What happens when a 6'3" powerhouse turns her competitive fire into coaching excellence? Meet Coach Annalese Lamke, one of women's basketball's rising stars and an assistant coach at Loyola University Maryland. From her small-town Wisconsin roots to her Big Ten grind at the University of Minnesota, and now mentoring the next generation of athletes, Coach Lamke's story is all about resilience, gratitude, and joy in the journey. In this episode of SportsLifeTalk: You Got Next, Head Coach KT and B Jones sit down with Annalese to talk about her path from player to coach, the lessons she learned at every stage, and how she's helping shape Loyola's winning culture—one possession at a time.Born and raised in Galesville, Wisconsin (population 1,600), Annalese Lamke fell in love with basketball early. She used to sneak onto the court during her older brother's timeouts just to shoot around—planting the seeds of a lifelong passion for the game.“Basketball is a gift,” she says. “Even as a kid, I just wanted to play and be part of it.”That drive led her to become a standout at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School, before earning her way to the University of Minnesota, where she'd represent the Gophers on one of college basketball's biggest stages. At Minnesota, Annalese's role wasn't always about the spotlight—it was about growth. Despite limited playing time, she earned multiple Big Ten All-Academic honors, showing that excellence isn't defined by minutes played but by mindset.“If I wasn't going to shine on the court, I was going to excel in the classroom,” she recalls. That dedication and discipline became the bedrock of her coaching philosophy—control what you can, give your best, and lift others while you climb. After college, Lamke jumped into the coaching world as a Director of Basketball Operations (DOBO) under Coach Danielle O'Banion at Loyola Maryland. It was her introduction to the behind-the-scenes grind of college basketball.“Buses were my biggest rival,” she laughs. “You haven't lived until you've had to rebook travel for 15 people at 2 a.m.”Those long nights built her confidence, attention to detail, and leadership skills. It wasn't long before Coach O'Banion promoted her to Assistant Coach, where Lamke's charisma, work ethic, and player-first approach made her an immediate asset to the program. At Loyola, Coach Lamke has helped create a culture built on toughness, energy, and authenticity. Her philosophy centers on “chips and ships”—players who have chips on their shoulders and the championship mindset to back it up.“We want athletes who are tough, resilient, and ready to prove themselves every single day,” she says. Under her guidance, the Greyhounds are pushing the tempo, defending hard, and playing with heart. When she's not scouting talent or breaking down film, you'll find Coach Lamke exploring Baltimore's food scene. Her go-to spots? Nick's Fish House for crab cakes and Kisling's Tavern for honey Old Bay wings. “The food here is next-level,” she says. “I'm working my way through the menu!”Outside of basketball, she's all about keeping perspective—enjoying downtime, connecting with her players, and reminding herself why she fell in love with the game in the first place. While Annalese hopes to one day return to her alma mater as a coach, she's not rushing the process. “I'm staying where my feet are,” she says. “I love what I do and who I get to do it with. That's what matters most.”With her humor, humility, and heart, Coach Lamke is proving that leadership isn't about titles—it's about impact. How Annalese turned self-doubt into confidenceThe behind-the-scenes stories from her DOBO daysWhat “chips and ships” means for her team's mindsetThe lessons she's teaching the next generation of players

Ethan Quinn is entering his 5th season as a Men's Basketball Assistant Coach at Denison University in 2025-26. Last season the Big Red recorded a program-record 24 victories, propelling them to their first-ever NCAC regular season championship title. They finished the season ranked #18 in the country. Denison earned an automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships by winning the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. Quinn previously spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the men's basketball program at Ohio Dominican University. He has had a unique journey getting into the college basketball world after being a college football player for four years at Ohio Dominican, graduating in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in sports management and a minor in coaching. On this episode Mike & Ethan discuss the rise of Denison's program from a 5-5 COVID season to an impressive 24 wins, culminating in a historic North Coast Athletic Conference title last season. Ethan hits on the importance of recruiting tenacious players who embody both skill and resilience, a strategy that has catalyzed Denison's success. The conversation also touches on the necessity of instilling a culture that emphasizes hard work and commitment, ensuring players understand the standard of excellence required to become a consistent winner. Furthermore, we explore the nuances of evaluating talent, distinguishing between potential recruits in both high school and AAU settings, while reinforcing the significance of academic criteria in shaping the roster. Ultimately, the episode serves as a testament to the belief that a dedicated coaching staff, complemented by outstanding recruits, lays the foundation for sustained success in collegiate basketball.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @hoopheadspod for the latest updates on episodes, guests, and events from the Hoop Heads Pod.Make sure you're subscribed to the Hoop Heads Pod on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts and while you're there please leave us a 5 star rating and review. Welcome back! We kick off Season 9 of the Glass and Out Podcast with episode 306, featuring Seattle Kraken Assistant Coach Jessica Campbell. Campbell is of course getting set for her second season behind an NHL bench, after having the distinction of being the first female to be hired as a full-time NHL coach. It was then that Dan Bylsma, then recently hired as the Head Coach of the Kraken's AHL affiliate in Coachella Valley, reached out to interview her for the opportunity to join his staff. Two seasons and consecutive trips to the Calder Cup finals later, Bylsma was hired as Seattle's Head Coach and Campbell got the call to join him. You can check out her IIHF Coaching Symposium presentation on Feeding the Attack by Breaking Down the PK now on The Coaches Site. Listen as she shares her keys to creating a cohesive power play, how to help players out of scoring slumps, and how breaking barriers has influenced her coaching philosophy.

Assistant Coach Marc Grenier returns to the Bench after a 9-month hiatus to team with Scott, competing against Markkus & Eric Ede. Luks hosts the game and witnesses Markkus throwing a tirade on question 1. It really doesn't take much. Both teams foreshadow an answer from the 4th quarter in early discussions. Important life questions are also pondered; for example, who has Ben Affleck not been dating? And did Steve McNair play for the A's? Ede also accuses Luks of taking artistic liberties in the pre- and post-game round - a charge which Luks vehemently denied. #adamdunn #hiatus #benaffleck #stevemcnair #athletics #artisticliberties https://dobosdelights.com/ Promo Code: CheckYourTaint https://www.patreon.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.facebook.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.twitter.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.instagram.com/benchwarmerstp/ https://www.teepublic.com/stores/benchwarmers-trivia-podcast
