Adding fuel to life thru travel and adventure while I learn about life and raise a beautiful little girl. Daily Lifestyle Vlogger.
2016-01-20 Recorded on January 10th, 2016: Back in Ningbo after my USA trip. Returning to China I'm trying to figure out how to spend the next 75 days before I start my summit attempt of Mount Everest. Its important to get in the best possible shape, while still caring for my knee. But it's a little hard to find the fuel and direction. Maybe it's the Chinese smog getting to my head.
2016-05-08 Well, tomorrow I start the big ascent up Everest. Let me bring you up to speed on what has been going on and give you a bit of a read on how I am feeling, about to venture to the top of the world. This was the last podcast i recorded in this series. If you are interested in the rest of the story you can watch my daily vlog episodes on my youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/JaYoeNation
2016-04-12 Here I am! Everest Base Camp. Slightly worse for ware. The altitude has finally gotten to me.
2016-04-19 An eventful morning, full of celebration, blessings for the team, new news about the future of the expedition and a lot of fun!
2016-04-14 A quiet discussion before bed in my tent, of the camp, the goings on, my health and the near future of the climb.
2016-03-30 I finally got to meet my team leader with Adventures Global, Ronnie Muhl. He just returned to Kathmandu after leading a large group of parents and high school kids from South Africa on a trek to Base Camp. While meeting with them, the infamous Billi Bierling visited with us, and told us about her amazing job cataloging all those venturing out into the adventurous wilds of the Nepalese Himalayan mountains.
2016-03-25 Made it! I am in Kathmandu. Long day of flying and airports. Im glad to be here and ready to get focused on the mission at hand. The hotel is comfortable, and I an planning to rest up after an extremely early morning.
2016-03-20 With Everest only a few days away, I am trying to wrap up things, and make sure Everest is going to be a great success without worry. I have also started a new project, the JY_VLOG, which will fit into the Travelogue, Podcast, and other content I have created. I think it will be a good fit. Training almost finished, I also bring in my trainer Xu to talk with the podcast, and give his insight into how he has been preparing my body for the mountain.
2016-03-20 While I work to conquer the tallest mountain in the world, my little Eva will be maturing in Anny’s belly. So if I cannot be there to talk to her in this important growing stage in her life, I will instead create her own special podcast, full of sounds of my voice, lessons in life, and soothing children’s songs This is a podcast I think most of you can skip, but I put it up nonetheless for you to listen to if you want. It's up to you.
2016-02-26 As days creep ever closer to Everest, I am starting to take stock of where I am at. My training is progressing every day feeling a little stronger. My heath is getting checked. At the time of this recording I received a full body check, with a PET scan coming up next Monday to make sure there isn’t anything catastrophic going on anywhere. My website is coming together, as it must in order to be ready for when I leave for Kathmandu on the 24th And my apprehension for the size and scope of climbing Mount Everest came on strong just as I got a sorely necessary reality check from the team at Adventures Global.
2016-02-15 With the beginning of my summit expedition of Mount Everest around a month and a half away, it’s time to turn my complete focus to the mountain. Up until now I have been physically preparing for the climb, but its time to put some mental preparation into play. Time to investigate the stages of the climb, and start to prepare myself mentally for the job of getting to the top of the world. Visualization is an important part of my arsenal when accomplishing any of my goals. It engages your mind to start chewing at the doubts and fears, and begins to build the unwavering confidence and determination necessary to get to the top. Everest should have been an important milestone along a JaYoe World Tour already in full swing, but it is shaping out to be the ultimate starting from which to restart the tour yet again. Lets hope this time it can mark the beginning of a tour that does not need to have any more hiccups.
2016-03-16 Sylvie is a good friend of mine from wayyyy back. well... wayyyy back from when i first got to China, which seems like ages ago. She is a teacher in Ningbo, and proposed a project to a few of her international students.
