The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful[a] one see decay. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. "Christians Never Say Goodbye" written by The Nelons "Jerusalem City of God" written by The Hoppers John Ray Roskam was born on March 13, 1939 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Albert and Olive (Schneidermann) Roskam. At the age of 14, he trusted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior. After graduating from Cedar Falls High School in 1957, he “pestered” the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until they hired him. Starting as a lineman, he would work his way up to supervisor and later course developer over 29 years, moving to Waterloo, Bettendorf, Iowa City, and finally Des Moines. He joined the US Navy, serving in the Reserves from 1961-1967, with two of those years in active duty. In 1962 John joined a group from his church in attending a winter retreat in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. It was on a toboggan there that he met the love of his life, Ruth Faulkner. Although he had brought several girls in his car, he offered to drive Ruth home to Chicago, saying it was “only 200 miles out of his way”. After a long-distance courtship, they were married on November 27th, 1965. God blessed their marriage with four children: Roger (Lori), Jennifer (Vaughn Thomas), Ryan (Susie) and Jay; grandchildren, Jacob and Devon Roskam; Silas, Tori (Sam) Thoman, Arianna, and Simeon Thomas; and Curtis Guyer. On December 24, 2023 Carolina Thoman was welcomed as their first great-grandchild. In 1987, John took early retirement but was never idle. He started driving a school bus for Johnston, hired on as a salesman at the new Best Buy, videotaped many events and weddings, gave tractor rides at the Machine Shed Restaurant, and he never stopped collecting and working on telephones. Later, John and Ruth enjoyed traveling and escaping the Iowa winters by heading south. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Huebert of New Mexico, brother-in-law Dick (Arlene) Faulkner of Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews. He went to be with the Lord on the morning of July 14, 2024 after living with Parkinson's for several years. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024 at Creekside Church, 2743 82nd Place, in Urbandale. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the church. A private interment will occur at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Parkinson's Foundation in loving memory of John. Online condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com

In this episode, Dr. Mally emphasizes the importance of looking at the whole body rather than just the symptomatic area. He addresses common conditions like plantar fasciitis and carpal tunnel syndrome with a unique perspective, pointing out typical misdiagnoses and treatments. Moreover, he also stresses the significance of extremity health, particularly the impact of lower limb misalignments on spinal issues, highlighting his revolutionary methods for assessment and treatment that could potentially transform patient care. Key Takeaways: Whole-Body Approach: Chiropractors must assess the entire body, especially since half of the bones are in the hands and feet, which are often neglected. Plantar Fasciitis Insights: Dr. Mally describes the common misconceptions surrounding plantar fasciitis and shares his non-invasive met Leg Length Inequality: A significant contributor to low back pain and other dysfunctions throughout the body could be the disparity in leg lengths. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Myths: Many wrist pain issues are misdiagnosed as carpal tunnel syndrome, which often can be resolved through specific chiropractic adjustments rather than surgery. Scapular Dyskinesis: Shoulder problems are frequently connected to issues with the scapula, not necessarily the shoulder itself, revealing the relevance of scapular alignment. More of Dr. Mitch Mally Dr Mitch Mally is a Detroit, Michigan native. He attended his pre-medical training at Wayne State University 1974-1978 and graduated Palmer College in Davenport, IA in October 1981. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette Digital News Desk, and I'm here with your update for December 20, 2023.According to the National Weather Service it will be a pleasant, sunny day in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, with a high of 46 degrees. Koch Industries will pay $3.6 billion to buy the Iowa Fertilizer Co., one of the world's largest modern fertilizer companies, amid surging profits for the industry.OCI Global, the parent company for the plant located in Wever in southeast Iowa, announced the sale Monday to Koch Ag & Energy Solutions, saying the transaction will reduce debt for OCI, make money for shareholders, and allow future investment for the multinational firm. The sale is pending U.S. antitrust approval. The Iowa Fertilizer Co. combines nitrogen from the air with hydrogen from natural gas at high pressure and temperature to produce ammonia, which binds the nitrogen to make fertilizer. When the plant opened, owners said they planned to produce up to 2 million metric tons of fertilizer a year.Koch Industries, based in Wichita, Kan., is one of the largest privately-owned companies in the world. It was founded by Fred Koch, father of brothers Charles and David Koch. The Koch brothers are also very active in political circles, funding many conservative candidates and organizations, including the Americans for Prosperity– a super PAC that has an influential presence in Iowa.Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds told a Bettendorf audience this week that former President Donald Trump is "misleading Iowans" with his campaign's recent ads highlighting her past praise.Reynolds this fall endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for the GOP presidential nomination — and has faced Trump's ire for it.Earlier this month, Trump's campaign launched a six-figure ad buy in Iowa that touts Reynolds' past support for Trump. The TV spot features a montage of Reynolds applauding Trump and his administration's policies at previous rallies. In a Monday campaign event for DeSantis, Reynolds said Trump was "misleading Iowans" and that she has "absolutely endorsed Ron" and is proud of her endorsement."He thought he was entitled to my endorsement and nobody is entitled to anything," Reynolds said. "You have to step up. You have to earn it, you have to make your case."According to reporting from the Associated Press, the Colorado Supreme Court on Tuesday declared former President Donald Trump ineligible for the White House under the U.S. Constitution's insurrection clause and removed him from the state's presidential primary ballot.Colorado's highest court overturned a ruling from a district court judge. That judge's ruling stated that Trump was part of inciting an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, but it was unclear if the insurrection clause applies to the presidency.Trump's legal team has already said they will appeal the ruling to the United States Supreme Court in hopes he can be reinstated on the ballot. If Trump is the Republican nominee, he would likely have an uphill battle winning in Colorado anyway. The main danger for his campaign would be if other states used Colorado's decision as precedent to remove him from ballots in their states.

