National Coach of the Year Donny Pritzlaff on how Columbia cracked the top 20 — without NIL, without a fancy facility, and without recruiting through the transfer portal. He breaks down the Cesar Alvan recruiting story, why he hired an "all iron fist" staff, and the recruiting philosophy that targets development over star power.Guest: Donny Pritzlaff, Head Coach at Columbia Wrestling, 2026 NWCA Coach of the Year, two-time NCAA Champion at WisconsinTopics: Building a development program, recruiting without NIL, coaching to a wrestler's natural style, hiring assistant coaches, Cesar Alvan's All-American run, Ivy League wrestling
2024 Olympian David Johnston recently announced his transfer from Texas to the University of Florida. The NCAA Champion explained there were 3 big reasons why he chose to leave Austin for Gainesville. One was plain and simple: the money. Johnston acknowledges that he didn't plan to be competing in the NCAA this long and sees why some would call it unfair. However, with the rules being what they are and new NIL opportunities sprouting up, Johnston wanted to go somewhere that could offer him income that could potentially supplement his future as he strives to qualify for the 2028 USA Olympic team, and it just so happened that UF was that place. In this conversation, Johnston is exceedingly honest about the fact that he is doing what is best for his career with this move, not only in the short term but moving toward LA28. In Gainesville, he will be training with arguably the best distance group in the world, swimming alongside Katie Ledecky, Bobby Finke, Ahmed Jaouadi, and Ahmed Hafnaoui, to name a few. He also opens up about dealing with the shoulder injury that sidelined him for the entire 2025-26 NCAA season.

And in our weekly gear segment, we head to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, for a look at they steps required to go from designing your dream gear on one of the many recently launched customizers, to making sure it fits your body and your game, and placing that custom order.

She's also a published author, co-writing How She Did It with Olympian Molly Huddle — a powerful collection of stories and advice from elite female runners — and is currently working on her next book focused on pregnancy and running. Today, she continues to mentor young athletes as a middle school coach and through her Nike Camp Elevate in Prescott, helping runners from across Arizona and beyond develop not just performance, but confidence, balance, and a lifelong love of the sport. Not to mention she's the parent of two children who are very active in athletics. Today, we're diving into what it really means to support young athletes — and how to create a positive, healthy experience for both kids and parents along the way. Garrett Kaalund of USC is the newly crowned 2026 NCAA indoor champion in the 200m. We discuss his transfer from Nebraska over to USC last year and the changes he has made to training which has led to all this success. Garrett also shares some of his favorite sprint races throughout history and gets super analytical with each of them including races from Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, Asafa Powell and Noah Lyles. And finally, he shares his goals for the 2026 outdoor season, which includes possibly winning 4 titles. -------------------------------------------
In this episode, we recap the DII NCAA Championships and women's DI results, focusing on the biggest takeaways from both meets. At DII, highlighting the NCAA Champions and amazing stories that came from the week! The standout divers were the ones who stayed composed and delivered in the middle rounds. On the women's DI side, the level was extremely high. The top finishers showed control, handled pressure well, and didn't let one mistake affect the rest of their list. Small details made a big difference in placement. Overall, both meets showed the same thing—success in March comes from consistency, control, and trusting your training.
Rob and Kelvin tell us if it’s fair to call Shai Gilgeous-Alexander one of the villains of the NBA, and explain why sports teams and athletes should not feel obligated to accept invitations to the White House. Plus, NCAA national champion and ACC Network analyst Joel Berry II swings by to discuss the Hubert Davis era at North Carolina, the perception that young players struggle in March Madness more than veterans, which teams are most likely to win the NCAA Tournament, and much more!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How does a team go from never making NCAA Nationals… to becoming D2 national champions? That's what I wanted to understand in this episode, when I sat down with Wingate Head Coach @poldomenechf In 2021 Wingate had never made the national championships. Two years later they won the whole thing. What fascinated me wasn't just the result- it was the system behind it.We talked about building belief in athletes who weren't big recruits, the role of aerobic development and threshold training, and how they've created a culture where athletes just keep improving year after year. We also spoke about the NCAA pathway for young runners- something a lot of Australian athletes are curious about. There's a lot of wisdom in this one. If you enjoy conversations about coaching, development, and the culture of distance running, I think you'll really enjoy this episode. Out now on the Run Culture Podcast.Episode 200 I might add!! Now, that's 200 conversations more wiser than when I started this project. If you enjoyed this chat and are interested to find out more or follow Wingate College's progress over the coming years be sure to go to @wingatexctf

