After Linganore High football rolled to a 56-17 victory over Oakdale in the Class 3A championship game last Saturday in Annapolis to claim its seventh state championship, coach Rick Conner, senior running back Bradly Matthews and senior receiver/defensive back Chase Perry are this week's guests on The Final Score podcast. The guys chat with host Greg Swatek about the season, which will certainly be considered among the best in Frederick County history. The Lancers finished 13-0. They pulled out a close win at Mervo, the eventual 4A-3A state champion, in Week 1 and were hardly challenged the rest of the way. What made this team so special? How did it come together so well? And what is it's future after reaching the state mountaintop once again? Matthews, Frederick County's all-time touchdown leader (80), and Perry, the team's leading receiver, discuss what playing football at Linganore meant to them, as well as their futures. Matthews will play football next year at Georgetown University, while Perry will play baseball at the University of North Carolina-Asheville. Prior to this conversation, FNP sports reporter Alexander Dacy joins Greg to recap Linganore's big win over Oakdale in the second state football final between Frederick County teams and look ahead to the high school basketball season.

After ending a 32-year state championship drought for Frederick County field hockey teams, Linganore High School is featured on this week's Final Score podcast, as head coach McKenzie Ridgely, star goalie Allena Jaworski and junior midfielder Addison Ridgely join the program. The trio chats with host Greg Swatek about the Lancers' 4-3 victory over Westminster in double overtime back on Nov. 8 in the Class 3A championship game at Stevenson University in Owings Mills and the dramatic way it unfolded. Jaworkski recalls stopping a Westminster penalty stroke in the first quarter that flipped the momentum in her team's favor. Addison Ridgely describes how the game-winning sequence, involving an almost accidental goal from senior forward Jordan Zimmerman, evolved. And McKenzie Ridgely talks about the overall resilience of her team, after Westminster produced the tying goal with roughly 20 seconds to play in regulation, and why it was able to play its best when it mattered the most. The discussion also covers the very unusual way the Jaworski became a goalie, as well as her future in the sport and the future of the team. Prior to that conversation, FNP sports reporter Alexander Dacy joins Greg to discuss Linganore and Oakdale meeting in an All-Frederick County state football final for the second time in three years. Is this the Linganore team that finally breaks the recent string of losses in state football finals? And can Oakdale find a way to keep it competitive after being blown out by the Lancers during the regular season?

And Suarez talks about the future of the team and looks ahead to the indoor track and field season at Urbana. Prior to that conversation, FNP sports reporter Alexander Dacy joins Greg to recap the state quarterfinal in high school football and look ahead to Linganore and Oakdale playing in the Class 3A state semifinals this week.

What was the significance to them of being the first state champs in county history for girls flag football? Petrie and Roberts also talk about why they decided to play girls flag football, and Sweene explains why he decided to coach it. How far has the team and the sport come in the three years it has been played on the high-school level in Frederick County? What does the future look like for the team and the players? Prior to that conversation, FNP sports reporter Alexander Dacy joins Greg to discuss soccer state finals for the Brunswick boys and the Oakdale girls, a state volleyball final for Urbana and Middletown's shocking forfeit out of the high school football playoffs. They also look ahead to this week's state football quarterfinals for Linganore, Oakdale, Urbana and Walkersville.