This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette Digital News Desk, and I'm here with your update for December 19, 2023.According to the National Weather Service the sunny sky will have to contend with increasing cloudiness during the day on Tuesday. The high temperature in the Cedar Rapids area is predicted to be 38 degrees. It should be less windy than Monday, however, with gusts only reaching up to 25 mph.Seventeen days after a crash killed four people -- two teens and a mother and son -- police announced Monday who was driving each of the two vehicles that collided, but said the cause of the crash is yet undetermined. In an earlier interview, Cedar Rapids public safety spokesperson Mike Battien said speed was believed to be a factor in the crash. The fatal crash happened about 10 p.m. Dec. 1 on C Street SW between Thomas Edison Boulevard and Beth Page Drive. Police later released the names of the people who died: Casey Krager, 18, of Davenport, Carter Cooper, 18, of Bettendorf, Ruta Tekeste, 52, of Cedar Rapids and a 13-year-old who was not identified. The teen was identified on an online fundraising page as Tekeste's son, Bruk Mehari.Monday, police revealed the crash involved a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Cooper and a 2010 Honda Pilot driven by Tekeste.A GoFundMe page started on behalf of Tekeste and Mehari's family has been closed after raising almost $60,000.Christmas light displays in downtown Cedar Rapids, darkened when their power cords were stolen, will be turned back on now that an arrest has been made in the thefts, according to Nikki Wilcox, director of strategic development for the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance.Several power cords connected to holiday lights in Greene Square, in a MedQuarter pocket park along First Street SE and outside NewBo City Market were stolen during the first couple weeks of December. The cords in Greene Square and the MedQuarter were replaced once, but were stolen again.Last Wednesday, Cedar Rapids police arrested Scott Alan Clark, 48, of Cedar Rapids in relation to the thefts. City officials had been waiting for an arrest before paying to replace the cords for the downtown and MedQuarter displays in hopes they wouldn't be stolen a third time. Now that the arrest has been made, the lights will be turned back on.A contractor was working Monday to replace the cords, with the plan to turn the lights back on again starting Monday night, according to Wilcox.Michaels, the North American arts and crafts chain, will soon open a location at the Westdale Town Centre as redevelopment of a former southwest Cedar Rapids mall property nears its culmination.Frew Development Group — which is undertaking the $90 million redevelopment of Westdale Mall into an open-air, mixed-use development with housing, retail, hotels and other uses — announced Monday that Michaels has signed a long-term lease for 16,000 square feet of space. Opening is targeted for mid-2024.Michaels — North America's largest provider of arts, crafts, framing, floral and wall décor based in Irving, Texas — has another location in the Cedar Rapids metro in Collins Road Square in Marion. Christopher Patrick of Salem, MA emailed a couple photos: "Hello Mark! I can't tell you how happy I am to have discovered the ‘Irish & Celtic Music Podcast!' But I'm gonna try, all the same! You see, in my childhood, my 5 siblings and I would get loaded up into our family station wagon every Saturday morning by our mother. She would then proceed to drive us all into Boston for our weekly Irish Step Dancing lessons. Our rides both in and back were spent listening to Boston's AM's radio show, ‘The Irish Hour,' and later, ‘The Irish Hit Parade,' (still on the air to this day!) So, those jigs and reels were ingrained in us in our step dancing, and the other traditional music was from our rides there and home. My mother soon landed us an agent, and we, the six kids, danced all around the Greater Boston area. So, it is no real big surprise that these days, I play in an Irish Music Band with my family. Comprised of myself, my brother, two sisters, and brother - in - law, we perform under the name of ‘FitzBlarney,' based in Salem, Massachusetts. I've attached a coupla' photos for you, too  -  one of the six of us in our 1970s step - dancing attire, and one from this past St. Patrick's Day, where FitzBlarney played out at The Witches Brew pub in Salem. The music you play means a lot to me, so, I recently became a patron. Just out of appreciation! Thanks again, and ‘Sláinte!' P.S. I would love to one day get on your podcast! That'd be so cool!"

For the past couple years at the annual Ball Customer Day event in West Chicago, panels have been assembled to share thoughts on a topic during lunch in the big tent. This year, the topic was how to plan for 2024—a big question and one that has everyone in the industry talking. Following three unique seasons, it can be challenging (if not impossible) for you and your team to set sights on a plan for your operation next year.   Because Ball Customer Day is now actually two days, the final Thursday and Friday in July, this episode only covers one panel. Be sure to check out the other panel discussion (also posted as a podcast) because the participants are different, and the ideas are unique.   On Friday, moderator Bill Calkins spoke to Kate Terrell, second generation owner of Wallace's Garden Center, a grower-retailer located in Bettendorf, Iowa. Also on the panel was Tom Seery, also second generation as a Ball Seed sales rep and Midwest Regional Manager. The third panelist was Jim Kennedy, national sales manager at Ball, who shared how Ball Seed is planning as a supplier and ways Ball Seed can assist your team when strategizing for upcoming years.   Panelists shared thoughts on these questions:   How did your team create a plan for 2023? What went into this planning and how did the season go? The big question heard around the industry is, “How do I plan for 2024?” How is your business thinking about your 2024 plan at the moment? With change and turnover constant in any organization, developing teams and team members is more critical than ever. Please share how your company goes about training and education of staff members. Why invest in this? Does it pay off? Because Customer Day is focused on innovative new plants, as well as tried and true varieties, please share some of the plants and concepts you feel will make an impact in 2024. Finally, please offer one key to success for 2024.
