Point Center with James Parker takes an introspective look at youth sports and college athletics through a variety of angles. Kobe Bryant would always say to me “Sports is the ultimate metaphor for life.” Basketball teaches us a lot of things about each other and life. Discussions will revolve around the values and skills it takes to be successful in sports, and how those values and skills apply to our lives. Through a host of interviews with knowledgeable experts in their fields, I will dive into topics like skill development, athletic performance, strength, conditioning, mental aspects, leadership, branding, recruiting and more.

Chris Simmons is a former international professional basketball player that has been involved with player development and Nike travel basketball program TN Flight for almost ten years. His wife, Alex Simmons is the head women's basketball coach at Gardner Webb. I have known and worked with Chris at elite basketball camps around the country for the past eight years. Both of us have had awesome opportunities to work with some of the best prep girls' basketball players in the country and in college. We share a lot in common, in that we implement game like, transitional drills, and exercises that adhere to strong fundamentals into our program. What I mean by that, is we take what's most important in player development, use drills and train what is most likely going to transfer to on the court play, per individual. We take facets of the game, how the game is played, how individuals move and perform in a game and through repetition train those aspects. Neither of us necessarily promote our training or chase clients. We are selective with the players we workout and are fully invested in each individual. We pour into our clients on all aspects including mentoring, mental aspects of performance, teaching and learning the game.