2016-02-03 In this podcast, I get to introduce Anny formally to the JaYoe Nation. We have been in Thailand for about a week already, so while we sit on the beach in Koh Lanta, Thailand, let's bring "the Nation" some interesting and wonderful news.
2016-01-21 Training steady every day, I have been able to start to feel some real differences in my body. I have a great new trainer, and a regiment that is testing my joints and my core, while paying attention to my knee, as well as taking the upcoming climb of Mount Everest into consideration. Set to take a couple weeks in Krabi, Thailand, I have been remembering past travel experiences around the world, and all the untold stories i have captured on video. Ryan has even reminded me of all the cool video we shot while we were together on the road in china. So much to do, so many stories untold and so little time.
2016-02-03 Finally had a chance to get some quality care. Perfect timing too! So the new year will hold new possibilities, starting with clear answers and guidance on my knee, and prepare me for Summiting Everest starting March. Follow me as I drive to the doctor, get some answers, and talk about the holiday in Detroit.
2015-12-23 On a flight back to USA for a surprise holiday visit to my family, I have time to reflect on my time in china, and what the trip means to me from the standpoint of friendship and companionship. China is full of interesting and exotic foods, as well as some fairly potent alcohol…. Which I was reintroduced to the day before recording this podcast. Bringing my MRI scans to USA, I will have an opportunity to get some advice in English from professionals in the states, and I have even brought my Santa suit to introduce my chinese santa to my nieces
2015-12-19 There are no great successes without some strife. I have been getting my fare share of strife these days. Let me tell you about what is going down with me, Ryan and the tour, and why I am doing this podcast on a train headed back to Ningbo. But it’s not all bad. Ryan and I reminisce about some of the beautiful rides we have had over the past couple days, some great charity moments, and super duper pooper.
2015-12-12 Back on the road a week earlier than expected. This is the second day on the road and so far so good. In this podcast we sum up the last week, from the end of our time in Taiwan to the current situation as we prepare to make our way into the mountains of Fujian province. A lot has happened, from hostile hostel encounters to detonating rear tires. Lets cover it all.
2015-12-02 Riding out of Taipei, we head south to a small wood milling town called Sanyi. The smells of wood and manual labor fill the air, and gives the whole area a natural feeling. We decided to stay a couple nights here, at a unique hostel called So Art. So Art is only 3 months old, and we sat down with the owner to get his perspectives on travel, life in Taiwan, betel nut and a few things in between. This was our first time experimenting with a three person podcast. Other than the air conditioner in the background, I think it came out pretty good!
2015-11-29 The hostel we are staying at, Meander Hostel in Taipei, is full of interesting people with interesting stories. So while I try to "do nothing" as hard as humanly possible to let my knee heal up, I end up having some meaningful interaction with some of the people passing thru. I had intended for this podcast to be mainly about a guy named Alek. Alek is a employee at the hostel, using the job as his primary mode of transportation while he finds amazing and interesting places to satisfy his passion for rock climbing and surfing. But inadvertently while I was editing in the hostel lobby, I was approached by a couple of residents asking what I was up too. Kirsty and her boyfriend Dale are on an amazing journey, and they told me all about it in the Modern Toilet restaurant near the hostel while I waited for Alek to arrive to work. Two amazing stories of travel, and one interesting "poop-themed" dinner.
2015-11-23 Could the JaYoe World Tour be dealt another deathblow? I took the 20kgs I was able to isolate off my load back to Ningbo, hoping this would be the solution to help me overcome this problem with my knee... but unfortunately the doctor saw something that cannot simply be fixed by a reduction or weight, and needs some real time off the road. So Ryan and I put our heads together and decided to be as productive as possible with enforced down time.
2015-11-30 We decided to take one more painful ride to the city of Wenzhou with the help of Ryan taking the trailer off my back for a while. It's time to make some tough choices. I cannot continue to ride this heavy. So seeing as though we are not too far from my home base of Ningbo, I decided to cut out ALL non essentials and take it with me on the fast train to Ningbo. There I will offload it and get my knee checked out, and return lighter and hopefully with less pain tomorrow. And be ready to get back on the road!
