Tim Gushue is a Shawnee High School institution. He has been the head football coach at his alma mater in Medford, New Jersey since 1983, and this season he became just the 4th coach in South Jersey history to win 300 career games. He has led the Renegades to the playoffs 19 times and won 9 sectional championships. Gushue's connection to Shawnee goes back to the beginning as he was a part of the school's first graduating class in 1972. Executive Director Kate Lombardi and Mark Schulz, Director of External Communications, discussed Musicopia's mission, to inspire, educate, and connect children, youth, and their extended communities through collaborative music and dance experiences. Founded over 50 years ago, Musicopia provides the access to the arts programming that has been cut by many school districts. Today they reach more than 25,000 participants each year across three states (PA, South Jersey and Delaware) and 21 school districts through a wide range of programs including stringed instruments, drumlines, social and ballroom dancing, Tango and more as the local communities look for cultural connection. Taught by over 110 professional musicians and dance instructors, Musicopia introduces students to different music genres and instruments and to partner dancing, teaching teamwork and social skills. Students not only achieve a sense of accomplishment through their classes, their attendance and grades are also affected according to ancedotal reports. Classes are offered to students of all ages, from weekly to intense one-day workshops, in schools or community centers; students who wish to continue with their art are directed to Musicopia's many partner organizations. In addition to their classroom work Musicopia actively seeks donations of instruments which are refurbished and provided to students in their programs. The Lullaby Project, allows parents and caregivers to create and record a lullaby for their children, allowing the family to share in a music experience. Volunteers are welcome to help with programming and events. Bill Alvaro Jr. is the head baseball coach at Kingsway Regional High School in Woolwich Township, New Jersey. He previously had successful runs at Williamstown High School and Washington Township High School. He is one of the most successful baseball coaches in South Jersey history and this past season lead Kingsway to a South Jersey Group 4 title - the school's first since 1992 - and an appearance in the state title game. Keith and Patrick Lee didn't start their machine shop with a giant facility, a full team, or a fleet of high-end equipment. They started with a Tormach in a one-car garage, a willingness to learn, and the belief that if they kept showing up, solving problems, and doing what they said they would do, they could build something real. In this episode of MakingChips, Keith and Patrick share the story behind their South Jersey machine shop, from discovering CNC through high school STEM projects and YouTube videos to slowly building the business on nights and weekends. Keith brings the hands-on machining background, including time in the Air National Guard and aerospace manufacturing, while Patrick brings a mechanical engineering background and experience in heavy construction operations. Together, they've had to figure out not just how to make parts, but how to build a business from scratch. Their journey is full of the kind of lessons every shop owner can relate to: learning CNC by doing, finding early work through Xometry, using LinkedIn to build real customer relationships, deciding when to invest in equipment, and building processes before hiring or automating. They also talk openly about what it's like to work with a sibling, how they handle disagreements, and why "family before the business, family after the business" has become a guiding principle. What sets Keith and Patrick apart isn't flashy equipment or decades of experience. It's their ethos: ownership, duty, discipline, honesty, and a commitment to bringing honor back to American manufacturing.
