The NHL is celebrating the best of the first 25 years of the 2000s with an all-encompassing Quarter-Century Team project. Quarter-Century First and Second Teams are selected for all 32 franchises, with team selection having been compiled from broadcasters and writers in each market. Alexis Downie was joined by First Team selections and Stanley Cup winners, Forward Ryan Getzlaf, Defenseman Scott Niedermayer and Goaltender Jean-Sébastien Giguère. The trio discussed the honor of being named to the Quarter-Century team, reminiscing their days shared together in the Ducks locker room, hoisting the Stanley Cup together in 2007 and more on the latest edition of From Mighty 'Til Now.
Frank is back from the GM Meetings and has some notes on what was discussed as some of the most influential minds in hockey got together. The league and the players association are getting close to having to negotiate a new CBA and that means each side is starting to have internal discussions about what they could want. That's where the guys started today on the podcast and it led to some interesting debates about whether or not they could change the term limits for player contracts, how LTIR could change, and other things that could be changed in the next CBA.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys who their quarter way Jack Adams winner would be and how many career points Connor McDavid will finish with when all is said and done. After that, they talked a little bit more about McDavid's upcoming milestone as he closes in on 1000 career points. Frank talked about a few players in the 1000 point club who were maybe a little under appreciated. They wrapped up the show by talking about the next Hockey Hall of Fame class and who are the locks to get in. They debated Carey Price, Joe Thornton, Duncan Keith, Ryan Getzlaf, and Duncan Keith and their chances of getting in.2:20 - Term limits17:44 - How could LTIR change?32:40 - Fill in the Blank46:00 - Under Appreciated players in the 1k club52:00 - Next HHOF Class$250 Fanatics Gift Card Giveaway: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/contests/speak-up-and-scoreWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ryan Getzlaf had chuckle at Ray's (literal) expense as Mr. Ferraro was late to the interview thanks to a traffic ticket. Getzlaf recounted his recent experience being pulled over, in a great conversation with the guys. He spoke on enjoying retired life, and being a stay-at-home dad. But, he discussed missing the game, and future plans for a role in management, coaching, or even joining Ray & Dregs in media! The former Anaheim Ducks superstar spent his entire career with the Ducks, but he filled us in on a trade that ALMOST sent him down the road to play for a contender. He applauded former teammate Corey Perry for still being as ‘agitating' as ever, and credited Teemu Selanne for a passion for cars that the two Ducks legends share. Headlines covers the CHL's Top Prospects game and the chance for the game's next crop to showcase their talent for NHL scouts. Trade winds are picking up with the All-Star break around the corner; the guys discuss Jakob Chychrun to LA rumours, the Kings goaltending issues, and Joonas Korpisalo as a possible solution. Plus, Mitch Marner's Bell Let's Talk message, and the importance of prioritizing mental health. Kris Abbott raises the stakes with picks for both the NFC and AFC Championship games this weekend. Kris likes KC's odds and tells us why they might finally have the answer to Burrow and the Bengals. Meanwhile, Ray's hoping more teasers will keep him in 1st place in the pod's NFL picks competition. Ray's trading out the rain boots for a pair of shades as he'll be heading south for a golf trip! Brooke Henderson's appearance on Overdrive, and the golf-game of TSN buddies are broken down in the final segment. To wrap, Jeff and Elliotte congratulate Randy Hahn on calling 2,000 games for the San Jose Sharks, as well as a conversation about Alex Ovechkin reaching the 800-goal plateau and the questions that go along with it (20:00). Between Corey Perry, Ray Ferraro… and Darren Dreger, over 800 NHL goals are featured on the pod! 'Scorey' Perry had some fun with tying our very own Ray Ferraro on the all-time goal list. Perry talked his son's good luck phone call for teammate Steven Stamkos, and the celebration for Stamkos reaching 1000 points. He reflected on his time in Anaheim, close relationship with Ryan Getzlaf, and the 'blessing in disguise' of being bought out by the Ducks. Plus, his fierce competitiveness, and the desire to play into his forties. In Headlines the guys discuss Ottawa Senators RFA Alex Formenton's ineligible status, the ramifications of Formenton rejecting his qualifying offer, and the fallout of the ongoing investigation into Hockey Canada's 2018 World Junior team. Steven Stamkos crushes a well-deserved beer during his 1000th NHL point celebration, his ‘second-act' and remarkable career are celebrated. Continued hot-streaks from Jason Robertson and Mitch Marner are the talk of the league as two of the games young superstars continue to shred scoresheets. The Seattle Kraken extended their winning streak to 7-games, Ray credits GM Ron Francis for building the defence first. Jacob Markstrom's “I suck at hockey” comments are discussed as the Calgary Flames hope an awful November won't tank their season. Kris Abbott joins the show and tries to put a rough stretch in the rearview as he trails the NFL picks competition. The game of the week is the Miami Dolphins vs. San Francisco 49'ers, and the pod is going all-in on Tua this week. Kris sheds some light on in-game betting and the effect Canada's appearance at the World Cup has had in attracting Canadian bets. Ray and Dregs, part-time oddsmakers?? The guys speak some 'streaky' bets into existence, thanks to Betano.