Carsten Vissering was an absolute force during his time in the pool. Breaking national high school and age records as a teenager, he went on to swim for the University of Southern California in college. As a Trojan, Vissering won an NCAA title in 2018 as a part of the 200 medley relay and 2 Pac-12 Titles. Once Vissering walked away from swimming, though, he wasn't done with elite sport. After aquatic retirement, Vissering still wanted to compete and ended up stumbling into bobsledding in 2022. He made the US national team and worked his way up the ranks until, earlier this month, he qualified for the 2026 US Olympic team. Vissering will compete next month in Milan Cortina dawning the Red, White, and Blue. SwimSwam sat down with the now winter athlete to discuss what training, competition, and the mental side of bobsledding is all about. Vissering details the nuances and hardships of the sport. He also tells his personal side of the story, sharing his drive to still compete, the will to learn and grow in a new sport, and the balance it takes to be a full-time athlete and work at a Big Four consulting firm.

In this episode of The Jimmy Rex Show, Jimmy sits down with one of college basketball's true legends — Coach Jim Harrick, the mastermind behind UCLA's 1995 national championship team. With a career spanning over two decades, Harrick reflects on his incredible journey through high school gyms, Pepperdine, UCLA, and beyond, sharing insights into leadership, recruiting, and the timeless lessons he learned from his mentor, the great John Wooden.Coach Harrick opens up about the values that guided his teams — teamwork, discipline, and faith — and why the “John Wooden system” remains one of the most brilliant frameworks in sports. From stories about the O'Bannon brothers and Tyus Edney's famous full-court game-winner to his thoughts on the NIL era and the collapse of the Pac-12, this conversation is a masterclass in coaching wisdom and integrity. "Mediocrity works fine until it meets passion" says a favorite sign on the wall of this week's guest, on for the third time, Jenny Levy. Everytime she joins us we are blown away by what she shares. This week is no exception. Jenny is a 4x NCAA champion coach for the University of North Carolina Women's lacrosse program, including winning the 2025 championship. She is a 3x NCAA coach of the year, 8x ACC coach of the year, former Team USA head coach, and both the National and International Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee. Heading into 2026 she has 443 wins (2nd all time) and has led the Tar Heels to 14 Final Fours. What makes Jenny most special, however, is her curiosity and authentic, relationship based leadership model. This week she shares with us the importance of failing forward as part of the Tar Heel culture, how she recruits players who are a good fit for the program, and how the selfish players get spit out if they do not become players who learn to give to the team. We discuss the importance of building relationships through casual conversations rather than long meetings, how winning is a by product of the journey, and so much more. Unstoppable: Anthony Robles on Defying the Odds and Dominating the Mat In this week's episode of the Team Never Quit Podcast, Marcus, Melanie, and Hunter welcome NCAA wrestling champion and three-time All-American Anthony Robles. Born with one leg, Anthony refused to let his circumstances define him, instead rewriting the rules of perseverance and grit to capture the 2011 NCAA Wrestling Championship for Arizona State University—earning the nickname “The Beast.” Anthony's story of resilience has inspired millions, chronicled in his autobiography Unstoppable and the upcoming feature film of the same name. Beyond the mat, he has built a powerful platform as a motivational speaker, Nike athlete, and member of President Obama's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition, as well as a respected NCAA wrestling analyst for ESPN and the Pac-12 Network. In this conversation, Anthony shares the mindset that propelled him to the top of collegiate wrestling as well as lessons on perseverance, faith, and unlocking hidden potential. Anthony Robles' journey is a testament to the phrase “never quit,” proving that true strength lies in heart and determination. Tune in for a powerful dose of inspiration from a man who embodies the spirit of resilience. In this episode you will hear: • My mom always told me growing up that God made me this way for a reason. (3:26) • Every single challenge I've faced was a puzzle. I could figure it out. There's nothing that I couldn't do. (3:35) • She [My mom] would say “You never let a challenge become an excuse to say I can't do it.” (6:15) • I had frustration and rage in me, but I was able to channel that, and use it for wrestling. (7:43) • If I quit now, I'm proving a lot of people right. (7:56) • I don't know where I'd be right now without those individuals who did support me. (12:19) • My goal in my junior year was nothing but state champion. (13:26) • I received a stack of letters from a group of 3rd graders who were shown the movie. They were writing me as their hero of the week. That, for me, opened my eyes to finally understand that I was wrestling for a bigger cause and a bigger purpose than just a bracket or a medal to put around my neck. (22:05) • I don't want to look back with regret thinking “Man, I wish I had done more.” (26:57) • I want my son to look up to me and say “I want to be like my dad one day.” (27:25) • [My mom] was the best coach I could have ever asked for in my life. (31:21) • My message is the word “Unstoppable”. It's the fact that we all wrestle with a challenge, (39:10) • If you're unchallenged, you're unchanged. (39:50) • [Marcus] “Man, you don't have a message – you ARE the message.” (40:07) • Greatness is not measured by trophies; it's not measured by getting first place. It's just knowing you gave your very best. Today's guest is Boo Schexnayder. Irving “Boo” Schexnayder is a world-class coach and consultant with over 44 years of experience in track and field. Renowned for producing 26 NCAA Champions and 8 Olympic/World Championship medalists, he co-founded Schexnayder Athletic Consulting and founded the Track and Field Academy. A former LSU coach and USA Track and Field leader, Boo's expertise in biomechanics and training design extends to multiple sports, making him a sought-after mentor worldwide. It's common to think that, as time moves forward in any discipline, that discipline becomes better. What seems to define much of athletic performance and sport itself is that outputs become the priority while movement quality and literacy become watered down. On today's podcast, Boo gives wisdom into the process of comprehensive athletic development by leaning into general strength and movement training. He goes over his movement batteries, scramble circuits, training diversity, and tempo sprints. Boo also gives his take on the use of supramaximal eccentrics, covers hamstring injury prevention strategies, and discusses his sprint-float-sprint protocols, alongside a sea of further training wisdom. What to try: Keep general strength simple—circuits that are easy to teach, scalable, and repeatable. Don't let weight room complexity replace basic movement skill. Revisit older methods (hurdle mobility, med ball throws) that build coordination without heavy stress. 28:47 – Adding multi-directional work for linear athletes Even linear sprinters benefit from “scramble” circuits and agility-oriented elements. Boo stresses that multi-directional tasks improve coordination, robustness, and adaptability. What to try: Sprinkle in agility, shuffles, and lateral bounds for athletes who train mostly linear. Build circuits that force athletes to problem-solve movement, not just run straight lines. Think “movement quality first”—variety pays off long term. 37:18 – Managing tempo volume for higher intensity Boo highlights that loading too much tempo work flattens intensity. Athletes need tempo in the right amount—enough for conditioning, not so much that it dulls speed. What to try: Keep tempo volumes moderate so athletes can still sprint fast on quality days. Use tempo as restoration or rhythm training, not just mileage. Remember: more work doesn't equal better adaptation—protect intensity. 47:24 – Short sprints on low days to cap tissue load Boo explains that short 10m sprints can safely live on “low” days—they maintain speed exposure without frying the system. What to try: Program 2–3 sets of short accelerations on low CNS days.

