilet failure story pushes everyone to their emotional limit.Add in Rizz Show Night at the Blues game, Lern losing her car, and Lern discovering she somehow looks like Warwick Davis and Brianna Chickenfry in the same weekend, and you've got a funny podcast that spirals exactly the way it should. It's airline chaos, pop culture confusion, and daily comedy from start to finish — just another normal day on The Rizzuto Show.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshowConnect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MOSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Andrea Samadi revisits a conversation with neuroscientist Dr. Baland Jalal about how curiosity launched his career and how transitional sleep states fuel creativity. The episode explores sleep paralysis research and the hypnagogic window—the moments before sleep and after waking when the brain makes unexpected connections. This week, Episode 384—based on our review of Episode 224, recorded in June 2022—we'll explore: ✔ Why learning, creativity, and curiosity depend on a regulated nervous system ✔ How sleep—especially REM—creates the conditions for insight and problem-solving ✔ What happens in the brain when focus shuts down and imagination turns on ✔ Why safety, rhythm, and rest are prerequisites for learning—not rewards after it ✔ How understanding sleep changes the way we approach performance, education, and growth Listeners learn practical tips for capturing insights at the edge of sleep, setting intentions before bed, and protecting morning silence to preserve creative flashes. The episode emphasizes that learning and creativity emerge best when the nervous system feels safe and regulated. This episode launches Season 15's Phase 1 focus on regulation and safety, framing sleep, rhythm, and emotional regulation as the essential foundation for motivation, learning, and sustained performance. Welcome back to Season 15 of the Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast. I'm Andrea Samadi, and here we bridge the science behind social and emotional learning, emotional intelligence, and practical neuroscience—so you can create measurable improvements in well-being, achievement, productivity, and results. When we launched this podcast seven years ago, it was driven by a question I had never been taught to ask— not in school, not in business, and not in life: If results matter—and they matter now more than ever—how exactly are we using our brain to make these results happen? Most of us were taught what to do. Very few of us were taught how to think under pressure, how to regulate emotion, how to sustain motivation, or even how to produce consistent results without burning out. That question led me into a deep exploration of the mind–brain–results connection—and how neuroscience applies to everyday decisions, conversations, and performance. That's why this podcast exists. Each week, we bring you leading experts to break down complex science and translate it into practical strategies you can apply immediately. If you've been with us through Season 14, you may have felt something shift. That season wasn't about collecting ideas. It was about integrating these ideas into our daily life. Across conversations on neuroscience, social and emotional learning, sleep, stress, exercise, nutrition, and mindset frameworks—from voices like Bob Proctor, José Silva, Dr. Church, Dr. John Medina, and others—one thing became clear: These aren't separate tools. They're parts of one operating system. When the brain, body, and emotions are aligned, performance stops feeling forced—and starts to feel sustainable. Season 14 showed us what alignment looks like in real life. And now we move into Season 15 that is about understanding how that alignment is built—so we can build it ourselves, using predictable, science-backed principles. Because alignment doesn't happen all at once. It happens by using a sequence. By repeating this sequence over and over again, until magically (or predictably) we notice our results have changed. So this season, we're revisiting past conversations—not to repeat them—but to understand how they fit together, so we can replicate them ourselves. Because the brain doesn't develop skills in isolation. Learning doesn't happen in isolation. And neither does performance, resilience, or well-being. The brain operates as a set of interconnected systems. When one system is out of balance, everything else is affected. So Season 15 we've organized as a review roadmap, where each episode explores one foundational brain system—and each phase builds on the one before it. Season 15 Roadmap: Phase 1 — Regulation & Safety Phase 2 — Neurochemistry & Motivation Phase 3 — Movement, Learning & Cognition Phase 4 — Perception, Emotion & Social Intelligence Phase 5 — Integration, Insight & Meaning Today we begin with Phase One: Regulation and Safety. Because before learning can happen, before curiosity can emerge, before motivation or growth is possible— the brain must feel safe. That's where we are today as we embark on this journey together. I encourage us all to take notes, and apply what each phase is encouraging us to do. This is not just for you, the listener, I'm going right back myself, and revisiting each interview with a new lens. PHASE 1: REGULATION & SAFETY Staples: Sleep + Stress Regulation Core Question: Is the nervous system safe enough to learn? Anchor Episodes Episode 384 — Baland Jalal How learning begins: curiosity, sleep, imagination, creativity Bruce Perry “What happened to you?” — trauma, rhythm, relational safety Sui Wong Autonomic balance, lifestyle medicine, brain resilience Rohan Dixit HRV, real-time self-regulation, nervous system literacy EPISODE 384 — REVIEW OF EP 224 (JUNE 2022) Revisiting Our Interview with Baland Jalal Today's Episode 384 we go back to Episode 224[i], recorded in June 2022, featuring Danish neuroscientist Dr. Baland Jalal—a researcher, author, and one of the world's leading experts on sleep paralysis. Dr. Jalal is a neuroscientist affiliated with Harvard University's Department of Psychology and was previously a Visiting Researcher at Cambridge University Medical School, where he earned his PhD. