In this special episode of The Marvelists, hosts Peter Melnick and Eddie Wilson sit down with acclaimed comic book artist, writer, publisher, and educator Stephen R. Bissette for a wide-ranging conversation that bridges the worlds of mainstream comics, independent publishing, and creative rebellion. Best known for his groundbreaking work on DC's Saga of the Swamp Thing alongside Alan Moore and John Totleben, Bissette brought a revolutionary level of detail, horror, and ecological depth to the title in the 1980s. But his career extends far beyond the Bayou: from co-founding the influential horror anthology Taboo to self-publishing the ambitious Tyrant series—a meticulously researched, life-cycle epic starring a Tyrannosaurus rex that remains a high-water mark in creator-owned comics. Whether you're a Marvel fan curious about the wider industry, a Swamp Thing aficionado, or simply love stories about dinosaur comics and artistic integrity, this episode delivers insights from one of the medium's most thoughtful and uncompromising voices. Expect plenty of behind-the-pages stories, reflections on the evolution of the industry, and why dinosaurs (and swamp monsters) still rule.

The teases for Daredevil Born Again SEASON 3 gave us goosebumps! !! Coy Jandreau & Greg Alba sit down with the legendary Vincent D'Onofrio for an in-depth Daredevil: Born Again interview about Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, Charlie Cox's Daredevil, Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, the creative overhaul behind the series, and what may be ahead for Daredevil Season 3. Vincent D'Onofrio (Daredevil, Full Metal Jacket, Men in Black, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The Cell) reflects on returning as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, breaking down the psychology, physicality, voice inspiration, and emotional foundation behind one of Marvel's most intimidating villains. The conversation explores Fisk's loneliness, rage, dark sense of humor, spirituality, and the Kingpin improvised “boo” scene, along with how comic book artists like David Mack helped shape his performance. Plus, Vincent drops a surprise, passionate casting pitch to join James Gunn's DC Universe as Swamp Thing! The interview also dives into the Daredevil: Born Again creative overhaul, with D'Onofrio discussing how he, Charlie Cox, and the creative team pushed to make the series feel more like a true Daredevil story. He talks about Marvel Studios' creative support, Kevin Feige, why Marvel reshot portions of Daredevil, and how the team had to “Frankenstein” what had already been shot to build a stronger version of the show. D'Onofrio also teases Daredevil Season 3, including more action, emotional journeys, and new territory involving Kingpin's childhood backstory, size, trauma, and the darkness that shaped Wilson Fisk. Based on the iconic Marvel Comics characters, Daredevil: Born Again continues the story of Matt Murdock / Daredevil (Charlie Cox — Stardust, Boardwalk Empire, The Theory of Everything) and Wilson Fisk / Kingpin as their mirrored obsessions with justice, control, morality, and the soul of New York City pull them deeper into conflict. The conversation also heads into DC territory as D'Onofrio opens up about his dream of playing Swamp Thing, why Alec Holland speaks to him emotionally, and what he would bring to James Gunn's DCU if given the chance. From Vincent D'Onofrio's Swamp Thing pitch to Marvel behind-the-scenes stories, Marvel snipers, Kingpin's dark psychology, and the future of Daredevil Season 3, this Reel Rejects interview offers a rare look inside one of the MCU's most unforgettable comic book performances. It's the end of another month and that means we have new Comic Book Bears Podcast audio episodes for you to enjoy! Earlier in the month it was the 24th annual Free Comic Book Day (and the first-ever Comics Giveaway Day - don't worry, we explain the distinction) and CBB boys Bill Z and Steve give a rundown of the free books that were available from retailers. After that it's onto this episode's funnybook round-up with a great bunch of recent first issues up for discussion - Zatanna (DC Comics), the long delayed (like, 37 years) Swamp Thing 89 (DC Black Label). Murder Hobo (Midnight Factory) and Nectar (Vault Comics)! Hit that play button and we will provide for you one hour and forty-five minutes of hairy heavy homo comic book chatter!

Driving ambition also applies to Rick Veitch in the latest episode where his experiments in layout and storytelling reaches a new level. Today we travel to India to speak with Aditya Bidikar upon the release of his anticipated Tiny Onion produced Mini Series-In Your Skin. The story centers around the culture of celebrity and the obsession that an overzealous fan can create while idolizing their Hero without knowing that their favorite person may be torn themselves. We meet Priyanka who loves Bollywood star Ayesha, but feels at a loss when she suddenly announces her retirement. Sensing a void, Priyanka makes a choice she feels may be the only way to step In her Skin (pun intended). Aditya has lettered some of our favorite books whether they are Department of Truth, Worldtr33, Swamp Thing, and soon joining Darcy Van Poelgeest in the graphic novel The Cutting Garden for Image Comics. He has been holding this particular story deep at vest for 7 years and we talk about the transition from Letterer to Writer and how the craft is best known for pacing, but yet understanding the intensity in the creation of this Body Horror suspense tale.Written and Lettered by Aditya BidikarArtwork by SomColors by Francesco Segala
Do you rememer the FOX Kids animated Swamp Thing animated series that was supported by a really nice Kenner action figure line? How about when Swamp Thing realistically was the center of all of DC Comics Media? Well..... don't worry The Film Buff is here to fill in the blurry spots of this lost early 90's sensation. Swamp Thing not only as a character but a franchise was on the precepis of greatness, the type of sucess comic fans had not seen before and this 1991 animated series was thebiggest play in that regard. WOW let's hang out for today animation episode get a little bit frustrated with what could ahve been.
This week, we discuss Substack comics coming to print, more unpublished Swamp Thing stories, Marvel Magic promos, Beckett, Mad About DC, DC/Marvel getting collected, Monstress heading to Amazon, the upcoming Punisher special, and WonderCon 2026. Starring Ryan Higgins, Brock Sager, Kevin Sharp, Toby Sidler, and Lane Terasaki.
Did you know Wes Craven directed a wild DC Comics movie back in 1982? And did you know the same producers behind this swampy cult classic were also deeply involved in making Tim Burton's Batman '89 possible? If you didn't, you're gonna love my deep dive with Tim into Swamp Thing!https://youtu.be/Bbo1ubjBRoohttps://rumble.com/v785mki-swamp-thing-is-the-only-wes-craven-super-hero-movie-hack-the-movies.html
