fWotD Episode 3302: Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Wednesday, 20 May 2026, is Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment. The Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment, most commonly known as Rawlings' Regiment in period documents, was organized in June 1776 as a specialized light infantry unit of riflemen in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The American rifle units complemented the predominant, musket-equipped, line infantry forces of the war with their long-range marksmanship capability and were typically deployed with the line infantry as forward skirmishers and flanking elements. Scouting, escort, and outpost duties were also routine. The rifle units' battle formation was not nearly as structured as that of the line infantry units, which employed short-range massed firing in ordered linear formations. The riflemen could therefore respond with more adaptability to changing battle conditions. The Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment consisted of nine companies—four from Maryland and five from Virginia. The two-state composition of the new unit precluded it from being managed through a single state government, and it was therefore directly responsible to national authority as an Extra Continental regiment.Because most of the newly formed regiment surrendered to British and German forces at the Battle of Fort Washington on November 16, 1776, the service history of the unit's surviving element is complex. Although modern and contemporaneous accounts of the battle convey the impression that it marked the end of the regiment as a combat entity, a significant portion of the unit continued to serve actively in the Continental Army throughout most of the remainder of the war. Elements of the regiment served with George Washington's Main Army and participated in the army's major engagements of late 1776 through 1778. Select members of the regiment were also attached to Col. Daniel Morgan's elite Provisional Rifle Corps at its inception in mid-1777. The Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment was reorganized in January 1779 and was stationed at Fort Pitt, headquarters of the Continental Army's Western Department, in present-day western Pennsylvania primarily to help in the defense of frontier settlements from raids by British-allied Indian tribes. The unit was disbanded with all other Additional and Extra Continental regiments during the reorganization of the Continental Army in January 1781. It was the longest serving Continental Army rifle unit of the war. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:07 UTC on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.For the full current version of the article, see Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Salli.

This week your hosts Steve Lowry and Yvonne Godfrey interview Frank Mangiaracina of Kline & Specter PC (https://www.klinespecter.com/).    Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here To Rate and Review   Episode Details: Philadelphia-based personal injury attorney Frank Mangiaracina with Kline & Specter PC discusses how he secured justice for David Coryell, a motorcycle driver involved in an automobile wreck with a delivery driver employed by a Domino's franchise. On July 27, 2016, defendant Steven Morris was driving a delivery vehicle to deliver Domino's food when he made a sudden left turn into oncoming traffic, crashing his vehicle into David and his motorcycle. David suffered severe physical and emotional injuries from this incident. After numerous operations, he was left with the decision to either amputate his left leg or experience permanent and progressive pain. Despite the defense's attempts to claim that Domino's did not have control over a franchisee's operations and therefore could not be held accountable for the actions of a franchisee's employee, Mangiaracina established that Domino's and the franchisee have a “master-servant relationship,” arguing that Domino's did, in fact, have control over the franchisee and therefore should be held responsible. The jury agreed, and on August 13, 2021, a Philadelphia County jury returned a $2,009,553 verdict in favor of plaintiff David Coryell.     Click Here to Read/Download Trial Documents   Guest Bio: Frank Mangiaracina Frank Mangiaracina focuses his practice on catastrophic personal injury. He is a staunch advocate and proven trial lawyer who helped compile more than $60 million in recoveries in the five years before coming to Kline & Specter.  Most recently, in a COVID-era trial during the summer of 2021, Mangiaracina won a $2.1 million verdict against Domino's Pizza for a client who suffered severe and permanent injuries to his leg when his motorcycle was struck by a delivery driver. As co-lead counsel at trial, Mangiaracina gave a closing argument that helped convince the jury that Domino's was responsible for the actions of a franchisee.  