Episode 358 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features recently signed New York Islanders prospect Josh Kotai. In the feature interview presented by NHL Sense Arena, Kotai shares valuable insights from a unique path to signing with the Islanders this spring -- and making his pro debut in the AHL -- after two exceptional NCAA seasons at Augustana University, where he was a Mike Richter Award finalist this season as the top goalie in college hockey (among many accolades and awards). It wasn't a straight line to an NHL contract for Kotai, who payed junior in Vermont and North Battleford, Saskatchewan before getting a chance to play college hockey, but it is loaded with incredible stories and lessons, including the most unique right-catch origin stories we've ever heard. Kotai also talks about growing up in a family of passionate goalies, with his dad, Alex, coming back to the game as a self-taught adult to become the Vancouver Canucks practice goalie and his personal coach, and younger brother Nick also playing the position, while other younger brother Reilley is a forward at Northern Michigan. This really is a can't miss interview. Speaking of undrafted goalies, in the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, we talk about not getting caught up in other people's timelines during drafts, something that is important to remember for parents and young goalies, and driven home by the success of goalies like Kotai and Stanley Cup winner Brandon Bussi of the Carolina Hurricanes. Speaking of Bussi, he's back for a second straight Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, to celebrate his success as he breaks down a double-lateral attack from his first NHL game. And in our weekly gear segment, we head to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, for a look at the new Bauer Fuze chest protector, which is now also available in a women's specific model.

Internationally, Desjardins has represented Canada at nearly every major tournament, building a resume that spans the highest levels of junior, professional, and international hockey. Listen as he shares why instilling confidence is at the heart of a coach's role, how winning cultures are built, and what goes into developing offensive defencemen. Since the formation of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi's government, a series of declarations by the Sadrist Movement, Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq, and Kata'ib Imam Ali have signaled a growing willingness to abandon armed wings and integrate more fully into the Iraqi state. But what do these declarations actually mean in practice? The hosts unpack the technical process of Hashd integration, examine Sadr's long history of pledges to disband armed formations, and explore the political calculations driving these latest announcements. They also discuss why different factions face varying incentives, and what the evolution of Iraq's armed movements reveals about the country's broader political trajectory.

After the Quran, the most widely cited text in Islamic history is the Sahih al-Bukhari: the compendium of authentic hadith—reports of the Prophet Muhammad's words and deeds—collected by Muhammad al-Bukhari (d.870). Despite the colossal impact of this work, al-Bukhari's biography has long remained obscure. Yet by reconstructing his life and thought we can understand both how and why he devised his method for evaluating which hadith were reliable, and which were to be rejected. And by examining his legal and theological writings, we learn how the canonical status of hadith took shape amid debates about the role and limits of reason as a reliable means of guidance in life. So in this episode we place al-Bukhari into his context of debates between the Ahl al-Ra'y (People of Opinion) and Ahl al-Hadith (People of Hadith). And we highlight the enduring importance of his interventions in the timeless debate over revelation and reason. Nile Green talks to Belal Abu-Alabbas, author of Al-Bukhari: The Life, Theology and Legal Thought of Islam's Foremost Traditionist (Edinburgh University Press, 2026).

Ryan Warsofsky just completed his second season as the head coach of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, this past season leading them to 39 wins, an 18 win improvement over 2025. He also served as the head coach for the U.S. Men's National Team for the first time at the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship, winning a gold medal. Prior to joining the Sharks, Warsofsky was the head coach of the Chicago Wolves of the AHL for two seasons (2020-22), where, in 2022, at age 34, he became the youngest coach since Peter Laviolette in 1999 to guide a team to the Calder Cup. He also spent two seasons with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, one as an assistant (2018-19) and one as head coach (2019-20). In 2019, he helped guide the Checkers to a Calder Cup. Warsofsky's coaching career began in 2012-13 with his alma mater NCAA Division III Curry College as an assistant after two seasons with the team as a player. He then joined the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays in 2013, serving as an assistant for three seasons before being promoted to head coach and director of hockey operations for his final two seasons (2016-18). In our conversation today, we discuss what it is like to be the youngest head coach in the NHL and the leadership dynamic that he brings to the locker room. We discuss the importance of joy, patience, Ryan's non-negotiables, and what makes a great leader. We also discuss coaching Gen Z athletes, the importance of fundamentals, and how to negotiate the world of social media to continue to build trust and great team culture. Montreal stunned Carolina 6–2 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final, swarming the Hurricanes with four first-period goals and exposing signs of rust after Carolina’s 12-day layoff, as Rod Brind’Amour admitted his team wasn’t ready for the Canadiens’ pace, long stretch passes and relentless transition game. Cole Caufield’s quick response goal after Carolina scored 33 seconds in shifted momentum immediately, as the Canes aggressive play allowed Montreal to repeatedly generate breakaways. Carolina will need a bounce-back in Game 2, especially from Frederik Andersen and a Jacob Slavin, who struggled through a difficult night. Out West, Vegas opened with an upset win over Colorado thanks to a stellar performance from Carter Hart and the massive absence of injured Cale Makar, whose uncertain status now looms over the series. John Tortorella appears energized in his new role with Vegas after recognizing Philadelphia needed a different voice for its rebuild. Discussion then turns to the Maple Leafs’ coaching search, with the suggestion that Toronto should think beyond short-term fixes and consider talented but inexperienced candidates from the AHL and NHL assistant ranks.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Tim is in for Mark, and discusses all things Pens, Pirates, and Steelers. Tony Androckitis joins Tim to discuss some AHL hockey. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
