This is the first of a series about Cemetery Wanderers. I remember the days of cleaning graves with my mom and people looking at us like we were crazy. Going back and forth from the water fountain to get more clean water. Ron seeks out the stories and shares them on his YouTube channel. Some of these visits are epic and full of beauty. Flying over a snow-covered cemetery without feeling the cold, it's like a dream and Ron makes it happen with his experience with drones and videography. Enjoy this interview complete with some ghost stories! NOUFAUX is an artist who specializes in combining an Art Nouveau aesthetic with imagery and symbolism that evokes romance and beauty...and she does it using Classic Monsters. Dracula, Dr. Frankenstein's monster, Swamp Thing and more. Her collage and digital art concepts come together to create Faux Art Nouveau which brings the name NOUFAUX. Her work is stunning, but the meaning is much more than the beautiful facade. Well! We touched on so much during this interview. I felt like we've known each other forever. I can't wait to Have Luther on again! There is a whole extra episode in just our prep talk: cats, beheadings, punk rock, propaganda, influencers, vanitas still-lifes and more! I had to cut all that out so this episode would actually be about Luther and his work. I want him to be rightfully showcased. Luther goes by Spotless_marxx and silent Mic on social media. His blog is a playground for dry humor. He's creating an interactive tarot deck that speaks and moves! Sounds magical right? In so many ways. Luther will be invited back in the near future to talk about art in tarot. More on the blog post about Spottless_marx, but here's an excerpt of one of his quotes: "While I may draw inspiration from the per-historic cave painters, alchemists and even shaman and mystics living today, the harsh reality is that most of my creative energy & enthusiasm has been drained from working full-time since I was sixteen just to keep a roof over the head of my family and food on our table. I barely know who I am beyond the surface. I don't have a cave, a tribe or artifacts to inform and define me. So, with the precious energy I have kept for myself, I create my own. The Internet is my fountain, computer my archive and the smart phone my tool and the local copy store my laboratory." -Spottless Marxx In the meantime, find him here: https://fatbroketired.blogspot.com https://www.instagram.com/spottless_marxx/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/celise/support
Kay Petrey is an artist making lighthearted-gore a thing. You don't understand yet, I know, but you will. Listen to this fun episode about how pop surrealism and campy humor come together to design Kay's world of adorable death and mayhem. They take found items, vintage figures, iconic pieces that we recognize and turn them into bloody, gory works of art. Dismemberment never looked so fun. Hello strangers. Im celise and I’m inviting you into the hollywood rejects odditorium. As diehard fans of horror movies we are thrilled with the idea of chewing our nails off through the suspense, jumping in our seat, we hope that feeling lasts long enough to turn off our bedroom lights and run to the safety of our beds after the thrill ride is over. A movie experience can stick with us for life! It’s the story, the feeling it evoked in is, the grossness or the fear we had in that moment can be brought back in one memory and one violent shudder. In my opinion, The perfect storm comes about when there is a concept for a film that’s carried out in the coming together of many artists. The writer, the director, the actors, the set designers and makeup artists. Today I’m speaking with a special effects makeup artist who teaches her craft and creates some beautifully Gory pieces. Today’s featured artist is Brooke Weston. She has been featured in some of the coolest places around LA, and Galleries across the US. La Luz de Jesus, Monsterpalooza & The Mystic Museum to name a few. She uses two of my favorite mediums, taxidermy and miniatures. She creates tiny worlds within the concaves of damaged, abandoned, disheveled taxidermy pieces that have probably existed as long as she has. These vintage taxidermy pieces are given a new purpose, recycled into art. Pieces that would have otherwise become trash. She repairs and mends them so they can become a literal home for her vision. Did you know taxidermy was hollow? Well it is...and Brooke fills that space with creativity and wonder. Some folks think her work is creepy, weird, odd...some are repulsed...I saw her work making it’s rounds in miniature communities on social media and not without its controversy, but as with all art, if you keep looking and if you meet the artist, sometimes it helps to understand more about the world and even more about topics that are a little triggering for you. I saw her work and was immediately transported to her magical tiny world. Interpretation is always up to the audience no matter how the artist feels. Let’s meet brook now. Follow me into the gallery. Randall's Use of texture, contrast, the battle between light and shadow is not only apparent in the visual quality of his work, it's also ever-present in his chosen medium. His sincerity and openness is a refreshing companion to the dark matter that is his aesthetic. His work is emotive; like a sorrowful nightmare. Visceral and gritty, the textures beg to be touched. His feature film, Boxhead, is coming soon, he has music to share, he does it all. His illustrations can be seen on such works as the Amazon special presentation of The Lore Podcast. Emily Mcguiness & Dan Bridges are a duo creating graphic novels, writing horror stories, making zombie art…they even have a companion coloring book which, in my option, creates a viewer experience that is just fun for creatives and fans alike. Emily has a formal art background and Dan has a military background and a talent for writing which seems to come together to become the perfect couple for writing and designing a graphic novel about zombies!