He was also co-counsel in litigation that achieved a $44 million pre-trial settlement in a product liability case for an oil rig worker who was left a quadriplegic after he was struck by a falling light fixture.  In medical malpractice cases, among others, Mangiaracina helped win settlements of $5.5 million, $5 million and $3.5 million for, respectively, failures to timely diagnose stroke, diagnose and treat sepsis and to treat an aortic aneurysm.  These recoveries were made with Mangiaracina's prior firm, Sheridan & Murray LLC in Fort Washington, Pa. He also worked as an attorney at Berger & Montague in Philadelphia and as a law clerk with the Philadelphia firm of Saltz, Mongeluzzi & Bendesky.  Because of his litigation success, Mangiaracina has been named a Pennsylvania Rising Star by Super Lawyers for four consecutive years (2019-2022). The independent lawyers survey group recognizes the top 2.5 percent of attorneys in the state who are 40 or younger.  Mangiaracina earned his law degree at the Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude, in the top five percent of his class and was a member of the Order of the Coif honor society. He was, simultaneously, staff editor for the Temple Law Review and a member of Temple's renowned National Trial Team, which placed in the semifinals of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy's “Tournament of Champions,” an invitation-only competition.  At Temple, Mangiaracina won several awards and scholarships, including the Integrated Trial Advocacy Graduation Award, the Benjamin and Natalie Levin Memorial Scholarship, the Class of 1978 Scholarship and the Faculty Law Scholarship. Emanuel Leutze's iconic painting Washington Crossing the Delaware shows the general standing heroically at the bow of his boat, staring toward an unseen enemy across the icy river. But who were those enemies waiting on the other side? They were Hessian soldiers from a small German state called Hesse-Kassel, forced conscripts sent to fight in a war they didn't understand, against democratic principles they were simultaneously being taught to admire back home. These men weren't the drunken barbarians of American mythology, but rather disciplined soldiers—many influenced by Voltaire and Enlightenment ideals—who fought in major battles from Long Island to Fort Washington before their fateful encounter at Trenton. Today's guest is Dr. Steven Bier, author of Facing Washington's Crossing: The Hessians and the Battle of Trenton. Through newly translated German documents, Bier follows three Hessian soldiers through the chaos of December 26, 1776: 17-year-old Private Johannes Reuber, Lieutenant Jakob Piel who desperately tried to wake Colonel Rall as musket fire erupted, and Lieutenant Andreas Wiederhold, whose outpost was the first to spot Washington's approaching army through the snowstorm. Their accounts reveal a human story of confusion, courage, and surprising mercy—including George Washington personally reassuring shivering Hessian officers after their capture that they would be treated with kindness.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode 62 • My Ancestor Survived 1776: Peter Kern and the Pennsylvania Flying CampIn this episode of Patriot Power Podcast, I share the deeply personal story that reshaped how I understand the American Revolution.Peter Kern, my fifth great-grandfather, served in the Pennsylvania Flying Camp during the most dangerous year of the war, 1776. His service placed him in the chaos of the Battle of Long Island, the retreat north under George Washington, the desperate fighting at White Plains, and the collapse of Fort Washington, moments when the Revolution nearly ended before it truly began. This is not a story of famous generals or easy victories. It is the story of ordinary men who endured defeat, retreat, hunger, uncertainty, and the constant threat of capture, then returned home to rebuild their communities when the fighting ended. It is also the story of a family, the Kern brothers, who served in different ways through the Flying Camp and Pennsylvania militia, showing how the Revolution was carried by families and neighbors, not just armies.Standing at Peter Kern's grave and walking through the remains of his grist mill changed history from something I studied into something I inherited. This episode explores that transformation, and why remembering these quieter stories matters just as much as remembering the famous ones.Show Links to Click:1776 BookValley Forge Search By NameALL links below are clickable within your podcast platform, so enjoy!________• Patriot Power Podcast Website• The Young Patriots Series - Children's Book Series• Email Me• TikTok - Patriot Power Freedom Files• InstaGram• YouTube Channel• Meet your Host, Ron Kern_______________Please share this podcast with others and we would love for you to leave a review.Do you have a question, comment or suggestion?  Want to suggest a topic for an upcoming show?  I'd love to hear from you, so get in touch above.