“I'd been working so hard for this and had so much conscious energy going into winning this title and putting it all out there — my last attempt, last ditch effort. We've got to just win this thing. You could see it after in the photos. I was almost crying. I was so relieved, so happy, and so proud of the work that I've done.”My guest for today's episode is Nathan Green. In one of the most tactical and tightly contested NCAA 1500m finals in recent memory, Nathan Green emerged with more than just a lean at the finish line; he walked away with his second NCAA title, and perhaps more meaningfully, cemented Washington's 1500m legacy as one of the most dominant in NCAA history. He closed in 51.46 seconds to edge out UNC's Ethan Strand. In a blanket finish that saw 11 of the top 12 finishers within less than a second of each other, it was the kind of race that required patience, poise, and a final lap gear that few possess — and Green had it all to pull it off.But this wasn't just another tactical win. This was also a passing of the torch moment. Joe Waskom and Luke Houser have moved on to the professional ranks — and Nathan, who calls him his older brothers, carried the legacy forward. With this win, Washington becomes the first school to win six of the last seven NCAA 1500m and mile titles — a stretch powered by three athletes who have each won two. That's Joe Waskom, Luke Houser, and now Nathan Green.Today, we talk with Nathan about what this title means to him, the pressure and pride of carrying the UW streak forward, how he nearly dove at the finish line, whether or not his coach actually yelled, ‘jump,' and what's next as he turns pro and stays in Seattle under coach Andy Powell.Hosts: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Nathan Green | @nathanrgreen on InstagramSUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Olipop is a prebiotic soda that tastes like a throwback to your favorite childhood drinks, but it's loaded with benefits that your body will thank you for.