This week Nick Averwater continues his conversation with Kim Webb, High School Band Director at Greene County Tech in Paragould, Arkansas. Paragould is a city of around 30,000 people located 65 miles northwest of Memphis. In 2024 The Greene County Tech marching band won the state championship in Class 5A. In the last episode, Kim told us about building and maintaining a culture of success in the band program. This time, we learn more about what it's like when the other high school in town, Paragould High School, also has a tradition of winning state marching band championships. Our conversation was recorded back in December 2024. We've broken it up into two episodes, and this is part two.
Today on the podcast is Asher Oates!Asher is the #1 returner from Tennessee, ranked 24th in the nation by Milesplit.Asher is a senior out of Independence High School in Tennessee. Just yesterday, he ran 14:44 for 5K XC, soloing a PR gun to tape in only his second meet of the season. He is the defending Tennessee state champion for cross-country in Division 1 Class AAA. He also got 20th at Footlocker Nationals in 2024. Even more exciting though, is that Asher is on the U20 U.S. Mountain/Trail Team, where he will represent the United States at the World Mountain & Trail Championships in Spain later this month. Such an amazing opportunity. We talk all about what that means for him. And, really, overall, my chat with Asher today was one of the deepest I have ever had on the show.We talk so many things, from what it means to have the opportunity in Spain, to going to altitude camp in Boulder for 6 weeks with Paul Stafford this past summer, where he got to meet some of the top pros and mental performance coaches in the running space. We also talk a little bit about the exit of Footlocker Nationals and the new era of high school national meets at Balboa Park. One key theme in our chat today was definitely the mental game. As you will pick up on in our conversation, there is a level of poise and confidence that Asher carries with himself. He is surgical in the way that he approaches the process of training, the process of racing. Today, we truly peel back the layers of how he has developed such a mindset over his career. And, get some pen and paper out because, man, there were so many good insights. The man is a philosopher, for real. Please consider leaving a follow and five-star review!Other than that, sit back, relax, and enjoy my conversation with Mr. Asher Oates.

https://teachhoops.com/ On the Championship-Defining Moment When asked if there was a single moment during the tournament run where he knew his team had what it took to win it all, Coach Ryan Bleiker points to a specific timeout late in the state championship game. "We were in a dogfight, and the other team had just hit a big three to cut our lead. The atmosphere in the Kohl Center was electric. I called a timeout, and as I walked over to the huddle, I was ready to deliver a fiery speech. But before I could say a word, I saw our senior point guard already talking to the other four guys, completely calm, telling them exactly what needed to be done on the next defensive possession. There was no panic, no fear—just pure focus and trust. In that instant, I knew. They didn't need me; they had each other. That's when you know your team is truly special."

https://teachhoops.com/ On the Secret to a Championship Season When asked what the single biggest factor was in his team's run to a state title, Coach Matthew Klein dismisses the idea of a secret formula. "Honestly, it came down to a concept we preached from day one: competitive trust. It's easy to trust each other when things are going well, but we built a culture where our players trusted each other most in the toughest moments. It meant our best shooter trusted the 10th man on the scout team to push him in practice every single day. It meant the point guard trusted that if he made the extra pass, his teammate would be ready to knock down the shot. We didn't win because we had the most raw talent; we won because we were the most connected team, and that trust was our armor during the tournament."