November 16, 1776. George Washington rows toward Manhattan to inspect the fort that bears his name, only to meet a full-scale British assault already underway. By afternoon, Fort Washington has fallen, and General Washington is forced to abandon New York City.  The Continental Army is sick, outnumbered, and demoralized. For a moment, the Revolution seems lost. Facing his worst defeat of the war, Washington himself is questioning their odds. In their new PBS documentary, The American Revolution, Ken Burns and Sarah Botstein set out to tell this version of the Founding Fathers, showing fear, chaos, and uncertainty. They also highlight oft-overlooked characters: the women and children following the army in supporting roles, the Native nations whose decisions shaped the continent, or the enslaved people listening closely to talk of liberty. This week, we talk with Ken Burns and Sarah Botstein about the revelations behind their decade-long project. How did they revisit a story that's been told so many times, it almost feels like a myth? And how does that myth fit into the world today? The American Revolution is a six-part, 12-hour documentary now premiering on PBS. The series is directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David P. Schmidt. It's also narrated by a guest from one of our recent episodes, Peter Coyote. -- Get in touch: historythisweekpodcast@history.com  Follow on Instagram: @historythisweek Follow on Facebook: HISTORY This Week Podcast To stay updated: http://historythisweekpodcast.com To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Nick Sargen, consultant and senior economic advisor at Fort Washington Investment Advisors, says that investors haven't really seen the economic impact of tariffs and other policies that experts were warning the public about, but they are seeing those issues now. "Fasten your seatbelts," Sargen warns, "you're just beginning to see the impacts." While not calling for a recession, Sargen says he sees headwinds for the market because "I don't understand how the market can keep setting record highs every day when now we are confronting major uncertainty."  Carley Garner, senior commodity strategist at DeCarley Trading, says she sees "a lot more downside risk than upside potential" for the market right now, noting that it will be hard for the Standard & Poor's 500 to top 6,500 in the next few months whereas a decline could drop the index "into the low 5,000s." As a result, DeGarner has made her own portfolio particularly defensive, holding "mostly Treasuries" because there is "more risk than reward to be long stocks" now. Further, Garner says it's a "sell-the-rallies market for gold and silver," largely because she expects the gold rally to end -- and for precious metals to potentially take a big fall -- when the dollar gets a little stronger. Plus, Rita Choula, senior director of caregiving for the AARP Public Policy Institute, discusses its Caregiving in the U.S. 2025 study, which showed that more than 63 million Americans are providing ongoing complex care for family members, and that they are sacrificing their financial security, health and well-being in many cases in order to do it.

Washington undertook a tour of the ex-colonies to talk to ordinary citizens about his new government, and to imbue in them the idea of being one thing—Americans. In the fall of 2018, Nathaniel Philbrick embarked on his own journey into what Washington called “the infant woody country” to see for himself what America had become in the 229 years since. Writing in a thoughtful first person about his own adventures with his wife, Melissa, and their dog, Dora, Philbrick follows Washington's presidential excursions: from Mount Vernon to the new capital in New York; a monthlong tour of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island; a venture onto Long Island and eventually across Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. The narrative moves smoothly between the eighteenth and twenty-first centuries as we see the country through both Washington's and Philbrick's eyes. 1812 Fort Washington captured

Sargen says that market observers expecting a soft landing were thinking that situation would allow the Federal Reserve to aggressively cut interest rates; in a no-landing scenario, however, investors should not expect the rapid rate cuts or the big rally that typically comes with a rate-reduction cycle. Today's episode concludes our four-part, pod-class series on mentorship. And what better way to finish than with godly wisdom and inspiration from another one of Heather's favorite online mentors? We're thrilled to welcome Beth Moore to Viral Jesus. Last week, Jo Saxton guided us through practical tips on what mentoring is, and why we need to cultivate environments that allow us to use our gifts. This week, in often emotional chat, Beth helps us to decipher the voice of God and explains why Scripture is crucial to that process. She also encourages all of us to look for opportunities to be mentors, even if we've never had one ourselves. Heather also sits down with our favorite social media expert, Brady Shearer, to learn about the strategy of inspiration over information when it comes to posting online content. Brady is the director of Pro Church Tools and the church-software platform Nucleus. His work focuses on helping churches navigate the biggest communication shift in 500 years. Make sure to let us know your thoughts about this segment by typing in ViralJesusPod on Instagram or Twitter and including #ViralJesus with your comment. Pastor arrested for objecting to drag queen kids’ story hour, Christian host Todd Starnes calls for Biden's impeachment, State Dept. urges Burmese military to release Christian leader

