The Eagles are changing their strategy by signing players at positions they normally wouldn't have in years past, like Saquon Barkley. Is this a good idea if it goes against how the Eagles have operated for years? They also discuss a possible Dallas Goedert trade, maybe to the a division rival, and Aaron Rodgers' meeting with the Jets. Also, hear the highlights of last night's Phillies win!

The Morning team with Joe DeCamara, and today Eliot Shorr-Parks (in for Jon Ritchie), discussed the Eagles' philosophy change surrounding player priority that they normally wouldn't, which led to the Saquon Barkley extension. Eliot Shorr-Parks thinks the Eagles could be playing with fire. Was the Saquon extension necessary? There are rumors that an NFC East rival has inquired about Dallas Goedert. Will the Eagles keep the 32nd pick in next week's draft? Who could they get at 32 should they choose to stay there. No one is currently sure about the Phillies' future, even after a win and a split series with the San Francisco Giants. Aaron Rodgers made headlines after a not-so-friendly discussion with the Jets HS. Joe DeCamara does a report on Ariana Grande. Drop of the week and Time's Yours!

April 14, 2025Today's Reading: John 12:1-23Daily Lectionary: Exodus 9:1-28; Lamentations 1:1-22; Hebrews 2:1-18“When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well,” (John 12:9-10)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.“He is Risen! He is Risen, indeed! Alleluia! Amen!” is a common response that we proclaim regarding the resurrection of Christ. Usually, this response is reserved for Easter Sunday and the seasons following Easter, and when the Sunday of Transfiguration arrives, we bury the Alleluias until Easter Sunday.  The Monday of Easter draws our attention to another resurrection—the resurrection of Lazarus. Three times in John 12:1-23 Lazarus' resurrection is mentioned. Lazarus' resurrection was problematic. Everyone knew Lazarus had died and had been dead for four days in the tomb. He was not just dead but dead, dead, dead, dead. He was four days dead. Now, Lazarus is alive. He is alive and eating, and speaking, and living! The local church leaders had a problem with the resurrection of Lazarus. The chief priests need to kill Lazarus, too. He needed to die again.  Our world around us does not want the resurrection. In sin, the world pursues the desires of the flesh. Philosophies advocate that we have one life and only one life, so we had better get out of it all we can before we die. The world teaches us to pursue the desires of the flesh. The world teaches you to serve yourself. The world teaches you that you are your own god. The Old Adam in us relishes those temptations and wages war with the New Man in Christ daily. You, too, have already died and will die. The old Adam is drowned daily in the waters of Baptism, and you will breathe your last breath of air at some point. You, too, have already been resurrected and will be resurrected from the dead. In Your Baptism, the New Man in Christ is resurrected. When Christ returns in all of His glory, you will be resurrected from the dead just as Christ came out of the tomb. We live in that tension of being dead and resurrected each day. On the Last Day, we know that just as Lazarus was called from the tomb, we, too, will rise from the dead. We will rise from the dead like Lazarus because Christ conquered death in His resurrection. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Almighty God, grant that in the midst of our failures and weaknesses we may be restored through the passion and intercession of Your only-begotten Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. (Collect for Monday of Holy Week)-Rev. Sunday, March 16, 2025 – We’re still studying 1 John 2:15-17, and the title of our message today is: “Living in but Not Loving the World.” There are many things in life that we can control and many more that we cannot. We have no say in the nature or condition of the “world” we inhabit. For this reason, we must understand the definition of the word “world. " The Bible uses this word from two different perspectives. The first definition of “world” refers to the created world described in Genesis 1. God created the world and everything in it and was pleased with it, indicating that it was perfect and given to mankind to steward and rule over. However, Satan’s temptation to rebel against God led Adam and Eve to exchange their domain and rulership of the world for a bite of fruit taken in rebellion. Thus, mankind relinquished the rulership of the perfect created world to Satan, marking the beginning of the second definition of the word: the “Kosmos World,” which represents the organizational system of the fallen subset of the created world. Since then, Satan has actively twisted and distorted everything about the perfect “Created World” into an evil-inspired “Kosmos World System” in which we live. This is the chaos we experience in our world system today. This is the world that we are warned not to love in our text today. Worship and study with us as we learn about the three main temptations in this “Kosmos World,” identified as the “Lust of the Flesh, " the “Lust of the Eyes,” and the “Pride of Life.”

