There are warnings that an increase in the amount of sugar cane that can be imported into the UK tariff-free will impact British sugar beet farmers, who are already getting a lower price for their produce because of an oversupply of sugar. The government has announced that 325 thousand tonnes of raw cane sugar, sourced from anywhere in the world, will be tariff-free from 1st January 2026. That's a 25% increase by volume on previous years. Campaigners have warned a huge oversupply of battery storage sites for renewable energy is threatening to blight Scotland's countryside. The charity Action to Protect Rural Scotland, or APRS, says a study it's publishing today shows there is four times as much battery storage planned as we are likely to need for the transition to green energy. That, it says, means unnecessary damage, planning blight and lost farmland across the country. And we attend the sale of an unrivalled collection of vintage farm wagons and horse drawn carts - amassed over 40 years - which went under the hammer at an auction in Dorset. Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Sally Challoner.

Building hype for a new brewery project is one of the most difficult tasks in the game, but the champs behind Herman made it happen. Nestled in the Laurentians in Prévost, QC, Herman has cemented itself as a leading purveyor of crispies (primarily), haze, sours and farmhouse in the province. Co-Founders Fréd and John joined Cee to chat about their origin story, why they keep making gorgeous farmhouse ales in bottles, the labour split between the partners and why that works, their love of coffee, their approach to their beer, how they handle collaborations and why collabs helped put them on the map, their Ontario collabs, why they stick to short cans, their "new age vintage" brand and labels, where the name came from, and why they want to collab with Drake. They got into five killer Herman brews - Echo Lite Light Lager, Spund Kellerbier, Severni Světlý Ležák 12°, Pia IPA Néo-Zélandaise, and Periaca barrel-aged Farmhouse Ale with peaches and apricots. This was a gem - cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

Fun fact – Austin Bateman, the actor in the show who plays Young Scrooge, is a fan of the podcast. He's done a great job interpreting how a younger BJ Harrison would sound as Scrooge. My son Seven picked up on what he was doing and complimented him on it. It's a great show. If you're in the area, there are three more performances. Today's VINTAGE episode was recorded in 2018, when my son was Scrooge in high school. I thought it was time to revisit the story. There's a reason it's a classic! Episode 291 continues with Jeremy Lee and Joe Poirot are joined by Leighton Sheldon of Just Collect for a focused conversation on where the line sits between cards and memorabilia. They dig into what happens when card prices climb into serious money, whether collectors should pivot to memorabilia at certain price points, and how space, display, and personal taste factor into those decisions. From there the trio shifts into a long, honest discussion about sticker autographs, PSA 10 autograph grades, and whether grading the auto itself adds real value or just marketing noise. Topics in this segment include: • Leighton's main question: when your card budget hits its ceiling, do you start looking at memorabilia instead• Jeremy's “cards only” stance and why game used gloves made the cut when jerseys did not• Space, storage, and display issues that push some collectors away from big items and back to cards• Jackie Robinson examples: 1950 Bowman in different grades versus signed pieces and scorecards• How memorabilia can offer historically significant items at prices below top tier card grades• Why some collectors chase one key piece of memorabilia per player while others stay strictly cardboard• Sticker autos versus on card autos and why some collectors refuse stickers entirely• PSA 10 autograph grades on modern pack pulled autos and whether the extra premium is justified• Vintage signed cards, fading ink, ballpoint quirks, and when an autograph grade actually helps• The psychology of “10/10” labels, population reports, and how grading companies changed how autos are valued Sports Cards Live streams live on YouTube every Saturday night, and this audio comes from that live video show. Happiest of Thanksgivings, Vintage Sand fans, and welcome to Episode 63, our tribute to the incomparable and quietly brilliant Robert Redford. Consider this. If all the Sundance Kid had given us was a series of memorable and subtly complex performances as an actor in a career spanning half a century, that would have been enough to make him a critically important figure in Hollywood, particularly in that mini-Golden Age of the American New Wave of the 1970's. Had the only thing he given us was two masterpieces ("Ordinary People" and "Quiz Show") and his other often beautiful work as a director, that alone would make him a legend. Had the only thing he done was pave the way for the arrival of nearly every single great American film director of the last four decades through his work as the founder and inspiration behind the Sundance Film Festival, that would make him one of the towering figures in the history of American film. And had he focused his seemingly boundless energies exclusively on the best of social causes, such as climate issues and indigenous rights, in the quiet and unassuming way he did, that would be a cause for a celebration of his greatness. The fact that Robert Redford managed to do all of this and more during his lifetime, and with such an unerring sense of grace, cements his place as a foundational figure of modern American cinema. Team Vintage Sand takes the last line from one of his greatest performances, in 1972's "The Candidate", and uses it as the title of our tribute to him as we ponder the what American film will look like without him: What do we do now?

Today, in time for the US Thanksgiving, we discuss wine. From rare Burgundies to commodity wine that is shipped in containers and blended. What is wine? How is it made? What is the market structure and how has that changed with internationalization, changing tastes and climate change. And why is English wine ascendant? Our guest is Nick Brewer, former COO of Noble Group and ECTP and now founder and owner of Oastbrook Winery (where you can stock up for Christmas here https://oastbrook.com/online-shop/).

James Lamdin is a sage voice of reason and experience in the vintage watch market. He's earned those titles through his years in the business. A co-founder of the OG collector meetup RedBar Group, Lamdin went on to found Analog Shift, the vintage and pre-owned dealer acquired by Watches of Switzerland (also the parent company of Hodinkee) in 2020. In a conversation recorded live in front of an audience at UBS House of Craft in New York City in October, Lamdin breaks down the vintage and pre-owned watch market, how we got here, where we've been, and where we're likely going. He also gives plenty of useful insight on what it means for a second-hand watch to be truly authenticated and how collectors need to stay curious to get the most out of their watch-collecting journey. Lamdin proves himself a wealth of knowledge when it comes to used timepieces and what anyone should be thinking about when they're considering buying pre-owned. We had a blast recording this episode, especially taking questions from the audience. Be sure to leave any thoughts, comments, or questions in the comments, and we'll do our best to respond.