It's Friday, March 3rd, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) State Dept. urges Burmese military to release Christian leader On February 23rd, the U.S. government condemned the Myanmar military's arrest and detention of Baptist leader Hkalam Samson, reports International Christian Concern. Samson is the former head of the Kachin Baptist Convention, a group located in northern Myanmar's Kachin state that represents much of the nation's Christian minority. He was detained in December 2022 by authorities under the military junta that seized power two years ago.   State Department spokesman Ned Price issued this challenge. PRICE: “We condemn the Burma military regime's arrest and detention of prominent ethnic Kachin Christian leader Rev. [Hkalam] Samson. We are extremely concerned for his wellbeing and safety and encourage our partners and allies to join us in calling on the regime to drop all charges and immediately and unconditionally release Rev. Samson.” Pastor arrested for objecting to children's drag queen story hour Yesterday afternoon, Pastor Derek Reimer was arrested by members of the dictatorial Calgary Police Service after being warned the previous day there were two warrants out for his arrest because he protested at a children's drag queen story time at a public library last weekend, reports LifeSiteNews.com. A video, posted online by Rebel News, shows Reimer, who serves as the pastor of Mission7 street ministry, being put into the back of a police cruiser by two female officers. Tucker Carlson of Fox News described the scene that had been videotaped by Rebel News, one of the few conservative Canadian outlets. CARLSON: “The pastor, sitting in a car with bars on the windows, getting hauled away to jail for being thrown to the ground at Drag Queen Story Hour.” Before the Canadian policewoman raised the rear window of the cop car in which Reimer was detained, he said, “This is what happens when we go against the drag queens.”  She was able to cut off the last word of his sentence. (Watch this video between 1:28 and 1:37.) Listen. REIMER: “This is what happens when you go against drag [queens.]” This past Saturday, Reimer had been protesting at a kids' Drag Queen Story Time event held at the Seton Calgary public library. Outrageously, the pastor was ruffed up and thrown to the ground for simply verbally opposing the sexualization of children at taxpayers' expense. Ezra Levant, Founder of Rebel News, appeared with Tucker Carlson on Fox News. LEVANT: “Tucker, you have done more journalism on Christian pastors being jailed in Canada than most Canadian media. In fact, the Canadian media either ignore it or cheer it on, calling these people bigots.” He explained who inspired the arrest of Pastor Reimer. LEVANT: “The Left wing mayor of Calgary, [Jyoti Gondek], went on a Twitter rant saying that anyone who lies or engages in vitriol or is full of hate should be arrested and charged. Now, those aren't crimes, by the way. Some of them are a matter of opinion. I could think that the mayor is full of hate. But after the mayor basically directed police to arrest peaceful protesters, they did.” Isaiah 5:20 says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil." You can send a polite email of objection to Calgary Mayor Gondek through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. If you'd like to help with the legal expenses of getting Pastor Derek Reimer out of jail after being falsely arrested, you can make a donation at SavePastorDerek.com. Plus, you can encourage Pastor Reimer with a 1-2 sentence email. derek@mission7ministries.com (7 is the number) Christian host Todd Starnes calls for Biden's impeachment As the Conservative Political Action Conference got underway yesterday in Fort Washington, Maryland, Christian talk show host Todd Starnes, in a sit-down conversation on stage with Republican Congressman Ralph Norman of South Carolina, called for the impeachment of President Joe Biden. STARNES: “I know that Speaker McCarthy said a couple of months back that he's seen nothing that Biden's done that would be worthy of impeachment.  But it seems violating the oath of office and not protecting this nation from enemies foreign and domestic, letting that balloon invade our airspace, that is worthy of impeachment.” Lesbian Chicago mayor defeated Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who made headlines a couple of years ago when she became the first black woman and first homosexual to lead the Windy City, has lost reelection, reports The Christian Post.  She entered into a faux marriage with Amy Eshelman in 2015 when it was first possible to do so. On Tuesday, Lightfoot came in third place, finishing behind long-serving public school official Paul Vallas and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson. Vallas, who ran on a staunchly pro-police platform, and Johnson, who had strong backing from liberals and labor unions, will square off in a runoff mayoral election on April 4. FCA ships $1 million of sports equipment to Ukrainian coaches and athletes And finally, Fellowship of Christian Athletes is partnering with Convoy of Hope to send a full shipping container which includes 40 pallets of sports equipment to Ukraine. The total value of the materials is over $1 million. Sasha Aleksandrov, FCA Ukraine Director, said, “Because of the war, sports equipment has been destroyed or abandoned.” Hundreds of FCA staff, volunteers, and donors came together from across America to donate new and used equipment for Ukrainian coaches and athletes. Andriy Kravtsov said, “My heart is full of joy because I see the goodness of God through faithful and generous people.” Acts 20:35 says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, March 3rd, in the year of our Lord 2023. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.