Send us a textWhat does it take to build a championship high school baseball program without flame-throwing pitchers or Division I talent? Wisconsin Hall of Fame coach Jeff Ryan pulls back the curtain on his old-school approach that's produced 438 wins and a state championship at small-school Prescott High.Ryan's journey from milking cows on a hobby farm to becoming one of Wisconsin's most respected baseball minds reveals how traditional values translate to modern success. "Consistency, fairness, discipline, and professionalism," he shares, form the bedrock of his coaching philosophy. His 2012 state championship team epitomized these principles, displaying what he calls "quiet intensity"—a focused, unflappable demeanor that carried them to a 26-2 record despite not having a single pitcher who threw harder than 78 mph. What truly sets Ryan's program apart is his meticulous attention to fundamentals. His teams spend 30 minutes every practice on scripted situations, mastering pickoff plays, controlling the running game, and executing defensive fundamentals that "steal outs" in crucial moments. Ryan's approach to middle infield defense—eschewing the common "alligator funnel" technique for a more precise method—exemplifies his willingness to embrace proven techniques over trendy methods.Perhaps most remarkable is Ryan's candor about coaching's challenges. He considers making out the lineup card his most difficult task, understanding that his decisions affect not just players but entire families. His solution for surviving 27 years as a head coach? Setting clear boundaries with parents while maintaining unwavering consistency in how he treats every player, from stars to bench players.Ready to transform your coaching approach? Discover why Jeff Ryan believes "baseball doesn't teach us how to win; it teaches us how to lose," and how this philosophy creates not just better players, but better people. Now that is the most important thing that you can say to a child." - Kobe Bryant's dadPicture an 11-year-old Kobe Bryant, all knees and elbows with oversized knee pads, playing in Philadelphia's legendary Sonny Hill League where Wilt Chamberlain once dominated. For an entire summer, he didn't score a single point. Not a free throw, not a lucky shot, not even a breakaway layup. Zero. While other kids relied on natural athleticism, Kobe was crying after games, devastated by his failure. But his father's response in that moment of crushing defeat planted the seed for everything that followed - unconditional love that gave him the security to fail and the fire to prove himself anyway. What happened next reveals the mathematics of greatness that most people never calculate. While other kids practiced maybe two hours twice a week, Kobe obsessively trained two to three hours every single day, methodically building a menu of skills - first shooting, then creating shots, then speed. He focused on fundamentals while others coasted on talent. The transformation was staggering: by age 14, just two years later, he wasn't just good - he was the best player in the entire state of Pennsylvania. Kobe breaks down exactly how he engineered this quantum leap and why the simple math of daily obsession beats sporadic talent every time.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter