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, BBC, NBC News, The Guardian, Forbes, Reuters, PBS (NOVA), and many others. He also writes for TIME Magazine, Scientific American, Big Think, and The Boston Globe. Since our original interview, I've watched Dr. Jalal's influence expand globally. Most recently, he appeared on Jordan B. Peterson's podcast[ii], discussing Dreams, Nightmares, and Neuroscience, and on Lewis Howes' School of Greatness[iii], where he explored Dreams, Lucid Dreaming, and the Neuroscience of Consciousness—an episode that truly stretched Lewis's thinking. What stood out to me most—then and now—was Dr. Jalal's transparency about learning. At the beginning of his interview with Lewis Howes, Dr. Jalal shared how a single experience—his desire to understand his own episodes of sleep paralysis more than 20 years ago—sparked a lifelong curiosity. That curiosity led him to his local library in Copenhagen and ultimately transformed his entire career path in ways he could never have imagined as a young man spending time on the streets. That honesty resonated deeply with me. Before Google, I remember sitting in a local library in Arizona around that same time, trying to understand the mysteries of the world—from the Great Pyramid of Giza to Stonehenge—reading everything I could get my hands on. Like Dr. Jalal, I was curious about many things I didn't understand, but my path didn't start with neuroscience or learning science, which came later for me. We all begin somewhere. Let's go to our first clip from Dr. Baland Jalal, where he shares how his love of learning truly began.

In this episode, Cliff joins Russ and Joey to share his journey from Wall Street investment banking to building, scaling, and exiting multiple franchise businesses.Drawing from decades of experience, Cliff explains why most people fail in franchising, not because the model is broken, but because they skip proper valuation, due diligence, and execution. Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here! In this week's episode we explore two very real technologies which are just now getting off the ground and promise to completely change not just how we think about life and death itself, but what it means to be human. In the free side of the show we discuss what happens when we turn our dead grandma into a digital avatar we can keep on our phone forever and how this technology will be used to sabotage phone scammers. In the second half of the show we discuss the reality of night-vision eyes, breathing under water, re-growing limbs and Neurolink implants. The Rizzuto Show crew dives into some of the weirdest conspiracy theories people believe — from the Titanic being an insurance scam to Stevie Wonder “not actually being blind,” Avril Lavigne being replaced by a clone, Mattress Firm laundering money through identical strip malls, and Jay-Z possibly being a time-traveling vampire. None of it makes sense. All of it is discussed with confidence in this Rizz Show daily podcast. Then reality gets even stranger. A man discovers his massive beer belly is actually a 77-pound tumor, setting a medical record nobody asked for. Another wakes up from surgery, suddenly fluent in Spanish thanks to a rare neurological condition that sounds fake but is terrifyingly real. The crew debates whether your brain secretly stores everything you've ever experienced — which might explain why this daily podcast exists in the first place. Things escalate when a story about a family Uno game allegedly ends in a stabbing, proving once and for all that Draw Four cards should come with a warning label. Add in celebrity chaos, pop culture commentary, Disney movie trauma, moon hotels that shouldn't exist, and a sneak peek at the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spinoff "Lazy Entitled Millennial Monkeys" — and you've got a daily podcast episode that covers more ground than it should and answers none of the questions it raises. Good lord, we hoped. We hoped that the Eagles would be able to get that ship RIGHTED. We thought, maybe, just MAYBE, Patullo would find his playoff legs and give us the Eagles offensive performance of our DREAMS...but as Meek Mill observed, that can soon be NIGHTMARES. Eagles, kaput, at the hands of an undermanned (and much better coached) Niners squad. Brock gets his revenge. Sigh. But Patullo's gone! So who do we like for OC? We assess the philosophical fit for this org, someone who can mesh with Nick but at the same time, be strong enough to be "not Nick" when the moment calls for it. Let's get a genius, either a proven entity or an up-and-comer who's got a definite style and approach. One that - frankly - needs to challenge Jalen Hurts and how he's adjusting to the game plan. Next year folks.THEN - we cut over to the Sixers, playing .500 ball as per usual. But there are moments to get excited about. Are they sellers at the deadline? BUYERS? Do they have what it takes to make that playoff push? Each week, Mike starts to let himself believe a little bit more. We're here for him.Flyers on a stinky stretch of losing....let's see if this week can get that turned around. Developing SOME SORT of power play would be great, guys. Whomever they have on the coaching staff who's accountable for PPs....oh man I hope they don't live near Kevin Patullo and have an egg allergy.Email: hoagiemouthpod@gmail.comIG: @hoagiemouthpod
