At the 2019 World Scout Jamboree held in the United States Doug Schwab helped to staff the Spirit of Jamboree Museum. In this interview we talk about his experience and the book he published that documented the once in a lifetime display of Scouting memorabilia from the World Scout Jamboree. The book is a beautiful full color hard back with professional quality pictures of all the displays including the text which tells the story. During the interview Doug shares how the museum project came about with Russell Smart and Rick Bragga leading the charge. During the the interview he thanks many more members of the staff such as Sam Fairchild, Dave Miura, Bob Hannah and more (complete list on the Author's Note page of the book). The effort to assemble this museum onsite was monumental and completely lead by a team of dedicated volunteer Scouters and collectors including several from other countries making it a truly international effort. If you would like to reach out to Doug he shares in the podcast that you can do so at spiritofjamboree@gmail.com. If you can help me get the podcast published every two weeks please consider becoming a Scouting Hot Finds Insider and support the project as a patron at http://www.ScoutingHotFinds.com. I am asking listeners to consider donating as little as $2 per month (which works out to $1 per episode) for me to hire an audio and video editor. My goal is to continue putting out high quality content for the Scout patch collecting hobby and this is a way that I'm asking fellow collectors to chip in to help. You can find all the previous 89 episodes of the podcast dating all the way back to 2011 when it launched at http://www.ScoutPatchCollectors.com. There you will see that I also publish an email newsletter to over 5k collectors several times per week called the Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter. I've been publishing that newsletter since 2010. I live in Charlotte, NC where I am a full time memorabilia dealer, collector, and active volunteer Scouter. You can reach me at Jason@ScoutPatchCollectors.com.

The first episode of the Scouting Hot Finds Radio in almost a year should be the launching pad for a real rebirth of the podcast. I know I am guilty of saying that a few times over the last couple of years but I'm laying down roots to make this podcast sustainable. In this episode you will hear about 3 topics that I think fit with the theme of roots. The first of those is my plans for where I'm going with the Scouting Hot Finds Radio Podcast. It first rolled out in 2011 and so I'm going into year 10 of the podcast with only 89 episodes under my belt. I have figured out a way to make the podcast sustainable on a bi-weekly basis. But that commitment opens the door to part 2 of the podcast where I announce the opening of the Scouting Hot Finds Insiders group on Patreon http://www.scoutinghotfinds.com I have been putting out free content for the Scouting collecting community for more than a decade. Every newsletter, every podcast, every video is totally free. But to make better content on a consistent basis I'm asking for your support. By joining the SHF Insiders you have help me hire an audio editor that will make a bi-weekly schedule for the podcast doable. I end the episode by going way back to my podcast roots. In 2006 I was a featured guest on the original podcast for our hobby, Cloth Talk. With permission from Chris Brightwell I'm rebroadcasting my interview with Tim and Ben talking about eBay in our category 15 years ago - talk about a time capsule! Look for the next episode to drop soon which will be my interview with Doug Schwab on the Spirit of the Jamboree museum at the 2019 World Scout Jamboree.
The program all about TV. Our guests: Doug Schwab, president of Maverick Entertainment and the company's new smart TV product-distributed venture, Maverick Free Black Cinema, and Jacob Navok, showrunner of River Peak, Facebook Watch's groundbreaking interactive competition TV project.

If wrestling had a hometown, Osage, Iowa would be in contention for that honor. The town of about 3500 has produced two Olympic wrestlers and perhaps the first-family of Iowa wrestling. With 6 state titles, 3 Big Ten Championships, 6 All Americans, a national championship, international success, and an Olympian, it is safe a safe bet that the mantle on the Schwab family fireplace has had to be reinforced a few times. Episode 122 brings the youngest Schwab brother, UNI Panther head coach Doug Schwab, to the podcast to tell his stories from on the mat. Mike and Mark Schwab were two very successful wrestlers. Mike was a state champion and Mark was a 4-time state champ, only losing 1 match in high school. Both Mike and Mark were All Americans at UNI. Little brother Doug followed in their footsteps and added one more state title to the family trophy case before going on to wrestle at the University of Iowa. Doug's career as a Hawkeye included 130 wins, 3 Big Ten titles, a national title and 3 time All American honors. Doug continued his career earning a Pan American Games gold, US National Championship, and a trip to the 2008 Bejing Olympics. Schwab's career is now in its second phase as he is the head wrestling coach for the UNI Panthers. After serving as an assistant at Virginia Tech and the University of Iowa under Tom Brands, Schwab took the reins in Cedar Falls in 2010. Since that time, he has helped rebuild the Panther program, with the help of brother Mark, and restore it to one of the top 15 programs in the country. Schwab and his UNI Panthers are now in the Big 12 Conference and UNI had its first national champion, Drew Foster, since 2000.
