The real threat of AI-enabled fraud might not be what you think – hear from an expert on what you need to be focusing on right now. Detailed Summary: In this episode of the Finovate podcast, host Greg Palmer interviews Christopher D'Aprile, Director of Business Development at PrivacyGuard, following his keynote presentation at FinovateFall. D'Aprile brings over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, having worked at major institutions including MBNA Bank, NASCAR, Allstate, and Kobe Marketing before joining PrivacyGuard. The conversation centers on the growing threat of identity theft and how financial institutions can better protect their customers in an increasingly digital landscape. The discussion reveals alarming trends in identity theft rates, which typically hover around 9-10% but spiked to 12-13% during the pandemic due to increased digital banking adoption and government money transfers. Chris explains that while deepfakes capture public attention, the real AI-driven threat lies in fraudsters becoming more efficient at targeting victims through sophisticated data analysis and demographic profiling. Rather than focusing on complex deepfake technology, criminals are using AI to identify vulnerable populations and optimize their scam operations, treating fraud as a business with the same analytical approaches legitimate companies use for marketing. The conversation goes on to highlight critical gaps in how financial institutions approach identity theft protection. While many banks provide educational resources on their websites, D'Aprile emphasizes that identity theft restoration is too complex for a DIY approach and requires professional assistance. He advocates for banks to partner with specialized third-party providers like PrivacyGuard to offer comprehensive, white-labeled solutions that can generate revenue while providing customers protection at reduced costs. Looking forward, Chris discusses emerging features including scam protection, data scrubbing services, reimbursement for stolen funds, and offensive capabilities that allow consumers to report fraudulent websites for takedown, giving victims the ability to "punch back" against criminals. In this episode of SportsLifeTalk: You Got Next, Head Coach KT and B Jones sit down with Maddie to talk about her journey from small Catholic school gyms to the spotlight of Illinois high school basketball. Her story is one of determination, community, and proving that hard work always finds a way to shine.Maddie's basketball story began the old-fashioned way — on neighborhood courts, playing with friends and being coached by her parents. From the moment she realized she could outplay everyone else on her team, the fire was lit.“I started to realize I could beat everyone, and it gave me a little chip on my shoulder,” she laughs. That early competitive edge would go on to define her style — tough, fearless, and confident.Whether she's draining jumpers, locking down defenders, or controlling the boards, Maddie plays every possession with purpose.“One of my favorite things is getting a big block,” she says. “It's about setting the tone.”Her game mirrors that of UConn's Paige Bueckers, who Maddie admires for her ability to do it all — score, pass, rebound, and lead. It's a comparison that makes perfect sense, because Maddie isn't limited by position or labels. She's simply a basketball player, and a darn good one.At Loyola Academy, earning minutes means competing against elite talent every single day. That challenge is exactly what Maddie loves about it.“To get on the court, you have to prove yourself every day,” she says. “It's what makes Loyola special.”And when it's rivalry week? Maddie locks in even more. She thrives on silencing opposing crowds and embracing the pressure that comes with the big stage. “I love away games,” she says with a grin. “It's the best feeling when the gym goes quiet.”Maddie sharpens her skills with Full Package Athletics, one of the top AAU programs in the Midwest. From the first day she joined, she knew it was home.“The intensity was exactly what I needed,” she recalls. “It pushed me to another level.”Under the guidance of Coach Steve Pratt, Maddie has continued to evolve — adding layers to her game, learning leadership, and mastering the details that separate good players from great ones.Every athlete has a defining moment — that game that changes everything. For Maddie, it came against her school's fiercest rival, Maine South.Early in the game, she sprained her ankle. Most players would've sat out. Maddie? She stayed in, scored 30 points, and led Loyola to victory.“I wasn't coming out,” she says. “I had to be there for my team.”That performance cemented her reputation as one of Illinois' fiercest competitors — and a player who leads with both toughness and heart. As she heads into her junior season, Maddie's focus is crystal clear: win a state championship, earn All-Conference and All-State honors, and continue chasing her dream of playing college basketball.“I'm looking for a program that values team basketball and lets me be versatile,” she says. “I want to keep growing as a player and as a person.”With her work ethic, leadership, and natural instinct for the game, there's no doubt — college coaches are watching. When the sneakers come off, Maddie is all about balance. She loves movie nights, beach days with friends, and exploring downtown Chicago's food scene. Her go-to spot? La Scarola, an Italian restaurant known for its pasta fazool and family atmosphere.“I'm a homebody at heart,” she admits. “I just love good food and being around the people I care about.”Maddie gives major credit to her parents and her AAU coach, Steve Pratt.“My mom and dad do everything — from driving me to practice to cheering me on,” she says. “And Coach Steve? He's pushed me to be my best.”It's that foundation of love and accountability that continues to fuel her growth.

As a prelude to the Ten Across Convergence in Jacksonville coming up on October 22nd—where insurability planning will be a focal topic—we're sharing a conversation Charlie Sidoti and Stephen Brandt, founders of the nonprofit InnSure. Concerned about the risk protection gap growing with climate change in the U.S., these two have applied their combined decades of insurance industry expertise to form a professional network dedicated to developing insurance products that support—and therefore incentivize—communities' proactive fight against the risks they face.  Ten Across participants are well-aware of disaster recovery costs soaring in this part of the country. Between 2020 and 2022, State Farm and Allstate dropped a shocking 2.8 million insurance policies in fire-prone areas of California—yet Florida and Louisiana lead the nation with even higher nonrenewal rates. Regulatory reform is struggling to relieve insurers and the insured, and the private market continues to retreat as losses exceed underwriting metrics.  InnSure believes the insurance sector can lead the development of new models that incentivize risk reduction and community-based action—that in fact it must, in order to remain viable as an industry.  In this episode, Charlie Sidoti and Stephen Brandt walk us through the challenges and solutions insurers consider in devising effective products to support climate risk mitigation—a preview to the multi-sector problem-solving work that attendees will undertake at the upcoming 10X Convergence.  Relevant Articles and Resources  Charlie Sidoti: “Running Toward Climate Risk” (InsuranceThoughtLeadership.com, August 2022) “How Shutdown Gridlock Could Impede Disaster Preparedness” (The New York Times, Sept. 2025)  “A Trump Administration Playbook: No Data, No Problem” (The New York Times, Sept. 2025)  REPORT: “Next to Fall: The Climate-Driven Insurance Crisis is Here—And Getting Worse” (Senate Budget Committee, December 2024)  “The risky economics of living without homeowners insurance” (Reuters, March 2024)  Relevant Ten Across Conversations Podcasts  Carolyn Kousky on Using Insurance Models to Drive Positive Change  Checking in with Dave Jones on California's Insurance Outlook  Urban Expert Bill Fulton's Perspective of How LA Can Rebuild Following the Fires  2023 Insurance Series on California, Louisiana, and Florida  CreditsHost: Duke ReiterProducer and editor: Taylor GriffithMusic by: From Now On and Lennon HuttonResearch and support provided by: Kate Carefoot, Rae Ulrich, and Sabine Butler  About our guests:  Charlie Sidoti is executive director of InnSure, a network of insurance professionals and consultants developing innovative industry tools that contribute to the battle against climate risk. Charlie is also a founding coalition partner of GreenieRE, a reinsurance company with a mission to de-risk and unlock capital for clean energy projects. He has more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry.  Stephen Brandt is chief development officer and founding board member of InnSure.
