Episode 205: In this episode of the Sports Performance Leadership Podcast, hosted by Pete McKnight, we are joined by Dr. David Bailey — an internationally recognised coach, sports scientist, and performance leader whose career spans over two decades across Olympic, corporate, and professional sport. David is currently Head of Performance Support with a World Tour professional cycling team, where he leads multidisciplinary sports science and performance teams competing at the highest level. Over the past ten years, he has helped drive innovation and integration across physiology, nutrition, technology, and data — guiding athletes and staff towards sustained world-class performance. Before his move into cycling, David was a Senior Research Scientist at Nestlé, responsible for global sports nutrition research for PowerBar, and previously a sports physiologist with the English Institute of Sport across three Olympic cycles — Athens, Beijing, and London — supporting athletes in cycling, triathlon, and other endurance sports. With a PhD in Exercise and Sport Nutrition from Loughborough University and more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, David continues to shape the evolution of applied sports science and performance leadership — bridging the gap between research, technology, and real-world performance. In this conversation, David and Pete explore the art and science of performance management — from the “aggregation of marginal gains” to the power of reflection, collaboration, and human-centred leadership in complex, high-pressure environments. Topics Discussed: David's journey from academic research to elite performance leadership The real meaning behind “aggregation of marginal gains” Balancing data-driven insights with human-centred leadership Lessons from Olympic sport, corporate R&D, and World Tour cycling The future of performance leadership in the age of AI and technology Where you can find David: LinkedIn - Sponsors VALD Performance, makers of the Nordbord, Forceframe, ForeDecks and HumanTrak. Mika Noodt is ranked second in the T100 World Tour standings (with two races to go), has four T100 podiums so far in 2025, and has multiple Ironman 70.3 and Challenge Family wins and podiums on his resume. In this interview we discuss Mika's training in great detail, get into the specific dynamics of racing in T100 races, and we even discuss how Mika might have ended up being a Formula 1 driver rather than a triathlete if circumstances had allowed.HIGHLIGHTS AND KEY TOPICS: How Mika got into triathlonA deep-dive into Mika's training, including key swimming, cycling and running sessionsHis unconventional (you might say epic!) strength training blocksA breakdown of a full week of triathlon training with Mika - from the lead-up to T100 Wollongong (where he finished 2nd)The dynamics of racing on the T100 World Tour - what is the swim, bike and run like, and how does it compare to Ironman 70.3 races? The pacing strategy Mika uses to maximise his performance in T100 racesMika's decision to focus exclusively on the T100 series in 2025A full Ironman in Mika's future?Listener questions...and more!DETAILED EPISODE SHOWNOTES: We have detailed shownotes for all of our episodes. With the 2025 road racing season now firmly in the rear view mirror, join Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie for a freewheeling ramble through some of the big stories that have hit the headlines in the past couple of weeks. We start by discussing the fragile nature of survival at World Tour level with the news that the Australian team Jayco-Alula came within days of possibly folding, and the delays to confirmation that two Belgian teams, Lotto and Intermarché, intend to become one. Where does that leave the riders, especially Intermarché's biggest star Biniam Girmay? Then we indulge in a bit of off-season speculation and wonder what Tadej Pogačar's 2026 season might look like, particularly with a number of race organisers making changes seemingly to entice the SlovAlien to ride. The Vuelta a España starting in his adopted home town of Monaco is not a particularly subtle overture and it seem an appealing prospect but, as we discuss, the picture is more complicated than that. (5.11.2025) Šťastie praje pripraveným, platí aj v cyklistike. Nórsky tím Uno-X Mobility neskrýval svoje ambície preraziť si cestu do najvyššej cyklistickej ligy. Poctivým zberom bodov sa najskôr prepracoval k pozvánkam na Tour de France, kde tento rok už dokázal aj víťaziť. Okolnosti, ktoré vyústili v zánik tímov Arkéa - B&B Hotels a Intermarché - Wanty (spojenie s tímom Lotto), umožnili Uno-X Mobility zabojovať o World Tour licenciu. Po októbrovej bodovej žatve sa z miestenky medzi elitou môže tešiť nórsko-dánska zostava.

