A beer league hockey podcast. Follow along as we talk about the basics of learning to play, gear, chirps, and the fantastic stories told in the parking lot.
The Parking Lot - A Beer League Hockey Podcast is a must-listen for anyone who loves the game of hockey and has an appreciation for the camaraderie and stories that come along with playing in beer league hockey. Hosted by Thom McLean and Jeremy Puckett, this podcast provides authentic interviews with individuals who have lived and experienced the life in beer league hockey.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the format. The show begins with an introduction segment where the hosts catch up on their own beer league games and engage in topical discussions. This personal touch allows listeners to feel like they are part of the conversation. The long format interview that follows provides deep insight into the experiences, journeys, and friendships that have been formed through beer league hockey. From legendary trips to real locker room stories, each episode offers a unique perspective on this brotherhood.
Another great aspect of this podcast is its ability to connect with listeners from all over. While based in Florida, The Parking Lot does a fantastic job of interviewing individuals from various locations across the United States and Canada. It features interviews from Florida to Boston, California to Toronto, and even New Hampshire. By talking to people from different backgrounds and age groups (most interviewees are 40+ years old), this podcast appeals to a wide range of beer league hockey enthusiasts.
However, there are a few aspects that could be improved upon. One noticeable area is sound mixing. At times, guests calling in via phone can be quieter than the hosts, making it difficult to hear them in noisy environments. Adjusting the sound levels would greatly enhance the listening experience.
In addition, while most interviews feature seasoned players with several years of experience, it would be interesting to hear from individuals who have recently started playing hockey as well. Their perspectives and expectations could provide valuable insights for newer players or those looking to join a beer league team.
Overall, The Parking Lot - A Beer League Hockey Podcast is a fantastic listen for anyone who enjoys the game of hockey and wants to hear real stories from those who live and breathe beer league hockey. The hosts, Thom McLean and Jeremy Puckett, bring a rough around the edges charm to the show, making it relatable and entertaining. So grab a cold one, sit back, and immerse yourself in the world of beer league hockey with this podcast. You won't be disappointed.

This Episode 131 is dedicated to the loving memory of Robert Lee Rutherford, 5-6-1939 to 5-22-2024. We affectionately knew him as Papaw. I got to meet Papaw in around 1997-1998 and he was still working at the Lee County Mosquito Control. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam war and served 20 years in the USAF. He did me the most glorious favor of all by telling me "yes" to my very important question of "may I marry your daughter". It has been a fantastic ride since. He was just such a nice man, a real Good Guy. Loving father of three and fantastic grandfather to my two boys. I got to spend the last 17 months with Papaw and over this increasingly sad time I got to witness actual True Love in the loving, thoughtful, all encompassing care of his now widow, Pong Sun (Mamaw). I thought I had a clue what true love meant. I did not. Now I do. We will miss Robert, Bob, Papaw dearly and we wish him everlasting peace until we meet him again.Â