Meet Doug Schwab, Head Coach of the UNI Panthers.
Behind every good man is usually a good woman. In the case of Northern Iowa head coach Doug Schwab, the saying is an understatement. On Episode 509 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, we'll meet Allyson Schwab, wife of the Panther head coach and mother to four children. We'll go into how Allyson and Doug first met, their travels around the globe, the trials and tribulations of being an athlete's wife, then a coaches wife and all the things that go into managing the chaos of life. There's a lot to dive into here and there's plenty about the twins, the basement battles and Doug's affinity for Mountain Dew. Oh, it’s about that time, it’s about that time, it’s ABOUT THAT TIME! The whistles of college wrestling season didn’t actually blow for the first time on Thursday night, they actually started in September with the California Community Colleges. But the four-year programs and the rest of the junior colleges got underway this week and this is your daily dose of the wrestling scores and more, that’s right, it’s Short Time Shots, the coffee you need for your morning wrestling commute, I’m your host Jason Bryant. Yes, I’m stunned I still have a voice after Budapest. The first Division I dual of the season saw the Chris Bono regime in Madison start with a victory. The 18th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers won four of the last five bouts to pull away from a scrappy Buffalo team 25-12. Connor Brown opened up the dual with a fall, Ben Askren-style, who was actually calling the action live on Flowrestling. Buffalo’s Bryan Lantry scored a solid win at 141-pounds over transfer Tristan Moran, while All-American Evan Wick started the Badger roll with a 14-1 major decision at 165 pounds. Ryan Christensen, Mason Reinhardt and Trent Hillger finished things off down the stretch for Chris Bono’s new squad. In another geographical indicator that college athletic conferences are still bonkers, West Virginia topped Northern Colorado 22-14 in the Big 12 Conference and season opener for both teams. Tim Flynn’s new team fell behind early, but four straight wins saw the Mountaineers rally for the win, thanks to victories by Matthew Schmitt at 133, Joe Wheeling - which is fitting he wrestles for West Virginia - at 141, Christian Monserrat at 149 and Zach Moore at 157. Moore’s locked up the dual win. And out in California, Manny Rivera and his CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners did some wacky stuff, doing a tri-meet on two mats with three rounds each as San Francisco State and Life Pacific went round-robin in a way that is well, interesting. Life Pacific is a brand-new NAIA program in Southern California while San Francisco State is led by second-year head coach and California native Jason Welch. The Gators have a pretty solid coaching staff too there with Ryan Loder, Dom Kastl and Orry Elor. Runners won big, by the way, topping San Francisco State 38-3 and Life Pacific 38-6. San Francisco State beat Life Pacific 39-6. Let’s go back to the whole “new era thing,” shall we? And we’re not talking Boston Red Sox World Series hats here either, Doug Schwab. The Brett Hamm era opened up in a big way as Cornell College trounced Simpson College 51-0 in a battle of two Iowa Division III programs. As you may know, Mike Duroe, the former Cornell College head coach, lost his battle with brain cancer earlier this year. Sixth-ranked Upper Iowa picked up five forfeits and beat undermanned Truman State 56-0. We’re going to give Truman State a bit of a pass here since coach David Schutter and the program raised enough money to keep the program afloat this year after the school announced it was going to drop the sport. Bulldog faithful raised over $81,000 to keep the program rolling. Division III Millikin opened up its season outside with a 45-6 win over NAIA Hannibal-LaGrange. The Big Blue, yes, the BIG BLUE earned seven bonus victories and a forfeit to cruise in their season opener. Keeping it D3, Delaware Valley got up 26-0 after five matches, but actually had to hang on 29-20 over Penn College. Kyle Hillermeier’s win at 184 pounds finally iced it for the Aggies. Division III Alma beat Davenport in a battle of two of Bloodround’s favorite schools in Michigan. Alma’s Jacob Ransom topped Davenport’s Weston DeHaven 7-0 at 285 pounds to give the Scots the 21-16 victory over the Panthers, who are completing their transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. In a dual that featured just three actual individual matches, Arkansas Baptist of the NJCAA topped NAIA Central Baptist 18-15. This isn’t one you really want to promote. Let’s