Lachlan Morton joins me to share why he stepped out of the WorldTour peloton to ride his own path—swapping podiums for gravel, bikepacking, and real adventure. We dig into joy over metrics, why enjoyment is essential for long-term participation, and how performance culture can overshadow the ride. Lachlan talks ultra cycling resilience, the camaraderie of bikepacking, and how filming can distort authenticity. Justin Timberlake BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Justin Timberlake has made headlines this week for both personal and professional reasons that are reverberating well past the usual celebrity chatter. Most significantly, International Business Times reports that Timberlake has taken a firm public stance in support of Britney Spears amid her very public dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline. Federline's tell-all memoir You Thought You Knew paints Spears as unstable, with claims ranging from drug use to reckless behavior with their children. Timberlake has privately condemned Federline's actions as opportunistic and “despicable,” according to insider sources, expressing genuine sympathy for Spears as she faces yet another round of public scrutiny. While their history is famously fraught—Spears revealed in her own memoir The Woman in Me that Timberlake encouraged her to have an abortion when they dated as teens—he reportedly still harbors a soft spot and is disturbed to see her subjected to what he believes is ongoing exploitation. Fans and the entertainment press are weighing these revelations closely, aware of the considerable legacy both artists share.Professionally, Timberlake's business activity remains robust. The Austin Business Journal just confirmed that The Twelve Thirty Club, the upscale restaurant and bar concept Timberlake co-owns with hospitality impresario Sam Fox, is set to open a new location in Austin. This marks another strategic expansion for the brand, already a staple in Nashville's nightlife scene. Restaurant news outlets consider this a noteworthy addition to Austin's rapidly evolving downtown dining landscape.Meanwhile, his public appearances continue to attract scrutiny. Global News reports that both Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel have spoken out to address persistent rumors swirling around their marriage, attempting to dispel tabloid narratives and assert that their relationship is solid, though specific details remain guarded. On the concert front, Timberlake's Forget Tomorrow World Tour has been the subject of viral speculation after a video emerged showing him with bloodshot eyes on stage in Las Vegas, just weeks before his high-profile drunk driving arrest in the Hamptons. However, Telegrafi reports, citing TMZ, that insiders insist Timberlake was sober during that show and that his appearance was due to fatigue and the demands of touring, not substance use. Nevertheless, fans dissecting every frame of concert footage demonstrates just how much his every move is magnified in the current climate of celebrity social media.Amid these personal and professional developments, a Candlelight tribute concert celebrating Timberlake's hits is slated for Tampa next month, underscoring his enduring impact on pop culture and music.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

fWotD Episode 3097: How You Get the Girl Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Monday, 27 October 2025, is How You Get the Girl."How You Get the Girl" is a song by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift from her fifth studio album, 1989 (2014). She wrote it with its producers, Max Martin and Shellback. An electropop and bubblegum pop song, "How You Get the Girl" is a ballad that features acoustic guitar strums and a heavy disco beat. The lyrics find Swift telling a man how to win his ex-girlfriend back after their breakup. Some music critics praised the song as catchy and energetic; they particularly highlighted the chorus and how the track combines acoustic and electronic elements. Less enthusiastic reviews considered the production generic and the lyrics lightweight. "How You Get the Girl" charted on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart in the United States and on the Canadian Hot 100 chart in Canada. It received certifications in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Swift included "How You Get the Girl" in the set list of the 1989 World Tour (2015), with choreography that evoked the musical film Singin' in the Rain (1952). She performed it on some dates of her later tours, the Reputation Stadium Tour (2018) and the Eras Tour (2023–2024). The track was used in a Diet Coke advertisement prior to its release.Following a 2019 dispute regarding the ownership of her back catalog, Swift re-recorded the song as "How You Get the Girl (Taylor's Version)" for her fourth re-recorded album, 1989 (Taylor's Version) (2023). She produced the new version with Christopher Rowe. Music critics believed that the re-recording had a vibrant sound and an enhanced production quality. The track reached number 29 on the Billboard Global 200 chart and the top 40 on the national charts of Canada, New Zealand, and the United States. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:14 UTC on Monday, 27 October 2025.For the full current version of the article, see How You Get the Girl on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Joanna.
