Gabriel Rangel wrestled at Davenport Assumption and Grand View University. He is now headed into his final collegiate season at reigning NAIA National Champion Life University. It was great catching up with Gabe and getting some insights on his journey!

Sonny Alvarez was just named the new Head Wrestling Coach at Assumption High School. We chat with him a bit about his past in the sport and his plans for the Knights. We are also introduced to a few members of his coaching staff and we find out who will round out the Assumption Wrestling Coaching staff this upcoming season.

Bo Bettinson was recently named Head Coach for the new wrestling program at St. Ambrose University! He wrestled in Iowa in college and is happy to be back in our great state! It was a pleasure to get to know him and we are excited to see him do great things in the Quad Cities and at SAU!
Dustin Caldwell is the head wrestling coach at Clinton High School. He was a 4 sport athlete and 2-time State Qualifier at Clinton. Dustin coaches football at Clinton High as well. In this episode, Dustin shares a lot about his background and insights into the sport of wrestling.
Matt Robertson wrestles at Grandview University. He was a 2-time Iowa High School State Champion for Davenport Assumption. Matt shared a bunch of great stories as well as some really good advice for younger wrestlers in this episode! It was great catching up with him!
Brent Metcalf is an Assistant Wrestling Coach at Iowa State University. He was an undefeated 4-time Michigan High School State Champion for Davison High School before becoming a 2-time NCAA Champion at the University of Iowa. Brent shares some great stories and insights with us in this episode!
Brent Carstensen is the Head Wrestling Coach at Camanche high school. Brent was a State Champion wrestler at Camanche. Brent shared a lot of great insight and thoughts about the sport with us.
Doug Schwab is the Head Wrestling Coach at the University of Northern Iowa. He was an Iowa high school State Champ for Osage before becoming a 3-time All American and NCAA Champion at the University of Iowa. He spent time as an Assistant Coach at Virginia Tech and at the University of Iowa before becoming Head Coach at UNI in 2010.
Lambros Fotos is the United Township High School wrestling Coach. He was an Illinois High School State Champ and 4 time State Placewinner, before wrestling at the University of Illinois.
Jack Wagner was a 3-time Iowa High School State Champion at Bettendorf High School. He is entering his senior year at UNI. It was really great to catch up with Jack and we are excited to follow his upcoming wrestling season!
Jacob Conner is the coach at Davenport North High School. He is entering his 12th season as head coach this upcoming season. We enjoyed talking to him about his background and his philosophies on the sport. He also shared a lot of insights into the recent growth in girls wrestling as well as what we can do to help continue that trajectory.
Josh Dziewa was a PA High School State Champion and 2 time NCAA Qualifier for the University of Iowa. He has spent the past fews seasons coaching at the D1 Collegiate level and recently accepted his first head coaching position, at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, PA. James Ealy is the Head Wrestling Coach at Rock Island Alleman. He was Captain of the 1996 state championship team at Moline High School. He has been an assistant coach at Macomb High School, and Head Coach at Sherrard, Moline, and Alleman.
In a special Father's Day episode, we were joined by Pete and Danny Bush. Pete Bush was the first State Champion at Davenport Assumption and went on to be a National Champion at the University of Iowa. Danny Bush joined his dad as a State Champion at Davenport Assumption, was a NJCAA All American, and completed his competitive wrestling career at Iowa State.
Jake Larsen is the Head Wrestling Coach at Pleasant Valley High School. He was a three-time All-American and NCAA Champion at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. We really enjoyed talking with Jake and he shared some good insights into his wrestling background and perspectives on the sport!
Colton Feller is the Head Wrestling Coach at Maquoketa High School. We enjoyed talking with Colton and hearing about the great things going on in the Maquoketa wrestling program!
Jay Borchel became the 16th 4-time Iowa High School State Champion, while compiling a 163-1 record at Linn Mar High School in Marion Iowa. He went on to become a 2-time All American at the University of Iowa, capping off his Senior year in 2010 as NCAA Champion. We had a blast talking to Jay!
Chris Grant is the Head Wrestling Coach at Fulton High School. It was a pleasure talking to Chris and getting to hear a few of his stories!
Today's episode is with Loras duo Wyatt Wriedt and Matt Randone. Wyatt was a 2 time State Champion at North Scott. Matt was a State Champion at Davenport Assumption. We had a great time talking with these guys and they shared a lot of good stories and wrestling knowledge!
Chris Meineke has been a referee with the Eastern Iowa Wrestling Officials Association for 24 seasons. He has seen a lot of wrestling and has a lot of great stories! We had a great conversation and Chris shared a lot of great perspective about the 3rd guy on the mat!
Byron was a State Champ at Clinton High School, a 3 time NCAA Champ at Wartburg, and is now an assistant Coach at Iowa City West High School.
Matt Ohnemus has been the Head Wrestling Coach of Dewitt Central since 2016. He shares a lot of great insight with us and we really enjoyed talking with him!
Drew Kelly is the Head Wrestling Coach at North Scott High School in Eldridge, Iowa. Coach Kelly was a 3 time Iowa High School State Champion from Charles City and an NCAA Qualifier at UNI.
Tony is the Head Wrestling coach at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. Before coming to Augie, Tony coached at Saint John's University in Minnesota, where he was a national qualifier. While in Minnesota, he also ran the Central Minnesota Wrestling Club, part of the Minnesota Storm program.
Landon was an Iowa High School State Champion from Davenport Assumption. He went on to wrestle at Wartburg College, where he was a 2-time NCAA Champion. During his college career, his Wartburg wrestling teams won an unprecedented 4 consecutive NCAA Championships and 4 consecutive National Dual Championships. Landon is an Assistant Coach at Wartburg, and runs the Burg Training Center in Waverly.
Jon Murray is the head wrestling coach at Geneseo High School. Jon wrestled at Illinois College and in 2012 he was inducted into the Illinois College Sports Hall of Fame. He shares some really good stories and insights with us in this episode.
Julien was a 3 time Iowa High School State Champion from Davenport Assumption. He just finished up an incredibly successful Redshirt season at Iowa State. We really enjoyed talking with Julien and getting to hear a bit about hear background and insights into the sport!
Boone is the 2020 NJCAA National Champion at 285, and he recently announced that he is headed to Rutgers to continue his academic and wrestling career. We had a blast talking to Boone! We talked about his decision to take his talents to New Jersey, and to wrestle in the Big Ten. He has some very good stories, some great advice for younger wrestlers, and an incredible endorsement for the Iowa Central program.
Chuck Yagla was a 2 Time NCAA Champion for the University of Iowa, and a member of the 1980 US Freestyle Olympic Team. We had a great time hearing about Chuck's history in the sport of wrestling and he shares some really great stories and insights with us!