Her name appears over and over again in writing from the time, Socrates wrote about her, Plato, Plutarch, Cicero the orator, Xenophon the historian, Athenaeus the writer, Aristophanes the comic playwright, Pericles the leader of the city-state of Athens. One woman's name was on all of their minds: Aspasia of Miletus. They loved her. They hated her. They called her a great mind, a teacher, a master of rhetoric. They called a prostitute, a cheap whore, a brothel madam. They gave her credit for writing great speeches passed on to men. They gave her credit for starting great wars, the ruin of Athens. But who was Aspasia really and why was everyone talking about her? Send us a textThe most valuable commodity on Earth isn't gold or uranium or fresh air and clean water, it's Free Will. In the last month or so I've gone deep into the angelic realms with some celestial guides. One common thread between all angels, guides, Spirit, God, Jesus, Israfil, Buddha, ancestors and any other being is that each human has Free Will. In order to be of assistance, or charm our dang lives, we have to ask. In split second, life or death instances, our Higher Self gives an immediate response to forces that wish to intercede on our behalf, knowing this version of us most likely will take too long to respond and be saved. But those dramatic instances aside, I've noticed in different ways from a myriad of groups as well as individuals, including some in the woo community, we are being lulled into giving away. From the jokey, "Jesus take the wheel," to the Meteor 2024 bumper stickers, to sessions with shady shamen that involve hallucinogens, to Super Bowl ads, some meditations, alien ideation, and more, the messages were unrelenting and unsettling, and I feel called to highlight this valuable commodity. There's a professor at Stanford who believes none of us has Free Will.  If we receive breadcrumbs from the Universe through dreams or synchronicities and choose to follow them, is that still using Free Will?Add to the mix the mystical week I've had that led me to drive back to the pet grooming business to deliver a message, and I'm certain this will be a juicy episode.Let's get into it.Show Sources and Next Reads/Watches/Listens:A Stanford Neuroscientist that Believes Free Will Does Not Exist, YouTube, BigThink interview with Robert SapolskySynchronicities from the Library of Thoth, YouTubeSuch an intriguing conversation about myths and free willDetermined: A Science of Life without Free Will, Robert Sapolsky, Amazon.comSynchronicity: What is it, does it exist, and if so — how can you recognize it in your life?, Sylvia Clare, Medium.com Have you tried the GoodPods app yet? As he signed the book he so graciously sent me, “Remember: the only people who really care about sound are the audience.” We dug into ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) in film and how that can kill emotion. About how technical skills are only there to pave way for the emotional. And about caring about the right things and speaking up for yourself. Sound designing is the art of world building. So step into Kelley's world for a moment, and come out the other end loving music more. (The book he sent was The Angry Filmmaker Survival Guide Part 2: Sound Conversations With (un)Sound People. Why didn't Smith want Wilson changing plays at the line of scrimmage? Could their friction prevent them from working together next season? Is this another reason to believe the Steelers will prefer Justin Fields for 2025? And what level of involvement did coach Mike Tomlin have in the situation? Our duo tackles those questions, then turns attention to receivers. Is trading George Pickens a serious possibility for GM Omar Khan and this front office? Where would that leave the receivers room beyond Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson? And is Cooper Kupp a worthwhile trade target after the Rams made him available on the NFL trade market this week?

Luke 10:25-29 - The Three Philosophies of Life

Pastor Mike Impact Ministries

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 4, 2025 5:09

In Luke 10, Jesus sent out the “seventy” two by two to go and proclaim the message of the kingdom. Remember in Luke 9, Jesus sent out the “twelve” on their own for the first time to do the same. We believe that Jesus is now in His third year of earthly ministry primarily presenting Himself as the “Promised Messiah”, and the Son of God to the nation of Israel, but also as the Son of Man to the world that He came to die for and save. But during His three and half years of earthly ministry, Jesus is also discipling the “twelve”, teaching and training them for their future ministry.   I can only imagine that in Luke 10, when Jesus sent the “seventy” it must have somewhat surprised the “twelve” making them realize that they were not the only ones who would be involved in advancing and proclaiming the Gospel to their own people but also to the world.   Right after the “seventy” return and gives their report to Jesus of successful ministry, Jesus privately reminds His “twelve” disciples that they are very privileged to physically see and experience the presence of the Son of God, something that even the kings and prophets in the Old Testament didn't have (vv. 21-24). It is then that Luke gives us the story of the “Good Samaritan” that Jesus tells, that is not recorded in any of the other Gospel accounts. This story is probably one of the most famous and retold stories of the New Testament.   Today, we will explore the introduction to this wonderful story that Jesus told this lawyer. It was expected that rabbis would discuss theological matters in public, and the question this scribe (lawyer) asked was one that was often debated by the Jews. It was a good question asked with a bad motive, because the lawyer hoped to trap our Lord. However, Jesus trapped the lawyer!   Our Lord sent the man back to the Law, not because the Law saves us (Gal. 2:16, 21; 3:21), but because the Law shows us that we need to be saved. There can be no real conversion without conviction, and the Law is what God uses to convict sinners (Rom. 3:20). Remember in Mark 10:17-22, that Jesus basically said something similar to the “rich young ruler” that came running to Him and asked the same question, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” By the way, this is a very good question we should all consider.   The scribe gave the right answer, but he would not apply it personally to himself and admit his own lack of love for both God and his neighbor. So, instead of being justified by throwing himself on the mercy of God (Luke 18:9-14), he tried to justify himself and wriggle out of his predicament. He used the old debating tactic, "Define your terms! What do you mean by 'neighbor'? Who is my neighbor?" Remember the “rich young ruler” tried to convince himself and Jesus that he had kept all the commandments.   It is interesting to note that Jesus did not say that this story was a parable, so it could well be the report of an actual occurrence. For Jesus to tell a story that made the Jews look bad and the Samaritans look good would either be dangerous or self-defeating. "You just made that up!" they could say. "We all know that nothing like that would ever happen!" So it is possible that some of His listeners, including the lawyer, knew that such a thing had really happened. Either way, the account is realistic.   There are many lessons from this story that we can learn and apply to our own lives. But the one I have enjoyed sharing the most over the years is that the people in it basically represent the three philosophies that we might have in life concerning money and things!   The thieves – “What is thine is mine, and I am going to take it”. The priest and Levite – “What is mine is mine, and I am going to keep it”. The Good Samaritan – “What is mine is thine, and I am going to share it”.   What is your attitude toward your “things” today?   God bless!