In this holiday edition of Look Behind the Look, we unwrap the layers of Terry Gilliam's 1985 film Brazil, a retro futurist fever dream that cleverly disguises its incisive critique of bureaucracy and authoritarianism as a Christmas movie. Join us as we explore the film's rich aesthetics, from its elaborate production design to the campy hair and makeup, revealing how these visuals reflect the emotional machinery of a society struggling under the weight of conformity and denial. What do carnival sideshows, government paperwork, and half-billion-year-old nightmare creatures have in common? In this episode of The Box of Oddities, Kat and Jethro explore three very different corners of history where certainty was offered in place of understanding—and where things were far stranger than advertised. First, they step into the vanished world of early 20th-century hygiene exhibits: traveling carnival attractions that promised education but delivered fear. Set up alongside Ferris wheels and midway games, these sterile tents used wax models, shock imagery, and moral absolutism to teach the public what would happen if they failed to behave “correctly.” Disease was framed as punishment. Fear wasn't a side effect—it was the lesson. Then, in a Thing in the Middle, the focus shifts from bodies to paperwork. Kat and Jethro examine bizarre bureaucratic oddities: citizens declared dead while still alive, laws that regulate technologies no longer in use, records preserved on media that can no longer be read. It's a reminder that systems meant to create order can quietly lose track of reality. Finally, the episode dives deep into the Cambrian Explosion, a brief moment in geological time when life experimented wildly with form. From five-eyed predators to spined worms reconstructed upside-down for decades, these ancient creatures reveal a world where evolution hadn't settled on any final draft yet—and where “normal” hadn't been invented. Across carnivals, governments, and deep time, a pattern emerges: confidence without nuance, spectacle over explanation, and the human desire to make complicated worlds feel simple. The tents are gone. The paperwork remains. The creatures are fossilized. But the urge to replace understanding with certainty is still very much alive. Learn more about your ad choices. Gary & Shannon kick off the hour with #SwampWatch, breaking down the seizure of a sanctions-busting oil tanker tied to Russia and Venezuela, new U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine tied to a potential ceasefire, and the latest developments in President Trump’s Venezuela oil strategy. The conversation shifts to Hollywood intrigue as Warner Bros. Discovery rejects a revised Paramount offer, fueling questions about debt, consolidation, and why Netflix still looms large. The show then welcomes Gary & Shannon’s new producer, before pivoting to #Parenting with Justin Worsham, where a shocking hair color delays the segment and forces listeners to Instagram. The hour wraps with a candid, hilarious, and slightly terrifying discussion about what happens when kids overhear things they absolutely weren’t meant to… and then use it against you.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

After OpenAI CEO Sam Altman launched ChatGPT in 2022, the race for dominance in the field of artificial intelligence hit warp speed. Silicon Valley has poured billions of dollars into developing AI, building data centers, and promising a future free from the chains of unfulfilling work across the globe. But in “Empire of AI: Dreams and Nightmares in Sam Altman's OpenAI,” tech reporter Karen Hao pulls back the curtain, unveiling the human and environmental cost of artificial intelligence and the colonial ambitions undergirding Silicon Valley's efforts to fuel the rise of AI.This week on The Intercept Briefing, host Jessica Washington speaks to Hao about her book and the dawn of the AI empire. “Empires similarly consolidate a lot of economic might by exploiting extraordinary amounts of labor and not actually paying that labor sufficiently or at all,” says Hao. “So that's how they are able to amass wealth — because they're not actually distributing it.”“The speed at which they're constructing the infrastructure for training and deploying their AI models” is what shocks Hao the most, as “this infrastructure is actually not technically necessary, and ... somehow the companies have effectively convinced the public and governments that it is. And therefore there's been a lot of complicity in allowing these companies to continue building these projects.”“They have effectively been able to use this narrative of [artificial general intelligence] to accrue more capital, land, energy, water, data. They've been able to accrue more resources — and critical resources — than pretty much anyone in history,” Hao says, warning of "the complete aggressive and reckless” growth of AI infrastructure, but stresses that none of this is inevitable. “There is a very clear path for how to unlock the benefits of AI without accepting the colossal cost of it.”Listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen. If you want to support our work, you can go to theintercept.com/join.
