Once a lively gathering spot filled with music, laughter, and late-night crowds, the roadhouse has become just as well-known for the spirits that never seemed to leave as it is for its long and colorful past. In this week's episode of the *222 Paranormal Podcast*, we dive headfirst into the chilling lore, eerie encounters, and paranormal investigations that surround this mysterious landmark. What makes the Rock Island Roadhouse stand out isn't just its vintage character or storied history—it's the countless reports of unexplained activity that continue to this day. For decades, patrons and staff alike have shared unsettling tales: phantom footsteps echoing across empty rooms, strange cold drafts sweeping through hallways, doors slamming shut on their own, and even full-bodied apparitions appearing in the shadows. Some guests report hearing disembodied voices whispering their names, while others claim to have felt unseen hands brush against their arms. Many investigators have walked into the building expecting just another ghost hunt, only to leave with bone-chilling stories of their own. But what is it about this location that stirs up so much spiritual energy? Some believe it is tied to the building's long history of music, bar fights, and tragedy—emotions forever imprinted on the walls. Others think the land itself carries an energy that amplifies paranormal activity. The Roadhouse has stood through the passage of time, hosting generations of locals, travelers, and performers, each leaving behind a piece of themselves. Perhaps some of those pieces never fully departed. During our conversation, we share firsthand accounts of investigations inside the Roadhouse, including startling EVP recordings, strange temperature drops, and unexplained flashes of light caught on camera. We also explore the stories of those who claim to have had life-changing encounters while visiting. Did they meet the spirit of a former bartender? A lost patron who never found their way home? Or perhaps something older, something darker, that predates the roadhouse altogether? As always, we look at the balance between folklore and fact. Every haunted building carries its legends, but when the same stories are repeated time and time again by unrelated witnesses, we have to wonder—could this be proof that the Rock Island Roadhouse truly is a hotspot for supernatural activity? Whether you're a seasoned investigator, a curious listener, or someone who just loves a good ghost story, this episode is packed with chilling details and thought-provoking questions. So pour yourself a drink, dim the lights, and join us as we unlock the mysteries of the **Rock Island Roadhouse**, one of the Midwest's most haunted establishments. Ben and Dr D have so much to discuss and so little time in which to discuss it. Starting with Brendan Reilly going a little MAGA to try to beat Toni Preckwinkle. Is a little MAGA like a little pregnant? And Chicago is going to the dogs—if Lincoln Park gets its way. And Raja wins big in Rock Island. And Juliana says she doesn't need corporate pac money cause she has JB's money. Well, she didn't say the last part. And Robin talks gun control. And DB makes it official. He's running for governor again and this time he promises to be nice to Chicago. We shall see. Anything else? Oh, yes—Ben buys a chocolate-colored tux! RaeAnn Tucker joined Seth Parlier on Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about what's happening with the Henry and Stark County Health Departments. January is National Birth Defects Month, and the 2025 theme is "Every Journey Matters." This nationwide initiative emphasizes making healthy choices to reduce the risks of birth defects. Pregnant women and those planning pregnancy are advised to take proactive steps such as consuming 400 micrograms of folic acid daily, managing pre-pregnancy weight, and updating vaccinations to promote the birth of healthy babies. Every 4 ½ minutes, a birth defect occurs in the U.S., prompting local health officials to advocate for awareness and preventive practices. First Choice Healthcare Clinics across Kewanee, Colona, Toulon, and Rock Island are making strides in community health through their comprehensive family planning services. These clinics provide crucial support, including annual physical exams featuring breast exams and pap smears, alongside contraceptive services and pregnancy testing. Designed to empower individuals to make informed health decisions, the clinics also assist in the early detection of other health issues, facilitating timely referrals to specialized care. Services are financially accessible, with a sliding fee scale for low-income families and available grant funds for eligible clients. To learn more or book an appointment, visit henrystarkhealth.com. The Henry & Stark County Health Departments, together with First Choice Healthcare, are urging residents to stay proactive about their health as the infectious season may continue until May. They are offering Pfizer's updated Covid-19 vaccines and seasonal flu shots for both adults and children over 6 months old at their clinics in Kewanee, Colona, and Toulon. For COVID-19 vaccinations, appointments are necessary and can be made by contacting the nearest First Choice Healthcare clinic. In this episode, Brian interviews Alex Sons, one of the leaders of the Rock Island Hub. We've done a lot of work around telling individual stories, but we want to include some more storytelling around the equipping teams that support every day disciple-makers in Kansas City. You'll hear a bit of Alex's personal journey in ministry, but you'll also hear the unique mission of the Rock Island Hub as he shares stories of transformation within the community, the importance of family and entrepreneurship, and some of the rhythms and structure of their weekly gatherings, a unique component for this team. Alex gets to share a bit of the highlights he's experienced as he's found a family that understands the unique call God has on his life.
What's up, dudes? I've got Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas and Scott Leopold from Holly Jolly X'masu here to talk the folksy prog rock band Jethro Tull. We break down two of the Christmas songs by Jethro Tull: “Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow” and “Another Christmas Song.” The British rock band formed in Blackpool, Lancashire in 1967. Their music is marked by the initially soulful and bluesy, and later expressively idiosyncratic, vocal style and unique lead flute work of frontman Ian Anderson, and their notable guitarist Martin Barre. Of course, their songs feature unusual and often complex construction, incorporating elements of classical and celtic folk music, as well as art rock and alternative rock. They subsequently beat Metallica in the ‘89 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental in what was widely viewed as an upset over the favorite, Metallica's ...And Justice for All. Ian Anderson composed “Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow,” and the band originally recorded it in ‘81 for the Broadsword and the Beast album (although it was left off). The 5/4 metered song is more folk rock-inspired with synthesizers. “Another Christmas Song” was also written by Ian Anderson. The band Included the song on the Rock Island album on side B, and eventually released it as a single on December 4, 1989. Flute? Yep. Folk and fantasy themes? Uh huh. Heavy metal and hard rock? Nope. Not at all. Sorry. So grab your flute, strike a flamingo pose, and listen to this episode on Jethro Tull “Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow!”Sounds of ChristmasFB: @SOCMusicTwitter: @SOCMusicIG: @socmusicHolly Jolly X'masuFB: @HollyJollyXmasuTwitter: @HollyJollyXmasuIG: @hollyjollyxmasuGive us a buzz!