2015-12-02 Couple more days have passed. One extremely short day and another extremely hilly one. Both were times to experiment with the drone... WHICH IS AWESOME! There is actually a very interesting story about me flying it and almost losing it. But the past few days have brought a issue that could affect the overall success of the trip as a whole, and its making me very nervous.
Recorded : 2015-11-13 Tired. That is how I categorize my feelings as I record this podcast. But the show must go on, so me and Ryan pulled out the mics and went over the first 2 eventful days we have had so far while being on the road.
Ryan is here and we have a lot to talk about! We rode for the first time as trike mates, and he brought some great new gear from the states. Sorry about some of the audio issues... we are learning...
recorded: 2015-11-04 Ryan will arrive tonight. His seemingly "China-made" Trike arrived yesterday. Lots to discuss before he gets here.
What happened after that truck hit me on that lonely highway in Guangning? Find out... and catch the latest Ryan update. Talk about his new trike, his travel plans, and some worries...
recorded: 2015-10-28 A big step in the trip… Ryan’s VISA has arrived! What does that mean for the future of the trip? Also… Halloween is coming and I guess I will be involved in a Chinese made documentary…. They want to know if there is anything interesting enough happening in my life to base the doc on
Finally on the road with the new Trike and Trailer, fully loaded with the Schumpf as well. Today I am talking about how my first ride went, comparing with my last trip, and also commenting on the Schlumpf drive in action. If you want to know why I am not wearing a helmet…. Ill give you a hint… “I’m not that smart”. Other than that… I touch on some timing considerations, and plans ahead when I do get back on the road
(originally recorded 2015-10-13)So how did I come up with the exact path around the world? Why did I choose certain points and why did I connect them the way I did. I promise you, there was a method to my madness. Let me take this as my opportunity to pick thru the JaYoe World Tour map… and possibly enlighten you all to the why’s and the how’s. You may want to follow along on the tour map on www.jayoe.com/map The JaYoe Nation Podcast #004 | Loaded Ride Confessions 2015-10-20 Finally on the road with the new Trike and Trailer, fully loaded with the Schumpf as well.
Had some new deliveries today. Things that are designed to make my time on the road a little better. One of the arrivals allowed me to install my new 110 High Speed Schlumpf Drive to replace the old one. Ill discuss exactly what a Schlumpf drive is and why I am replacing it in the podcast. Also listen to my take on being a traveling videographer and some of the gear I bring with me to produce the video content on the road. I am in the process of adding some new things to the kit, and a cool new product from DJI may have just presented itself as the “holy grail” of video tools… I hope.
(originally recorded 2015-10-03) What inspires a person to take the step to embark on an amazing journey? In this podcast I delve into how I became inspired to put together the JaYoe World Tour, and specifically the moments that led to my inspiration. I also talk about what brought me to China from where I was living in Las Vegas. This is the first “real” episode of the JaYoe Nation Podcast, and I layout a little of what you can expect from future Podcasts. Ill also dedicate these first few podcasts to answer the who’s and the why’s of the JaYoe World Tour, so those of you who don’t know me can understand more about who I am and why I am doing this. If you would like to learn more about the guys I met on the beach in Thailand, you can find them at http://www.onthebeatandpath.com/ Ooh.. and the movie I was thinking about was “Pirates of the Carribean”… and they were talking about the Pirate code… they were more guidelines then rules.. haha
(Originally recorded 2015-09-28) This is the first of what I hope develops into a audio podcast about the JaYoe World Tour. Here you can hear a more in depth discussion about my travel preparations, my thoughts, my gear and a lot more details about what goes on while on the JaYoe World Tour. This first one is more of a test than anything. I wanted to set up the process of making the Podcast and really just wanted to figure out how to make one of these... I wouldn't even classify this as Podcast #1... It's just a test. Still, you should find it interesting! Enjoy.