3. Social Commentary, Goddard, and The Great Dictator Scott Eyman Charlie Chaplin versus America: When Art, Sex, and Politics Collided Chaplin's 1931–1932 world tour revealed global squalor, which drove his social commentary in Modern Times. The film's politics concerned the FBI, though Chaplin was extremely wealthy and privately mocked radical labels. He lived with Paulette Goddard for ten years, fabricating a marriage and sham divorce to aid her career. Chaplin self-financed all his major features, including The Great Dictator. He delayed making sound pictures because he believed the Tramp should not speak, thereby preserving his character's universality. 1918

Paige was sidelined from the season after she was hit by a car a couple of months ago, but as a Bentonville resident, she knows the route better than anyone, including the pros who had planned to race the 100-mile route before it was scrapped for the completely different 50-mile route at the last minute. They talk about the many-sided tactical battle in the women's race and how wild card rider Cam Jones managed to outfox three-time Grand Prix champion Keegan Swenson and former WorldTour rider Simon Pellaud to take the series overall title. Spoiler alert: the fireworks started long before that bunch sprint for the finish. Plus, Paige talks about her injury and how she's hoping to turn the trauma of the accident into advocacy for rider safety on the roads. Warning, geeks inbound. This week, Dave and Ronan catch up to discuss WorldTour rumours and a few of the bigger stories in tech. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP It's been a long season, but we're here, we've made it, it's the final pod of 2025! I'm joined by EF sports director, Tom Southam, and Jayco Alula pro cyclist - and Aussie national road champion - Luke Durbridge, for one last Race Communique to wrap up the podcasting year. I wanted to kick off by running through the season we've just witnessed. There's so much racing going on from January at the Tour Down Under right the way through to Lombardia just last week, it's easy to forget just how great the racing has been. Durbo, Southam, and I discuss our favourite wins of the year - some quite obvious ones and some that you might have forgotten about. Then, we go through some quick-fire awards: best kit, worst kit, most overhyped rider, biggest loss to the peloton, and more! Of course, we've got our regular PeloChat - where Durbo rounds up all the retiring riders this year - and Talking Tactics - where old mate Southam gives us the final scores on the doors for this year's relegation battle, which was thrilling right down to the final day of racing. What does WorldTour promotion mean for UnoX? We'll have to wait and see… But, for the season finale, I wanted to give the CommuniQuiz WorldTour status for this episode and let my guests…I mean co-hosts…take a segment each. This is a bumper quiz that's peppered throughout the episode, so listen closely and play along at home. Guys, the monthly Communiques have been a real highlight of the year for me. Catching up with Southam and Durbo, having a yarn about the racing, and - of course - some great banter has been great fun, and I hope you can hear how much we love recording these episodes. Thanks to Tom Southam and Luke Durbridge for joining me every month for these episodes. Their insight and expertise makes the Communique, and I can't wait to have them back after the off-season to kick off 2026. Guys, it's been a hell of a year. Thanks for listening to the Race Communique and all the other podcasts we put out here at Life In The Peloton. Put your feet up tans crack a few frothier this winter, and I'll speak to you next season. The Race Communiqué is brought to you by TrainingPeaks! Track, plan, and train smarter - just like the pros. Get 20% off TrainingPeaks Premium now at trainingpeaks.com/litp I'll be heading to Adelaide this January for the Santos Tour Down Under - chasing the racing, riding the bunches in the morning, and soaking up all the summer vibes the city has to offer. Hope to see you there.
The World Tour season comes to an end, so we look back at our early season equipment takes to see if they held up. While Chris gives his Gran Fondo World Championships report after his 4th place finish.
We run through the year and give out a lot of 1s.

The Monument season ended at the weekend in time-honoured fashion, with il Lombardia, and its now traditional denouement of a Tadej Pogačar victory. What more can anyone say about Pogačar's extraordinary domination? As ever, we at least try to dig out new superlatives, this week with Daniel Friebe, Lionel Birnie and TNT's voice of cycling, Rob Hatch. We've got other reflections from Lombardy, including on Quinn Simmons' remarkable performance and Redbull-Bora-hansgrohe's struggles. There's also the usual round-up of some of the week's most eye-catching news stories, including the latest on Derek Gee and the battle for survival in the WorldTour.