just hope both programs can do a better job of drawing more student-athletes to their respective schools so we don’t have duals with seven forfeits. With some better news in Arkansas, at least for one team, the University of the Ozarks topped Lyon 24-16 in a matchup of two schools from down there. By the way, if you like some dark, twisted stuff - Ozark on Netflix has you covered. I’m almost done with Season 2. Wacky stuff. As far as the dual, well, Ny’Trell Dean had a big fall at 149 to power the Eagles past the Scots. HEY, that’s TWO Scots references tonight - three if you count Tim Flynn, but you can’t count that, since he’s not a Scot anymore. Elsewhere in the NAIA, the Running Eagles of Life beat Truett McConnell 34-10. Omi Acosta has like 90-something wrestlers on his team at Life. Montana State-Northern beat North Idaho 35-3 and in keeping things out west, Clackamas beat Western Wyoming in junior college action 20-18 to extend the Cougars dual meet win streak to 35 in a row. On the women’s side of things, King avenged an early-season loss to Life with a 31-11 win in Marietta. Wins by Ana Luciano at 143 and Rachel Hale at 155 solidified the dual for the Tornado. UNI wrestling's Cooper Moore was a three-time NCAA qualifier at 165 pounds. He battled through injury his junior year but was on track to enjoy the success of his hard work his senior year. He won his first two matches with bonus points and then suffered an injury that ended his college career early in the season. Moore graduated from UNI with a degree in political science and dream of pursuing work in ministry.
JJ Everard transferred to UNI after qualifying for the 2015 Division I NCAA National Championships. Now at a new school, Everard was forced to deal with a lot of adversity. His dad died just before Thanksgiving, and injury foiled his shot at a second trip to the NCAA tournament. He earned the team's Most Courageous Award, given in honor of UNI alum Tim Ascherl.
In high school, Mark Jolcover suffered a severe neck injury that was expected to end his wrestling career. He returned to the mat to compete on the UNI wrestling squad. He did eventually retire from competition, but he continued to be a vital part of the Panther team. He has since graduated and is looking to pursue a career in ministry. He will spend part of his 2017 summer on a mission trip in Africa.
Each UNI wrestling coach gets to pick someone for the Coaches Appreciation Award. Randy Pugh chose graduating senior Jared Bartel. Head coach Doug Schwab includes his own message to the Panther, and Bartel gives his farewell message to fans.
UNI wrestling celebrates a year of hard work at the 2017 banquet. Congratulations to all the award winners.

UNI's Jacob Holschlag and Drew Foster shocked some fans in the 2017 season. Foster had moved up to wrestle at the 184-pound weight class as a redshirt freshman, but very few realized how good he would be as a sophomore. He earned All-America honors at his first NCAA tournament. Redshirt freshman Jacob Holschlag had a similar search for his weight class. He bounced from weight to weight before securing a spot at his first NCAA tournament in the 197-pound weight class in 2017.
The love of wrestling runs deep in Josh Alber’s family. The youngest of three, he has carried on the tradition. Alber’s family is hard to miss at UNI events. They travel long distances through Midwest storms to support the panthers, and that pack will get bigger this summer. Family ties also led Alber’s to compete at UNI. Alber was a four-time state champion at the prep level. He went undefeated with a 177-0 record and became 15th wrestler from Illinois to seize four state championships. He set the Illinois record for most-consecutive wins. Losing was not something he learned in high school. Despite all his success in high school, he redshirted his freshman year at UNI, sitting out team competition.
Sandy Stevens has witnessed how wrestling has saved lives. For 34 years, Stevens was known for announcing the NCAA Division I Championships. She has been the voice at multiple world championships, numerous independent and high school tournaments along with a pair of Olympic games (1984 – Los Angeles; 1996 – Atlanta). She tells the story of how wrestling helped her husband fight cancer and overcome the odds from being raised in a disadvantaged neighborhood.
Meet UNI wrestling redshirt freshmen Max Thomsen and Taylor Lujan. Both earned four state titles. They joined UNI's Josh Alber, who was 177-0 as a high school prep. So how much does that success of four state titles in high school translate into college? Hear from both of the competitors and their coach, Doug Schwab.
