What happens when a lifelong actor ends up behind a bar — and realizes the two aren't all that different? That's the story of Matthew "Matty" Rangel, a born-and-raised Wisconsin bartender who stumbled into social media content creation at 5:00 AM in a pub basement, and now has nearly half a million followers across platforms. In this episode, we sit down with Matty for a candid conversation about his dual life as a bartender and actor, the raw and real content that built his audience, and why talking about mental health in the hospitality industry isn't optional — it's essential. What We Cover From the stage to the bar — and back again Matty's love of acting started at age seven, watching his dad perform. When the pandemic killed a signed contract to join a New York theater company, bartending kept the bills paid. Then some drunk friends in a bar basement told him to just start making videos — and everything changed. Nearly half a million followers, no flair required Matty's content is unapologetically dive bar. No bottle flipping, no craft cocktail tutorials — just the real, raw day-to-day life of a neighborhood bartender. His 70-page notes document of stories and observations has become the foundation of a highly relatable and growing following. Bartending as performance Matty draws direct parallels between acting and working behind the bar — putting on a face when your grandparents are in the hospital, talking a stranger through the death of their son, then driving home and sitting in your driveway in silence for 20 minutes. It's a performance job, but the emotional weight is very real. Mental Health Mondays Matty runs a recurring content series dedicated to mental health in the industry. He talks about why bartenders need to let it out — and why the emotional labor of the job deserves to be taken seriously, regardless of how it compares to other professions. Auditions, COVID, and the silver lining Pre-pandemic, pursuing acting from Wisconsin meant moving to Chicago or New York. Now, virtual auditions mean Matty can stay rooted in Racine while still working with his Chicago-based agent. An unexpected upside of a difficult era. Just start Whether it's content creation or anything else — Matty's biggest piece of advice is to stop waiting for perfect and just go. He stumbled and bumbled his way to half a million followers. The only way to learn is to do. Connect with Matty Rangel LinkTree - Matty Rangel Instagram / TikTok / Facebook / YouTube: @TheRealMattyRangel A big thank you to Jean-Marc Dykes of Imbiblia. Gabriela Rangel, director of Tucson's Museum of Contemporary Art, was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. As a curator focusing on Latin American art, she's worked at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Americas Society in New York City, and the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires. In the fall of 2025 she became the director of Tucson's Museum of Contemporary Art. In this podcast with Caroline Tracey, The Border Chronicle's arts & culture editor, Rangel discusses how the concept of Latin American art" didn't come from Latin America, the necessity for politics in art, and what it's like living and working in the Sonoran Desert “This is a borderland city,” she says of Tucson. Of how the border figures into contemporary art, she adds: “Urgent matters in the repertoire of contemporary art are also crucial for the borderlands: water, ecosystems and immigration—these are issues that contemporary art has adopted in their concerns....Contemporary art is about what's happening in the present.”

Throughout this breakout, we'll focus on creating a teaching team of young adults to serve alongside you in developing teaching content for your ministry. The session will assist in identifying, training, and platforming key leaders in crafting and delivering sermons for your young adults. This session was recorded live at Roundup 2026, a gathering of college ministry leaders hosted by the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention.Danny was invited to church by a friend during his Junior year of high school. It was then that he heard the Gospel, and his life forever changed because of Jesus. He felt called to ministry at 18 and has been practicing ministry full-time since 2011. God has allowed Danny to be involved in student ministry for 7 years, to plant churches in New York City for 2 years, and to now serve full-time at a local church in South Texas as the Young Adults Pastor. Danny loves spending time with his wife, Summer, and his son, Jayden. Like every great Christian, he loves coffee! Because he came to know Jesus in high school, he is passionate about preaching the Gospel to the next generation.

In this continuation of the Queen Series, Jeff Ott and Becky Masterman welcome Dr. Juliana Rangel of Texas A&M University for an in-depth discussion on honey bee queen biology, mating behavior, and the often-overlooked role of drones in colony success. Juliana shares her journey into honey bee research, beginning with stingless bees in Brazil and leading to her current work on queen reproductive biology. The conversation explores the complexity of queen mating, from orientation flights to drone congregation areas, and the many variables that influence successful mating—especially weather, timing, and environmental conditions. A key takeaway is how much remains unknown. Despite decades of research, fundamental questions—such as where queens consistently mate and how mating locations are determined—are still being revisited with new technologies like RFID tracking. The discussion highlights the importance of drone quality and diversity, emphasizing that drones contribute half the genetics of a colony. Poor drone health or limited mating opportunities can directly impact queen longevity and colony productivity. Juliana also explains how pesticide exposure and contaminated wax can disrupt normal mating patterns, sometimes leading to excessive mating or reduced sperm viability. Queen development is another critical factor. Queens raised from older larvae may appear functional but result in significantly reduced colony performance. Proper grafting practices remain essential, especially for small-scale queen producers. The episode closes with practical advice for beekeepers: observe queen retinue behavior, maintain good records, and reconsider the value of drones within colonies. Juliana also shares updates on her current research in Colombia and a new international project investigating queen mating dynamics and environmental stressors. This conversation reinforces a central theme: queen quality is multifactorial, and improving it requires attention to genetics, nutrition, environment, and management practices.