Today on the show is the 18-time individual state champ from Louisiana, Aiden Monistere. Yes, you heard that right, this man is an 18-time state champion in the state of Louisana, one of if not the most dominant distance runners in the history of the state. He is a 4:06 guy for mile, 8:46 for 2 mile, and the reason I had him on the show today was that he just won 4 state titles in 4 hours in his classification, winning the 4x800m, 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. This dude is crazy, so many amazing insights from Aiden today. We talk all about his historic day at the state meet, his legacy, as well as his thoughts on going to Iowa State next year, and how being a middle school triathlete has formed him into the runner he is today. Please, before we get into this episode, if you haven't already, then please, wherever you are, in your car, at work, on a run, give this podcast a follow and a five-star review on whatever platform you are listening on. That goes a long way in supporting the growth of The Sunday Shakeout so that I can keeping bringing to you some of the greatest stories in the sport of running and in that process, share love and passion for track and field and distance running.I hope you enjoy this episode of The Sunday Shakeout!
In this short segment of the Revenue Builders Podcast, we revisit the discussion with Marcello Gallo, CRO at Sigma Computing, tackling one of the most critical and misunderstood phases of complex enterprise sales: procurement. They dissect the challenges of "separation of church and state," the pitfalls of weak champions, and the importance of owning the final stretch of the sales cycle with confidence, conviction, and clarity of value.KEY TAKEAWAYS[00:00:25] Understand “Separation of Church and State”: Champions often step back during procurement. Plan for it, but don't surrender the deal.[00:01:33] “Participate in Your Own Rescue”: Teach champions to fight for the value they believe in—even through procurement.[00:03:15] Extreme Ownership is Non-Negotiable: Blaming procurement delays is a weak excuse. Elite sellers own the entire process.[00:04:00] Know the Negative Consequences: It's not just about the pain — it's about what happens if the problem doesn't get solved now.[00:05:54] True Champions Have Power and Influence: They actively sell on your behalf and are invested in your success. Anything less is not a real champion[00:06:38] Elite Sellers Multiply Champion Power: The best reps elevate their champions inside the account. It's not seller vs. buyer—it's a partnership.QUOTES[00:01:54] “You can't get alligator arms during procurement. If this is what you want delivered, you have to participate in your own rescue.”[00:03:35] “Extreme ownership means the deal is yours. No excuses. If procurement's dragging, you didn't plan it right.”[00:04:59] “Without understanding the negative consequences, you can't drive urgency — and urgency drives deals.”[00:05:54] “A true champion has power and influence, is actively selling on your behalf, and has a vested interest in your success.[00:07:02] “If a rep's saying, ‘It's us versus them,' you're in trouble. It means you never had a real champion to begin with.”Listen to the full conversation through the link below.https://revenue-builders.simplecast.com/episodes/scaling-high-growth-companies-with-marcello-galloEnjoying the podcast? Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. It's rivalry weekend in MLS, and it's kind of fitting that Atlanta hosts Philadelphia on Saturday night. Not sure if the league truly sees it as a rivalry, but it's felt that way on the field over the past few years. Philly won 3-0 earlier this season and Atlanta will be trying to build on their draw in Austin from Wednesday night. Philly came back to win 3-2 on a late goal from Tai Baribo against the LA Galaxy on Wednesday. Georgia HS state champions have been crowned the and the season will come to a close tonight in Duluth and in Macon. It's the 2A state championships in Macon, our friend Matteen Rad will be on the call for the NFHS Network there as Drew Charter's boys face Shaw while Pike County's girls play Savannah Arts. Madison Crews and I will be in Duluth for 5A as Roswell's girls try to finish the season unbeaten as they play Northgate while Sprayberry's boys try to knock off top ranked River Ridge. Join us on the NFHS Network starting at 5pm.Barcelona won their 28th La Liga title against their rivals Espanyol as Lamine Yamal scored another brilliant goal. It's a treble year for the Blaugrana as they added to their previously won SuperCopa and Copa del Rey. However, it wouldn't be Barcelona if there were stories about financial silliness. They're trying to get the VIP ticket sale completed that somehow allowed them to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor done in order to help their accounts and salary limit for next season. Watch the video as I try to make sense of it all (probably failing to do so). Be on the lookout on our social media accounts (@SoccerDownHere) for clips from Jude Bellingham today as he spoke to FIFA this week about Real Madrid's ambitions for the upcoming Club World Cup. It's a big opportunity for them to start the Xabi Alonso era off right. They're also trying to add CB Dean Huijsen and LB Alvaro Fernandez ahead of the tournament. Inter is trying to add Marseille winger Luis Henrique as well as 3-4 other players for the tournament. They're also trying to win Serie A and the Champions League before that. They host 5th place Lazio this weekend while league leaders Napoli travel to relegation threatened Parma. A win for Napoli combined with a loss for Inter would send the trophy south to Naples. Anything else sees it come down to the final weekend. More in the video and podcast, Morning Espresso will be back on Monday morning to recap the weekend.Have a great weekend y'all!
Send us a textWhat does it take to build a high school baseball powerhouse ranked #1 in Arkansas and among the top 25 programs nationally? Coach Leighton Hardin of Conway High School pulls back the curtain on his championship formula. The secret to Conway's "Wampus Cats" success starts with three non-negotiable values: team, toughness, and competitiveness. Coach Hardin demonstrates how following legendary coaches throughout his career prepared him to establish his own winning culture while respecting program traditions. You'll discover Conway's innovative practice approach, including their game-changing pregame throwing routine that ensures players are mentally and physically ready from the first pitch. Hardin explains why practicing above game speed prepares his team for any situation they'll face in competition.Perhaps most fascinating is how Conway adapted when faced with physical limitations. Without power hitters throughout the lineup, Harden implemented a specialized pitching strategy and small-ball approach that led to a state championship with an undersized team. His emphasis on two-strike hitting and situational baseball provides a masterclass in maximizing team strengths. The mental side of baseball receives special attention as Coach Hardin shares his refreshing perspective on failure: "There was one perfect human that lived. It was about 2,000 years ago and that's none of us." This honest approach creates an environment where players develop resilience rather than fear of mistakes.Beyond the diamond, Harden reveals his ultimate goal of developing "productive members of society, great husbands, great fathers" – demonstrating why Conway's success transcends wins and losses. Whether you coach baseball or simply appreciate leadership excellence, this conversation delivers practical wisdom you can apply immediately.Ready to transform your coaching approach?
